@ Kaycome, Don't waste your money notarizing anything. You don't need a lawyer or any cover letter. They understand the Nigerian system, so your notification or statement of result is good. If your school didn't get anything from WES, write a letter addressed to WES Director of Evaluations and explain that your school didn't receive any letter from them. Let them know you want them to resend it. I went through this process and it worked for me. Two other friends did same too. Don't even disturb yourself sending an email, they won't reply you. If you call, they can only tell you the status of your application which you have access to also. If you want to save time and money, I can post the letter on your behalf from here. All you need do is scan your notification of result and send to my email. To make it even faster, I can have a friend who resides in NJ to post it so that WES can receive it the following day and resend to your school. This is what I do for all my friends using WES. Let me know if you want to do that. Please note that I am doing this free of charge. This should be my own little way of helping peeps on here. |
@ Imperiouxx, I expect you to drop the name of your school on here if you truly want to show that life is so easy in America. You keep saying "my school", "my school" all the time. Your school no get name? Since your department no even need GRE to give out funds, I will just advise my friend who is also a metabolite to apply to your school straight away. I am not doubting you at all, I just think you can be of help to others too. Well, Schooling here may be so easy if you have your tuition and all other expenses taken care of by your school or parents. If not, it is not easy at all. Even if the school waives the out of state tuition for you. Do you know what it means to combine working 20hrs a week with your classes, assignments and research? Like I said earlier, America is the best place for you if your father is a millionaire and all you just need to do is go to class only and not work at all OR if you enjoy a very good funding from your department that pays for your tuition in full and gives at least a monthly stipend of $2000. If not, I don't even know what to say. Djunit and Aroy1 - this is in agreement with your earlier posts. |
Cuddlemii, Folks here have said it all. Whether your friend was in her safe period or not is not an excuse. Tomato is not a baby and should know that having unprotected sex during safe periods doesn't automatically mean she won't get pregnant. I am just surprised why your friend is now in a state of dilemma. If she could agree she was a fling and just messed around with the guy, then she should be ready to face all the consequences a fling would face. And since the deed has been done, let her inform the guy she is carrying his baby. Heaven won't fall if she does. The worst that could happen if the guy doesn't want a baby now is "abortion" . Don't tell me a girl who could travel thousands of mile to sleep with a man she met on face book is afraid of abortion. - Tell that to the marines.Nigeria is a country where a very large percentage of men doesn't want to marry a single mother else I would advise her to keep the pregnancy. |
@ Originality Your friend is misleading you. You can apply straight to graduate schools with your 2.2. There are a thousand and one schools that will accept you. Just make sure you write the GRE and score atleast 1000 (for Visa interview purpose). You may be admitted as a transfer student but my only fear is the embassy - they seem to deny a larger percentage of transfer students who apply for Visa. Masters is your best bet. You may want to check Widener University or City University of New york. There are more of them and I will refer you to www.msinus.com. You should get all you need from there. Just look for schools that accept a minimum of 2.5 gpa for graduate admissions ( that is the equivalent of Naija 2.2). Good luck. |
Kay-dee, Write me on p.ojay@yahoo.com |
Kay-Dee, Yes, I agree with you that Texas is one of the best places to study Geology. I told "herself" sometimes ago to consider states like California,Loisiana, Alaska and Arizona when applying to schools no matter what. Minnesota State is not popular for Geology. Texas is host to headquarters of most of all these oil companies. The state is also popular with her complex geology - mix of Cretaceous strata overlain by Quarternary conglomerates. California is popular because of her earthquake and San-Andrea's fault. Chevron's Enhanced Oil recovery method of bringing oil to the surface in the Kern river field in California is also news. Loisiana is undoubtedly the largest oil producing state in the US. It will be fun to study Geology in these states as you will have access to alot of grants, funds and ultimately cutting edge researches. Herself: Did you check the University of Texas at Permian Basin? Their admission process is more relaxed and with cheaper tuition compared to other UT's. Did you also check any of the California State University's? Anyway, since the deed has been done, I will only advice you to go to the embassy with atleast a standardized test. I am saying this because I know three people who applied to Minnesota State,Moorehead and were denied because they didn't write any test even when they explained to the consular that it was waived. Kay-dee, are you a graduate student, what is the name of your school, and what are your research interests? I am a Petroleum geologist too and would like to share some infos and opinions with you. Finally, I will be in Cal. State, Northridge in two days time and would like to know if there is any Nairalander in that school. I wish all Spring hopefuls the best of luck. |
Looking forward to the fun in Bako, California. Dance and party all night long. Kai, how I wish I'm in Newyork now, that is just the best state to be for the celebration. Naija folks go don scatter ground for there. Naija for life. |
Kay-Dee:You are right. And that is if he will be able to work for 20hrs per week. Classes+assignments+research(if a graduate student) may not make him make that much hours. |
Timotee:@ Timotee, don't get me wrong. I only said your friend should post whatever he wants to say here. Simple. |
dizyfrenzy:i'm not saying you are fake ooo.b ut, your school no get name wey people fit check themselves? why my school,my school? give us the name and let's check ourselves. |
@ aroy1, That is untrue. The last time I checked, most universities will offer admission to all applicants with a first degree in any Engineering major, not even when you now have a working experience in that field which I think may give my friend a upper hand. All he need do is just take the prerequisites for maybe one year upon enrollment and he will be fine. With my first degree in Geology, I was offered a provisional admission in Petroleum Engineering in 2010 but chose to go with Petroleum Geology which I have a passion for. I have seen Petroleum Engineering graduate students with first degrees in Mathematics,Physics,Geology etc. If in doubt, check the department catalogues of the UCLA, University of Houston,Louisiana State University and some other universities that offer the programme. His first degree is not an issue but his low GPA which is counting against him. For record purpose, such programs like Geology or Petroleum Engineering do not need you to have a first degree in that subject area before been offered a graduate admission. They just require you to have a very strong background in Calculus,Physics,Chemistry,Biology and Mathematics. All deficiencies will be made up in your first through your second year of enrollment as the case may be. All future applicants, please take note. @ USBound You are on point. That makes sense alot. |
Hi Folks, A friend had his B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ibadan, he graduated with a second class Lower ( 2.6 WES Conversion) and has a GRE scores of 1280. He needs suggestions about Universities that can offer him admission for a Master degree in Petroleum Engineering considering his "low' gpa. He told me he'd already applied to 3 schools but was denied admission. All suggestions/advice are welcome. |

imperiouxx:Lamentation?? Are you kidding us? So,you will make thousands of dollars within the few weeks and start living fine ? You should have just advised NL's coming here to bring enough money to survive for atleast a year instead of saying what is not. Saying this because nobody should expect an Angel to come dash him/her money when here. In AMERICA, you are ON YOUR OWN. |
Thee no wan no stagger, thine no stay in one place. Ye vote is forth Cuddlemii, Thy romantic gal |
ogugua88:Na wa for this America embassy ooo,dem just dey deny people anyhow. Thank God say i never buy ticket, lol. @ Ogugua88:What part of the bay area do you live? I live around there too. You can shoot me a mail on geowale@yahoo.com and let's talk. ![]() |
fris:Go to Craiglist or email your int'l student adviser about getting accomodation off-campus. I am so sure they have plans for that. |
coolgb: coolgb:I didn't get your mail.Drop your email and i will write you @ my first convenience. |
imperiouxx:Click on the link below and read my post. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-240241.4576.html |
geosegun:Cut that crap,U.I or no U.I , you can never compare USA geology with that of Nigeria.I spent a semester in FUTA for my masters before coming to the USA.The difference is so clear,USA is far stressful. How many geological papers do u write a semester in U.I, How many nights have you spent working with the petrological microscope, Do u even know what the Scanning electron Microscope is , How many Electrical or mud logs do u interprete in your petroleum geology class, have you spent sleepless nights trying to correlate 6 or more well logs and trying to discover where the fault(s) is, Have you spent weeks contouring maps and looking for spill points, traps,Gas water Content or Oil water content OR seismic looking for onlap, off lap etc. have you even been to the oil field to prospect before, How many petroleum software such as Petrel, Geographix etc have you spent weeks working on ? Please, dont let me start counting.Geology is so hard here, You will have to pass through the above mentioned in the USA to mention a few. |
This thread is timely, i think it came at a time when i am sick all due to stress from assignments, midterms, research etc. My friends who work on campus hardly work 10hrs out of the 20hrs given them a week, they don't even have time to go to work because of their academic work . I was already doing my Masters in a federal university in Nigeria before i came into the USA for my Masters. So,i think i am in a god position to compare. Naija education is easy, you wont have to write any paper, no loads of assignments, no practicals. And if you are lucky to write a single paper in 2years in Naija, lol.No Prof will check if you plagiarize as they cross check everything you write here.It is not easy at all.As i am talking ,i have four different assignments to turn in before tomorrow and i also have to study for my finals starting next week and also work in the laboratory on my research work. So,where is the time?? May God help us all. America education is not easy at all. |
herself:You may wish to shoot me an email on geowale@yahoo.com.There are some private questions i will like to ask you first. |
bigsale:You can reach me @ geowale@yahoo.com. |
johnkent:@ JK,How will you know Geologists exists when you are ignorant that they are the authorised explorer of the earth crust? I don't have any business with you,I am only advising herself who will soon become a professional geologist. I am pretty sure you haven't taken your time to read her recent posts about how hard it is to get into the Nursing program as an intl student, else you won't just open your mouth and talk. You don't see any reason why she shouldnt go for nursing right ? Then get her admission and I-20 into the nursing programme and we will know you mean business. Instead of you to profer a solution and advise on what to do or how she could get admission, you chose to just say what you like.Anyway,i don't have your time. Fall applicants, what is the latest with admissions,I-20's etc ? |
