Politics › Re: FG Proposes N70m For Training Livestock Rearers, Cattlemen by obailala(m): 3:47pm On Feb 04, 2017 |
naptu2: Many countries around the world have national parks and game reserves for the conservation of animals and plants. Examples in Nigeria include the Yankari Game Reserve, the Obudu Cattle Ranch, the National Arboretum in Abuja, etc.
The problem is that many poachers would like to kill the animals in the reserves. For example, poachers would like to kill the elephants and sell their tusks to the Chinese. Loggers would also like to cut down the trees in the parks and reserves.
Therefore, the Nigerian National Parks Service (NPS) employs armed park rangers to guard the national parks. It is these park rangers that the conservator-general of the federation is referring to. He says that they requested that the Nigerian Army should train them, but the cost was too high, so they've found other ways to train them.
Now read the (badly written) article again.
http://nigeriaparkservice.org/ I swear, I didn't understand a single thing the report was talking about until I read this your explanation. Kudos for breaking it down! |
Politics › Re: How Did The Dollar Manage To Stay At N170 For 4 Years Under Goodluck Jonathan? by obailala(m): 12:22pm On Feb 04, 2017 |
ITbomb: There was confidence in the market so investors pumped in dollars into the economy, that helped naira to be stable but when Buhari came in without any definite economic policy and took 6 months to set up executive council, uncertainty crept in and the investors withdraw their dollars from the economy. That led to the free fall of the naira The amount pumped in by investors is a drop of water compared to the ocean coming in from oil export. Oil price is purely the reason behind the drop in value of the naira because Nigeria depends on oil sales for over 90% of its forex. Of course, jonathanians would rather die than accept this simple fact. With oil prices averaging $100 for Jonathan's tenure, there was high inflow of forex and the CBN then kept spending billions of dollars monthly to maintain the value of the naira at N160; thats is exactly what kept the value steady. But as soon as oil price dropped even under Jonathan's nose with his 'world class' crack economic team, naira dipped from 160 to 230 in the blackmarket, and this was despite the fact that the CBN then blasted $10billion within 6 months (Nov 14 - May 15) to struggle and keep the naira steady. And yeah, talking about investors running away, nobody, not even the early morning akara seller takes their wares to a poor neighbourhood. Nigerias exinomy is a function of oil price, as soon as oul prices began to crash, and it was clear the econony was going to go down, investors started packing their bags.JP Morgan gave their first warning to delist Nigeria as early as February 2015, that was before anyone even dreamt that buhari was going to win elections. But then again, emotional Jonathanians would rather die than accept these facts. |

dotuna3: Cool. But have lost my respect for u sir. Minster of darkness. This Buhari has ended up messing up all wat u have worked for over the year. U ought not to have taken the offer. Now u have completely lost respect and cheers most people gave u.
#istandwith 2baba# The very same people who hate buhari and apc from the bottom of their hearts are the very ones who still hate Fashola. Fashola did well to take the offer and he is doing a good job within the limits of the resources available to him. For power, you cannot inherit a crumbling, dead and rotten power infrastructure and expect light to immediately shine in your face especially when even your fellow Nigerians are going about sabotaging the little power infrastructure left. Stopping the saboteurs isnt within Fashola's office. Most of the power projects that were started even since the OBJ days were abandoned due to one petty litigation or the other. These were the things Fashola started with and luckily, most of those legal disputes have now been settled and construction of those long abandoned power stations have resumed. If not for any, I know of Prof Nnaji's Geometrix plant that has since been completed but couldnt run because of some silly litigations. Thank God those litigations have now been resolved and Geometrix would begin operation in the 2nd quarter and a city like Aba would kiss darkness goodbye. The problem in the power sector isnt something that can be fixed in a day, moreso when all our generating plants have been privatised mostly fraudulently to individuals/cronies who have no business being in the power business. Power plants are owned by private individuals but everyday the govt still has to intervene by budgeting money to pay their debts. And should Fashola/FG make any attempt now to reverse the privatisation, that would land in another 10 year long dispute. |

“The commission would monitor the NCS activities and replace the board of the NCS. The appointment of an outsider to head the NCS has derailed the country’s revenue generation,” he said. Misplaced priority! At the last check, Customs revenue has increased relatively despite the reduction in imports. The present comptroller appears to have blocked a lot of sharp practices and leakage of revenue in the Customs service. I'm curious to know where the senator saying this has gotten his info from. This clearly looks like the handwork of disgruntled senior Customs officers who have been prevented from siphoning billions as was always the practice in the past. They will fight against anyone blocking them from their usual feast, and as usual, a lot of Nigerians will simply just support anything which they remotely perceive is against buhari's decision. |

This discovery had been made some years back by this Prof, he has been trying to get the attention of the appropriate body like forever. Any persons in the ministry of health claiming not to be aware of the claim is a blatant liar. It's just that we live in a country where things don't work and we don't love to see people grow if its not directly involved with us. Did the prof say what he disvovered is A CURE?... Or is it just the media that's interpreting it as a cure ? |
Health › Re: Health Minister Denies Knowledge Of HIV Cure By Professor by obailala(m): 10:39am On Feb 03, 2017 |
plendil: I did a google on the prof's name and come up with a number of publications. Quite a prolific guy, I must confess.
However, his claims to have found a CURE for HIV is the problem I have. There is no indication whatsoever from his write up that his drug was able to TOTALLY WIPE OUT HIV FROM AN INFECTED PERSON, which is what a cure should do.
What his drug alleges to do is to reduce the viral load in body - possibly to undetectable levels. NEWSFLASH: All other ARVs currently in circulation do exactly the same thing!! DUH!
BUT THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERED CURES!!!
Is there promise in this his new discovery? Quite possibly. He actually admitted the agent has been used as a drug delivery for other medicines for quite sometime but he is perhaps the first person to use it for HIV.
But his method of disemination is quite unbecoming of someone with his experience Did the prof say it by himself that what he produced is A CURE?... Or is it just the media that's wrongly interpreting the prof's claim?... That is the part of the story I dont understand. From the report, my understand of what the minister has said is that he is aware of a novel discovery by the prof in producing ARV's, but he is not aware of it being a CURE as circulated by certain parts of the media. |

HtwoOw: While it's beautiful to learn that work is ongoing at Lagos Ibadan express way among several other places
I have to dispute your claim that no works is ongoing in the SE region, I have seen threads from several SS SE states, threads about bridges and roads being constructed on this same NL
But more importantly idgaf if nothing is done there, they are the ones protesting, attacking, went as far as saying they chased Buhari away, calling him a coward after he canceled the trip and sent Osibanjo
If they deserve anything, they'll get it by being a part of Nigeria not agitating for another country while wanting a country to build another country's road, not worshipping looters, not blowing up pipes, not through propaganda and not attacking the presidency
You may not agree with me, but that's my point and so I rest my case The last time I checked, the SE is still a part of Nigeria as we speak. Some of the most important roads which need urgent attention are the PH-Enugu, Onitsha-Enugu, PH-Owerri, Aba-Ikot-Ekpene; these are the ones I know of personally and I haven't heard of anything work being done on these roads. While the needless attacks on the person of Buhari is certainly not helping matters, that isn't enough reason why nothing should be done on these roads. |

I think its high time the entire south east leaders from governors to senators to reps to ministers and all politicians put their heads together and lobby hard for roads in the south east to be given attention.
Of course a lot of people see this as another 'Buhari hates us' and 5% matter. But that's purely myopic because even Jonathan who was the biggest darling of the south east did not do a single thing about these SE roads; it's not enough to just appoint many people from the region who just go to Abuja to fill their personal pockets.
Leaders from different zones/regions go to Abuja to lobby, to scheme, to manipulate and to even scam the country for the benefit of their people, I really don't know what SE leaders in Abuja have been doing for the zone since 1999. Weirdly, the youths now appear to have 'wisely' diagnosed the problem to be 'other big tribes.' |
