Dear chukwudi44, I now understand that as Catholic, you're passionate to defend your group-identity. That's no problem to me at all. However, it is quite worrisome that your defence rests on very weak inferences and shallow conjectures that are uninformed. Please don't read that as accusatory; but let me draw just one example out of several -

There are two arguments in one statement you have put up there:

(a) Paul was not among the Twelve

(b) Paul was not an apostle

The first statement in (a) above is true, that Paul was not numbered among the Twelve. However, the second statement in (b) is patently false, for Paul was an apostle. Your argument to the contrary makes us wonder what you make of the fact that we often read of Paul as an apostle in the New Testament. In fact, Acts 14:14 there were two who were named apostles besides the twelve - "the apostle[b]s[/b], Barnabas and Paul" (note 'apostles' is in plural and applies to them both, Barnabas and Paul, which if added to the Twelve brings the number to fourteen).

Your argument denying the apostleship of Paul is twofold:

(i) that there were Twelve apostles - which means there could not have been more than twelve; and if that is the case, then the argument is refuted by Acts 14:14 that recognizes both Barnabas and Paul, making the number of apostles up to fourteen (and there are many more);

(ii) that the names of the twelve apostles are inferred in Revelation 21:14, and therefore there could not be more than 'twelve'? That again is does not mean that only twelve apostles existed all through the Christian Church, for a number of reasons:

~ the apostles which are gifts to the Church according to Ephesians 4:11 are said to be after the resurrection; the Twelve we read of were called in the Gospels before the Crucifixion;

~ Revelation is not speaking literally but rather symbolically; so there's no reason to think that there were literally twelve apostles, otherwise also in that Revelation 21 we should say that the Lamb is to literally marry a city according to verse 9 and 10.

~ even more to the point is that in the Gospels 'the Twelve' apostles included Judas; in which case, in as much as Peter recognized this fact in Acts 1:17, are you saying that Judas was one of the names of the apostles in Revelation 21:14?


All this just shows that your arguments are quite strained and your defences are weak since you're using very untrue assertions to make your point in favour of Catholicism. One would have hoped that you could hold your views about your own church soundly without denying what is so, so obvious.

Lagosboy post was neither informative, authoritative and neither does it present any convictions worth replying to. . . how then did these two posts make him worthy of nomination at the expense of others?  anybody with half a brain could have made the assertions on those two links. . .that probably explained why they moved u so much that u could boast of them.

Babs was not so active towards the end of the year. Abuzola tried but he caused too much troubles to be considered for award, the two folks nominated are more civil and mature in their approach.

1. when did the criteria become being active all year round? should the criteria not be the quality of the posts? is it too much to expect u to see things from an intelligent approach?

3. wisdom is expensive. had u being wise, u would have stated in ur OP the basis for each nominee making the final list and would have included olabs, babs, abuzola, oyb and maybe fellis and the_seeker . .  . . . since they spread across the various qualities that should be attached to the winner.

But since u lack wisdom, ur inefficacy and fallacy is allowed.

4. There is none of these people (olabs, abuzola, babs) I have ever agreed with in the course of discussion/debate on NL. . .  .but it is pertinent to give honour to whom it is due. If there is anyone who has made the islam section informative, thought provoking and worth visiting in 2009 . . it is these three persons. But of course they have a close to dumb moderator who lacks the required wisdom to decipher the imminent truth.

I deliberately left Olabs out because none of us here is in his class in knowledge, wisdom and even age. Such people are called statemen in political firmament, veterans or Doyen in professional parlance. He has been passionately defending Islam here almost since inception of the forum. He has become an institution. It will therefore be a mismatch putting his name up there with those two trying young men.

And lest I forget, I can keep silent on your diatribe on me, but not on Lagosboy and Muhsin. I can only believe reason deserted you when making such statement, because only a blind visitor to this section will say Muhsin and Lagosboy don't make meaningful posts.

The point is that ur so called analogy is fraudulent.

1. The historical path to the genuine teachings of the apostles is not a highway. There are several divergent views on it all. . .how and why should anyone take the OP or ur submissions as a true or final authority? why should anyone believe the analogy on this thread? why are the other versions of history on this subject false? why is urs alone right?

2. The teachings of the apostles can be found in the bible. . . .some of them have written gospels or letters which are part of the bible.
But the core teaching of the apostles is a Christ-like life which explains the continuous emphasis on the scriptures about Jesus. anyone looking for the core teachings of the apostles does not need this thread. . .the bible contains sufficient information.

3. u call all other versions of Christianity false and call urs right simply because u choose to include the poor, widowed and fatherless (while u have no sufficient proof to show that others are ignoring this creed of Christ). Good. . . .but the essence of Christianity is fellowship with fellow saints in God and NOT a one man crusade like u try to make it. From that point of view, ur attempts look more hypocritical than genuine IMO.

4. apostle Paul took this same route that u (kunleOshob) are taking. . . . .but He planted churches that fellow-shiped with other xtians every where he went to, while emphasizing the need to give to the poor and needy.

The thread seems overly ambitious. why should the narrative in the OP be believed by anyone? and why defend Christianity?
Considering that historical analyses are usually constructed to suit a preconceived agenda. . .what then is the use of this exercise? and whats the ulterior motive behind this? why is the narration above believable?

Christianity has to do more with faith and an incessant relationship with the father. . . . .that explains the collection of scriptures called the bible. attempts at constructing historical paths like this are not only deceptive and misleading but also aid confusion and misinform the saints of God.

The bible is enough reference for true believers.

I certainly agree with wirinet\'s submission. . . , but still advise that u dont work urself out too much to please people.

Given my passion for the true gospel of Jesus christ and my eagerness to see \"christians\" return to christ, i have often toyed with the idea of starting a ministry. But you have to realize that a ministry is not neccesarily a church movement. Infact if we want to be pragmatic i can say i have already started an internet ministry on nairaland cos i constantly minister to others on this forum on the evils of the false man made doctrine of mordern day compulsary tithing. I have also tried to minister to nairalanders on the true gospel of Jesus christ which is purely based on love, so already i can say i have a ministry. however i do not forsee myself starting a church as this is certainly not my calling. God willing my ministry would be one in which i can materially bless others spurned by the love for others which christ as planted in me. God willing i would start an NGO[my idea of a ministry] in which the focus would be to help the poor and the needy and the focus of my ministry would be motherless babies and orphans. This way i believe i would be able to lead more people to christ than the religious merchants that have mega churches and claim to be men of God

how would the NGO survive? would u not require donations and contributions from \"others\" ?

David has my vote. His succinct analyses, inherent knowledge, blunt, intelligent and honest analysis, coupled with intelligence and gospel wisdom stands him out.

Mazaje has my sympathy. he is a great guy, an intellectual, opinionated, well informed and has the capacity to accommodate divergent views.

AIO gets a mention from me. Though not in the league of David and mazaje, he knows his onions and has an arsenal of knowledge. his inability to proffer extensive analysis is a big minus.

He evokes the holy spirit as his source of inspiration with regards to the age of the earth as 6000 all the time. . . . .
