Nevee: Lol I appreciate your reply, really because I had hitherto contemplated opening a thread where we all could discuss and proffer solutions to problems of the sector. Nonetheless, let me quickly make some corrections. First I blamed the government in my post (both present and past), not only the present.
Some DISCOs in Nigeria inherited over 80 billion naira in debt accumulated by who? And when you assess these debt profiles today, they have been greatly reduced. You may also wish that a major part of the debts are being owed by Government ministries, departments and agencies who believe they shouldn't be paying electricity bills and till this very moment, they have not been paid and you know what? They'd let you know you can never disconnect them. Note that these bills would have been factored into their annual budget and still, they won't pay. So how have the DISCOs run into debt? Go through the NERC website, there is a modeled assumption of the performance of DISCOs over the next 10 years right from privatization that DISCOs would make a loss consistently over 10 years and we are just in the 5th year. May I ask why government itself made such assumptions for DISCOs? Have a look at the investments and tell me you would be willing to run at such loss despite such investments? How can you buy gas to produce electricity at 360 naira per dollar and at the point of selling, government pegs tariff at an assumption at 120 naira per dollar? How please? When some persons are quick to say Ghana enjoys constant power supply, I ask them to have a look at electricity tariffs in Ghana which is about double of Nigeria's before making such comparisons? But you still say DISCOs ran into debt? Lol.
Please which monies did government refund back? It seems you rely too much on the information some of these compromised and politicized media outlets feed you. Even the 100 billion naira intervention fund government promised DISCOs in the privatization contract has not been fulfilled as I type this. Not even one naira. Get your facts right sir.
Maybe companies knowledgeable about the power sector you made reference to ran from such huge rot on the power sector. But then again, how much knowledge did Adenuga had about the Telecoms sector before government gave him an operating license?
If you'd exonerate the present government from problems of the Power sector, why is it finding it had to do that which is right? To come up with practical solutions? Why?
P.S. Don't forget government still has a huge 40% Holdings and control of the DISCOs but when it comes to accepting responsibilities, them go hide face From the bolded as captured in your statement, I can see your intentions for the write-up are propelled by falsehood and psychophancy |

Nevee: Estimated billing is not illegal. In fact, it is recommended and approved by the sector's regulatory body. But Government wouldn't tell you that, they want everyone to keep using the DISCOs as a shield for their gross in incompetence. If it were illegal, why haven't they penalized any DISCO for it? Government should come out and tell us the truth, we are tired of the blame-games. A bill was recently passed by the House of Representatives criminalising estimated Bills, but yet to be passed by the Senate and the President's assent. |

Education › NOUN Makes U-turn And Apologies To Obasanjo, Says His Services Pro Bono(pic) by nickxtra(op): 11:17am On Mar 21, 2019 |
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has tendered unreserved apology to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, over a news report that he was on the payroll of the university as a facilitator. The university made this known on Thursday in Abuja, through a statement signed by Mr Ibrahim Sheme, its Director of Media and Publicity. The university said it was reacting to a story in a national newspaper on Wednesday that Obasanjo would earn N40,000 per annum as “NOUN lecturer’’. Sheme explained that the story emanated from a news conference held by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Adamu, on Tuesday, ahead of the university’s 8th Convocation Ceremony slated for Saturday. Politics › Re: Obasanjo Slams NOUN VC, Says I Offer Free Service by nickxtra(m): 9:23pm On Mar 20, 2019 |
Ebullience: A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday said he offers free service at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) contrary to a report that he earned N40,000 as a NOUN lecturer.
This followed a report (not in Daily Trust) which quoted the NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdalla Adam, to have said the former President was placed on N40,000 pay for his service at the institution.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abeokuta by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo demanded retraction and apology from the VC, while describing his reported position as “embarrassing, uncharitable, mischievous and in bad taste”.
He referred the VC to his letter dated 12 April 2018, which was written to the University Registrar, Mr. Felix Edoka, when the Council offered him a Part-Time appointment as an Instructional/Tutorial Facilitator and Project Supervisor in the Faculty of Arts at the Abeokuta Study Centre.
The former President said he specifically stated in the letter addressed to the Registrar that he would undertake the responsibility pro bono (free service).
According to him, he has not received any dime either as salaries or otherwise from the University and not planning for such now or forever.
The statement reads: “Ordinarily, this will have been unnecessary exercise, if it has been the usual shenanigans of the media to sell their newspapers, but, the very clear quotation of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdalla Adam on the headline made this clarification imperative and to set the records straight on His Excellency’s engagement with the University.
“In putting the records in right perspective, His Excellency wish to draw the attention of the Vice-Chancellor to his letter dated 12 April 2018, which was written to the University Registrar, Mr. Felix Edoka, when the Council offered him a Part-Time appointment as an Instructional/Tutorial Facilitator and Project Supervisor in the Faculty of Arts at the Abeokuta Study Centre.
“Specifically in Paragraph 3 of the letter, President Obasanjo wrote: ‘I will gladly undertake any of the functions mentioned in paragraph two of your letter pro bono and I hope that the functions will be flexible enough to accommodate my rather tight schedule.’
“The former President affirmed that he has not received any dime either as salaries or otherwise from the University and not planning for such now or forever, as stated in his letter that the appointment was received with “pleasure and duty to give back to others out of what God and NOUN have given me.”
“The publication, which has generated mixed reactions from the general public and calls from far and near on the Elder statesman expressing concern, is to say the least, embarrassing, uncharitable, mischievous and in bad taste, with immediate demand for a retraction and apology from the Office of the Vice Chancellor.”

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani has lamented the way his ruling All Progressives Congress APC is being run, saying were it not for the image of President Muhammadu Buhari, the party would have since disintegrated. When the managers of the system violate their own rules, then it means the anarchy does not allow the institution to stand and then you can see what the APC is today. The President’s image is what keeps standing as if there is a form of party otherwise, by conduct, we have lost every value of the fabrication of the initial concept which brought honour to our party. And here, I have the privilege of speaking out because further silence in the face of the falsehood in the market would suggest that I am guilty”, he declared. The minister was speaking Tuesday in Abuja in reaction to allegations of anti-party activities by the National Vice Chairman of the APC in the South south, Ntufam Hilliard Eta as well as his reported suspension from the party by its national leadership. “I am not on suspension. My ward chairman said I am his member. My ward secretary said my membership is intact. Did I register here in Abuja? So, how could they have suspended me in Abuja?”, he queried. The minister who was flanked by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Etim John and other officials said the allegations against him were not new. “Those allegations are not strange to me. First, the background to these allegations derive from the facts I am going to lay before you which are all verifiable and can be crosschecked. From 1999 to 2015, I have never had a reason to dine with the PDP. It was a political fallow season. If you talk to Cross River people, they know us by character. When I had a political fallow season, if I did not accept overtures from the PDP, why would I do so now that I am a minister, is it to become president? Residents of Chitungwiza were left open-mouthed in shock over the weekend after a cheating woman’s boyfriend came to her house and forcefully took her with him despite the presence of the husband According to H-Metro, Penelope Ruswa who is the second wife of a man only identified as Mark was cheating on her husband with another man only identified as Andrew. Penelope’s plans to rendezvous with Andrew that night were ruined after Mark arrived at her house unexpectedly. Seeing that there was no way that she could keep her appointment with Andrew, Penelope is reported to have switched off her phone to avoid his incessant calls. However, it seems like Andrew had been anticipating a night of pleasure with Penelope so much that he decided to come and force her to keep the appointment. Andrew is said to have jumped over the wall surrounding Penelope’s house before banging on her door. Penelope then lied to Mark that he was a disgruntled foreign currency dealer and went to deal with Andrew. But to Mark’s surprise, he had Penelope being assaulted and when he went to find out why he saw her being bundled into a car by Andrew who later drove away. Narrating his ordeal to H-Metro, Mark said, I never thought that Penelope would cheat considering everything that I did for her as well as disturbing my peace with my first wife. I married Penelope beginning of 2018 after falling in love with her for almost three years. I was not aware that she was after my wealth. She was dragged to the Civil Court by my wife, and the story was published in H-Metro, and today I regret my actions after seeing her real character. Penelope was not aware that I was coming home so she decided to switch off her phone, and this angered Andrew who jumped the pre-cast wall into our premises where he demanded that the door be opened. What surprised me was the words he was uttering to prove that he wanted to destroy the door and my wife lied to me that he was a money changer who wanted his United States dollars. She asked me to remain in the bedroom while she attended to him. Ndazomuka ndanzwa avakurohwa mambama amutsa vanhu muraini rose achikakaritswa ndokukandwa mumotokari. I followed them only to discover that Andrew stayed a few houses away from ours, and I had no option, but to call her parents to witness this. They came and returned after they heard someone calling reporters to the scene since they are pastors at Glad Tidings. An irate Mark said that he was done with the marriage and indicated that he may seek a refund of his lobola. Penelope’s father Pastor Chiwara confirmed that he had been informed of what had happened although he was yet to hear his daughter’s side of the story. http://img2.transcoder.opera.com/assets/v2/7320d51ffa43a1eff7198693e2cb73a5?source=nlp&quality=og&format=webp&resize=320 |
