Welcome to the world of freedom and inner peace. I've gone through similar scenerio as yours, though as "christian", so I think I should have a piece of advice for you.

I will encourage you to show her more love and care. I believe if she truly loves you in the first place, she will come around and love you for who you are now. Religion claim love and freedom, so why should you force it on anyone or hate them for not accepting it.

Secondly, try and get out of naija if you have the opportunity to do so, it will be better if you can take her and the kids along. An opportunity came for me to leave for America (alone) couple of years ago but I made sure I did everything I could to go with my family, and it worked.

Now, she knows I'm a better human being now than when I was a Christian and she loves me more for it. And yea, nobody is bothering my life here on why I don't go to church every Sunday. I only go when the kids make request that I should go with them.

I have also come to the conclusion that some of us are just not made for the Nigerian system.

If there are 58 or so counties in Africa ALL has put itself in one form of mental bondage or the other (be it religious bigotry, or ethnic descrimination, corruption , nepotism etc.) , then there is a problem with the black man. And so I can't wait to leave this country.

If you do a poll here, you will realize that 90% of those here practice the religion they were born into. Of that 90%, about 75% have never read any other religious text apart from theirs(that's if they even read theirs). They are those that know everything about other religions based on what they read online. What they read online are also written by others based on hearsay and other people's opinion.
I have been privileged to read the religious text of several religions including Christianity, Islam, grail movement, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism among others.

A classic example: go to a newspaper vendor and watch people argue for 15mins. You will see people explain how buhari told osinbajo to tell laid Mohammed to keep lieing to Nigerians. They will tell you it happened behind close doors so that people will not know. They will even explain how they switch of the light etc and you will hear other people attesting to same and even contributing their own details. These are people that have never been in the presence of their LGA chairman yet they know what happens in the privacy of presidents, governors and ministers.
And people will hear that, go home and peddle same as God's own truth.

You make a lot of sense bro. Most Nigerians practice the religion they were born into, they are trained not to ask difficult questions of their religious leaders, question doctrines, or think for themselves.

Yet they are ready to fight people who practice a religion that they themselves probably would have been practicing if they were born in thesame family.
A logically sound mind would at least want to find facts before condemning but no.

It is because, while religion might help us find meaning for life, there is a big tendency for conflicts with other groups due to lack of tolerance and blind followership that is evident everywhere on this thread.

Reasonably arguments are easily misconstrued as personal attacks, or an attack on some religious group identity. Everyone claiming their own belief system is better when the argument should be how to be better as an individual and for humanity.

I have given up on this country. I think maybe majority of Nigerians just have below average I.q when compared to advanced countries. And thus the average Nigerian can never understand these things. That's my theory which would be proven or disproven with time. It has already been shown that there are significant variations in the average I.Q. for different races.

We all have what we look at in the opposite sex before committing our lives in marriage. I am sure she would have been approached for marriage by other men in other religions. It's like promising one and at the end the peomise is not fulfilled. It's a betrayal...yes you have betrayed your wife! and she will never be happy with you. You have to come back to your religious self. Being atheist happens when one is not involving in religious activities. If you want to search for the truth, you will listen to the "asalat" And to other religios doctrines including free thinkers, agnostics or atheists, and then you can make a decision for yourself as an individual. Only those who would risk losing their lives would find it. Listening Only to what you've been taught since you were a child is how to remain in what you believe whether or not it is really true.

I suspect he spent a lot more on the actual building cost than you did. And you didn't intentionally keep him from knowing whose name is on the title deed?

While I understand you shouldn't grant his request. I also suspect he didn't actually ask you to leave with the kids. He probably just asked you "alone" to leave? Which is also wrong of him. But if that is true, your bringing the kids into it suggests the same sneakiness that made you allow him spend his life savings building on a land that was not in his name. It is unlikely you didn't take effort to ensure he does not find out. This same sneakiness may be the cause of the fight that revealed all these.

The way he sees it is that he overreacted for one day but you have been keeping a deep secret for many years.

You just have to convince him everything I have said above is not true or its no longer true.

Well by that time I wouldn't have a choice but to share, whether I like it or not . Law is law lol. Firstly the only way I would open my doors to a man is if he has a concrete plan and I believe in it fully and he is enthusiastic about the execution of that plan. I would never let a man who is looking for direction enter my home , he had better try next door lol. The one with a plan would be in need of support in order for the dream to be realized and I'm all for that, I would be 100% behind him . Therefore If he succeeds I succeed and if we divorce, I get to take my share. Same if I bring in more fruit , it will be possible with his support and encouragement so I would think he is entitled to it as well.

Please just make sure your guy is aware of how you think before you get marry. Some will be very OK with it. Others will quickly run away. Either ways it saves everyone lots of trouble
