Health / Re: Mosquitoes Are Our Friends, Stop Killing Them - UNILORIN Professor Decries by NeuroBoss(m): 10:00am On Jun 06, 2017
The then Dr Ande was my lecturer at the University of Ilorin at the Department of Zoology. He is arguably on of the best lecture red in Unilorin and everyone loves him.

In our entomology classes, Dr Ande has always been saying this from the biological roles some of these insects play and trying to downplay their notorious acts.

My Oga is not oblivious of the harms mosquitoes have caused and are still causing.

I hope I were there, I am very sure he would have comically and intelligently proved his points.

Professor Ande is the best.

We all loved him.

Politics / Who Denigrates Wole Soyinka? by NeuroBoss(m): 9:54am On Jun 01, 2017
WHO DENIGRATES KONGI, THE LITERARY KONIG?

The recently concluded Presidential Elections in the U.S, unarguably the murkiest and most controversial ever has seen many Nigerians pitched their tents with either of the two gladiators, former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and the brash New York Billionaire, Donald Trump.

Due to several reasons ranging from World Security, Racism, Economic Policy, Gender consideration, World View, Knowledge, Fear, Love, Hatred etc, everyone in Nigeria seemed to have adopted an American candidate that he would love to see take the reins as the 45th U.S President as from January, 20th, 2017.

Our revered 'Wande 'Wole Soyinka was one of those and he gunned for Hillary Clinton. He so much despised a Trump Presidency that he vowed to do away with his American Green Card, highly-prized here in Nigeria if Donald Trump by any chance, became POTUS. Soyinka was not alone in this. I have a White American Professor who vowed in August, 2015 to renounce his citizenship and leave the U.S if Trump became POTUS.
The man is still there the last time I checked.

By a twist of fate, Donald Trump won and since his win, many Nigerians have not only asked him to fulfill his promise but have done so in a manner bereft of common sense, courtesy, respect and honour while making him the butt of online jokes and trolling.

Who should denigrate Wole Soyinka? No Biafran worth that name, no Nigerian of honour, no people of conscience should.

Wole Soyinka is one of the few Nigerians who has not soiled his hands looking for filthy lucre. He wrote, fought, and demonstrated for BIAFRA. He was jailed by Gowon for BIAFRA. Ojukwu trusted him. The MEND and the other Niger-Delta terrorists/militants rever and trust him. He founded what is today known as the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), a noble initiative that protects lives and employs thousands of Nigerians. He fought as the leading light of NADECO, a democractic struggle front and was EXILED for a democracy that he has not directly benefitted from save for the recent appointment of his brilliant Doctor son, Oluokun Soyinka, as the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State.

It was while in exile scheming with other Nigerians to bring back democracy that he was granted the Green Card without application by former President Jimmy Carter to enable him meet with other democracy fighters exiled and domiciled outside of the Big Apple.

All of these fighters of democracy with the exception of the Konig Kongi had gone on to become Senators, Governors, Ministers, Attorneys-General and Political Godfathers.

For the bigoted lots who will not stop ruing Wole Soyinka's Nobel Prize win in a contest that did not even include their kinsman, Wole is more than the popularity of his books or the dramas he has directed. He put a human face to writing. He doesn't write clannish, biased, inflammatory, divisive and one-sided memoirs. He is renowned for saying the truth to hurt. He has put his life in the line many times trying to enact what he preaches in his books and walking his many talks. He is one man who deserves the respect and honour of all.

This was why he got a well-deserved honour in faraway Stockholm in 1986.

So, who denigrates Kongi, the literary Konig? Maladjusted Nigerians, tribal bigots, ingrates, ignoramuses and as he aptly described them, illiterates.

Davido's dad floated a bank in his 20's, the Pacific Bank and singlehandedly bankrolled his brother's gubernatorial ambition as the first Governor of Osun state in 1991.

Hmmm, jazz dey o.

Like most people, I spent the better part of my life believing the existence of juju without having seen its manifestation until that June, 2014 evening.

Then, I used to work at the 2nd Gate of the Tin Can Island Port. I had trucks I was waiting for at the Round About to help carry goods from the TICT terminal and suddenly, a fight broke out among the truck driver and their was turmoil everywhere bad everyone including all the men of the Nigerian Armed Forces scampering for safety.

Hiding under an iron bar, I was just hearing the sound of matcher strikes on one guy. At each sound I was hearing kakaka and I would shout, "yeee".

When I eventually had some courage to look up, instead of a pool of blood, I saw live a man who was receiving several strokes of matcher and even seemed to be enjoying it as he didn't fight back or run away. He was only taking the assailant round the Round About. When he fell down and I thought they have eventually got this guy, he received matcher on his head and nothing happened. That day, I saw a manifestation of African Science. When the assailant lost hold of the cutlass, one would expect that this guy would retaliate and probably kill him, he surprisingly took the cutlass and just slapped him with it.

This guy became an instant hero as the hiding Armed personnels came out to do a kind of secret session with him probably to get to collect some powers from him.

That day, I believe in "Okigbe", the Yoruba anti-matchet assault juju.

That day, I also determined to search God to the extent of getting these kinds of powers from him.

As Satan only gives a counterfeit of what only God can veritably gives.

This is not to be tribalized or seen as a national disgrace. Human beings everywhere fight OK?

For those calling for the interpretation, this is it:

The woman shouting outside the store: Your life is done for (many times)
You will never taste success again
Your secret is now opened
You are witch
You are wicked
You are using another person's passport
Make sure my son's/daughter's passport is released
You can run from man
You cannot run from God
Your forebears are damned.

(From the tone of the rants, they used to close or possibly family. The abused woman probably helps out with immigration issues due to her long, established stay in the UK. For reasons unknown, she has the passport belonging to the shouting woman's son/daughter and is probably using it for something)

Nairaland / General / Bahia: The Brazilian City That Influenced The Architecture Of Lagos Island by NeuroBoss(m): 12:25pm On Apr 03, 2017
Brazil and Nigeria are two countries with shared history , similarities and hundreds of years of mutual diplomatic relations. Centuries before imperialistic Europe made the in-roads into the two hitherto uncharted parts of the world, the geographical spaces that became Nigeria and Brazil were both dotted with clusters of independent kingdoms, tribes and clans.
Interestingly, they were both first discovered by the same Portuguese explorers who gave their former capital cities Salvador da Bahia and Lagos their names.

Salvador da Bahia, Brazil’s first capital city located in the Northeastern part of Brazil was founded in 1527. During the boom of the cross-atlantic slavery trade, it was not surprising that it became the home of a larger percentage of the more than 5 million slaves estimated to have been sold outside Africa and of this lot, Nigeria – the Yorubas were the largest group.
In the over 300 years of servitude, the Yorubas stamped their religion which is now known as Candomble, their foods ”Akara” now known as “acaraje” and their mode of dressing on Bahia and the Brazilian culture. Some in turn adopted the Catholic faith, answer Catholic names, learned crafts, building techniques, trades and got European education.
After the abolition of slave trade in the 19th century, descendants of erstwhile Yoruba slaves from different parts of the Oyo Empire chose to return and stay in Lagos which was then rapidly growing into a sprawling commercial city. They were skilled men-architects, lawyers, Engineer, and exposed men. They dotted the landscape of Idumota, Obalende, Pelewura, all on the Lagos Island with beautiful 2 Storeyed Bahian-Styled buildings all over the place. The landscaping and planning was also influenced by their sojourn in the city of Bahia.
Unfortunately, many of these historical buildings had been fallen for various developmental purposes, vestiges of their glorious pasts are still held in the Brazilian quarters, water house, the Catholic Mission street etc. all on the Lagos Island.

Investment / 7 Reasons Why Awoyaya, Ibeju-lekki Is The New Investment Haven by NeuroBoss(m): 11:30am On Apr 03, 2017
Many years ago, the now high-rolling neighborhood of Lekki was not attractive to investors because in their estimation, they are far-flung from civilization, susceptible to flood, poor communities etc. Today, the narrative has changed as the lowest property in Lekki goes for nothing less than N20 million.
Awoyaya, a community along the Lekki-Epe expressway has become a hub for developers. In few years, your investment in the real estate market in Awoyaya will prove to be the best decision you will be proud to have made.
These are the 7 reasons why we think Awoyaya is the new Real Estate Investment Haven and why you must be part of it now.

Affordable Luxury Housing: Awoyaya is home to many Luxury Real Estate companies providing bespoke and affordable homes. Notable among these companies is the Meridian Luxury Park along the expressway where you can become a landlord for as low as N7 million for a mini-flat and N28 million for a fully-detached 5 bedroom duplex.

Long stretch of Good access Road: The Lekki-Epe expressway is one of the longest stretch of good roads in Lagos State. This long stretch of road is already attracting investments in factories, large department stores, cinemas etc.

Proximity to the Dangote Refinery : The $12 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery in the Lekki Free Trade Zone is within 1hr 30 minutes drive to Awoyaya. This refinery holds the promise of creating over a hundred thousand jobs when it starts running. The effect of this your real estate investment can only be imagined.

Nearness to the Proposed Seaport: When the proposed Lekki Seaport is fully birthed, the commercial implosion it will bring will be felt in Awoyaya which is less than 1 hour drive away. Your investment returns, according to industry experts will be around 6000%.

Security: The Lekki-Epe axis where Awoyaya is founded is arguably the safest part of Lagos due to its nearness to the coastline and the absence of adjoining trunk roads. The proud reputation of the axis as the home to many of Lagos’ most influential and affluent people has also made the government to beef up security in the area.

The Proposed Lekki Airport: The Lekki International Airport lies within short driving distance to Awoyaya. Airports drive commercial activities and people that will in turn make your real estate investment value to skyrocket within a short period of time

Presence of Social Amenities: Awoyaya is within short distance to good schools, fitness facilities,high-quality hospitals, cinemas, clusters of nice neighborhoods, shopping malls. People are naturally attracted to living in places that can provide all these in one place. This is also a major reason you won’t be making a mistake investing in the real estate development going on in Awoyaya.

Nairaland / General / Opinion: "You Never Begin Stay Lagos Until You Don Become Landlord For Lagos" by NeuroBoss(m): 11:04am On Apr 03, 2017
Home to more than 20 million people, Lagos is Nigeria’s biggest commercial city. Because of its commercial allure, it has over the years, become an “El dorado” of a sort as that is where most Nigerians looking for the proverbial golden fleece go and settle in to find it. It is often said that every Nigerian family has a representative in Lagos. Original home of the Aworis, it has become a melting point of all Nigerians from all walks of life.
Due to the high population density, housing has become a major problem as it is common to have 9 to 12 people cramp together in a single room. It is also an everyday sight to see hundreds of homeless people taking shelter under the numerous bridges that dotted the landscape.
Unscrupulous landlords have taken advantage of general problem to make life unbearable for the teeming population of shelter seekers in perpetually increasing house rents and stifling tenancy laws.
Lagosians in their creativity in every condition have coined a refrain in pidgin English “you never begin stay Lagos until you become landlord”.
Our media crew went around to interview some Lagosians what they think about the above assertions. Our media respondent; Chris Oyekwa, a trader from Isiekenesi in Ideato South Local Government of Imo State recounted his ordeals in the hands of landlords, how he lives day-to-day just to eat and pay the high rent for more than 20 years before he finally built his 3-bedroom bungalow around Okokomaiko area of Lagos.
Another respondent Ali Hassan from Yobe State also has horrible story from his time as a tenant for over 15 years until he built a home in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos to tell.
The third respondent, Owvokwe from Delta State registered his frustration with housing in Lagos since he was brought by his uncle in 2001. He told our correspondent that he is seriously praying and saving up to build his own house.

Nairaland / General / Debunking The Untrue Story Going Round About Sir Shina Peters And Jim Ovia. by NeuroBoss(m): 2:22am On Mar 27, 2017
We have started again, a la Nigerian, a new round of motivational falsehoods now about Sir Shina Peters and Jim Ovia. It was the same rounds of untruths about Goodluck Jonathan and his luck with dying superiors.
Recently, it was the tales of how Dangote became wealthy as a result of Archbishop Idahosa's pronouncements of blessing on him after the former vacated a plane seat for Idahosa so that he can hurriedly travel with his guests. When air travel become danfo, abeg?
As much as I loved the morals of the Peters-Ovia story, I would still treat it as the pack of lies that it is.
It is public knowledge that the banking licenses approved by the Babangida administration in 1990 to the new generation banks sold for #5 million and Jim Ovia could as at then, not muster enough financial clout to go it all alone. Who dash Ovia #20 million in 1990?
Tayo Aderinokun and Fola Adeola, two already high-rolling guys had to come together with about other 30 friends to obtain the license that became the GTB.
The fabricators of these lies also faulted Shina's purported acquisition of a house for #20 million. How much was the royalty on Ace, Shina's 1987 smashing hot record that he will buy a house worth #20 million then?
Even if these stories were true, it is peurile to judge each man's decision by their seeming financial status today. A 1990 investment of #20 million in real estate anywhere in Lagos would have appreciated to around #300 million today. Ovia's #20 million might have become the behemoth Zenith bank has become today but both men are financially well-off and made decisions based on the information available to them at the time.
All fingers no dey equal.
To round it off, I was at the LyfeCamp 2016 conference for aspiring entrepreneurs in December, 2016, where I heard it first-hand how Ovia could not even get NEPA meter delivered on time to the 3-bedroom flat where Zenith bank started from. Now, that's very unlikely for someone who had #20 million that time.
Let's motivate ourselves but not with lies. We don tell our true success stories finish?

Culture / The Yoruba Traditional Religion Is Monogamist! (read To Know How And Why?) by NeuroBoss(m): 2:30pm On Mar 25, 2017
From this book, "La cuna de la cultura Yoruba" (The cradle of Yoruba culture) authored in Spanish by a Babalawo, Chief Araba Dayo Ologundudu who teaches Yoruba culture to foreigners, I read a verse of the Ifa Corpus where Orunmila baba Agbonmiregun warned about the dangers or inherent risks of polygamy.
Contrary to widely-held belief, the traditional Yoruba religion is also against the practice of having many wives. Evidently, Orunmila had to leave our forefathers to their "reprobate" and obstinate minds after he warned them in these lines:
Okan pere l'obinrin dun mo lowo oko
( The best thing is to have only one wife)
T'oba di meji a do jowu
( When a man has two wives, it breeds envy between them)
T'oba di meta adi eta ntule
( When they become three, they break the family)
T'oba di merin a di iya oko eni lo nrinni
(When there are four wives, they start calling the mother-in-law untoward names)
T'oba di marun-un a di rungun-rungun
(When a man has five wives, they become destructive)
T'oba di mefa a di eni to n fa owo oko wa seyin re
(When there are six wives, they say: "this is the one who is drawing our husband back" )
T'oba di meje a di eni ti o n je ki oko wa jin si koto re
(When they are seven, they say, " who is that who is a perpetual pitfall for our husband?" )
T'oba di mejo adi eni ti ko je ki imo wa jo mo re.
(When they become eight, they start pointing fingers, "this is the one brought to threaten our peace and harmony" )
T'oba di mesan a di eni to ko ni sanjo de
(When the wives become nine, they say to the other, " this is the worthless wife of our husband" )
T'oba di mewa a di ewo eni to o tun nwa oko wa wa
(When they become ten, they say, "look at the one that our husband is seeing behind us" )
Polygamy is not really Yoruba, men's insatiable quest for varieties in women brought about it. The Ifa religion was never in support!

It's amazing how hasty people can get in dabbling into what is beyond them. Yes, the building collapse was an unfortunate one and may the souls of the departed rest in peace. Mr Richard Nyong is a young, conscientious entrepreneur who doesn't cut back on quality and the ethical demands of his vocations. It is wrong and misplaced to judge an outlier, an achiever, one who has built and sold over 6000 quality and strong building units in just 5 years because of the collapse of a building. I know this man and I still see him today. He is a good man. A lover of God and one whom God has used to change numerous lives for good. You cannot know Mr Richard or encounter him and your life will be the same.
Given his nonpareil achievement in his sector, I am not surprised about the coordinated media gang-ups, untoward stories, apocryphals and the envyings and jealousies around.
He needs our prayers and support this time especially, we, the new generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs as he is a good role model - a lesson in entrepreneurship.
The good Lord whom he loves, adores and serves devotedly and unapologetically will see him through.

Why do we always think of everything in bad light? Climax is but a word in English which means different things depending on the context. Climax, as used here means ''to reach the terminal end of something'' and in this case, the something was specified and that was the year 2016. You are not a mind reader neither am I too but we should desist from second-guessing people especially where there expression can mean other things. The Pastor was only showing his dexterity with language. Do not sin against God condemning him yet.

I am a hyper-polyglot speaker of 11 languages and if you have ever traveled out of Nigeria, you will know that the world does not revolve around only English. All of the 6 languages of the United Nations namely; English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian are very important. However, choosing the one to learn after English should be informed by your perspective of the world and what you aim to do with it as not everyone has the persistence and mental drilling capacity that multiple language learning requires.
That said, you can contact me for any translation and interpretation involving any of the languages I stated in my signature. I speak all!
