Anyway, I remember around February or so, Kanu asked for all the military and police checkpoints to be dismantled in the east. He gave 40 days for that to happen.

It was in the aftermath of this appeal, that UGM emerged and started going after police checkpoints and police stations, even before the 40 days of grace that was given. This helps to bolster the case that Kanu is not their commander.

Buhari is the minister of Petroleum. What this means is that even Garba Shehu can exert more influence in that sector than Timipre. Timipre is just a spare tyre who only does as he is told by the president.

The NNPC GM is way more influential and powerful, and really only has to report to the president and substantive petroleum minister.

The most meaty tasks in that ministry can be done just between the minister and the Fulani NNPC head.
