Hi Guys, I did a scan on my 2009 Corolla S and it gave a P0420 Code: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). The Mech recommended I replace the catalyst (indomie) which he gave me a quote of 85K for original one. While another one that can fit is 45K (this is not the follow come according to him).

Another option is for him to remove it and when I have the funds, he will buy another one and put it. He said the engine may be affectted because it is not breathing well due to the bad catalyst. The implication of removing the catalyst is higher fuel consumption from what he said.

I don't have 85K to cough out in the PMB's era, and I am not too clear on the implications of taking out the catalyst.

Please the gurus in the house I need the following clarifications

1. How much does the original Catalyst for 2009 Corolla S cost?
2. Is the "worked one" a good replacement part instead of the follow come?
3. What is the impact on my fuel consumption if the catalyst is removed?
4. Can the catalyst be repaired? (I saw a video on Youtube by Scotty Kilmer where it was soaked and washed overnight and it was restored to performance)
5. Any reliable mechanic in Abuja should also indicate so I can get a second professional opinion

Pls I will really need your help on this No3 issue I also have a golf 4 and is consuming fuel which I've tried some possible mean by changing and repair some of the part, but I just discovered that, my Fan doesn't start immediately when I start the car until I raise the turtle or when the engine is little bit warm. Pls does this have any significant impact on how the car is consuming fuel. Pls I need more explanation. Despite my rewire told me that that was how the car was design so the the car will be at at once as the battery may not carry the engine if the fan start together with the engine. your fan is not supposed to start blowing when car is just warming up. it is supposed to blow at a particular set temperature when the temp gauge is around 90 on your instrument cluster.

As for the fuel consumption thing, if you have your check engine light on, then a scan would reveal solution to that

Please can we use Mobil 1 for a Kia Cerato that has been using Total oil from inception. Vehicle was purchased brand new.

if there is no sludge in the engine you can switch to full synthetic oils. Because synthetic oils have detergent in them, they will wash off the sludge causing havoc in the engine.

Also what kind of weight is the total oil?

They have removed your gear and remixed the gear wire to the brain box what you have now is an hybrid Toyota sienna.
You need to buy a new gear box complete with 13pin and fix. If you still have the old one, let a qualified technician check it's state.

I would advise you find a new mechanic at this rate they are milking you and you may sell the car to them for peanuts eventually

The car only developed overheating, I spent over 200k to fix that, though it includes shock absorbers, engine seat etc.

After fixing that, gear problem enter, which was not there before ooo!

They do do do ooo, so tay, they change gear from 13pin to 10pin, having waited gear oil of 20k thrice. Now, they are asking me to cough out 45k for an extra brain box for the gear to work well… you see my life…?

the 10pin is for the 04-06 with 3mz engine. don't waste money on buying any rubbish brain box store the car if you can't afford the expenses now. what you need is the right gear box 13pin

pick the 4runner only if you need extreme off road vehicle good for farm runs and one in a while off road show off.

The fuel economy of the highlander isn't bad has a good ground clearance. would be ideal for in city riding and travelling too.

if you are not hauling cargo around, into construction and not a farmer that goes into gully and slippery territory to me the 4runner is not worth, the highlander is good enough.

the problem with your vehicle is mindset.
how can you expect same fuel usage of a 1.8L 1150kg vehicle to be same with a 2.0L 1450kg vehicle.

also your vehicle must not be in top condition because I think you have very little knowledge about cars.

take your kia for a scan and solve issues with code generated.

check your tyre size and pressure, ensure your exhaust isn't leaking etc
