Without any notice, without any prior hint, the official Customs exchange rate was increased yesterday. The rate which used to be N306 per dollar has now been increased to N326 per dollar. Consequently, this has led to an increase in the cost of clearing cars and other imported items at the Nigerian ports.

The new rate was announced on Monday morning and it was implemented immediately throwing lots of vehicle owners and clearing agents into a state of confusion.

One of the clearing agents Autojosh spoke to confirmed that he had been asked to pay a surface duty amount of N2,350,000 for a Mercedes Benz SUV. However, he got a shocker after he tried to input the details into the Customs server in order to proceed with the clearing process. "This N2,500,000 I'm seeing on this computer must be an error".. He said to himself.

Another agent said he had calculated the total clearing cost of his customer's 2005 Toyota Camry using the usual surface duty of N201,000. Now, he has to go back to his customer to explain that the surface duty has been increased to N214,000 (note that these quoted surface duties is different from total clearing costs. Surface duty does not include taxes, shipping/terminal charges and other ancillary costs).

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents at Tin Can Island Port, Mr Emmanuel Onyeme, all transactions and cargoes that were cleared at the port on Monday were already paying N326 per dollar.

The introduction of this policy is really saddening and it's even more saddening that it was implemented with immediate effect after importers had shipped their items and clearing agents had already accepted jobs using calculations based on the old rate of N306 per dollar.

Why can't we say same of APC. Every tribe and ethnicity were represented in APC right from the beginning as well. The Okorocha controlled faction of APGA broke off and joined ACN and CPC to form APC. From the beginning, APC controlled one Igbo state, same as the supposedly Igbo party, APGA who controlled just Anambra.
So as with your Yoruba self, you above statement is pure lies. Rochas, Ogbonnaya Onu, Ngige were in APC from the very beginning.
If you claim Igbos locked themselves off from APC because Igbo populace preferred PDP to APC in the majority, then by same token, one can claim Yoruba populace locked themselves off from PDP by siding with AD in 1999, yet PDP in the principle of national integration chose SW for presidency. What are you talking about? You mean IMO state that voted for APC sitting governor in Rochas in 2015 have not tried? Rochas that fought to win votes for APC in Imo, Orji Kalu and Nkeiru Onyejeocha that delivered massive votes for APC in 2019 state, senatorial and presidential elections in Abia North folded their hands?

Take a second look at the places this was done by GEJ, most of the states did not have FEDERAL universities. Let be objective about this, what may be acceptable in one instance may not be for another. Imo state already has lots of institution begging for attention which he Okorocha did nothing about. Check out Lagos state with all it Revenue capacity, what number of state universities and institutions does it have? Secondly, nobody hates Okorocha but his antics. He was loved and overwhelmingly voted into power in his first term but loosed focus when he started playing party politics in his 2nd term instead of focusing on developing Imo state.

Mace theft committee indicts Omo-Agege

THE National Assembly ad hoc joint committee probing the theft of
the Senate mace has concluded its sitting and may likely lay its
report in both chambers today.
The Nation learnt that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was indicted by the
report, with the committee headed by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah and
Betty Apiafi rooting for a suspension and possible prosecution.
A source close to the committee revealed that the panel may be
basing its recommendation on relevant potions of the Legislative
Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017.
“Contrary to a recent court pronouncement that the National
Assembly has no power to suspend its members, the committee was
convinced that Omo-Agege had breached sections of the Legislative
Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017,” the source said.”
Section 14(2) of the Act states : “Where a member commits a
contempt of the Legislative House, the Legislative House may by
resolution reprimand such person or suspend him from service of
the Legislative House, without pay, for such a period as may be
determined by the House, but not to the end of a legislative session”.
Section 15 states : “A suspended member of the Legislative House
under Section 14(2) of this Act, shall not enter or remain within the
chamber or its precincts while the suspension remains in force.”
The source said: “After an extensive investigation and questioning of
different security agencies and staff of the National Assembly, the
committee allegedly found a glaring connection between the
senator’s appearance on the said date and the disappearance of the
Senate mace and therefore may be asking for a 180 days suspension
for him.”
Besides, it was learnt that the committee may go further to ask for
the prosecution of the lawmaker for Treasonable Felony.
On April 18, 2018, some thugs gained entry into the Senate Chamber
while it was in session and carted the mace away.
The mace was found some days later around the Abuja city gate.
An ad hoc committee was then set up to investigate the
circumstances surrounding the mace theft and come up with
recommendations to forestall a future reoccurrence.
