PTA is just getting foreign currency at the official rate for the purpose of travelling. You show proof of travel (passport with visa and flight ticket) at the bank, and they remove the naira value from your account and give you the currency you requested for. The maximum you can get is $4000 or it equivalence per quarter(CBN directive). There is no minimum. Some ppl dont even get to buy PTA when they re travelling because the bank may not have sold the PTA to them due to unavailability. These ppl kuku get the dollar from mallam at a high price; any amount they want- $100, $10,000 etc. Travellex is also there at the airport to sell to those that want to buy. Still $4000 max. PTA is better coz its way cheaper. Form A can help wt ur fees and expenses whl in school kenniez26: Please gurus in the house. What is d minimum personal travel allowance to enter USA as a student? |

Okay Fortissimo502: They won't be typically categorized as safeties except you have a really outstanding profile. UM is considered a public ivy and Emory too has pretty impressive rankings.
These schools would be categorized as "reach" by most. |

Lolz.. thanks. Running away from anything private. This afternoon i was just thinking "what if Baba/CBN comes on TV and says exchange rate is now N100 officiak rate". Sighs... LagosismyHome: safe from what alqaeda , isis , crime or what ?? ......lol
They are both good schools with some very strong programs so you would have to have a good profile . .........Also Emory is private so i trust you have checked their high tuition first and factored Buhari ever going up exchange rate
but yes everyone pocket ability is different . if you can afford it why not , they are both good schools |

I will mail them. Thanks a lot electronic: Since your GRE is in December, I advise that you just chill till you write the exam. Also you could use this opportunity to finish up on your SOP and LORs (yet to do mine self). Do some research on your schools and know their funding pattern. Some schools don't issue funding till after the deadline, while others have a rolling or first come first serve approach. Then get other schools that are really safe with decent funding chances just in case your GRE is score is not what you expected (God forbid). Now just mail profs in your research niche and ask them nicely in a really brief mail if they ate accepting students. Also mail the graduate corotdinator of those schools and make queries on funding. I have mailed like 30 Profs with little response but I am not giving up. |

Thanks Dare OluDare01: Hey! When is your department's priority deadline? I think you should look at that. In addition, if you turn in your application right now, your file would be incomplete until you submit your test score. So I'd advice you to start your application but don't submit till you wrote GRE, this would give your refs enough time. Also, apply well ahead of the deadline. During my application, a prof told me I applied late because they do rolling admission (though I applied like a month to deadline). |

Hello. I have some questions
I have the 3 schools i want to apply to...but yet to write GRE first week of December. Should I apply to the schools now and the exam score is sent to them later?
Or should I wait till December to write the exam and submit my applications that week?
Will December be late seeing that am hoping to get food funding. |

Hello, many ppl here wont be too comfortable giving out der number on this very public platform. Only on rare occasions. We all hv our reasons. First chat wt someone here by mail, abt the issue and plead wt d person to stay online wt you wen the other party is ready. If the nairalander agrees to give u a number...den yippe!!! fine! Remember u hv to work wt the nairalander's time not vice versa. Or just go thru with the process dey hv explained to you, if u encounter issues, come bk and tell us so. You will get more assistance. Ppl here are very helpful. kidman96: I saw the post about the person having a GTB acc and paying through online banking. I jsut wanted you to put me through the process and also be able to call you or chat with you in real time if the person encountered problems, that was why I needed a number, because it would be difficult with the person online and me needing question and waiting for you on Nairaland. Anyways that's all past now. I am sorry I reacted like that. |

UCB is not an ivy. Am only trying to be sure of what they are saying. By 'lower' i meant going down the ranking of schools. That same thing u mentioned osahons9: You and low ranked schools. There are ivy leagues and there are others. Choose from the others sir. Preferably between 30th to 80th according to US News ranking |
