You tell us how the holy spirit speaks, If your holy spirit actually enables you guys to understand the bible why are their so many brands of christians and christianity? Shouldn\'t the holy spirit be sending the same signal and communicating the same message to all of you? The YEC says that it is the holy spirit that tells him that the earth is 6000 years old, The OEC also says that it is the same holy spirit that tells him that the earth is millions of years old. Why are there so many versions of Christianity that hardly agree on any thing? The many different sects and versions of Christianity stand as pretty strong evidence against an \"inspired understanding\" that comes from a single source. There is no such thing. If we grant the hypothetical of a holy ghost or holy spirit existing, then this entity is doing a really shitty job and should have been fired centuries ago.

This year God used me to teach a lot of christians the truth about tithing and show them from scriptures that God does not require tithes fromthem thereby freeing hundreds of his children from the schackles/yoke/burden of compulsary tithing placed on them by criminally motivated preachers. The truth is that no amount of intellectualism can save anyone, if anything at all i am certain that it stands in the way. That simple rural person stands a much better chance of finding and understanding Truth in all its great simplicity than any erudition can muster.

That's why i despise the sort of christianity that requires people to accept dogma they know nothing about.

Why should anyone for eaxample have to know anything about ANY of the following rituals -

  1. Supposed Adamic sin, via which the entire human race is labelled "guilty."

  2. Animal Sacrifices (OT) for temporary freedom from that supposed guilt

  3. The supposed incarnation of the Almighty GOD on earth as a Jewish man. . . (Olumba Olumba Obu. .  . Guru Maharaji. . . similar claims. . .)

  4. The supposed immaculate conception via which the said Jewish man entered the world without any prior act of copulation on the part of his supposed parents

  5. The judicial murder of that Jewish man along with some criminals and the supposition that the murder in question amounts to "salvation" for the whole world

  6. The paganistic Trinity Doctrine

Altogether you will agree that these things read similar to some psuedo oriental myth. But the force of history is such that these things are cherished as inviolable truth. A few days ago i told my colleague that the Bible does not teach that Jesus is God. She glared at me with wide eyed consternation and asked me to keep my distance, for such heresy. This same person will scoff at the claims of Olumba Olumba Obu to be God, forgetting that if a foreign nation invaded Nigeria today, and adopetd Olumba Obu's sect as its state religion, hundreds of years down the line many millions of people influenced by that foreign power would believe unconditionlly and dogmatocally that Olumba Olumba Obu is God.

It would have been comical if it were not so sad. The sad bit being that millions of people actually feel free to lead thoroughly sinful lives on the presupposition that Christ "has saved them" already on the cross.

You are assuming that a man named Jesus ever said any of the things people said he said. . . .The stories about jesus were written very long after he died by unknown authors, how are we really sure that a person named Jesus really said any thing that was ascribed to his name? How do we sure that it wasn't some gentiles that were trying to create a new religion out of the Jewish religion that wrote those gospels? He(Jesus) never wrote anything by himself and the stories written about him were written very long after he died and are completely contradictory to the actual history or historical events at that time. . . .

The stories about Jesus is nothing different from the stories about Hercules.  The stories of the wondrous deeds of Hercules are indeed fantastical and magical like that of Jesus.  They spark the imagination, but outside of the stories themselves, there is little to no evidence that those deeds were ever performed, or that most of the characters even existed.  There may be good lessons to be learned through the story of Hercules and Jesus (bravery in the face of danger, the strength of the human spirit, the power of love, etc.), but it is obvious to anyone who looks at the evidence that these stories are not based on reality.

There is absolutely no indication that Jesus did anything the bible said he did.  There are indications that other men did similar things. . . .  apocalyptic preachers in that area of the world at that time were pretty much every where.  All of them are attributed stories of miraculous healing, resurrection (themselves and others). . . .No one has ever found the empty tomb of Jesus and there is no record of its location.  His miracles are no different than those reported by other (and many popular) religious figures of the time.  Appolonious of Tyana is a good person to start with. . . . .

There are precedents for many things in the bible. Per your use of the word "Biblical" and my response above, what exactly is your point?

Their is no bone of contention. Tithing is not compulsory, but it is of course permissable. Little more than a cursory grasp of scripture will show that it is not a NT notion and rather pointless as a practise, superseeded as it were by something much more glorious.

Not sinful, not criminal, but at best lacking true insight. However the way it is sometimes peddled as compulsory with curses for failure to comply certainly is.

So a Christian relationship with God is about honouring Him with your worldly possessions?
So honour = tithing = Gods demand for sacrifice?

A compulsory 10% maybe a sacrifice, but it is not an honour to the almighty. An optional 10% may well be, but so would an optional 9% or 11%. As a one-off, frequently, infrequently. Can God be honoured without a tithe or without giving material things to Him?

Small, small. The saints of God, the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ have nothing they call their own. As its all held in trust. Everything is His. As you learn to know, hear, and trust Him, you'll know where, when, to whom and on what to spend that entrusted in your care.

I pray you are not bound, either by compulsion or option. He came to set the captives free.

Let me simplify it. The author of that piece is telling us, using anecdotes, that when you mock God he kills you. What you call "distorted analysis" shows clearly that these anecdotes do not prove anything. That you are simply reading too much into[b] everyday occurrence and coincidences[/b]. (Someone has shown that many of the stories are twisted or outright lies. But let's assume they happened as reported.)

People mock God and die. People mock God and prosper. People don't mock God and they die. People don't mock God and they don't die. Disprove this.

God is God and does not need assassins to prove that. For those of you getting into hysterics over God allegedly sending an assassin to a pop star for saying his band is more popular among kids than Jesus, you are free to believe what you like, but hope not to score against atheists with these below-the-belt-blow stories because they won't wash with a kid of six.
