989900:you and I know that sacking Emefiele is another war story on its own. It's really sad that we are back to the same spot we were before the 'acclaimed' floating of the currency with the official interbank and black-market rates being far far apart; I can't understand why they can't float the damn thing properly and close all room for round tripping. Me sef I don taya for this govt honestly.. |
Osmondinho:Haba! if that's the case, then your choice of words were either poor or you deliberately set out to twist information; nobody reads or comprehends things literally. For the sake of an argument you can claim you used the word 'completed', but a road which was over 95% complete shouldn't really be shoved aside as non-existence simply because it wasn't 100%. |
Osmondinho:You are not right about OBJ not fixing a single federal road in the SE; the Onitsha-Owerri road as an example was 98% complete by the time OBJ left. On the contrary, GEJ was far more worse in terms of road construction in the SE especially when one even considers the much higher revenue he had at his disposal. At the end of the day, I think both of them need to be flogged; special flogging needs to also be reserved for all the high ranking Igbo politicians who have occupied the senate presidency and other NASS positions and even the ministers (past and present) who have gone to Abuja to fill their pockets and remember their people only when it is time for elections or when they've been arrested by EFCC. |
ephi123:Businesses are regulated by governments. If a UK company wants to build a plant in Nigeria, it must get approval from the uk govt. Nigeria struck a deal with a bank in China to finance our rail projects, the last time I checked, the final approval for that was discussed between buhari and the chinese president, so my dear, private businesses too are regulated. If the Uk govt says NO to coal plants, a UK private company cant come to Nigeria to build a coal plant, neither can a UK bank give Nigeria a loan to build a coal plant. Once again, TSA money isnt disposable income that the government can just dip its hands into and spend. |
TheEastActivist:You were making no sense and just blabbing out of an ingrained hate sentiment for the govt. Renewable energy is 3 times more expensive than sources like coal, and even for the cheaper coal, Nigeria doesnt have the funds and needs to still borrow to finance it. Now these loans are being blocked because the lenders dont want us to harness coal energy. With the above situation, what exactly was your response?... you claimed the govet was useless bla bla bla.... and you think you were making any sense?... An now you myopically bring ethnicity into the simple discussion?... |
ephi123:Private investors rather than governments?... arent you aware the activities of those private investors are also regulated by their govts? Besides, the recovered moneys (e.g. TSA) cant just be spent like that, it isn't disposable money. Then the recovered loots are insignificant compared to what nigeria needs. |
TheEastActivist:You say Nigeria should invest in the power sector and not make excuses, Nigeria intends to harness coal energy but doesnt have the money and can't get funding (loans) cos some hypocritical countries who use coal for half of their power generation think it is unclean for Nigeria to do same. Such is the situation but you choose to take sides against your country because you hate the president and his ministers? Sorry but I think you are just a directionless wailer who is just out to criticise for the sake of it. |
Izonpikin:Bros make una try understand say oga Jona don go.... try and put that election behind you.... Oh yes, lack of forex is the prime reason behind the problem. 92% of Nigeria's forex income comes from oyel. Oil price drops by more than half, avengers place the icing on the cake by wiping out over 40% of Nigeria's oil export and all in all, forex inflow has dropped by over 60%. Confused haters would choose to say it is buhari policy flops that is responsible for the forex scarcity, but that is nonsense compared to the contributions of oil price and 'your boys.' Econs 101, when there is scarcity, the price goes up; today the price of a dollar is N475, and this inflaton is swallowing the profits of companies, the inflation is also making production far more costly and the difficulty in accessing the scarce forex is making business climate very difficult thereby forcing many businesses away from Nigeria (more forex flight). So yeah, if you say so, avengers totally have their hands written all over this and all Nigerians are suffering it. If you like continue to blame buhari and his certificate, every unbiased person knows the real problem. |
ephi123:A begger has no choice... whrn you run around begging people for money in form of free donations or even loans, then the people have a right to dictate to you what you do with the money they want to give to you. I'm sure you are aware Nigeria is frantically looking for where to get loans from? |
TheEastActivist:You need to direct you criticism rationally. First of all, I do not think it is the finance minister who decides on the kind of power plants to build. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with using coal to generate electricity. Forget all the bulls**t about the environment, coal still provides 40% of world energy till date and the biggest developed and industralised countries are the biggest users of coal. The US gets over 40% of its power from coal, china gets over 75% of its power from coal, I can't remember the statistic from Germany but if I'm right, the Germans are currently building a very massive new coal plant as we speak. As a nation, just like a child, we must first learn to crawl and then walk, before we start thinking of running. Renewables (wind, solar etc) are far far more expensive that the traditional ways. Nigeria is presently in darkness, we still use kerosene lanterns in our homes and have tens of millions of tiny generators which emit 10,000 times more dangerous pollitants than whatever a coal plant can emit. This is just common sense, we must first walk before we start thinking of how to run. Even the industralised and developed who have all the money are not yet leaving coal power even for the next 50 years, yet you want a crippled child to jump and run faster. |
nku5:Of course he paid a fraction of the required counterpart fund of the FG, that isnt news. You are however making it sound like he 'set aside' or 'provided' the full funds for the bridge; if that was the case, the bridge would have since been completed. |
Effects of the skyrocketing exchange rate... God help this country. |
The CBN/FG should look for a way to properly float the currency. With black market price at N475 and interbank at around N310, we are back to exactly the same point we were when dubious individuals received forex from CBN/banks, hoarded the forex (to increase the price by speculations) and then return to the black market to sell same. |
nku5:If you go back and read further news reports on the 2NB, it says only about N10bn was actually released in 2014 out of the 'disbursed' N18.3bn; about N4.4bn was the amount that had already been spent previously for consultancy and other stuff (this N4.4bn bit doesn't seem to be part of the N30bn which is FG's counterpart share). The part of your story I didnt get was where you said "funds had been set aside which is enough to build the bridge if this government is interested in applying them," you made it sound like the full funds required for building the entire bridge had been provided and kept in a special safe somewhere but that the new govt isn't interested in completing the project. Meanwhile about N15bn or N17bn (not sure of exact amount) was budgeted this year to offset part of the counterpart funding too. As for Enugu airport, yes the airport was upgraded and that is commendable, but remember that whatever was done in the enugu airport was also done in Kano, lagos and Abuja, so why exactly should this upgrade be a substitution for important things like the Onitsha-Enugu road repair? Meanwhile in the euphoria of the development, half of the money meant for the real structural upgrade (runway repairs and expansion etc) developed wings and flew away (or probably was never released). There's a reason why major airlines are still avoiding the airport, and its not because of a 'conspiracy' or 'gang-up' by 'enemy tribes' as many people allege and believe. The reason is cos the standards (infrastructure) haven't really been upgraded yet (except on paper). |
nku5:Sometimes i wonder where some people churn out these strange arguments from. Which money was set aside for Niger bridge?.... N10bn out of the required N130billion in 2014, is that what you mean by money set aside for Niger bridge?... Not even a dime was budgeted for the bridge in 2015 budget hence the project was abandoned in 2015 and contractors left the site (with ignorant and evil people spreading rumours that BUHARI has stopped the project). Enugu airport which was recertified was eventually used as a conduit pipe to steal billions. Of the tens of billions purportedly released for the project, the runway still has numerous potholes because the moneys were swallowed; airlines like Emirates have bluntly refused to bring their planes anywhere close to the Enugu runway because of this very runway. Meanwhile, hope yu are aware that whatever was done for the enugu airport, more was done for other main airports across the country (kano, abuja, lagos etc) so i still don't get how this enugu airport keeps being repeated as a favour GEJ did to Igbos. Would be nice if you can remember those 'few others' cos it would be interesting to know what they are. |
According to the 'usual suspects,' it must be Rochas' handwork... |
Considering that the delay in constituting a cabinet and the delay in getting the 2016 budget approved is blamed as one of the reasons behind the mess in the economy, I am yet to see any single person in this thread who can explain what exactly is wrong with the government planning early enough for 2017. |
PDP being paid back in their own coin.. Karma is a bi*** |
Useless politicians and childish politics.. |
sarrki:"Tree near tree na wetin make monkey dey smart" The above proverb relates to Obi and Obiano. No doubt, Obiano is doing fine, but the reason he's doing fine is cos Obi totally laid the foundation. Obi deserves all the commendation he gets, Obiano today is reaping the fruits of Obi's efforts. After the exit of Mbadinuju, Anambra has been blessed with good governors. |
TPAND:Apology accepted... Like you said, everyone has a right to their opinion on these things; I am a realist and not an idealist. I believe that no matter how careful and wonderful parents may be, children being children sometimes would still go beyond their assigned boundaries. I was once a kid and a teenager, and no matter how strict and wonderful my parents were, I know I did overstep my assigned boundaries sometimes because it was impossible for my parents or teachers to have their eyes on my 100% of the time. I can only thank God that I suffered no major misfortune through those years but even if such ever happened, I believe it would be totally out of place for anyone to blame my parents for that. The point i have simply tried to pass on to you is that it is totally wrong of you to judge the parents of these 2 boys who lost their lives because you do not even know the parent. and you don't know the full story. |
DesChyko:Even with several people calmly trying to make him see reason, he still sticks to his guns about being omniscient in the topic of good parenting; he also believes so much in his monopoly of wisdom in parenting. There's really no point engaging further with such a character, it's a hopeless effort. |
TPAND:First of all, I see no reason why you have lost decorum and resorted to all sorts of insults and abusive words; I thought irrational outbursts like this were an exclusive reserve of the Nairaland POLITICS' section. But Going through your comments again, it is obvious that this is all you have upstairs and this is all you are made of; such a shame. There's no point engaging further with an unstable, self-righteous bigot. I agree with you, you win!!! every parent that has suffered a tragedy is a bad parent that shouldn't have been allowed to be parents in the first place. All such parents should take lessons from TPAND. |
TPAND:Are you a parent?.... Whether yes or no, the only advice I have for you is to pray fervently to God to never let you experience anything close to such a tragedy. More often than not, things like this (children sneaking out of the house) are totally beyond our powers as mere humans and it has absolutely nothing to do with good/bad parenting. There is no way even the best parent in this world would tie a leash around the neck of a 14 year old to monitor every single move he makes outside the gates. You however brag to be a very responsible, possibly omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent parent whom such a thing can never happen to; so who am I to doubt you? From your very harsh and insensitive judgemental tone however, I actually believe you are just as naive as they come. Once again my advice for you is to pray that such tragedy never comes close to your quarters, cos the pain of judgemental strangers judging your parenting isn't something you would like to experience. |
TPAND:I'm neither of the two... But then, your comment is obviously not for normal people... Parents are normal people, and there's no way normal people can possibly keep their eyes on their kids for every single second. I pray a similar fate doesn't befall you, cos I wonder how you would feel if people who have no clue about who you are come online to run their mouths about what a careless parent you are. |
Izonpikin:My brother, the NASS is one monster that cannot be touched. The only way to cleanse the NASS is by mob action. |
TPAND:Are you sure you are okay? |
That place called NASS should be nuked. |
Mama P is obviously shining better than before; the beauty of retirement. |
easzypeaszy:The momentum in agriculture has not gone down... We are still not anywhere close to food sufficiency though.. |
TPAND:Jonathan's agric policies have largely been sustained and agric output has increased. So I think you are wrong here. |
Quite funny observing how the PDP miscreants are being paid back in their own coin... Anyway, both candidates weren't inspiring one bit, so congrats to the winner as the journey continues. |
