Politics / Re: What An Ikwerre Man Said About Ikwerres, Igbos And History by Ngozi123(f): 11:21am On Aug 15, 2023 |
wisdomkid: The problem, as the op has proved, is that some of them claim their Igbo heritage. If you read the history books, you will see that the Ikwerre prior to 1967 (including the colonial era) were described as an Igbo group. We didn't have any conventional kingdom or empires such as Oyo or the Sokoto Caliphate, in which you could pinpoint the ethnicity of each individual. 'Igboness' was largely determined by the language you spoke; the food you ate; the gods you served; market days etc. All these pointed to the Ikwerre being Igbo. I am not one to force anybody to claim somerhing they don't want to — we live in an age where a man can call himself a woman and a woman, a man. However, you cannot deny history. It dishonour our ancestors. We should not take the Ikwerre or any sub-group with notable Igbo deniers when we secede. We don't want our country to become another Nigeria. 2 Likes |

Igboid: My brother, I think it's time to let the Ikwerre speak for themselves — just like Barrister Okwukwu has done. They will be the ones to be dealing with the hateful non-Igbos when we keep silent. As long as 50% claim their Igbo heritage and the other 50% don't, there will always be problems. People like Wike are products of Igbophobic propaganda so we need to move on without them. 3 Likes 1 Share |

raskymonojendor: The Ikwerre name for Port Harcourt is Igweocha. Edit: It's becoming increasingly obvious that the Op isn't even Ikwerre. I've heard of some Ikwerre try to claim Benin ancestry but Youruba? Hausa? That's insane. 1 Like |

Abifarin16: It's actually more than a few (and growing by the day). It's just that the loudest (IPOB and co) are the ones who get noticed. Many of the oil rich communities in the Niger Delta have had their lands ravaged by oil spills. It will cost a lot of money to clean these up and even more to return their environments back to normal. It's just not worth it, in my opinion. We should only be doing that for communities that won't give us problems (i.e. self-identified Igbo communities). We have our own resources, we don't need their oil. 1 Like |

Igboid: I disagree. It won't die as it's being fuelled by propaganda that has lasted generations. The only way to counter it is to campaign for an Igbo-only country. Without the Igbos, these people have no leverage in Nigeria. They become not only an ethnic minority but a religious one too. They might not understand the implications of this now but they will later on. 3 Likes |

Abifarin16: Many Igbos like myself don't want them in our country. Like you said, they'll only cause problems for us. We need our independent Igbo nation to be as homogenous and united as possible. Trying to reason with these people is pointless as the propaganda they've been subjected to has been going on for generations. We have gas, coal, minerals and some oil in our lands. We also have the most important resource — human resources. With good governance, we'd be able to rival any first world country within 20 years of seceding. Good luck to all the Ikwerre and other minority tribes choosing to stay in Nigeria. 9 Likes |

Wahabfuture: It's best for everyone. We will get our own country and they will be forced to reckon with their real issues. Nigeria is holding us all back. The only people I really feel sorry for once the Igbos leave are the Christians that will be left behind. The fact that some of them are mocking Igbos just shows how myopic they really are. |

KwuoteYourFada: No, you're wrong. The South-East has absolutely nothing to offer Nigeria. The same can be said for the Igbo communities outside of the South-East. They should all petition their politicians to let the Igbos leave so they can finally have peace and thrive as a nation. |

@Op 1) I don't believe you are Igbo as you don't seem to know that there are Igbo communities outside the South-East. 2) Most want a referendum to be conducted in their areas as self-determination should be determined by the people. 3) You claim that the Igbos not having a president isn't enough just cause to want to leave Nigeria so I have to ask you again, are you really an Igbo man? If you as a citizen cannot even dream of attaining the highest honour in your country then what business have you of being in it? 4) Your claims about corrupt SE politicians are right and I'm happy you've mentioned it because for the first time in a long time, Igbo people are starting to hold their politicians accountable. We owe that to Peter Obi, btw. |

AuschwitzPrefec: You call me Ohu and, no offence to those who have Ohu ancestry but I can date my ancestry back generations and I am not Ohu, neither am I Osu. However, as a son of an akwuna akwuna, you cannot. I pity you as you must have spent day upon day of your miserable childhood pondering on who your father was. Is he your neighbour? The local suya seller? The palm wine tapper. Ndo, your mama will tell you one day. Just leave her N1,000 by her bedside table. That should jog her memory. 2 Likes |

AuschwitzPrefec: Honestly, you reason like a fool. 1) You admited that there are Igbos native to the South-South region. 2) You implied that some of them even belong in the Igbo-dominated South-East region. 3) You implied that the Biafrans had no affinity with the Midwest region. 4) You failed to note that Nzeogwu was from the Midwest region. 5) You said that the minorities slaughtered in the North were mistaken for Igbos (proving my point). 6) You then justified their murder by claiming that there were only a few of them there (absolutely shocking and completely untrue, btw ). 7) After all your running around in circles and ignoring any comment that exposes you as an ignoramus, you now claim that the multi-ethnic (which, you admit, includes Igbos) and multi-faceted people of the South-South region have unanimously rejected the Igbo ethnic group. Do you see how this makes no sense? Especially as I have always maintained that I do not want us to form a country with any minority. I want an Igbo-only country and always have. Btw, I'm giving you one final chance. Send me your account details so that I can send you the money for your HIV test. I will not offer it again. |

Belafonte: Only an illiterate would think this. The minorities of the South-South can stay in Nigeria or form their own country for all I care but Igboland is Igboland. We will not cede even an inch to that contraption called Nigeria. We will not leave our people to be slaughtered by savages. |

AuschwitzPrefec: So, Gowon declaring war on Biafra was a "police action"? What are they teaching you people in that country? See how people try to rewrite history? If they were trying to "liberate" the people in the annexed minority lands then why did you slaughter so many of them? I'm talking innocent civilians, not soldiers. |

AuschwitzPrefec: The question is, if the Yorubas wanted to secede then why didn't they when the opportunity arose in 1967? Heck, why didn't they go for it at Nigeria's independence? Surely one Igbo man couldn't have stopped the entire Oduduwa movement singlehandedly? |

I'm sure your real papa is one local drunkard you passed every day on your way to school. Sorry o They say that if the mother has HIV then she can pass it onto her child during childbirth. If only your current president would release Nnamdi Kanu. Are these the actions of a country that wants the Igbos to leave? 1 Like |
