Information reaching me from a close family relative of the Emeritus Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu, in Imo State, Gregory Obinna Ochiagha says that the 89 year old Bishop has died. The late clergyman left to be with the LORD today Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He has been sick for a while and died at an undisclosed hospital in Enugu State, South East Nigeria. According to the official website of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu at https://orludiocese.org/bishop-emeritus, the Most Reverend Gregory Obinna Ochiagha, PhD., is the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu, Imo State, Nigeria. Born August 31, 1931, at Ibeme in Imo State, he was ordained a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia on July 31, 1960, by the Most Rev. Anthony Gogo Nwedo. He is the first priest of Umuahia Diocese, a diocese established in 1959. Bishop Ochiagha is among the pioneers of All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, Anambra State. He received his doctorate degree from the Catholic University of America. During the civil war, the Bishops of the old Onitsha Province appointed him to work with the government of Biafra. He was the only priest on the team that met with the delegation from Nigeria at Lome Togo for a peace talk and its restoration between Nigeria and Biafra. After the war, he became the Director of Communications for Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, between 1970and 1972.For five years, he was the Rector of Immaculate Conception Seminary, Ahiaeke, Umuahia Abia State. He was among the few priests elected to reopen the Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu after the civil war. Thereafter, he worked as a teacher(academic staff)as well as a bursar. Later he was appointed to be the pioneer Rector of Bigard Memorial Seminary, Ikot Ekpene campus in Cross River State (present day St. Joseph Seminary Ikot Ekpene). At one point, he was involved in curriculum revision for schools in the Old Imo State government and various boards of government. His Holiness, Pope St John Paul II appointed him first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu in 1980 and consecrated him a Bishop on January 6, 1981 in Rome. He was installed at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church on February 15, 1981. As a Bishop, he held many provincial and national responsibilities. Among them include: Chair, the Liturgy Commission of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria; Chair; planning and hosting of the National Eucharistic Congress in Jos 1983, and the Second National Eucharistic Congress in Owerri 1993; Chair, the Seminary Commission for the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province; and Chair, Seminary Commission for Owerri Ecclesiastical Province from inception until retirement as Bishop in 2007. Bishop Ochiagha believes in Divine Providence, the Church and the Priesthood. He enjoys the Latin language and has a passionate love for the Sacred Liturgy. Please don't ask me for a source, my uncle is a Priest and like a son to him...... |
Rossnitti:Please tell ATIKU to go back to the US because am sure that the waiver he got the last time has expired. |
Rossnitti:Why not balance the scale. 1. The army said they were not at the scene, they later admitted that they were there but never fired a single shot. After admitting to firing shots, they claimed they were blank bullets shot into the air. They even lied that the protesters were happy to see they and they (the army) shared snacks and water to the protesters. Finally, they owned up to also going they with LIVE BULLETS -----------what an upright organization. 2. The Attorney General of this Federation claimed they those that shot at the protesters were hoodlums in army uniform----------what an upright man 3. Lie Mohammed continued to claim that the Lekki incident did not happy --------------Father of uprightness If these are your ROLE MODELS,, then you are a pot calling a plate (not even kettle) black |
OZOnNengiTheory:how far with the north that accepted the reality? why are they being divisive with their challenges? we protested against SARS and many people thought we were united in the course until Bashir El Rufai reminded us that 'Nigeria does not start in Lagos and end in Abuja.' Adamu Garba followed suit that we wanted to dethrone the president................Same north now wants to play the victim card. ...............#ENDSARS was a lost opportunity to truly address our security challenges but thanks to agents of darkness like you and others, we lost that opportunity....................what is happening in the north is sad but they have to carry their cross like we did ours with #ENDSARS..................we were all together until people like you taught us to think otherwise. |
Arrewa:Your hatred for igbos is epic, yet you want them to remain one with you. To what ends if i may ask? The premise to my assertion is based on the fact that you have no proof that the people you are quoting are from the south east. Patriotic Nigerians must concern themselves with everything that happens Anywhere in Nigeria. Except your own definition of ONE NIGERIA is different. |
envoymedia:ADAMU GARBA is trying to be clever by half. he was never Pro ENDSARS, NEVER! his video in hausa language says it all......... |
lexy2014:They have their plans in motion. 1. RUGA, if it fails, then 2. National Life stock Transformation Plan and 3. Water resource bill. Any of the above will cede part of the region to the FG AND....................................... |
lexy2014:Pls tag ADAMU GARBA to do the needful..................sue the hell out of the protesters for disturbing baba who is taking a well deserved weeklong holiday at home. Whatever happens few kilometers away shouldnt be his business so why not wait till he returns to Abuja? Una want kee BABA? ADAMU GARBA over to you |
PHijo:and hoodlums wont be sent to infiltrate them Besides Nigeria is a limited liability company, only the shareholders (First class citizens) enjoy its dividends...........others like us only get paid for our loyalty or punished for our disloyalty to the CORPORATE EXISTENCE OF NIGERIA |
BafanaBafana:I 8 - 2 admit it but you are wrong...............if you know, you know |
Orjioorji:Pls show some respect |
Jonathan should learn from this man and resist the urge to contest in 2023 |
There is no such thing as hausa/fulani. There is hausa and there is fulani. Forget all these political higihaga |
leokid866:kuo isi na wall |
leokid866:Some comments and actions by people at that level can heat up the policy unnecessarily. So i admire his class |
leokid866:Jonathan will be a fool to allow himself to be used by the cabal to shortchange the south.............I voted against Jonathan in 2015 but i didnt know tvat i was supporting cry babies who could not understand the simple fact that government is a continuum. Jonathan's conduct since he left power, however, have earned him my respect. Even Buhari was not this civil then, not to talk of the attention seeking letter writer. |
The man is way above their league.............Lai Mohammed would have wished he said something so that he can leave CNN alone and focus on him......They blamed him for their incompetence for FOUR GOOD YEARS and he didnt utter a word.....he didnt even write a single LETTER like others...........that's CLASS |
donbachi:Ask Ned Nwoko |
Yamiriflathead:SECONDED!!!!! Rita Daniels is fighting a lost battle if she thinks she can stop Ned from further 'enlarging his coasts' |
Arrewa:I wonder why you are always against anything or anyone from the south east...........someone said he or she is from the middle belt and you called him or her an impostor....what proof do you have of his or her identity....are there not issues of kidnapping like the person raised? If some northern youths wants to blame Fashola for whatever, it is commendable as long as they realize that someone appointed him and all the bucks stops at his table. They should also blame the service chiefs for their GROSS INCOMPETENCE and insist on the President to fire ALL NON PERFORMING PUBLIC OFFICIALS including one that said that boko haram will remain for the next 20 years. Issues of accountability in the public sector should not be sectionalized. The protest would have made more sense if it was based on Fashola's alleged incompetence and not because he hates the north..................does Buratai also hate the north? |
LG TV na scam ooo.............am still in tears. I bought one last year after i sowed my old one as a seed to a neighbour. 13 months later, the speaker stopped working |
The Social Media they are planning to regulate was the same media that held on to the MainaGate, refusing to let go. Even when the government swept the matter under the carpet, reinstated the man, promoted him and possibly paid him salary arrears, the social media pulled the rug off his feet to reveal what was hidden........ |
hisexcellency34:Imagine the mindset! |
Arrewa:I agree with you totally............its not a Buhari issue though, it is a culmination of years of government failures at all levels, Buhari inclusive....People like Adamu Garba are also the North's problem. The ideology that we must support our own whether he is doing well or not is terrible. I supported the onslaught against Former President Jonathan - and i still do not regret it - but the attitude of many people to tag government critics as opposition elements or PDP is terrible. It is what you love and have interest in that should worry you. Some of these online paid agents do not love this country more than ordinary people like you and i.........Love of the President can never equate to patriotism.........see what is happening in America today. That is why the likes of Sowore, Oby Ezekwesili, Junaid Mohammed, Aisha Yesufu and Sheik Gunmi remain my role models of who a true Patriot should be. The Service Chiefs should be sacked..........That is where i am begrudging Buhari on. |
they remember now that PROTEST is haram because one of them is in charge but forget that even Saint Buhari PROTESTED as an opposition politician...........What they are not telling us is that PROTEST is haram when a Muslim is at the helm of affairs but halal when a non muslim is in charge |
alexvatt:Please share screenshots with us let's see. |
Oga pls do not hit the road in search of fifty naira roger!!! I beg you |
As many of you continue to play politics with human lives, we must all remember that ALL LIVES MATTER..............peace |
Esseite:According to the twitter user, Nigeria now has 19 states............where was the fool when Madam Aisha Yesufu co founded the Bring Back our Girls movement? |
DEEP...................... |
I expected Senator Kalu to share his experience in conducting local government elections while he was the Governor of the failed state of ABIA.........A state of spiritual oath taking before assumption of office, voodoo governance and endemic corruption. |
Who else noticed the spelling errors in that letter?? even the effective date of resignation sef.........................anyways, good luck to all of them |
