solmus:Nigerians even curse Buhari for instructing the CBN not to provide forex for toothpick importation. Importation business is the fastest way to wealth. Stop it and Nigeria would implode. |
With stories that his previous wives complained of domestic violence, his recurring verbal attacks on journalists and fellow politicians, and his public acknowledgement of having a 'short fuse', anyone would be inclined to believe domestic abuse may likely be the cause of the current crisis. But then again, one can never completely trust the words of scorned women. |
sukar886:Terry Waya has always been around for a long time. One of the flamboyant moneybags that usually featured in Ovation and other lifestyle magazines back then. His son only just made us remember him again. |
RuudVanNisteroy:Oh yes, dangote and dantata are the only ones with influence in the entire Nigeria, that must be why they were the only ones who could do business with military and civilian regimes, APC aand PDP, Christian and Muslim regimes, borth and southern regimes etc. You simply cannot acknowledge the man is a good businessman so you must find a way to rubbish his acumen and cann it mere favouritism. Dangote is obviously the only businessman in Nigeria. |
RuudVanNisteroy:Well, monopoly isnt good but its absolute witchcraft to hate on Dangote for being smart while others slept and partied away. Dangote simply takes quick advantage of govt policies while other businessmen sleep. But you now want to vilify him for that? I'm sorry that's witchcraft. Whenever you want to make this argument, always refer to his refinery; nothing stopped other big businessmen in the downstream pil sector from building refineries, but they chose to import fuel and steal subsidies instead. Now Dangote is about to rise from Zero to the Top and you want to vilify him for that with some flimsy wikileak report? Yes Dangote jad sole cement import license because he took advantage of the import substitution policy of govt. The policy stated that for you to retain your import license, you have to build production capacity in Nigerian. While others were busy revelling in their importation, only Dangote and a few others (Lafarge, flour mills etc) took advantage and it was only a matter of time before the policy took effect and other non-compliant importers lost their import license. Oh I forgot, we have to blame Dangote there too for being a smart man. |
RuudVanNisteroy:Oh yes I've read it before, and I just read it again. There's nothing new in there that we havent already mentioned in this thread so I wonder why you're bringing it up (or is it cos its from a foreign source?) The wikileaks report means absolutely nothing, it simply describes the profile of every businessman or capitalist both in Nigeria and the world over. Every businessman wants an advantage over his competition. Dangote simply wins by embarking on some landmark economic projects which earn him govt favours, and helps him outshine and swallow his competition. You need to quit hating on the man whose only crime is being smarter than others and being successful. When you want to accuse him of being a ruthless monopolist, I will always dangle his refinery project in your face. That refinery has the capacity to save Nigeria from sinking into an economic abyss; something successful govts could not do for 3 decades, and you want me to hate on a man for rescuing Nigeria simply because he will be a monopolist? The govt has been begging businessmen to come build refineries. What stopped other corrupt businessmen from from building refineries? Was a license given to only Dangote? Others chose to simply build tank farms, import fuel and resell whilst defrauding the country with fraudulent subsidies. Very soon Dangote will be almost the sole supplier of petroleum products all over tbe country and then we will wail that he's a monopoly? Same thing happened in the cement and sugar which we wail about today... Others dwelled on importing but Dangote was building manufacturing and processing capacity here in Nigeria and within a few years, govt withdrew the importation license of others only for us to come and start wailing over Dangote's monopoly. If everyone else wants to keep sleeping and owambe-ing while Dangote proactively takes over every sector, dont you think its witchcraft to start hating Dangote for simply being smart? I'm sorry but Dangote is a hero, whether you like it or not. |
RuudVanNisteroy:I'm sorry but that's how capitalism works all over the world, Dangote is definitely worthy of all admiration for excellently distinguishing himself from his colleagues. He isnt the only businessman in Nigeria that lobbies for favours from govt, every single businessman does the same thing, all over the world. With all the corruption in Nigeria from IBB to Abacha to OBJ to date, how come Dangote is the only businessman it always favours? How come he always leads irrespective of the govt in charge? You think it's a mere coincidence? Building his refinery for instance was taking away a massive responsibility and burden from govt. So even if the govt hates him, you cant help but support him (for everyone's good). I'm sorry but you have to give honour to whom it is due. Dangote's smartness and acumen can never be overemphasised. |
RuudVanNisteroy:He earned that monopoly, Dangote earned it and we need to stop hating on the man... Long before Dangote got his license to build a refinery, the govt was literally begging local and foreign investors to come take licenses and build refineries. Several people took those licenses but ended up building storage tank farms just to import fuel. Dangote took a bold step by delving into the uncharted territory of building a private refinery; he hasnt even completed it but here you are, already hating on him for being a monopoly? Was it Dangote that stopped others from building refineries? Wow! Humans are indeed amazing! Something similar happened for cement and sugar. There was a govt policy (I think it was called 'import substitution') which gave import licenses only to businesses that had shown capacity or intent to produce the imported goods locally in Nigeria... Whilst other businesses were busy importing, Dangote was busy developing his cement factories simultaneously. And now we want to blame Dangote for being serious and focused? |
rafindo:I'm guessing you replied a wrong post here? I'm not sure where I inferred that business is charity or where I made any complaint about Dangote's monopoly. I only stated things as they are. |
RuudVanNisteroy:Every businessman lobbies, bribes, schemes, fights, some even murder people to get those monopolistic priviledges which Dangote always gets. Why then exactly does it favour only Dangote regardless of the regime? From IBB to Abacha to Abdulsalam to OBJ to Yaradua to GEJ to Buhari? How come every single govt somehow favours Dangote like he's the only businessman out there in the field?... The answer to the above is simple, Dangote is the G.O.A.T! He simply does it better than otbers.... Take his refinery for instance, the government has been issuing licenses and literally begging investors to come build refineries. No one seemed to care, everyone preferred the safer investment of importing products and collecting subsidies. With Dangote taking that bull by the horn, he's taking away an age-long massive massive massive burden from govt, and irrespective of who's in power, or how much the regime hates Aliko, the govt has absolutely no choice than to help him. We need to give it up for the man abeg! |
COMPAQ:If you can import the products for N180, Dangote would simply adjust his prices to N178 and knock you out of business, or he'd bribe the govt to increase import duties to ensure the imported products can never fall cheaper than his. And by the way, these arent conspiracy theories; it's just an analysis of the potential outcomes based on past events. |
edoairways:When Dangote's refinery is completed, Nigerian govt will stop importation of petroleum products completely and the govt will completely deregulate the downstream sector (this has already even just happened). Being basically the sole supplier of such an indispensable product (other private refinery owners would supply less than 10% of Nigeria's demand), Dangote would unanimously fix the pump prices and it wouldn't be less than N250/litre. In less than 5 years, he would have recovered his entire investment and in the next 5 years again, he'd be competing with Gates and Bezos at the top spot, and the gross stupidity of Nigerian governments (past and present) would be exposed clearly for the world to see. |
eagleu:Lol.. i knew this flawed assertion will always come up again whenever Dangote's impending success hits the headlines. In the game of capitalism and politics, the smartest player always wins. In the Nigerian terrain, DANGOTE is the smartest of them all, the G.O.A.T, and that's why he always wins; you can take that to the bank. You say he succeeds because he's being favoured by the 'corrupt Fulani govt'. Permit me to correct your statement - Dangote isn't just favoured by the Fulani govt, he is favoured by every single government, both local and international, from north, east, west, south, Muslim, Christian, local banks, foreign banks, PDP, APC etc. Every single businessman wants the priviledges Dangote enjoys, but somehow, only Dangote always gets it, regardless of the govt in power... He succeeds because he's a smart and shrewd businessman who knows how to 'press the mumu button' of any government. Building his refinery for instance was a masterstroke; that takes away a massive massive burden from govt. No matter how the person in govt wants to hate him, the govt quite often finds itself in a situation where it has no choice but to support Dangote... That explains why he was favoured by OBJ (a corrupt southern Christian) over his competition like Ibeto, BUA etc. He was also favoured by GEJ (another corrupt southern Christian) over his competition before the current regime. So your relegation of his help system to the 'Fulani govt' or your ascribing it to tribe is rather a flawed logic. |
Simplyleo:Selling crude to Dangote at reduced price is the same thing as govt paying SUBSIDY. |
crestedaguiyi:How exactly did the man fail educationally or career wise?... His career as a radio presenter and Mc, if he truly was a failure like you posit, none of us would have ever heard his name. |
No need to compare fishes and oranges. They're 2 very different things, serving 2 different purposes. When I want to gbedu and dance, it's Davido for me. |
CodeTemplar:A 'bigot' is actually someone who believes his interpretation is always right and that of others are wrong. When one begins to think his biblical interpretations are right and that of others is "perverted", despite the fact that both interpretations are based on biblical scripts, then you may need to actually re-examine yourself for traits of 'bigotry'. |
CodeTemplar:What you term 'irrelevant' always ends up becoming subjective. What Mr A terms irrelevant may not be irrelevant in Mr B's interpretation. It then degenerates into the argument of who's right and who's wrong. |
CodeTemplar:There no such thing as irrelevant fact from the bible. You're simply subscribing to the long held 'convenient' interpretation of 'men'. We seem to pick and choose the portions of scripture that suit us and then tag the rest 'irrelevant'? How convenient! |
CodeTemplar:Perverted logic from the bible, right? |
lexy2014:If you still cant comprehend the English grammar I spoke below, then au revoir! I'm out! You win! obailala: |
lexy2014:I've answered your question with every single post I've made. I have said "no one is right or wrong" about 3 times and I've said "the man is the head of the home" about 3 times. I'm now beginning to believe you aren't reading anything I write but just running back to reply. Verse 21 says both should submit to each other, then verse 22 onwards makes it clear that the man still remains the head of the home nevertheless. You're obviously trying to discount the essence of verse 21, but No! it was placed there for a reason... Submitting to each other doesn't make the man subject to the woman, neither does it negate the man's authority as the head of the home as those verses emphasise. All those verse when read together simply means that whilst the man is the head, the woman shouldn't necessarily be disregarded. The reason verse 21 was included in there was obviously to checkmate the potential excesses of ruthless patriarchs. |
lexy2014:Ahaa! You see what I've been saying about no one being right or wrong? It's all about perspective. Your bible version titles the section beginning from verse 22 as "Husband and Wives", making it seem like the family instructions start from verse 22. But mine which I posted earlier starts the section at verse 21 and titles it "Instructions for Christian Households". Now you see why we have different views? All in all, the message when read together is clear; the husband is the head of the home, but verse 21 makes it clear that the wife should also have a say and should not be disregarded. |
lexy2014:The paragraph title (i.e. red arrow) refers to Christian households. First instruction following that title is "submit to one another". Who else makes up the household if not man and wife?. Or are you saying verse 21 refers to man and his children or his livestock (since you're sure wife only applies from verse 22)? Meanwhile you lost me on your question about "who is the head of the woman". I already answered that in 2 of my responses to you that the man is the head of the home, the scriptures also makes that clear... So I'm not sure why you keep repeating it. Anyway, you're free to have your own interpretation. But please don't fall into the trap of thinking you're always right and others are wrong. |
lexy2014: lexy2014: lexy2014:I pasted a screenshot showing a title (Red Arrow) above verses 21 - 33. The title says "Instructions for Christian Households", and the first statement says "submit to one another". Subsequent statements also make it crystal clear who the head of the home is; there's no ambiguity in this, except some folks just love arguments. Besides, a man who really loves his wife would somehow still 'submit' to her wishes and not take her for granted. I guess you're free to give that scripture any kind of interpretation you want to give it. But that the next man interprets it differently from you doesn't necessarily mean anyone is right or the other wrong.
|
lexy2014:Ephesians 5:21-33 was addressed to Christian households. The first instruction was "submit to one another". Even though the rest of the verses establish the family hierarchy very clearly (i.e. the man being the head), the very first instruction for Christian households is for couples to submit to each other. I don't think there's any ambiguity in this message, maybe people just chose to argue about it just for the sake of argument; or maybe because a character like Daddy Freeze is the one who highlighted it, several people just feel a compulsion to complicate a simple scripture.
|
JorgedeToledo:Freeze also quoted directly from the bible in plain English, no ambiguities. Except you're saying the authors of the bible made a mistake or are confused, I wonder what you mean by saying Freeze erred by merely quoting directly from the bible. The popular scripture we all know and quote is Ephesians 5:22-24. But what about verse 21? Freeze only drew attention to verse 21 by saying submission should really go both ways; even though the message is still very clear that the husband is the head of the wife/house. We really need to start studying the bible ourselves, instead of waiting for pastoral or public interpretation. Also we need to learn to accommodate the views of others, else just risk being 'bigots' if we think our interpretation is always the 'right' one and others are wrong.
