For some strange reason, this news gives me hope! I get the idea that the group may actually be being used and pushed into such requests by Jonathan himself to help give him reason to lose some deadweights by armtwisting himself! If by any chance this is true, I expect him to use the excuse and kick out these deadbeats
PoliticsRe: Kano: “we Have Lost 38 Igbos In 2 Months” – Ohaneze by nuclearboy(m): 9:50pm On Jan 25, 2013
How many people exactly have died in Kano in those 2 months?

Is it only those 38 Igbos that are human?

How do you think other ethnic groups will feel about you knowing that you see only Igbos as humans?

Tribalism is not a virtue! Someone here said Yorubas are cowards - what does that have to do with this issue? Are you building or burning bridges with such rash statements?

Unfortunately, when the "feedback" of such come back, you start weeping and feeling cheated - its sad you are shooting yourselves in the foot with this attitude

I believe he will buy PDP if he can placate OBJ! That is his real battle because OBJ seems to have gotten to a point where he wants GEJ out!

However, the chickens WILL come home to roost because this time, many will collect the money and turn against him! This same scenario played out in Oyo where people took money from PDP but voted their conscience! A reasoning GEJ will avoid humiliating himself as is likely to happen

I wish the man could visit threads like this and see what his indifference towards qualitative measurable progress is causing his name and people!

For a sitting president to get to the point where people will state that they wish him killed and someone even said he'd go to jail later, shows he has lost immeasurable respect and goodwill! Its sad! Worse is this raggedly collection of online brigands who insult the collective by trying to shout everyone down - if you had true progress, people would shut it themselves!

I remember dancing gleefully when he trounced Atiku at Eagle square and know so many others who did same! Today? Most wish different and that alone speaks volumes

What would it cost to try reduce corruption, the steady decline of the society into ruins, the dehumanization of Nigerians etc?

When he came aboard, he didn't inspire, but now?... ... he downright irritates
PoliticsRe: Realistic Options For Opposition Presidency In 2015? by nuclearboy(m): 8:44am On Jan 23, 2013
We need to also consider the governors and PDP stalwarts who influenced the 2011 voting pattern (and results) in the north - now that GEJ has effectively said "to your tents O Israel" and watched\allowed BH decimate the north with the JTF becoming almost more unpopular, I doubt any northern politician who has plans for his head will tacitly or otherwise support GEJ! Fear of the reprisals from 2011 will likely keep most Christians in the north from going to the polls as well!

Put soldiers in the booths & with what we saw last time, even they will be scared to allow thumb-printing as was done last time!

Violence aside, the same will likely pan out in the SW! And if the Dokubos etc continue at this pace, GEJ may end up in a ditch in places where he currently feels secure!

The only thing that can change this (from my point of view) is GMB not entering the race! Knowing PDPs desperation, I have wondered a few times if we won't hear of assassination attempts on GMB
PoliticsRe: Realistic Options For Opposition Presidency In 2015? by nuclearboy(m): 8:38pm On Jan 22, 2013
Deep Sight: Well since you agree that Buhari cannot get anything from the SS or SE, then that leaves the SW as the only bone of contention, right? You say that he will get votes from the SW if ACN supports him. But I say that this is not true. The Ribadu precedent is there. He was the ACN candidate, and while the SW electorate went ahead to vote for ACN Governors and parliamentarians, they rejected the ACN Northern Presidential candidate in favour of GEJ.

As far as I am concerned, Buhari is not any more palatable to the SW electorate than Ribadu was. If anything, the SW electorate have a strong tradition of rejecting perceived tyrants, and like I said before, I doubt that they would ever vote an ex-Military Head of State - not even Murtala Mohammed if he were alive - as president. Remember the OBJ case - a Yoruba man himself! - serially rejected by the SW electorate for same reasons. How much more likely is it then, that they would vote a northern ex military Head of State? As such, it seems to me that the entire south will still reject a Buhari Candidacy.

Yes, I agree that the candidacy may have a chance in the SW with Fashola on board as running mate, but at best that will only split things up. There will still be large swathes that will reject the notion simply on account of Buhari. Especially as they know that the VP slot has no powers whatsoever. Finally, be careful about Fashola's popularity. I know very well that he has become deeply unpopular among the lower and poorer classes in Lagos for many of the recent measures he has taken - measures, which, of course, he would never have taken in his first term.

At the very best, such a ticket will split the SW presidential vote. Many would still go for GEJ as opposed to Buhari, I tell you.

This discussion has made me weary. It has made me feel that there is no real present hope to unseat PDP at the centre.
If as you say, the SW rejects tyrants and tyranny, methinks they will reject a 2012 tyrant (fuel subsidy photos of General Sani Jonathan strike a nerve?) over one from 30 years ago!

honeric01: so tell us how he is a despot, decisions he took alone, those he oppressed and when/how he displayed unlimited power.

With facts and historical evidence, please hightlight how he oppressed the citizens/masses.

You want him to call fire down from Heaven? cheesy You need a water, air, fire or earth bender to show such things! What our NL "pastors" do today is throw unsubstantiated threats and accusations around in the hope of hitting something
PoliticsRe: Realistic Options For Opposition Presidency In 2015? by nuclearboy(m): 9:21am On Jan 22, 2013
Pastor Kun: My brother you are still giving yourself high blood pressure over that old despot. Abeg take am easy jor. The best buhari can do for this country is to anoint a credible young and dynamic candidate who is in touch with the realities of our time. I have told you countless times that a buhari that was a non performer in his youth can never hope to perform as a disgruntled vision less old hag.
I know how this will pan out! I will state a few things here which you will refuse to address OR failing that, you will weep uncontrollably making no sense in the rants you will spout!

"Non - Performer" -

1. built all Nigeria refineries!
But that's nothing to you since he was acting under orders, right? Yeah, Leke Orubebe, Diezani, Anenih etc built the roads etc they got funds for!

2. Fought and won the only cross border battle Nigeria ever was engaged in, in a blitzkrieg that was so fast that the war was over before even the then C-in-C was aware hekd started the effort! Note that your non-performer returned ALL the funds sent for prosecution of the war (in effect saving the nation extra costs)

3. PTF - need anyone say more?

4. Wiped out, I said WIPED OUT Maitasine, another Boko Haram lookalike! These were Muslims killing Christians and under your non performer, they were totally annihiliated in under a week!

5. Remains the only prominent political figute in Nigeria who has consistently challenged the entire nation (in effect the world) to expose any criminal shenenigans he has EVER been involved in! Here's where the childish moan about 1984 but luckily, history tells us he never committed treason! And I still want to hear who else has that level of respect to NOT be involved in High Treason but find himself primary beneficiary!

6. That administration remains the most disciplined and forthright in Nigeria's history! So forthright that, those who felt he'd allow them play games ended up turning against him because they found it wasn't the case!

@Pastor-Kun: come, start your weeping and gnashing of teeth - show us with FACTS (like Jesus did) where General Buhari was a non-performer!

Else please go preach about tithes someplace else and leave truth to those who use brains, not emotions
PoliticsRe: Realistic Options For Opposition Presidency In 2015? by nuclearboy(m): 6:12am On Jan 22, 2013
Eziachi: Who is this "we"? Buhari in my opinion is a very honest and straight forward man, whose likeness will never win election in Nigeria because his principle of honesty doesn't conform well with the normal Nigerian standard.
But I do believe that many of you in the SW hailing him now are not genuine, you want to use his good name as a ladder to climb back into position of power through the back door of a possible VP position. After all the guy is ageing.

You had the chance to make him president in 2011, what did you do? You sold him a penny and half to Jonathan/PDP. In 2003, you had the chance but you chose the rogue of your son OBJ and to the extent of sacrificing AD governors in the process.

So you guys are not fooling anyone with this your sudden Buhari is now your messiah of convenient. Though I still regard him as the only genuine politician alive today in Nigeria irrespective of what his detractors has chose to paint him and programmed bigoted Nigerian tribalist to believe.
Yes, he was sold out in 2011 but not by the SW (except you consider Tinubu as the south west)! What happened was 2 pronged 1. The hype about the name "Goodluck" + the stories bandied about how he always from being number 2 displaced his number 1, pushed many of our overtly religious lazy selves to believe that he had a date with destiny! Maybe he did indeed but today, that destiny is seen by most as destructive rather than restorative! 2. The failure of the "merger" which translated into apathy in the SW.

Today however, it is frightening how a man so hailed in 2011 has become so reviled! And you'd be amazed how people are informally preaching Buhari and recollecting 1984! Suddenly, its as though people remember "NOW", that we became clean, reasoning etc in his day!

We (as though women) have served 2 husbands now and now know the good husband is not the flamboyant one who took us to parties when wooing us but the quiet one who builds and maintains the home

^^ I am sorry Gbawe, but once DeepSight makes up his mind, he won't back down - not to facts, not to reason, not even to basic tenets of fairness and decency! Your post (no matter how factual) will be overlooked or more likely swept aside & dismissed! His prior comments show that GMB is not what he wanted brought up on the thread

PoliticsRe: Realistic Options For Opposition Presidency In 2015? by nuclearboy(m): 10:12pm On Jan 21, 2013
Deep Sight: Frankly I am shocked and utterly gobsmacked that you would state that Buhari's treason of 1983 "restored pride to our nation".

This statement is so bewildering that I cannot fathom a response. Not even in light of the truncation of the young democracy - which led to 16 of the darkest years in Nigeria's history.

O kare o.
How old were you in those years, pal? What did you know of what it was like under shagari and his band of thieves? GMB's government was one of repair and those old enough then KNOW (not think) that Nigeria changed in his year and months of power! that's why you find such asinine arguments as "it was Idiagbon that did the magic" being bandied about today by those who hate at all costs! They say it because the "magic" cannot be denied!

And he wasn't a part of the coup as people as elderly as Eziachi have also stated above! Yes, he benefitted and that in itself is a testimony - what manner of man is so respected that he becomes primary beneficiary of treason that he wasn't involved in? History records that when some people rejected him being made head of the new government, weapons were drawn - what manner of man commands such devotion? Even on this thread, look at the spread of posters fanatically supporting him - name another man in this country's history who has commanded such followership and respect! You know who I am - tell me whyever I ought speak for GMB!

Reason sits at our windows and calls to each of us! I think you should heed its call and forget semantics - the man stands heads and shoulders above ANY other (as at now)!

Please ignore the deludee! I don't know how someone can make so much noise and yet say nothing! Aside the obvious (till today) exploits of the PTF, even the idea that this same person has remained the greatest fear of all those who are what's wrong with Nigeria is more than enough claim to goodness!

pazienza: Buhari is a murderer and a coup plotter who truncated our democracy,in saner climes,he should have been hung.
Use the same criteria to judge - if Buhari, who accepted to take over a rapidly failing country and went ahead to restore to a great extent our pride as a nation in 21 months, should have hanged, tell us what should have happened to the man who seceded and cost 3 million lives because he didn't want the oppression that was the order of the day then!

I know at this point the barking will start, but take note, I ain't scared of dogs!

ndu_chucks: Clearly, a vast majority of Nairalanders rightfully believe that the next President should come from the North. Kudos to you guys for recognizing this reality.
I think what most Nairalanders believe is that Buhari should be the next president starting 2015! I also think they are right in that assertion!

Those expecting militants to say "its our oil" forget that the reason such ideas came up is because of the irresponsibility of past leaders in taking care of the regions that produce the oil! Interestingly, there has been NO difference now that their "son" is in charge!

Under an accountable, sincere and responsible Buhari who's seen to be doing the right thing(s), law and order will be restored!

This is instantly obvious to all but the laptop gang (and other human garbage) who are not interested in a honest days work, but want the present irresponsibility to continue
PoliticsRe: General Buhari Stole Money? by nuclearboy(m): 4:02pm On Jan 21, 2013
They say Idiagbon was the powerhouse during GMB's administration!

I am waiting for them to tell us who was the powerhouse when he was governor! Who was the powerhouse when he was petroleum minister? Who, when he was GOC and went to the only cross border war Nigeria ever got entangled in without even collecting any money to prosecute the war? Who was his powerhouse in the PTF?

Nigeria hates her best and worships her worst

I have always said it matters not where the C-in-C comes from - what matters is his actions and sensitivity to what his people want!

Why do you feel there's nothing "wrong" about this? The dude promised, didn't he, that he would run only one term!

I see this as another indicator, in a long list of such, that worse days are ahead - the core insane north, will only get angrier and Nigeria will boil further! At the same time, the man himself loses more credibility and respect from all and sundry!

If he was performing well, the common man would support him but that's not the case - so his ambition will cause more trouble, worsening the insecurity in the land, further entrenching tribalism and division yet adding zero value to Nigeria! Its just the less than 1% who are (in)direct beneficiaries and the ethnic warriors who wish disintegration (since they never saw war) that will be pleased! Yet when the common man curses or rejoices at evil befalling them, people will come out and scream! You are dehumanising your own people for personal selfishness yet believe they ought continue to love you - na wa O!

2013 - I fear!
k2039: [color=soyouquotedme]Congratulation to GEJ.

Nothing wrong, even without the campaign it's obvious he has second term ambitions.

The beauty of democracy is just that campaign is not sufficient to win elections, it boils down to the masses.

For Okupe, I have absolutely nothing to disagree with him about, he is just doing his own work. He can hype or over rate the president for all I care, it still doesn't change the reality of GEJ's presidency to any sane mind.

Truly glad you took the time to clarify that!

However, its on record that he was "forced" to resign because there were conflicts of interest! If there was clear evidence that he himself decided he ought not referee between himself and "himself" and thus resigned voluntarily, you'd be justified saying he wasn't indicted! As it is, for our present government to ask (absolute shock) someone to resign is indicative of horrors better unimagined!

Their business, their way - one day, the chickens will come home to roost! What matters is your cleansing yourself from that statement which had capability to "dirty" you (some of us admire you)!

This ethnic issue on NL is just sad!

As per Pa Achebe, I think many Ibos don't understand why many people are so condemning! You will notice most commentators say they are "disappointed" in him, not that they "hate" him!

So here's a poser -

Imagine you are going out and you see a crowd gathering - 2 small (under 10) children are fighting and a respected village elder, rather than stop the fight and appease the combatants, starts to cheer them on and even throws sticks and weapons to each, so that not only can they continue to throw blows, but can now break each others heads!

Would you praise such an "elder"? Or express disgust and disappointment at his action(s)?

I love his literature, respect his rejection of spurious value-less Nigerian awards and honor his age! But I unapologetically find it reprehensible that an 80 year old prefers to fan enmity and tribalism! Its sad that the legacy he leaves behind is one of continuing hatred!
