Chiefpriest1: Office politics is not bad on its own, but in Nigeria it means leaking your boss' behind.
If you work in this part of the world, you have to learn to do it or you either remain stagnant or get fired during appraisals.
It has affected me in the several places I 've worked, but it's just not me to do anything outside what is official. It's a choice I 've made.
Ps: that backbiting and blackmailing seems to be their biggest tool in Nigeria u are right. But as far as I am concerned, corporate politics is a child's play compared to civil service politics. if u work in any MDA, u can testify. |

Career › Re: Should I Resign My New Job For A Contract Job? by obstead200(m): 11:32am On Apr 12, 2016 |
ebimila: My friend, first and foremost congratulations on the fact that you have a job although did not tell how well your current employers are doing in the market or business world. Good to know that there is room for career growth and promotion on that job. I guess that means very likely confirmation at expiration of your probation (that is if if you were employed to be a staff and not contractor). As for the other offer, a contract job is a contract job. Gone are the days that you would go into SHELL as a contract staff and get conversion to full staff. The greater percentage of SHELLs employees/ workforce esp. in Nigeria are contract staff (this is basically to reduce overhead). Some have been there for 15- 20 years as contractors on the same salary and even have regrets of having stayed that long. Even at 200k, thats complete stagnation and if i may add, your contract can be terminated at any time because of your status. May that not be your portion. It is important for us to learn from other peoples mistake. Money is not everything. If there is room for growth in your current place, you never can tell where God will take you in those 4 years. Most likely over and above the 200k+ SHELL job. That you worked as a contract staff means nothing and does not in anyway enhance your resume. Besides, you will be amazed at how fast 4yrs will go by, no growth, same pay, same task, more responsibilities (if and when you settle down), less motivation. Think hard and pray more. It always seems to look greener on the other-side. @ the bolded and colored; U made a lot of sense there. A lot of pple change employment without considering the prospects of the company and the industry into which they are going. I have turned down a lot of Jobs because of this single fact. From banking to manufacturing etc. As a financial expert, if I don't see the prospect of future growth and sustainability in a company, If a company is facing shrinking mkt size and unfavourable operating policies, If I cant see the mgt taking smart steps to grow the business, then I am not coming on board. I walk. |

nellyalph: I advise you stay with your new job. With the way the oil sector in this country is moving, my dear nothing is guaranteed and besides its CONTRACT job and it can terminated easily.. I got a contract job that didn't even last for a week sometime this year. Best advise so far. Oil firms are struggling to breakeven. No oil job, except the pay is really huge, is attractive right now. Except there is a clause preventing them from terminating ur appointment before the 4 year period, I suggest u stick to ur present job. 4 years is a long time and the oil sector would most likely recover by then. |

Henrick007: from the building plan I can still count at least 17 window, 450k might not even be enough if the fabricator want to use sub frame, 5MM glass, (NIGALEX OR EBM ALUMINIUM) U are mistaken. U were counting the balconies and the doors as windows. moreover about 6 windows there are 24 by 24inches. They should cost way less. Also any fabricator that plans to use very superior materials tend to brag about it in the quotation. 4ft by 4ft casement windows still cost less than 30k a piece. |

Pipe work of 180k is really on a high side. Yeah, most of the estimates are on the high side. the electrical piping, are the wires inclusive?, the protectors are they to be done with pipes or are they rods with elaborate designs? casement windows, abeg how can u spend 450k for less that 12 windows? these estimates are horrible. and what are u doing with 10 trips of plaster sand? are u building a new house? How many chambers will 110k build? are u going to live inside the chambers? abeg look for other estimates. |

Back to the matter. Thunder go fire anybody wey chop money meant for the betterment of patients. Which 19million are u spending every month?
FG budgets 16M for fueling for a 24hr stable electricity monthly. Meanwhile you don't power your generators for 24 hrs. IBEDC still supply electricity once a while, and the generators don't run at these times.
The main generator and most others are down at the moment due to lack of servicing. True or False? You mean you spend the whole 16m every month? Haba.
It will cost just 40M to link up with Ganmo's 33Kv substation. Why not do that?
EFCC and GOD is watching.
kontinu Dont mind the theiving idiots. They spend N16m monthly to power a 500KVA and a 350KVA? They are criminals. My institution (a federal tertiary institution) runs more than 25 generators. At least half of that number is running at any given time. Yet we dont spend up to 8m monthly on diesel. |

chris81964: I hope you all had a phenomenal week. Permit me to share a wonderful four weeks with you.
Three weeks ago we were recognized as one the top solar installers in Nigeria by Schneider Electric and invited to a round table in Lagos.
On February 29 Smallstarter.com recognized as one of the top 11 solar companies lighting upAfrica.
Last week the US consulate in Lagos invited us and will give us an opportunity to bid on providing solar power to the ambassador's residence. The trade desk got us an introduction to the Ex Im Bank who will finance equipment purchased in the US.
This week I got invited to be a guest speaker at Yale University Law School where I will talk about my experiences doing business in Nigeria as part of their Doing Business in Africa Series. It is a week long series and I am extra priviledged to be able to stand on the podium and relay my experience.
I want to Thank Chidinma Byron our able VP and Mrs. Ahunna Cook for making the speaking engagement possible.
Please attend and show them that I have people behind me.
Monday, April 25, 2016 4:30 PM-6:00 PM. (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) Where: Yale Law School, 127 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511
This month has been a dream. The journey has gotten so much sweeter.
Next week we are doing a survey for an estate with over 200 homes on the Lekki Peninsula to provide them with solar power. They accepted our proposal and we have now moved to the survey and feasibility phase.
Please continue to pray for us. AWPS Renewable Energy has worked tirelessly to distinguish herself in our market.
GOD HAS BLESSED US. OUR HARDWORK AND SACRIFICES ARE BEGINNING TO YIELD FRUIT.
When things look most bleak is when you double down and power through the darkness. I have always supported the idea of renewable energy. I presently use inverter and batteries in my house and they are of great benefit. But given the present economic situation in Nigeria, I have a great dislike for anything imported (although I have no choice but to use a lot of them). But I would really prefer if all NIgerian entreprenuers can develop and pursue a vision to end importations. so am Just wondering..................what are ur thoughts towards "Buy Nigerian, grow the naira" Is there any part of your plans that involve considering the possibility of utilising more nigerian made inputs in ur business? Do u have any vision to possibly support the manufacture of solar panels, chargers and batteries here in Nigeria? ......................like I said, am just wondering.................... |
