November 25, 2021

— Victims are siblings, tied to trees, about to be killed

— They would’ve been slaughtered- Amotekun Commander

— We move with hired cows from Okenne, Kogi state to Ondo, disguised to commit a crime – Suspects

—- We kidnapped siblings to get ransom

Dayo Johnson Akure

Two Fulani herdsmen suspected to be kidnappers have been arrested for abducting two fellow Fulani herdsmen in Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Council area of Ondo state by men of the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun.

Vanguard gathered that the victims are siblings and herdsmen.

The Commander of the state Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye said in Akure that a member of the syndicate, Sidi Amodu, was apprehended inside a forest in Supare Akoko.

Adeleye named the two victims to include Musa Ibrahim and Amidu Ibrahim, who are brothers from the same parent, were abducted and tied to the tree and their hostages were about to slaughter them when the Amotekun Corps arrived at the scene.

He explained that the criminals numbering seven, ran away, leaving Amodu who was sleeping behind when the Amotekun Corps invaded their den.

According to him “This is a case of herdsmen being kidnapped by fellow Fulani men. The two victims rescued by Amotekun are Musa Ibrahim and Amidu Ibrahim, they are siblings and they are herdsmen.

“They were kidnapped in Supare Akoko and valuables are taken from them after the kidnap operation and they were tied and about to be slaughtered by fellow Fulani men before our men got wind of it

“We penetrated the forest where they are hiding and we are able to apprehend one of the criminals.

“He confessed to the crime and said a gang is a group of seven and that they migrated into the state from Benin and Kogi state.

“He said the last kidnap they did involve eight people. He said they all scattered when the Amotekun men came in order not to be arrested

“We have been able to take care of the two victims that were abducted.

“The suspected kidnappers, Sidi Amodu claimed he came in from Kogi for the purpose of this kidnapping and that they hired cows as a cover-up because they are not the real owners of the cows

“He said they have operated in some bad portion of the road in Ajowa Akoko, Akunnu and Supare areas of the state.

“This is to tell criminals in Ondo state that our resolute to ensure zero tolerance to crime will not any other any condition compromised.

“We have been able to harvest other criminals in the last one week of the ongoing operation clean up. Many of them specialised in armed robbery

In an interview, one of the suspects, Amodu confessed to the crime and said that they moved with some hired cows from Okenne in Kogi state to Ondo state to perpetuate their criminal activities and disguised as herdsmen.

Amodu said ” we have been able to rob at some bad spots on the road in areas like Akunnu Akoko, Supare Akoko and Ajowa Akoko.

” We kidnapped the two brothers to get some ransom from them.

He pointed out that the group had been able to kidnap about eight people while their families paid the ransom for their release.

Also speaking, the two brothers said ” We received the beating of our lives from the hoodlums who covered their face and tied us to the trees.

Musa brahim said “They tortured us and told us to call our relatives to bring ransom to release us or they will kill us. They beat us and were about to kill us when the Amotekun men arrived at the forest”

Politics / A Nigeria in which we will play a second fiddle is most unacceptable—Afenifere by Nik77: 10:37am On May 17, 2021
Southern govs’ meeting: Afenifere blasts Sen President, says ‘sermon’ on restructuring mischievous

Yoruba won’t play second fiddle

Our irreducible minimum condition of staying in Nigeria is a restructured Nigeria

Dayo Johnson – Akure

The Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group Afenifere has lambasted the Senate President Ahmed Lawan for chiding the southern governors on their call for restructuring of the country at their Asaba, Delta state meeting recently.

Its General Secretary, Chief Sola Ebiseni, in a statement said the Senate President has displayed unpardonable ignorance by his submission.

“The call on the Governors to first ensure restructuring in their States is a display of unpardonable ignorance by the head of the National Assembly, who ought to know that restructuring is not at the act, omission or pleasure of any government or individual State actor, but a holistic overhaul of the structure and character of the State, enshrined in the constitution and binding nilly-willy.

“The scepticism by the people of the incapacity of the National Assembly to bring about any meaningful restructuring is justified by this expressed mind-set.

“The sermon of the Senate President chiding the Governors, as elected leaders, not to give voice to these popular views of the people is most mischievous because, in agreement with Governor Okowa of Delta State, the Governors would otherwise have no business staying in office.

“It is convenient for Senator Lawan to play to the gallery calling for functional Local Government administration, which we agree, but it is also an issue in restructuring which must ensure that justice is equally done to the States, contrary to the nebulous and unjust award of the number of Local Governments, by the military, as presently in the constitution.

The groups statement was entitled “The Senate President and other jittery reactions to the southern governors meeting.

It reads “The statement credited to the President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Lawan, best summarised some jittery and reactions to the birth of the Southern Governors Forum, their meeting at Asaba and the Resolutions arrived thereat.

“Nigeria came into being as an amalgamation of its Southern and Northern Protectorates, each of which is constituted by existing and entrenched ethnic nationalities.

“The North, which is more ethnically heterogeneous and exhibits irreconcilable intolerance among its faiths and even among sects of the same religion, still associates in different fora like a monolithic region.

“The existence and meeting of the Northern Governors Forum is taken for granted and the Buhari administration especially is pleased to relate with them as such an autonomous holistic region.

“For instance, at the aftermath of the #endsars# crisis, Northern Nigeria, on November 20, 2020, converged in Kaduna, in a meeting which paraded its 19 Governors and officials of the Federal Government which so shamefully exposed the nepotistic character of the Buhari administration.

“Senate President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Attorney General of the Federation, Chief of Staff to the President, Inspector General of Police, National Security Adviser etc, all attended the meeting as northerners with the northern traditional rulers in attendance and participated.

“The Federal Government was only forced to hold such meetings in the South but separately on the geopolitical basis of South West, South East and South-South.

“The Southern Governors Forum is, therefore, a welcome development in engendering a balance of opinion on a two regional basis rather than a cacophony of voices on zonal basis.

“The southern ethnic nationalities are more agreeable among themselves as religious crisis is completely non-existent, neither are there inter-ethnic territorial contests or the fear of territorial ambition by any ethnic nationality to possess the land and dominate any other group.

“The South is completely united in the quest for restructuring of the federation, devolution of powers to the constituent states of the federation; they all suffer from insecurity imposed on their people by ethnic Fulani terrorists herdsmen and related kidnapping and armed banditry.

“It is so embarrassing and most unfortunate that under General Muhammadu Buhari, armed ethnic militias in the guise of herding animals would attack, sack and occupy communities while the people are relocated to IDP camps.

“The Southern Governors Forum is the logical response to the need for a common platform for unity of purpose for development and fight against insecurity and all forms of criminality.

“The same powers exercisable by some northern states banning trading in alcohol and destroying such wares in hundreds of Millions of Naira, belonging mainly to southerners, is not different from same by Southern or any state regulating the business of animal husbandry necessitating the ban of open grazing and transporting animals by foot.

“The other Resolutions contained in the communique are equally national and most patriotic in their concept and applicability as panacea for peaceful coexistence and development of Nigeria.

“Every issue raised in the communique, as indices of a true federal State, which include State Police, devolution of powers to the federating states, review of the revenue formula, reflection of the Federal character in appointments including at the commanding heights of the economy and national security, are what we, in the Afenifere, have placed on the front page of national discourse, particularly since the return to democratic rule and also fully embraced by other patriotic organisations including the Southern and Middle Belt Forum.

“They are contained in the reports of the 2014 National Conference already in the custody of the National Assembly.

“Those who interpret any call for restructuring as secessionist agitations need be told that Nigeria can only move forward by negotiations on terms reasonably agreeable to its stakeholders.

“To us, in the Afenifere, and as stated in the inaugural address of our Acting Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, on Friday 14th May 2021, our consistent advocacy for the restructuring of the country to federalism is based on our founding philosophy.

“The Yoruba people are the only ethnic group that has never called for secession.

“We will be in Nigeria as equal partners in a federal Nigeria. A Nigeria in which we will play a second fiddle is most unacceptable.

“Therefore, our irreducible minimum condition of staying in Nigeria is a restructured Nigeria. Anything short of that is ‘‘to thy tent, oh Isreal.”

Afenifere concluded by saying that “The unity of horse and the rider in which a section of the country is the rider and we the horse is most unacceptable.”

Crime / Four Killed As Vigilante Members Raid Police Armoury To Confront Bandits by Nik77: 7:12pm On Oct 13, 2020
ByAbubakar Ahmadu Maishanu

At least four persons were confirmed dead on Monday in Rafi local government area of Niger State following a bloody clash with armed bandits.

Residents said the deceased are members of the vigilante groups who reportedly engaged the dreaded armed men who launched an attack at Tashan Kare village, an outskirts of Kagara town, Rafi local government headquarters.

The vigilante group protested against police inaction after several distress calls for them to come to their aid while they engaged in a fire fight with the gunmen, a source said, asking not to be named for security reasons.

He said the vigilante groups stormed the Emir of Kagara’s palace with the corpse of their colleagues in protest. However, the Emir was away in Abuja for medical reasons.

“The vigilante members went to the police station in Kagara town and called the police to join them in the bush to help chase away the gunmen as the bandits are still present with more sophisticated weapons better than theirs.

“The police officers declined the request, saying they needed an order from above. The vigilante members also pleaded with the police to lend them their guns to confront the bandit; however, the police refused,” the source said.

The vigilante members stormed the station’s armoury and whisked away about 10 AK-47s after forcing the police away, and returned to the battlefront and engaged the gunmen, many sources said.

The source added that one vigilante member was shot dead by the police while trying to snatch a gun from him, however, the police said the vigilante member was only injured and not killed.

Sources also confirmed that the looted guns were later returned to the police station upon intervention of the local government chairman, Isma’il Modibbo, with the support of some traditional rulers in the area.

The police spokesperson for Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES, confirmed the incident. He said the area is now calm following reinforcements of security personnel.

He said members of the vigilante group from Tashan Kare village, numbering over 50 reported at Kagara Division that armed bandits attacked their village, and four of their members lost their lives while confronting the bandits before the arrival of the police at the scene.

While the DPO of the station was addressing the vigilante members on the efforts made by the police to flush out the bandits, some members of the vigilante became violent and attacked the police station, the police said.

“On receipt of the information, the commissioner of police dispatched a reinforcement team led by the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations and upon their arrival, normalcy has already been restored due to the prompt intervention of the area commander Kontagora, personnel of Operation Puff Adder and conventional policemen attached to Kagara division to secure the division.

“In the process, one of the vigilante members attempted to snatch a rifle from the station guard, he was shot and sustained a bullet wound.

“However, normalcy has since been restored in the area and the commissioner of police, Adamu Usman, enjoins the good people of Niger State to be law abiding and go about their normal businesses.

“The police warned residents that they should not take laws into their hands no matter the provocation, as measures are being put in place to safeguard their lives and properties.

“He further directed the deputy commissioner of police in charge Investigation to launch a full scale investigation into the incident to unravel the root cause of the unfortunate incident and bring the perpetrators to book,” the police statement said.

Crime / Jihadist Ambush On Nigeria State Governor’s Convoy Kills 15: Sources by Nik77: 10:22pm On Sep 25, 2020
25 September 2020 | 9:08 pm

Jihadist fighters linked to the Islamic State group on Friday killed 15 security personnel in an ambush on the convoy of the regional governor in restive northeast Nigeria, three security said.

Sources told AFP that eight policemen, three soldiers and four members of a government-backed militia were killed in the attack on vehicles carrying Borno governor Babagana Umara Zulum near the town of Baga on the shores of Lake Chad.

The insurgents opened fire with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades as the convoy was passing through a village close to the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a military coalition of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

“The governor escaped unhurt but 15 security men on the convoy were killed in fierce battle with the terrorists”, one source said.

Zulum was on an assessment tour of Baga in preparation for the return of thousands of residents displaced from the town by the jihadists in 2014, the sources said.

The governor flew on a helicopter into the garrison town of Monguno, 60 kilometres (40 miles) away, and headed to Baga in a convoy under tight security, one of the sources said.

All three sources were talking on condition of anonyonimity.

The IS-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group maintains most of its camps on islands in Lake Chad and the region is known as a bastion for the jihadists.

The militant group has recently intensified attacks on military and civilian targets in the region.

In July Zulum’s convoy came under gun attack from ISWAP outside Baga, forcing him to cancel his trip to the town.

Last week the group killed a Nigerian army commander along with three soldiers in an ambush near the town of Damboa.

Civilians plying highway linking Monguno and the regional capital Maiduguri said the jihadists set up daily checkpoints, robbing, killing and abducting passengers.

The decade-long insurgency in northeast Nigeria has killed 36,000 people and forced over 2 million from their homes.

Most of the displaced have been housed into squalid camps where they depend on food handouts from international charities.

Local authorities have been encouraging the displaced to go back to the homes despite concern from aid agencies of the security risks to which the returnees would be exposed.

Last week Zulum said feeding the displaced was not financially sustainable, insisting the only option was for them to return and rebuild their homes and live a “dignified” life.

ISWAP splintered from the main Boko Haram group in 2016 and has gone on to be the dominant insurgent force in the region.

Crime / Security Officials Killed After Boko Haram Attacked Borno Officials by Nik77: 10:08pm On Sep 25, 2020
By Abdulkareem Haruna

At least 15 security personnel comprising eight policemen, three soldiers and four Civilian-JTF personnel died today after suspected Boko Haram gunmen ambushed a convoy of Borno officials travelling to Baga town.
The attacked officials, according to sources familiar with the attack, were heading to Baga town ahead of government’s planned return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Maiduguri to the camps.

A battery of armed soldiers and police officers, as well as Civilian-JTF personnel, were deployed to provide escort to the officials.

The convoy ran into an ambush by Boko Haram at a spot called Korochara, which is about 2km away from the base of the Multi-National Joint Task Force on the way to Baga from Monguno.

“Seven policemen, four C-JTF members and three soldiers died instantly as the insurgents rained bullets on the unsuspecting members of the convoy,” an official of the Borno state government who wouldn’t want to be named told our reporter.

The source said the attack happened at about 2 pm

Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, who is expected to supervise the arrival of the IDPs at Baga, had left Maiduguri earlier in the day via a military chopper.

Crime / BREAKING: Terrorists Now Occupy Kishi In Oyo, They Rape, Kidnap – Gani Adams by Nik77: 4:07pm On Sep 16, 2020
By Wale Odunsi

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams says armed terrorists now occupy parts of Oyo State.

He said intelligence indicated that they were at Old Oyo Game Reserve at Sooro village in Kishi town, Irepo Local Government of Oyo State.

He recalled his alarm late August that hundreds of men were seen on motorcycles heading towards the area.

The Aare warned that the development posed a great danger to the security of the entire South-West.

In a statement on Wednesday, Adams alerted that the sects were involved in rape, kidnap of locals, threats to livelihoods as well as access to forest resources.

The Yoruba leader said children, the aged and women are the most hit by the violent activities of outlaws.

“I have received numerous reports from Kishi, North-West of Oyo State. The reports range from ceaseless kidnapping, rape and threat to lives of Yoruba people in the Oke Ogun area with Kishi as the present hub of terrorist attacks. It’s my responsibility to alert the public and also the relevant authorities”, he said.

Noting that Oyo has the largest land mass in South-West and listed as the 14th in Nigeria, Adams declared that the agenda was to occupy Yorubaland.

He added that Oyo retains a traditional route that links Sokoto State and also borders Ogun State, South of Kwara State and the Republic of Benin and in the East by Osun State.

“The occupation of the land by armed groups is an assault on Yoruba heritage and civilisation. Part of the forest hosts the sacred tabernacle of ancient Yoruba Alaafin whose graves were located in parts of the forest. The killing and kidnapping of over a hundred people is frightening and worrisome.

“The records are there. The recent Intelligence report from Kishi is too frightening because terrorists have taken over the area, with the number of victims growing by the day. We need to react to these senseless killings because of the timing and exigencies. I have sent the report to the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

“I have also alerted the Director-General of Amotekun in Oyo state. I have also informed the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, through a message to his Assistant, and I have informed the Okere of Saki”, he said.
