General Motors has announced its self-driving car,Cruise AV,a modified electric Chevrolet Bolt on Friday, January 12, following a petition submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to deploy a car that doesn’t comply with current safety standards.

They are seeking U.S. government approval for a fully autonomous car,one without a steering wheel, brake pedal or accelerator pedal to enter the automaker's first commercial ride-sharing fleet in 2019.

If the Department of Transportation grants GM's latest Safety Petition,the Cruise AV will be the the first ever production-ready vehicle built from the start to operate safely on its own, with no driver, steering wheel, pedals or manual controls.

For passengers who cannot open or close doors, the Cruise AV has even been designed to perform that task. It will have other accommodations for hearing and visually impaired customers.

So why would GM want self-driving cars without a steering wheel and pedals?This is mainly because the equipment frees up space and weight in vehicles that will be the heart of an autonomous vehicle ride-hailing program.

Since there will not be a driver in the cars, GM is taking the next logical step of removing the steering wheel and pedals, freeing up another seat for a passenger.

And in case there is an emergency or the car is not moving to the side of the road,each of the new steering-wheel free Chevy Bolts feature an emergency stop button passengers can press if they need to stop the car.

GM's Cruise AV is equipped with the automaker's fourth-generation self-driving software and hardware, including 21 radars, 16 cameras and five lidars sensing devices that use laser light to help autonomous cars "see" nearby objects and obstacles.

The Cruise AV will be able to operate in hands-free mode only in premapped urban areas.

Authorities in northern China have demolished another church, sparking fears that the officially atheist Communist Party may be enforcing a campaign against Christianity.

The Golden Lampstand, a well-known evangelical megachurch in the city of Linfen, Shanxi province, was dramatically demolished with explosives on Tuesday.

According to witnesses, a large team of People’s Armed Police and local officials detonated dynamite inside the building before using cranes and bulldozers to reduce it to rubble, reported The Guardian.

China Aid, a Texas-based Christian human rights organization, confirmed the demolition in a statement online.

“China’s military police has been under the direct control of the central government since the head of the public security bureau, which previously commanded it, was arrested last year. This indicates that the order to destroy the church came from China’s top officials instead of the less-powerful local authorities,” the statement read.

Golden Lampstand Church has had a long history of tension with the communist government dating back to when it was built in 2009.

Congregation members were beaten by 400 officials during an incident in September 2009, which resulted in church leaders receiving lengthy prison sentences on nonsense charges such as assembling a crowd to disrupt traffic and illegally occupying agricultural land, according to the statement.

“I think this might be a new pattern against any independent house churches with an existing building or intention to build one,” Bob Fu, founder of China Aid told The Guardian.

“It also could be a prelude to enforcing the new regulation on religious affairs that will take effect in February,” he added.

This is the second time in the past month that a church has been demolished in the area. Last December, the only Catholic Church in Zhifang, a village near Shaanxi, was destroyed for no apparent reason, 20 years after it opened, according to Asia News.

At the time, Catholics in the area took to social media to post pictures of the demolition alongside papers proving the church’s permanent permits to occupy the land.

Although freedom of religion is an established right in China, local authorities use rigid laws and legal loopholes to attack smaller congregations.

Under rigid laws in China, any religious groups must be registered with local authorities. The Golden Lampstand was an unregistered independent church opened by an evangelist couple who served a congregation of over 50,000 people.

The design for EMotion is striking and unique with two sets of butterfly doors which open in opposite directions offer greater access into the cabin.It is also packed with connected tech and LiDAR sensors for driverless systems. There will be a large touchscreen tablet in the centre console and a smaller screen above it.

This centre console runs from the front of the car through to the rear and contains cubby holes and cupholders. Aso available is a 27-inch curved screen for rear entertainment and electrochromatic glass roof that can go from transparent to full tint at a push of a button.

It'll start from $129,900 (£95,000) but you'll have to wait until 2019 before you get behind the wheel.

An Indian airline has fired a pilot couple who violently clashed and briefly left the cockpit unattended during a flight from London to Mumbai.

Jet Airways took the step after investigating allegations a male pilot slapped his female co-pilot during a heated argument while the plane was mid-air, carrying 324 passengers.

The fight reportedly led to the female pilot leaving the cockpit in tears before she was persuaded to go back in by cabin crew.At one point the male pilot also left the cockpit, leaving the controls briefly unattended, according to local media reports.

'Consequent to the review of the events... Jet Airways has terminated services of both the cockpit crew with immediate effect,' Jet said in a statement.

The two pilots were grounded last week over the altercation, which Jet had described as a 'misunderstanding' that was 'quickly resolved amicably'.

The flight departed London around 1000 GMT on Monday and arrived in India's financial capital on schedule around nine hours later at midnight local time.

During the incident, the female co-pilot was persuaded to go back into the cockpit to resume her duties, but again left the flight deck in a distressed state soon afterwards. 

Frightened cabin crew pleaded with her to go back, and the nine-hour flight - complete with 324 passengers and 14 crew - eventually reached its destination without further incident.  

The confrontation reportedly took place soon after the plane took off.
The captain slapped the co-pilot and she left the cockpit in tears. She stood in the galley sobbing,' the paper quoted a witness as saying. 
"The cabin crew tried to comfort her and send her back to the cockpit". 

Meanwhile, the captain kept buzzing (calling from the telecom in the cockpit) to the crew, asking them to send the second pilot back.' 

But the paper said that soon afterwards  they again had a fight and the co-pilot for the second time left her seat at the controls.    

It said the incident has been reported to Director General of Civil Aviation and the concerned crew will not work until the results of an investigation are known.

Tesla has already received a healthy stream of pre-orders for its electric semi-truck, but Thor ,a new California company will offer an alternative. Thor Trucks has revealed its first all-electric semi and it boasts promising specs in an attempt to rival the Tesla Semi.

Thor Trucks believes it can stand out by converting fossil fuel-burning trucks into battery-electric ones with its unique powertrain technology and in-house battery production.

Most of the parts are procured from established suppliers, a strategy the company says will help it ramp up production, but also give their clients more confidence. The prototype also uses heavy-duty Dana axles and a TM4 motor while the battery packs are built in-house using LG Chem cells.

Thors electric truck,the ET-One,will arrive with a 300-mile range(Tesla Semi's claimed figure of 500 miles),capable of hauling 80,000 lb load and a top speed of 70 mph. Thor also said the ET-One will cost $150,000, which pegs it squarely as a Tesla competitor. Tesla trucks will likely cost between $150,000 and $180,000.

The ET-One,a Class 8 tractor will up to 30 percent more power than diesel and range options up to 300 miles for short-haul and regional routes. Like Tesla, Thor promises its electric powertrain can out muscle diesel engines while reducing maintenance needs, per-mile cost and overall cost of ownership.

Thor won't have just Tesla to deal with. Two other big names have shown off their own all-electric semi-trucks, too. Daimler revealed the E-Fuso Vision One with a 217-mile range and Cummins beat Tesla to the electric-semi punch when it debuted the Urban Hauler Tractor with a 100-mile range. Unlike Thor, Tesla, or Daimler, Cummins said its electric powertrain can be paired to a diesel engine to act as a range extender for about 300 miles of total range.

This is the shocking moment an Illinois driver inside a bank drive-thru sped into nearby traffic and mounted another car.

The alarming incident was captured on witness Robb Brilbeck's dash cam as he was waiting patiently behind the vehicle in Rockford on December 23.

The driver in front of him can be seen making a transaction at the drive-thru, and seconds later, speeding off.

The car was moving rapidly while the driver's door remained open and the person soon after crashed into an embankment.

Even worse, the SUV slammed into another car on the road, but luckily flew over the smaller vehicle, rather the crashing.

It's unclear what may have caused the incident or what the driver in the SUV was doing inside the car at the time.

Chinese automaker NIO (formerly NextEV) officially launched its first true production car, an all-electric dual-motor SUV called the ES8.
The NIO ES8 comes standard with an adaptive air suspension and an all-aluminum body. The model also boasts a double-A-arm front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, and Brembo brake calipers up front.

Not to be outdone in the tech game, the ES8 features a host of sensors for assisted driving. These sensors include four exterior cameras, a front-facing trifocal camera, five millimeter-wave radars, a driver monitor camera, and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

It’s the first vehicle in the world to come with Mobileye’s latest EyeQ4 chip technology as well as NOMI, an artificial intelligence system. NIO says its driver assistance system supports over-the-air updates so its vehicles can gain new features as they become available.

The ES8,a seven-seat crossover boasts a 70-kilowatt-hour battery pack powers two motors for an output of 644 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque,with a range of 355 kilometers(220 miles).It can hit zero to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds,compared to Tesla's Model X P100D 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

One of the many advantages of the ES8 over tesla's Model X is that it can be charged via a service vehicle that travels to you.
Or You can switch out the batteries at a power-swap station in just three minutes.
You can also rent batteries with Nio's rental service for 1,200 yuan (£135) a month.

The New Nio ES8 is on sale for £50,000, compare to £94,700 you need for a Tesla Model X,and that’s before subsidies and incentives that can bring down the cost of the ES8 by at least another $6,600. While Tesla has sold its cars in China for a few years, they aren’t eligible for these incentives and subsidies because they’re imported.

Tesla is reported to have reached an agreement to build a factory in China, while other automakers have formed partnerships with existing Chinese manufacturers in order to tap into the large market.

This is the horrifying moment a worker turned into a human fireball after rushing back to a factory in east China to get his phone.

Onlookers had to blast fire extinguisher towards the burning man and called for ambulance service immediately.
It's reported that he is still staying in intensive care unit after treatment.

Footage emerged on Pear Video showing that a factory in Ningbo of Zhejiang Province burst into flames in the afternoon of December 11.

The premises were confirmed to be the China Hookah Manufacturing Company. The cause of fire remains unknown.

He can be seen walking around with torn clothing after colleagues putting out the fire on him.

Jiulonghuzhen, the local town official released a notice on Weibo, a Twitter-like social media platform, confirming that the fire was put out after two hours.

The injured worker was sent to hospital for treatment. He is now recovering in stable condition. 

China Hookah Manufacturing Company responded to Pear that the worker was one of the first to evacuate, but he returned to retrieve his mobile phone.
