I agree with you. In almost every foreign movie, arabs are usually portrayed as terrorists and suicide bombers.

Nigeria is a country with a lot of messed up issues and the solution must start from within ourselves.

Which general trend? How about the depiction of "Colombians" and "Cubans" as drug warlords and criminals in foreign movies? Will you say because of that everybody in Colombia or Cuba is a criminal or drug pusher?

Just because Nigeria was mentioned in "Avatar" everybody is going berserk. The way it was done wasn't meant to insult Nigeria just like how "District 9" did. IMO, I don't even find the statement insulting at all.
TV/Movies › Re: Some More Ways To Know You Are Watching A Nigerian Film by obinna5000(m): 5:26pm On Mar 09, 2010
With all these flaws, how can Nigerian movies compete in any film festival?
Will Nigerian movies ever get nominated for an Oscar award? "Black and White in Colour (1976)" - Ivory Coast and "Tsotsi (2005)"- South Africa are the two African films that has won an Oscar.
TV/Movies › Re: Avatar, Insult Or Exaltation To Nigeria by obinna5000(m): 5:21pm On Mar 09, 2010
@jayjay4u
"Tears of the Sun" was a movie based on Nigeria's civil war. So, obviously Nigeria should be mentioned. Although the movie was never shot in Nigeria and no Nigerian actor was used.

What do you think will happen if the United States is disrespected in movies from other countries?
Why is it that in disaster movies (2012, Knowing, etc), the destruction usually starts from the United States?

Bro, you aint seen nothing yet, all these 3g/3.5 providers are rip offs. not much difference from gprs/edge
All these ISPs in Nigeria are pure money suckers and rip offs.
I don't think the 3G or 3.5G technology is fully deployed.

Guy Ritchie had no hand in the movie. The director was just trying to emulate him.

So, it was Paul McGuigan that directed that wack film "Push".

When Nigerians were depicted as savages and cannibals in District 9, did it make the front page of Nairaland? undecided
TV/Movies › Re: Avatar, Insult Or Exaltation To Nigeria by obinna5000(m): 4:08pm On Mar 09, 2010
Nigeria was not the only country mentioned. Venezuela was mentioned as well.

You can't compare the way Nigeria was referenced in "Avatar" to "District 9". The reference of Nigeria in District 9 was just disrespectful. Nigerians were pictured as savages and cannibals in "District 9".

Yeah! Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor as The Joker for "The Dark Knight". "The Dark Knight" also won Best Sound Editing at last year's Oscars.

Check out the new "Iron Man 2" trailer

What I was trying to say is that, if movie goers were given opportunity to vote from the movies already nominated for Best Picture or any other category, would "The Hurt Locker" still win 6 awards?
I guess the question has already been answered.

Transformers 2 was not even nominated for Best Picture. It was nominated in some technical awards but did not win. Thank you Jesus. kiss

Talk shows and reality shows are two different things
Talk shows base their topics on real life issues but they can't be considered as reality shows. While the reality shows presents purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors.
I prefer talk shows because most of these reality shows are totally pointless. Example: Keeping up with the Kardashians lipsrsealed
