A Nigerian journalist once suggested it to them that so many talented Africans playing in their league should be encouraged to take up South African citizenship but they refused.

Sure, this world cup.

Spain scored 2 goals against Mexico but could not add any even when the Mexicans were reduced to 10 men.
Mexico put a goal back and started mounting pressure on Spain. It was unlike the Spanish team, the Spanish team i used to know would have white-washed Mexico on that day

AjanleKoko:

Another Classico. This time it's the Iberian rivals.

Cristiano Ronaldo and his silky brethren vs the Spanish Armada.
I tip Spain to take this, for one reason only.
If Ronaldo couldn't go past Pique and Puyol all season, this one ain't gonna be different. He's a known foe.
Plus, Xavi and Iniesta, as well as Baba Villa, to do the damage at the other end.
The Blaugrana boys will deliver this one to Spain, if the Madridistas don't sink the nation first grin
.

World Cup games are very different from league games irrespective of the country the games are played.
We have seen so many players who were red-hot in their various clubs failing to live up to expectation ( e.g Rooney) and the other way round ( e.g. Klose).

The Spanish team has not really played well so far, they lost their first game against the Swiss and struggled to win their remaining two matches. Their defence is porous, we saw that in the match against Mexico
Portugal though not too spectacular but they have players who are strong and can turn around things for them aside Ronaldo.

Prediction: Portugal could just carry the day.

Sports / Kanu Denies Quit Reports by oisehumen(m): 7:51am On Jun 29, 2010
Kanu denies quit reports

Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu has denied reports claiming he has quit international football.

There have been reports since Nigeria’s exit from the World Cup quoting the 33–year old legend as saying that he would retire from the international game.

“I never told anybody that I was quitting international football. Of course, I remember the question being posed as we left the mixed zone after the match in Durban [against Korea Republic]. All I did say was that I would first go on a holiday with my family and think over everything. It would be my decision,” Kanu says.

Nigeria’s most successful footballer also lambasted a report quoting him as having said he would no longer be willing to work with the Nigeria Football Federation.

“That report is mischievous. I never spoke to anyone about not wanting to work with the Federation. I have been in the national team for the past 16 years and I know the difference between white and black. The present NFF leadership has done a lot; they have been committed, energetic and forthright, and have shown they have the interests of the players at heart.

“Surely, there is room for improvement as we go forward. But life is about learning and putting those lesions into use for future good”.

If he musters the will and courage to continue, and is around for the next World Cup, Kanu will be in line to be only the second African player to feature at four World Cup finals, after Cameroonian Rigobert Song set that in the ongoing tournament in South Africa.

Kanu previously played at the 1998 and 2002 finals, after narrowly missing the cut for 1994, and was unlucky not to have made it a third straight finals as the Eagles, captained by Jay Jay Okocha, could not qualify for the 2006 World Cup.

Culture / Re: Yoruba Traditional Marriage - What Are The Steps Involved? Pls Help: by oisehumen(m): 5:04pm On Jun 28, 2010
Let me share my experience with u then, maybe it could benefit u after all.

1. I took my parents and relations there to my in-laws house for a formal introduction.
The essence was for us to get to know each other. A list containing items for the traditional/engagement ceremony was handed to my parents. A date was fixed.

2 We proceeded to do the court marriage. The certificate is needed to enable you do the church/white wedding. I attend RCCG; the will not join you if the registry certificate is not presented by the would-be couple and their parents consent too.

3. Engagement ceremony day. I went there with my parents, relations and friends with the items there were given me during the introduction. There is no stereotyped way of doing it, depends on the family of the bride. Then, the normal traditional rites followed; blah blah blah.

4. White wedding, then reception.

Sports / Re: Brazil Vs Chile: [3 - 0] @ World Cup 2010 by oisehumen(m): 1:25pm On Jun 28, 2010
Tough match.
Chile has lost all 3 world cup matches to Brazil.
Brazil defeated Chile home and away during their South America 2010 qualifiers.

But the Chilean side has grown and matured in this tournament.
Spain could not score any more goals even when they were reduced to 10 men.

It promises to be exciting.
I can't wait.

Sports / Re: Argentina Vs Mexico: [3 - 1] @ World Cup 2010 by oisehumen(m): 1:09pm On Jun 28, 2010
I was thinking the winner between Argentina and Germany would win the trophy but am having a rethink.
The Germans had put up a similar good performance against Australia but went berserk in the second game. Struggled against Ghana.
I can't put my money on them.

Argentina has the best stars in this tournament but they lack a good tactician. Imagine Maradona removing Tevez (68 mins) and bringing Veron, a midfielder.
He again removed that flop called Angel Di Maria and brought in Jonas, a defender while Aguero rusts on beanch. Those changes he made yesterday only confirmed my suspicion that he is not a good coach.

If the young Germans raise their game, they will surely eliminate the Argentines.
Again, too close to call.

In short, i predict Ghana to win the cup grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Sports / Re: Wenger Agrees To Educate Nigerian Coaches by oisehumen(m): 2:45pm On Jun 25, 2010
Acidosis:

Rubbish! 'Coach' is not our problem.
Arsense eagle or whatever he call himself knows nothing about African football. Isn't it obvious that all the foreign coaches that led african teams to south africa messed up. We Nigerians understand ourselves than any foreigner.
The same people that invited Wenger will criticize and abuse him by the time he picks 10 players from the south and may be 1 player from either west or north. Our problem is tribalism!!!
.

Take it or leave it, our major problem is 'Coach'.
A right and good coach instills confidence, commitment/dedication on his players and gets good results.
By the way, has any local coach ever won a trophy for Nigeria?

1980 Nations Cup-Foreign Coach
1994 Nations Cup-Foreign Coach
1996 Olympics-Foreign Coach.

So, tell me where lies our local coaches now?
We should stop deceiving ourselves and face the realities.
Our coaches need to be educated seriously but 7 days are not just enough.
Let our good for nothing NFF send them to leading foreign clubs in Europe as apprentices.
