I don't understand the constant NEED and fight to include people who clearly wants to disassociate themselves from you guys. This is the same as Nigeria.

Rivers people saying they are not Igbos - IGBOS fighting endlessly and shamelessly to say they are igbos.
Igbo people saying they are not Nigerians - Nigerian government fighting endlessly and shamelessly to say they are Nigerians.

The problem, as the op has proved, is that some of them claim their Igbo heritage. If you read the history books, you will see that the Ikwerre prior to 1967 (including the colonial era) were described as an Igbo group.

We didn't have any conventional kingdom or empires such as Oyo or the Sokoto Caliphate, in which you could pinpoint the ethnicity of each individual. 'Igboness' was largely determined by the language you spoke; the food you ate; the gods you served; market days etc. All these pointed to the Ikwerre being Igbo.

I am not one to force anybody to claim somerhing they don't want to — we live in an age where a man can call himself a woman and a woman, a man. However, you cannot deny history. It dishonour our ancestors.

We should not take the Ikwerre or any sub-group with notable Igbo deniers when we secede. We don't want our country to become another Nigeria.

There is no "We" between you and Ikwerre.
If you can't grasp this simple concept, then this discussion is pointless.
Ndiigbo have no interest in whatever backward place you come from, so you can as well go and stay where the sun don't shine.
The Ikwerres who are in Igbo Organization know that there is a "We" between them and other Igbos, the opinions of dissenting Ikwerre people matters and will be put on a plebiscite on the day of reckoning, but your inferior Igbo hating Yoruba opinion trying too hard to mask under minorities of SS is irrelevant.

That's the point.

My brother, I think it's time to let the Ikwerre speak for themselves — just like Barrister Okwukwu has done. They will be the ones to be dealing with the hateful non-Igbos when we keep silent.

As long as 50% claim their Igbo heritage and the other 50% don't, there will always be problems. People like Wike are products of Igbophobic propaganda so we need to move on without them.

The Ikwerre name for Port Harcourt is Igweocha.

Edit: It's becoming increasingly obvious that the Op isn't even Ikwerre. I've heard of some Ikwerre try to claim Benin ancestry but Youruba? Hausa? That's insane.

A very good luck to them and they should stop answering Igbo names, they should bear their ikwere trube name as they call it

I agree, lest they suffer persecution from other Nigerians mistaking them for Igbos.

You and very few people. And we all know majority carries the day. I believe leaving behind sentimental feeling and advancing as one despite the odds is better than regressing and breaking into pieces. United we stand, divide and beside

It's actually more than a few (and growing by the day). It's just that the loudest (IPOB and co) are the ones who get noticed.

Many of the oil rich communities in the Niger Delta have had their lands ravaged by oil spills. It will cost a lot of money to clean these up and even more to return their environments back to normal.

It's just not worth it, in my opinion. We should only be doing that for communities that won't give us problems (i.e. self-identified Igbo communities). We have our own resources, we don't need their oil.

Igbos will do well to avoid posts like this.
Don't contribute to it and watch it die.

I disagree. It won't die as it's being fuelled by propaganda that has lasted generations.

The only way to counter it is to campaign for an Igbo-only country. Without the Igbos, these people have no leverage in Nigeria. They become not only an ethnic minority but a religious one too.

They might not understand the implications of this now but they will later on.

They have their language and a different culture than the rest of the state. They never claim to be Hausa's. The three major tribes in the north is Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri.
Person say him no Igbo leave am. This are the tribes that will give IPOB problem when the time comes. Una dey claim marginalization for Nigeria, when you get Biafra you will know what's up. Igbo people that are very possessive like evil spirit.

Many Igbos like myself don't want them in our country. Like you said, they'll only cause problems for us. We need our independent Igbo nation to be as homogenous and united as possible.

Trying to reason with these people is pointless as the propaganda they've been subjected to has been going on for generations.

We have gas, coal, minerals and some oil in our lands. We also have the most important resource — human resources. With good governance, we'd be able to rival any first world country within 20 years of seceding.

Good luck to all the Ikwerre and other minority tribes choosing to stay in Nigeria.

You guys like to argue blindly because you dont know the law. The only reason Nigeria has territorial water is UNCLOS (United Nations Convention On Laws If The Sea) and Nigeria is a signatory to UNCLOS. Without UNCLOS, nothing stops America from claiming to own the Pacific Ocean, or India claiming to own the Indian Ocean

Article 125 of UNCLOS states:

Article 125

Right of access to and from the sea and freedom of transit

1. Land-locked States shall have the right of access to and from the sea
for the purpose of exercising the rights provided for in this Convention
including those relating to the freedom of the high seas and the common
heritage of mankind. To this end, land-locked States shall enjoy freedom of
transit through the territory of transit States by all means of transport.

In the event that the South East becomes independent, Nigeria has no right to deny it from using Oguta, Ebonyi River, Obuaku Azumini blue River or any tributaries that run through the South East to the ocean, to gain access to the sea. That is the law

There may be certain terms and conditions that the South East may have to negotiate with Nigeria, but their right to access to the sea remains sacrosanct

They're too busy concerning themselves with Igbos and what we'll do with our own country when they should be focusing on their own.

What will happen to Christianity in Nigeria if the Igbos leave?

@Op

1) I don't believe you are Igbo as you don't seem to know that there are Igbo communities outside the South-East.

2) Most want a referendum to be conducted in their areas as self-determination should be determined by the people.

3) You claim that the Igbos not having a president isn't enough just cause to want to leave Nigeria so I have to ask you again, are you really an Igbo man?

If you as a citizen cannot even dream of attaining the highest honour in your country then what business have you of being in it?

4) Your claims about corrupt SE politicians are right and I'm happy you've mentioned it because for the first time in a long time, Igbo people are starting to hold their politicians accountable. We owe that to Peter Obi, btw.

The local suya seller? The palm wine tapper. Ndo, your mama will tell you one day. Just leave her N1,000 by her bedside table. That should jog her memory.

Story

You have been rejected by the entire SS.

Go and try your luck with Benue people

Honestly, you reason like a fool.

1) You admited that there are Igbos native to the South-South region.
2) You implied that some of them even belong in the Igbo-dominated South-East region.
3) You implied that the Biafrans had no affinity with the Midwest region.
4) You failed to note that Nzeogwu was from the Midwest region.
5) You said that the minorities slaughtered in the North were mistaken for Igbos (proving my point).
6) You then justified their murder by claiming that there were only a few of them there (absolutely shocking and completely untrue, btw undecided).
7) After all your running around in circles and ignoring any comment that exposes you as an ignoramus, you now claim that the multi-ethnic (which, you admit, includes Igbos) and multi-faceted people of the South-South region have unanimously rejected the Igbo ethnic group.

Do you see how this makes no sense? Especially as I have always maintained that I do not want us to form a country with any minority. I want an Igbo-only country and always have.

Btw, I'm giving you one final chance. Send me your account details so that I can send you the money for your HIV test. I will not offer it again.

Sharap.

The non Ibos killed in the north were mistaken for Ibos .

Secondly, Murtala rounding up and killing Asaba people was not out of misplaced hatred.

Those killed by Murtala were fingered in collaborating with the Ibos to invade Midwest .

They were part of the Okonkwo stooge govt setup by Ojukwu after Ejoor was chased away by his own Igboid officers.

They were not innocent in any way or form

The only argument is that Murtala should have handed them to the police for prosecution but again you can argue that the Midwest was already under Marshal law following the Igboid treason and that Murtala simply complied with relevant war codes in treating spies and traitors.

They deserved it in my book.

Thank you for proving my point.
