This is a local election, even upon restructuring of the country, Edo will still be edo. Politicians are politicians and will always be useless politicians. The Avengers too, i don't believe they are any different from the MEND boys that would collect money and be quiet, I wonder why we keep letting these people deceive us.

Bombing of pipelines coupled with low oil prices is the reason behind the present widespread sufferings in the land. People are dying of hunger but something you need to know is that the politicians would be the last ones to feel the recession. Nigerian politicians are naturally conscienceless and insensitive, so I wonder why anyone would support the starvation in the land with the hope that our heartless politicians would be moved.

This could be due to something as simple as carbon monixide from generator fumes. Why don't you take the date of that your chart back a bit?.... You would clearly see that the rate of reduction of the foreign reserves clearly slowed down under Buhari even though we have suffered much lower price of oil and much lower production volumes. As at May 29th 2015, oil still sold for over $65/bbl and Nigeria's production was over 2 million barrels per day; but kindly take a look at what happened to Nigeria's reserves below and I'm sure you will be quiet.

The responsibility of steering Nigeria out of the current economic quagmire no doubts rests on Buhari's head, but it is silly for those who immensely contributed to the mess to open their mouths to spew trash against buhari; recession doesn't start in a day, it builds up, and it is shallow for anyone to attribute the current 'depression' to Buhari alone when it was clear that the centre wasn't holding anymore and the economy was already on an accelerated nosedive as at the time the baton was handed over to him.

In my sincere opinion, the only real things Buhari has done wrong border on his poor handling of social issues; IPOb, NDA, herdsmen, nepotism etc.

My only concern was the cloak of hypocrisy that surrounds the whole thing when the governors were shielded and none seems to be calling them out, to the extent that those governors that were part of the rot are today shouting gej was the cause and people like you looking the other way..

The point is that both OBJ and GEJ were pressured by governors' forum to PDP share the money. And even though GEJ capitulated, the real question is why the FG's bulky chunk of the money wasn't saved if truly there was any intention to save.

...and yeah, to answer your question in all sincerity, I was against the governors at the time because I knew the money was going to get into voicemail as soon as it was shared; and that's exactly what happened with several governor's then buying private jets (Amaechi, Akpabio, Niger state etc). You need to also remember that at the time in question, all the actors involved were mainly all still under the same umbrella, so the current 'left-right paradigm' tussle of PDP vs APC didn't even exist at the time. So yes, I was against the governors cos it was a case that bordered on Nigeria's progress.

The same way in which current APC governors who squandered their share are accusing GEJ, that's the same way in which current PDP governors who squandered their shares are also blaming buhar; the hypocrisy is obviously not one sided. I can assure you that if PDP guys (and their supporters) who ruined this nation can be honorable enough to just shut-up, the APC guys would also be quiet and face the business of governance without resorting to blame games.

Truth is that, it doesn't matter if you connect to the negative terminal or the car body, both will definitely work. There must have been another reason why it didnt work when you connected to the negative terminals, probably there was poor contact. Connecting to the car body instead of the -ve terminal is just a safety precaution because of sparks (and some other risks).

How can you claim to save money that hasn't entered your hands yet?... The money used to bailout states only came in around June/july last year from NLNG.

Money used to bail out states wasn't saved intentionally. The money wasn't in the hands of the FG as it was yet to be paid. States are owing several months of salaries because their administrators were not insightful/financially prudent enough to prepare for the rainy day. But for some states to be imprudent, is that a justification for the FG to also be imprudent?

I have decided not to comment on Nairaland for a very long time due to the rank tribalism and ethnic rancour that have come to live here. However, I decided to log in when I saw your comment.

Your comment is spot-on and as an Igbo man I have always advocated this position. It will take someone playing an ostrich to say that Igbos are not getting a raw deal in Nigeria. However, part of this is self-inflicted (topic for another day) while the rest is borne out of the jostle for resources amongst the various ethnic groups especially the major ones.

I have never supported this whole IPOB thing and will never cause the premise is wrong. I have been a student of history and as pro-Igbo-as they come but I do not believe at this stage that an independent Igbo enclave is what we need. I wish we Igbo people will channel our energy and resources in demanding good leadership from our politicians and office holders. I wish IPOB was a movement demanding accountability from Eastern office holders. Imagine the transformation that this will engender in the East! Imagine if IPOB set up a think-thank group to analyse the performance of past and present Eastern office holders and to sensitize Easterners not to vote for moneybags or those who go to Abuja and canvass only for the interest of their pockets. Imagine if IPOB used its resources to show evidence of looting by past Eastern governors and office holders? Imagine if IPOB went through the East and make a documentary of infrastructural decay in the region due to lack of investments by the various past Eastern governors? (Please let us forget the FG for a moment). As we say in my place, "onye mee oboya mkpokolo, agbata obi ewelu ya kpolu afifia" meaning if you treat your basket like trash, your neighbour will use it as a dustbin! We Easterners are so blessed with a lot of things but for me our greatest blessing is in our world view. Sadly, we have abandoned this. We have to go back to the basics.

Imagine, IPOB drawing up a masterplan for various Eastern states and using the media to show Easterners that it is achievable within the means of their States and watch the people demand accountability from the leaders. These for me would have been a better and more viable objective from IPOB!

As the Igbos say "ana esi na unor malu mma pua na ilo" meaning you have to first be beautiful inside or at home before you go out. As a people, our house is in disarray like virtually any other ethnicity in Nigeria. Our leaders together with the rest of the Nigerian politicians are giving us all a raw deal. It is not just peculiar to the East. If, we a major ethnic group is moaning like this, spare a thought for minorities that do not number more than a million!!

Igbo people can only be in a position to ask to leave the country when we have shown that we can do it better than we are doing it in Nigeria. On the evidence of what we have today, I am afraid to go to any Biafra with anybody. It is going to be a dog eat dog place. I am better off in Nigeria today as it stands. Most Igbos share the same sentiment but they will not come out and say it. My maternal grandpa was in the Nigerian and Biafran armies and today, he does not want to hear you say anything Biafra because he knows that we Igbos have a lot to fix at home like any other ethnicity in Nigeria.

You have said it all, most Igbo intellectuals also share your views but for some reason, have maintained a strange but damaging silence. A nation built out of overflowing emotions would be a frightening reality. If only half of the energy being put by youths and adults into this Biafran thing could be channelled to demanding proper accountability and quality leadership at the home level, it would have been much more effective and beneficial. But then, be prepared for a major backlash for this your position..

I don't remember the court case ever ending, it was an out of court settlement.

FG takes care of national issues while states take care of state issues. There's a reason why the FG receives a bulk of those funds, and part of that reason is cos it's the FG's responsibility to take care of certain national issues bordering on the economy. Today the economy is in shambles and it is Buhari we all knows; no one mentions the governors of respective states. So claiming that state governors took their money away from the FG's central purse is quite an empty excuse for not saving when it should have.

Zuckerberg wicked sha... 200,000 shares and 1 million likes in 2 days?... Could have been possible in 2 weeks considering alarming number of IPOB sympathisers across the land, but I doubt most of these sympathisers have access to this story.

Several points to note in your story. Firstly, the battle to share ECA funds started as far back as 2004 when the account was first opened by OBJ/NOI. At the time, the governors pressuring the FG of OBJ were mainly under the same PDP's happy umbrella; so your accusation of the 'opposition' holds no water on this issue.

Secondly, from your bolded statement above, did you just assert that the FG swallowed its own share of the money because the states did the same?... Does this act in any way portray a government that had any iota of political will to save?

If you are a Christian, you should know the story of the prodigal son. Just imagine the father of the prodigal son saying, "since my bad son has taken his share of the family wealth and has proceeded to squander it on wine, women and wild living, I the father would also squander the bulk that is left with me." Does this in any way resemble sound judgement?

Meanwhile, states took away about 49% of the funds, which rightfully belongs to states and LGAs; may I also remind you that the reason the voices of the state governors were raised higher was because even whilst the FG was still resisting the call to release the funds, the FG was already illegally dipping its hands into the funds.. But that is by the way, the simple question i asked is, if the FG was serious about saving, why couldn't it save the over 51% lion share which it had?... Did governors also hypnotise the FG from saving that bulk of the money?...

And besides, we aren't just talking of ECA funds are we?... ECA is just a little drop of it?.. How come Nigeria's overall reserves rose continuously under other admins, but dropped under the admin which earned the most?... Saying the governors prevented the FG from saving, don't you think that is just a lazy excuse by those in authority?

Truth is, i don't care if Dangote buys everything in Nigeria, most things he has taken over seem to work and since Nigerian governments have been useless for decades, people like Dangote taking over the roles and responsibilities of government might just be the only way things may work in this country.
