Hello, i just saw that online. gregmattoefl nigeria abi. jagaban17: I want to register to GRE asap, working towards November test date . What's the best way to get registered ?
1. By Myself on GRE/ETS site. 2. Test center offering to get me reg for 50k + free study materials in Ikeja (looks attractive and cheaper).
What are the pros and cons of these options. Thanks. |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by OGreene: 2:42pm On Sep 26, 2016 |
Thanks cuspy. Dates for US plenty, doesnt fill up that fast like in Naija. My only issue is if i now wait and dont get to travel to the US in Nov, meaning i have to write it here. So make i work wt the one that is sure. cuspy: I don't think you'd be allowed to take the exam in the US after picking a center in Naija. I'm not sure. The experts in the house would weigh in on that.
Except your stay there would be very very brief or you're trying to meet a deadline for an application or something, I advice you just wait till you're in the US, pick a date, a close by center, register and write over there. I don't think dates would be filling up as fast it is in Naija.
Or better still, just wait till you're back. The rigors and cost of reschedulling a date if things doesn't go as planned would be painful.

Wowww, please can you send me some of the materials, am about starting serious prep lachicaonline@yahoo.com cuspy: Hi Guys,
My GRE prep. is going fine. Four - five hours daily for at least 3 months I think should be sufficient for adequate preparation (I intend to go 5-6 months tho.)
I intend to give you guys a heads up on my progress and not to sound ostentatious.
I've read/studied the Official Guide (a compulsory starting point) and 2 of the 8 Manhattan Strategy guide series.
Each Morning (6am - 7am) before the 4 hours session, I practice the comprehension questions on the 5lb. Manhattan GRE guide. There are almost 100 passages (if not more) and about 180 comprehension questions in total in this book. I take an average of 10 questions (equivalent to about 4-5 passages) in 20 minutes two times each morning.
I stick to 20 minutes because on the real test I intend to use about 10 minutes to answer the sentence equivalence and text completion questions then the remaining 20 minutes to face the Comprehension questions. (If there's a flaw in my thinking, please kindly mention).
I use about 40 minutes since I go 2 rounds. Afterwards I use about 30 minutes to learn GRE words (average of 10 - 15 words) using the ubiquitous 400 wordlist on NOVA.
Then for the 4 hours session I alternate daily between quantitative (presently on the 3rd Manhattan strategy) and verbal (Using Gruber at the moment).
I've gone like this daily for about 2 weeks. I intend to take one test on the Official Guide and one on Powerprep after finishing the 8 Manhattan series and Gruber. Then the second test on both mediums after going through all the prep materials I've got; Barron, NOVA math bible, Magoosh wordlist and videos, Princeton, Kaplan - for Analytical Writing-, the 5lb. Manhattan and Gruber (other things being equal).
For those of us preparing for the test, keep reading! You're not alone. Also don't forget to keep encouraging others too.
God would crown our efforts with success. Amen.
Cheers. |

askari01, longest time bro You know that budget part is always tricky. Someone mentioned they dont ask for account balance again. So what can she do now...do another budget on a white paper? or work with what she has submitted, and do the addition right, 785+500= 1285. this brings it closer to 1520 askari01: Ogreen... how u dey nah? Longest time... well, why is the margin between the cost personally and total amount for the trip so much? The Living expenses is even too much, if she's staying with a friend, 200-300 will be fine. Your calculation is not even right, check well.... £785+£500= £ 1285... Thats much bro. Make sure her friend sends her prove of accommodation oo. Seems Money don make u forget so many things. Lol |

Good morning everyone. I missed you all oooo. Justwise, FrontpageLawyer, Iblaw, worry359, Una go say I don go underG. I still dey, work/activities just plenty for me. I have a friend planning on visiting the UK in Nov, for hols. To stay with a friend. She has sent in her application and will be going for Biometrics in a week`s time. I asked her to show me her form so we can scrutinize it here, I don't want her to dash the embassy money like that ooo. She is 27, single, working in a financial institution for 3 years plus. Earns about 220k a month after tax. No travel history. Her passport expires June 2017 (hope the period is ok). Her budget for 2 weeks is: Cost to you personally - £1010 Total amount you have for the trip - £1520 Cost of aeroplane - £785 Cost of accommodation - 0 Cost of living expenses- £500 Is staying with a friend the main reason for visiting UK. She ticked YES. My opinion, it think the last question should say NO, main purpose to be Tourism which is why she is going there ( Does this even matter?). Also the account balance is not strong enough. Oanda as at Jul 5 is 371. Dats abt N564k. Flight and living expenses will chop more than 80% of her money. I noticed the summation for the cost of trip doesn't match. Please what do you guys think? What can be corrected using the extra sheet? |

At the POE in Heathrow, the ECO asked to see my hotel reservations, she looked thru it and wrote down the address somewhr. So I don't knw if it's possible for u to get past the POE without showing evidence of hotel reservation. Remember in ur application, u said u will be lodging in a hotel. In my case, I did 3 hotel reservations sha, she saw the 3 reservations and jus wrote down the address of the hotel I will be staying the first night. Yea, I later cancelled other bookings but still booked other hotels later. funlover1: Thanks for the info. I actually chose Crytsal Lodge for the purpose of the application because the rate is cheap (566 for 13 nights for a double room). I am cancelling the booking today. I will actually stay with friends in london and manchester. I will book another hotel where i will stay for probably one or two days before moving over to my friends' places |

Hi, I have lodged for one night in Crystal Lodge, it's clean and quiet. Nothing fantastic The neighbourhood is kinda dry and the place is far from Central London. You could have chosen a place that is closer or maybe you have other reasons for choosing Thornton Heath as your camp base. funlover1: I submitted at Ikeja on 6th October, got an sms that decision has been taken last friday (16th october). My wife's income is 100k. She wrote 75k as her living expense (with an explanation that she takes care of domestic expenses at home while i save towards capital project other things). She wrote zero (0) as expenses on dependants. Total budgeted expenses for both of us is 1998GBP. Accomodation 566GBP (13 nights at crystal lodge hotel, thorton heath), flight 858 GBP (about 260k for both of us; but flight is more expensive now). The rest is living expenses. |

seems to me that the guy hasn't been straight forward. @Prince1930, be honest with yourself, DID YOU MANIPULATE ANY INFORMATION IN YOUR PAST VISA APPLICATIONS? 5 refusals no be joke, wetin you do? If u were denied due to low account balance, why then did you re-apply many times over and over again with poor account balance Hian! FrontPageLawyer: Sincerely we don't know what to believe. You stated you'd work as a civil servant for 12 years, now it's oil company manager turned communication guru. You have built your foundation on lies. I hope you're not on a 10 years ban. Like I said you'll keep dashing free money to Her Majesty Queen if you won't listen to people here.
Give a comprehensive details of your previous refusals. This will help. |

Free your mind, please. If your passport has a refusal stamp, there is nothing you can do about it. Some people dont get stamp, some get. Lets take it that some VOs just feel like stamping the thing Yes, address the refusal points and re-apply. The stamp doesn't stop you from getting your visa. Goddey1975: @lawyer yes,but if i reapply an adress d refusal reasons, i hope dey wont say i clean d stamp |

You have good home ties, good pay, ur account bal? Hmmm..... The Consular will wonder what u will fall back on when u return from ur trip + u hv family responsibilities. I don't knw abt ur travel history. If the application is not urgent, build ur account. If ur bro is taking care of ur accommodation and feeding, wetin u wan spend 350k ontop . Even tho you might, try to be as prudent as possible in the budget section, N180k/200k for flight and N80k/N100k for T-Fare and miscellaneous + Shopping. That's N280k. poca4real: Am on net salary of 350k,I have been working more than 5 years,I have almost 450k in the account due to projects undergo, less than 350k,am staying for two weeks ,my bro will cater for accommodation and feeding, am married with a kid.
Thanks for your response. |

I hardly see ppl refused US visa based on financial strength unlike what we know is common wt UK visas, most UK refusals re tied to finances. #MyOwnObservationsOvertime poca4real: Is there any amount you must have in your account?coz one of my friend got USA visa with amount lesser than what I have, and he on 70k salary per month.
