I used a debit card and payment was successful. Just go ahead and try.

Hello FAM, i want to make payment for my ECA using ICES. I was told using online application that one requires a Credit Card and not debit. How do one go around this as most of the cards here are Debit Cards

@Smslive2, thanks a lot for your response, it gives me reassurance that I am on the right path. Yes, both roles still fall under skill level A.
And as you've advised, we will book medicals asap. Thanks again!

smslive2:
Let me try and answer to the best of my knowledge...

1. You can use the IELTS General u used for UK Visa, however, be sure to get ITA and AOR before the expiry date. I think it would be locked after that date so you might not need to write again. (Please seek further clarification on this)
2. POF: I would suggest you use both sources of funds...

3. You can request fr one work reference letter but make sure you check that both job roles are in the required job skill level (O, A or B)

4. Medicals, I would advise you book your appointment now considering you have a limited time to submit your application due to your IELTS expiry date, there is currently a long wait time for medical appointments in Nigeria now. If you are in the UK, i think wait times for Visa Medicals is still 1month, so either way, you need to act fast!

5. Amen to your prayers

My fellow future Canadians cheesy I am just starting the EE journey and I would really appreciate if the gurus could take a look at my plan and give advice.

I am married (we are both 33yo with no children) and we plan to immigrate together to Canada by God's grace. Our CRS currently stands at 442.

IELTS - I plan to use an existing IELTS general that I wrote for UK Visa. Please will this be okay? My score was L-9, R-9, W-7.5, S-7.5. However it expires first week of December and I really hope we can get ITA and submit e-APR by then so I don't have to write it again o. Is this a realistic target?

My partner will write IELTS in a few weeks to boost our score (already booked) and hopefully get his result by early Nov.

ECA - I have MSc and partner has BSc. We have already started the evaluation process with ICES (shout out to you guys for the tip!) & our transcripts have been received from our universities. Hoping we can get the ECAs by early Nov.

POF - I need advice on this one o. We currently have the required funds in a joint account by depositing money from our individual salary account last month. So we have only had the money there for just a month. I don't know if this is acceptable for POF. The other alternative is to use a cash fund that I have with my employer (similar to what Indians call provident fund). The money will be paid to me in full lump-sum when I leave the company. The amount meets the POF requirement too and I think I can get a letter from my employer to back this up.
Should I use both options, just to be on the safe side? Please advise me o.

Work reference letter - I have only worked for one company but there was a break in my employment e.g. 2014-2016 working in Nigeria,2017 personal leave, 2018 working in UK for the same company but with a different job title. I want to claim 3+ years of experience so I am planning to request for just one reference letter that will state all the job titles I have had with dates and the r&r. Will this be acceptable?

PCC - in progress

Medicals - planning to do this as soon as we get ITA.

Thanks everyone, God will favour us all o!!

I also recommend worldremit, the rates are not bad and it is convenient and fast. Also just to add, if your wife uses worldremit, she can get 15 pounds cashback via topcashback https://www.topcashback.co.uk/world-remit-ltd
AND she can get additional 20 pounds if she is referred by an existing user.

Please, guys what's the cheapest and best way for wifey to transfer funds to me in naija?

Is creating UK PayPal a bright idea?

Thanks in advance
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by nomad26: 9:30pm On Sep 13, 2018
Chiinj, just to add this: from my personal experience sponsoring my parents, I didn't need to post any original documents. I simply downloaded online copies of my bank statement, together with electronic copies of my payslip, sent via email to my mum and she printed them to submit at the visa centre. Even the invitation letter, I signed it electronically and also sent via email.
So if you can, just send your documents via email to your visitor.

Lexusgs430:

A - Simply request log on details......
B - The applicant submits documents in Nigeria. So sponsor has to find a way to send original documents + biometric copy......

I regularly take powdered peak milk from Nigeria to UK and never had any issues.

Zoey1:
Please is it still possible to carry powdered milk? or any kind of milk is banned?

Travel / Re: Tier 2 UK Visa Enquiries by nomad26: 8:36pm On Sep 05, 2018
For tier 2 visa, you need the IELTS UKVI General test, if this is the one you have then you can use it.

English language proficiency at CEFR Level B1 is required, which is equivalent to an ielts score of 4.0 in all categories https://www.britishcouncil.org.ng/score

No your spouse does not need to write ielts

Lovell234:
Can a general ielt result from British council be used for a tier 2 visa? What ielt score is needed for a UK tier 2 visa, and does an accompanying spouse need to write ielt too?
Travel / Re: Tier 2 UK Visa Enquiries by nomad26: 10:22pm On Sep 04, 2018
This is not totally correct, you only need police certificate IF your job requires you to work with vulnerable people. I did not include police certificate for my tier 2 visa application. I suggest you do more research before potentially wasting your money.
Hunnybee:
Ok. Thank you very much.

Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by nomad26: 8:32pm On Aug 11, 2018
From my experience, I think the documents you are submitting is adequate. If there are large deposits on your mum's bank statement, I'd advise that she addresses them in her cover letter. Good luck! smiley

chiinj:
Thanks nomad26. She owns a small business and is actively involved in her home church. I intend to submit the following:

For myself (to show that I am the sponsor):
- letter of invitation stating that I am the sponsor and will be providing accomodation, ticket and upkeep
- original birth certificate
- recent payslips (up to the last 6 months)
- salary/current account savings showing recent transactions plus the amount that I have budgeted -£800.
- copy of my tenancy agreement
- copy of my passport data page and BRP

For my mum

- 6-month bank statement showing that she has the emergency fund in her account
- some of our pictures (i'm not sure about this one)
- cover letter signed by her confirming that she is my mum and explaining her ties to home, business etc.
- proof of business - CAC certificate of her company and necessary tax docs
- proof of ties to home - she has some speaking engagements lined up on her return back to Nigeria. we will be including flyers.

What else can I add to this please? Thanks.

Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by nomad26: 11:41am On Aug 10, 2018
1. No the CoS is not just a number, it is a document that contains information about your wife's sponsorship. Your wife should have a copy of it, mine was two pages.
2. You can pay IHS fee before or after you start your application https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigration-application/pay
After payment, a reference number is generated. Print the confirmation email with the reference number and include with your application.
Good luck.

technobayo:

Hello,

Please, in view of my Tier 2 Dependant UK visa to join my wife, I'd like you to help clarify the following:

(1) The CoS - from what I know is just a number. Is there any doc of any sort that one needs to print out?
(2) IHS or NHS - I haven't seen anything to its effect during my application filling. Where and how do I make the payment?

Thanks

Hi chiinj,

Does your mum work or own a business or is she retired? What documents are yoy submitting as proof of ties to home? I'd suggest you list out all the documents you plan to submit and guys here can advise accordingly.

chiinj:
Wow! Congratulations to you and your parent.

House please. I intend to do the same for my mum. Although the budget will be different. I'm looking at a budget of £800 because from the thread, endlessgrace, ekpotek etc advised that it is better to have the money for the ticket + a small amount to cover additional expenses (i'm thinking of £200).

I only intend to submit my current(salary) account along with payslips and other information although I will be moving the money from my savings account ( I will explain that I moved the money from my savings to prove that the funds are easily accessible in a cover letter).

Although I will be sponsoring the trip fully, I will be stating that in the form but will say that she will have some money to hold during her trip in case of any emergency.

Please house can someone advise me if I am missing some more information. Does she need to submit other documents apart from birth certificate, proof of ties to home and bank statement to show she has the money to hold for the trip in her account?

Thank you

They did biometrics on 12th June and got passports back on 3rd July, excluding the sallah public holidays and weekends, it took 13 working days.

marylanderr:
Thank you for your quick response. Yes, all of the about were submitted. Bank statements however does not have much but shows a steady inflow of payments. Submitted support letter, bank statements from the UK, then land properties, employment letter and bank statements from parent’s side in Nigeria. How long did your parents’ application take? We applied a week ago but I only just received an email saying application in possession of Ukvi even though TLS has had it like that since last week.

Thanks again.
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by nomad26: 10:14am On Jul 11, 2018
In my own opinion, I think it is perfectly acceptable. In my case, I am not a british citizen, I am on Tier 2 visa and I stated that I am fully sponsoring my parents trip as a gift to them.
However, we also included proof that they are both working (self-employed) and have businesses in Nigeria that they will return to. I think this helps to satisfy the ECO's concern that they won't stay back in UK illegally. We also included their bank statements (they both had roughly 600k each in their accounts) and two land documents.
In summary, from your end, provide proof that you have adequate funds to sponsor them and from your parents end, provide proof that they are established in Nigeria and will return after their trip. Good luck smiley

marylanderr:

Can you advise on how this worked out for you? If a British citizen is trying to invite her parent and is sponsoring the parent’s trip (as a gift) is it accepted?

Thanks

I can't answer number one
2. No it won't affect your visa application
3. Your marriage certificate is the ultimate proof of your union, nowadays it is not unusual to still keep your maiden name after marriage.

kemitomi:
Gurus clear me on this
I'm married but still bears my Maiden name that I used for my passport (don't want to change my name for now), my passport expires in 3 months so I need to do a renewal.
Now my question
1. Will NIS update my status to married (remember I won't change my name)
2. If NIS won't update my marital status will dat affect me when I apply for visa as married and want to travel with husband and son who has a different last name from mine
3. What documents do I have to provide at the embassy to buttress the fact that am now married even though my recently renewed passport still bears my old name and has my status as single.
Thanks

Guys, I think this will be welcome development for us all. I have seen several people on this forum refused visit visa for frivolous reasons, without any right of appeal. It is great to see that someone is finally challenging the Home Office on this issue. Click the links below to see articles published on Guardian:

@PefHouse,
I don't think your dad needs to write a sponsorship letter. In your case, your mum is the sole sponsor of their trip so I suggest she writes a cover letter and both of them sign this letter.
This is what I did for my parents visa application - one cover letter written by my mum and signed by her and her husband (although I was the sponsor in their own case).

PefHouse:
Good day house,
Can someone please advice. My parents intend to go to the UK to visit my sister.

Mum: Still works and receives her salary (salary account), she also has her savings (savings account). She did a lump sum transfer from the savings to the salary (2weeks to intended application date). She would be presenting only the salary account to cover all expenses of the trip for both of them.
Dad: Is a contractor, no steady income ( he does not intend to use his account).

Now in other to show proof of finance
- Does my dad need to show a letter of sponsorship even if they are married and intend to travel together
- I hope no flags will be raised on the lump transfer

Note: Both have been issues UK visas in the past and have traveled there

Thanks

I will come back and post timelines for each application. I wish everyone success with their applications and I'm happy to answer any related questions smiley

Yes, your tenancy agreement is enough as proof of accomodation. That's what I used for my partner's tier 2 dependant visa, we didn't submit any letter from landlord and visa was approved.

Jaydee11:

Thanks Mr KDK for your response too. I am not sure my husband will allow him to travel alone. He is just 6, my husband won't allow O. It is okay for me to go nd pick him, although I need to do a few things in naija so I will use dt opportunity.
Also, as regards our accommodation in UK, is the tenancy agreement OK for proof of suitable accommodation or do we need to get a fresh letter from our landlord?
Thanks so much.

I disagree with oxygyne's statement.
'Mrs' is a title for married women while 'Miss' is for unmarried women. It doesn't matter if you change your name or not.

Loritess:

Ok thank you very much. I don’t have intentions to lie lol. But I’m my application after my wedding will I put Miss or Mrs and my maiden name? Because I won’t do a change of name until I get to the uk.
Travel / Re: UK Spouse Visa/Appeal Process-part2 by nomad26: 9:35am On Jun 10, 2018
This is really sad and I think unfair on the part of the home office - they could have contacted your husband to submit the missing payslips. Here's what I advise: as soon as you complete the new application and receive your visa, your husband should contact his MP to write to the home office to see if the cost of the first application can be refunded. It's a worth a shot to recover your money back.

shemafia:

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to go all silent. My application was not successful. Its not exactly funny dealing with a refusal.
Reason for refusal: Hubby mistakenly submitted bank statement for 2 months instead of 6. Not that he didn't have it (He has worked at the same job for almost 10years), but as of now he can not say how he managed to make such a mistake.
I was so sure we would get it, because i did my home work well. Moving forward, we will try again. Immediately.
I wish everyone still waiting a happy ending.

If you have prior driving experience in Nigeria, I would suggest Aviva because they take into account total number of years you've held a licence (not necessarily a UK licence) which makes the quote much cheaper.
Also, if you buy through topcashback app, you can get 50 pounds cashback on your insurance.

Mamatukwas:
Sabi folks in the house. Good morning.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will give us fair rates to be able to drive. I heard that as new drivers and non-eu members rates can be quite high. Pls if anyone knows a coy who isn't too biased in this direction kindly recommend. Thanks.

Completely agree! You don't need proof of address to open a starling account and the process takes less than 30mins. I've been using starling bank for over 6 months with no complaints. In fact, I am considering making it my main account sef.

Account that starling bank, monzo bank and revolut will open for you without stepping out of your room with just a copy of your naija pali or provisional driving licence. In fact, starling bank account is arguably the best current account in the UK as at today

Yes you can. Start date on my CoS was 15 days before I even applied for the entry visa and it was approved. Although I also included a note addressing this in the additional information section of my application form.

I have been assigned a certificate of sponsorship from my sponsor and want to apply for my Tier 2 visa. The issue is, the job start date on my CoS is 2nd January 2018 but I don't think it would be possible for me to apply before this date. The CoS will expire in March.
Can I apply after the stated start date if it is still before the expiry date of my CoS?
