It is with great sadness I write to you about the frequent robbery/kidnap along Ahoada/Elele/emouha axis of East-West road. It has almost become a norm and security operatives have turned a blind eye to these occurrences.

There are over 10 check points beginning from Ahoada to emouha it is actually a shame and failure on the path of our security to have all these check pionts and yet these criminals operate successfully. We have the SARs and other police squads on those check points. The SARs men are known to intimadate drivers and harrass passengers with expensive phones and laptops. The police men in other checking points are known to collect 100 from drivers and any drivers who refuses to pay that is when they remember to check for car particulars and search the vehicle all in the bid to delay the driver. Their presence have no effect security wise at all. There have been numerous cases of robbery and kidnaping on that road. There have been whipers that they even work hand in hand with these criminals by leaving their duty post thereby allowing the criminals to operate or not trying to come to the rescues even when they can hear the sound of gun shots which is usually few meters away from their checking points.

Numerous drivers have lost their lives on that road likewise passengers who either end up being killed, raped or dragged (Kidnap) into the bush from which they are taken to their den where ransom are demanded. The case of the Agofure Motors driver who was killed and his passengers kidnapped leaving the lady who was cripple behind knowing fully well that she cant join the marathon to their den. I once heard one the drivers of Agofure Motors saying that they have lost up 15 drivers on that road likewise drivers of other transport companies, private car owners.

I had an encouter with these hardened criminals on the 1st of April 2019, on a monday morning at about 7:30 am, at first it seems like April fool but I was in the middle of a cross fire, gun shots of different sounds, guys who ought to be doing legitimate jobs holding and shooting guns of different caliber. From my Vehicle we could see a helpless driver who was shot right in our very own eyes strongling to survive on the ground. Our driver who was once a victim sometime ago (on his face he has scares, one side of nose blown off, he said eleven bullets were removed from his face and his passengers were taken away that night) miraclouly maneuvered the vehicle out of the horrific scene, even when two of the hoodlums continuously aimed at our Vehicle. The driver was able to drive to nearest checking point signaling all on coming vehicle of the dangers ahead. There were about 6 police men on duty and we told them about the ongoing robbery of which they could hear loudly sounds of gunshots but they didn't move an inch, they waited till we stopped hearing gunshots before they sluggishly drove towards the scene but by that time they were already gone into the bush, I heard there is a river deep inside the bush and they come with boats.

From all observations I think it is the Army that can fully engage these guys in combat. They are not faceless, they are from those communities within, a proper combing of these communities to fish out these criminals need to be done. The elders from these communities have failed to caution their sons. Those checking points should be occupied by the army and new checking should be set up at intervals where these guys still operate. The SARs and Police on that road should be removed from those checking points, they are of no use security wise, they are only there to extort money from drivers and Passengers.

This is a humble plea to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to take the necessary actions to eradicate these criminal, we know you are busy with the election but our lives matters too. I am calling on the Nigerian Army, we dont care how this operation is going to be called wether python, cobra, Viper dance all we want is safe travels along that road. And not leaving out the federal Government we need urgent intervention.

A single word of warning from Wike would stop all these nonsense. The people perpetrating all these are militants (or do we call them ex militants?) who are well known by the leaders in the state.

I know this can be stopped by just the governor because When Amaechi was governor, he grounded the activities of militants and cultists in the entire state for 8 years; he planted the top militants and cultists in the state in holes and swore to kill them if they crawled out. I remember even kingpins like Ateke Tom (who by the way is currently a celebrated king in Rivers) lamenting from his hole back then that Amaechi wanted to kill him.

But the moment Wike became governor, the first thing he did was to bring back those top militants from relegation and empower them to be his personal security and political thugs to the admiration of many idiots who think they are 'doing' Buhari and Amaechi. Now the militants are on rampage and everybody is wondering what's wrong. The other day it was Don Wani's rampage which went out of hand until he was killed.

The solution to all these is simple, irrespective of their so called superior fire power, the perpetrators of these acts can be stopped with INTELLIGENCE because every single one of the perpetrators are very well known by those in government.

The moment Wike became governor, he brought out the relegated militants and empowered them to be his personal security and political thugs to the excitement of a multitude of idiots who think they are 'doing' Buhari and Amaechi. Buhari did not knock down Nigeria's GDP growth rate; Nigeria's overdependence on a single volatile product is what knocked down our GDP growth rate. Unfortunately, millions of Nigerians, including the most educated and enlightened are still ignorant of this fact; we only understand economics from the uninformed viewpoint of apc vs pdp politics.

Nigeria's GDP growth rate since 1999 has been directly proportional to oil price; oil price goes up, our GDP growth rate rises and vice versa. All the people saying Buhari is the reason our growth rate is 1.9 are obviously ignorant of the fact that from mid-2014 when oil prices began dropping, the so called 6% growth rate progressively started dropping too and was already at 2% by the before GEJ and PDP bailed out.

Nigeria probably needs close to triple of what he is investing in foreign investment yearly to make really impactful change.

What I like about this project is that for the first time, he is investing in a sector the country has comparative advantage in .

If Dangote's refinery is ramped up to full capacity, together with the one or two modular refineries springing up currently, and the NNPC refineries working at just 5-10% capacity, Nigeria can comfortably kiss petroleum products import goodbye. Petroleum product importation currentlg accounts for up to 60% of Nigeria's total forex demand. You can never overemphasize the effect on the exchange rate and the economy at large should Nigeria stop importing petrol.

I have nothing against Dangote. He's currently the smartest and luckiest businessman in Nigeria today. And you're right, when he's done with his current set of ambitious mega projects (refinery, fertiliser and petrochemical plants and subsea gas pipeline), not only would he hit the Forbes top 10, he would also inject the much elusive life back into Nigeria's economy.

Dangote and the rest are ok for our future refinery needs...we don't want capital flight issue...MTN Nigeria bought her licence for 256million nd invested over 5billion since then..bought they shiped out over 100billion since inception....

Just know it that any economomy that cannot hold on to money it makes will never progress...leakages of financial capital shouldn't b encouraged...

Aliko is a shrewd businessman who thrives in aggresively maintaining his monopoly; if you doubt, go and ask people like BUA and IBETO. With all the noise and promises Kachikwu made about restoring the NNPC refineries by 2019, I wouldn't be surprised if Dangote has a hand in the frustration of Kachikwu. At this time (its already even late), Nigeria desperately needs anything that can stand as competition to Dangote. If Dangote becomes the sole producer of petroleum products post-2019, Nigerians would be lucky if the buy petrol for anything less than N220.

The only good thing about most of the nonsense comments I've read on this thread is the inconsequentiality of the opinions of the people who are opposed to this massive FDI. Those people saying the refinery isn't welcome have no say, and the refinery (if it comes to fruition), would probably not even be built in their domains.

I imagined the same thing whrn I saw that picture... A lot of Nigerians seem not to understand the concept of adrenaline pumping just after an incident. The guy in that car looks like one in a very critical condition and whilst he may even stand and walk unaided, he may go into serious pain induced shock later and may not survive it if he doesnt receive urgent medical attention. I'm Yoruba and I quite agree some abuse goes on. It is only with mechanics I've noticed it(beating with anything that can stand for cane) though so can not speak authoritatively about other professions such as tailoring as I have never noticed abuse there

I dont really think these things have anything to do with tribe; I may be wrong though. But then again, asking an erring child to kneel down, I still struggle to see how that's 'abuse'; kneeling down isnt exactly the same as "beating with anything that can stand for cane"

I've stayed in the east and the North , I've not seen where apprentices are treated , the way I've seen them been treated in the south west , Abeokuta and Lagos to be precise ....they basically use those kids , even teenagers of almost 19. as slaves that's the reason many abscond in the course of learning the skill...
Nobody takes care of apprentices , like the East .... after your learning , they even settle you with your own shop ....in the West here you'll still be paying some stupid freedom fee, to the "oga ", while looking for money to start your own shop....
Now if it's normal to you it's not to me , and if you indulge in the act of physically abusing kids all in the name of learning a skill, or know anyone who does , pls tell them to desist , it's all shades of wrong !!

Can you guys believe that these nuisances give only 3 hrs power daily yet their estimated bill is 6,000 naira monthly.

Although I personally dont subscribe to sending minors (<20yrs old) unaccompanied abroad, however, a fact is that minors also get pregnant right under their parent's roof.

As much as I like the Good work of charity apostle chinyere is doing, I don't like how and why he publisizes it!!

I used to be of the same opinion that it was hypocritical to publicise your good works and alms giving; even Matt 6 warns severely against it, but now I see it differenty. Sometimes it's very important that he publicises his works. The primary reason is to encourage and challenge others to do same.

By publicising his works, you will be amazed at the number of other pastors, religious leaders and ordinary people like me and you who have been challenged andhave taken a cue from him to do similar things.

The bolded part of your statement is very typical of what a true follower of Christ should not do; being prideful. "I am better than them so I can't descend so low so as to engage them on anything."

This sort of attitude was well documented in the bible with Christ constantly rebuking the Pharisees for it.
