I was thinking out loud the other day... With 5 million Naira. The government can build a small 2 bedroom apartment in a small town. N250 million can build 50 of these, and with approx. 194 billion Naira, we can build 50 2 bedroom units in each local government in the federation. Replicate this for 4 years and you must have solved housing problems for approximately 155,000 Nigerians. If this is done for consecutive 10 years, 372,000 families might have benefited from the plan and the issue of housing would start to become history. Government can issue houses on a 15 year mortgage plan with beneficiaries paying approximately 28,000 monthly.

You too know book- thumbs up, the only challenge I foresee is land and the proximity of the land to already existing urban development - like the city centres ot state capital etc

Let's even assume - that sgbn went under due to regulatory policies - why should I vote for someone that,

1. Would use the organs of govt to further his own personal agenda as against mine and other nigerians- closing the senate on days when he had hearing in the CCT.

Why should I vote for someone with questionable code of conduct filings - if he, his wife, cousins or children are not the owners of the property in the UK - he should come out and deny it, so he can either forfeit it to the british govt or nigerian govt -Because, we all know what they do - they buy things in advance or buy properties in the name of their children - where they don't do that they buy it in shell company names offshore - registered in places like Togo Mali where to get the registration details is next to impossible.

7. He should be honorable/decent enough to pick either the presidential nomination form or the senatorial nomination form and give others the opportunity to aspire politically

Why should I vote someone that cannot serve as a good role model, and obey and defend/adhere to the principles of the constitution or or statutes that says, if he wants to change party alligences he should declare his seat vacate - instead of turning things on its head just for self preservation

I enjoy when people talk - how do you implement such a thing, via a fiat? - everybody in the economic team and management of govt, knows there should be only one exchange window, but how do you narrow it into one, when we are highly import driven?

So it may seem - but believe it or not this is not text book micro/macro-economics - it's actual facts of what is happening- the strength of china's economy is not based on the consumption of its people alone- but it's ability to be able to garner income from around the world - they export labour they expand into foreign markets and take it over - taxes are now paid/remitted back to their country and they transfer their over capacity - now using theses scenarios - why do you think dangote is not affected adversely, so much if the Nigerian budget is not passed early? This is my assessment, It's because his business is domicile in many countries in and around Africa, and returns on investment comes in from all these other countries - when you add all these together you find out he may have more income then nigeria - which is evident in his networth and our budget size

I doubt if you have read biographies/histories and stories of some of the greatest man like cadburies kenturkey (they all invested beyond their states of initial origin and became national brands)- I want to believe their stories are on line - but I guess the analogy would be too far fetched and may not be very much understandable, in the context of this discussion - so let me use the analogy of states in nigeria, using 2 or 3 states to explain- lagos, Ogun and kebbi state- lagos state is the state with the highest IGR in nigeria currently, accepted? Now, lagos has a population of 20m people - but lagos needs people to run the economy and in return pay taxes- we know some come from ogun state and pay indirect taxes to lagos state, such as transport levies and garage tickets levies etc accepted? This adds to the IGR of lagos state -without digressing - now when residents are properly taxed, lagos state would be able to say they are collecting N500b on IGR except they introduce other taxes or levies or increase levies - they would employ this to infrastructure and if they try and push for more revenue it may not be available and it may waiver b/w 1 - 5%± - so in order to expand streams of income they could invest in ogun state or do what they are doing now invest in kebbi state (lake rice) when their income are stagnated, the income from these investment would continue to increase income IGR to Lagos state expanding the level of wealth accruing to lagos state but expanding beyond its boundaries - now imagine lagos state also investing in the west african sub-region- dollars would accrue from these investments and that's how lagos could become richer then nigeria - now super-impose this analogies

When america under-went recession sometime ago - it took china's help to get them out - have you ever considered what the nexus is between the American economy and the world's economy? It's not their machinery because the world either goes to China Germany or Russia for that - it's simply their currency which is the international mode of exchange- now that China is also trying to make available their currency to the world - what do you think would happen- it would reduce the request for the dollar - that apart, america borrows the world money at low interest rates - 0.25%(now you ask how they make their money- economics of scale - a lot of countries collecting these monies all over the world) for long tenors, then you ask how they manage to stay viable- the American economy is not a cash based economy credit cards- mortgages - hire purchase of cars- loans for school fees all these help spread the effect of all these costs- while they go after taxes to maintain liquidity (that is why you would see bear bonds of $1m- that have existed since 1870 still being traded and accepted as legal tender) this is also a complex economic Web which cannot be fully explained here-

The worst time America had issues was during George W Bush era. American economy was on fast lane which led to 2008 global economic meltdown. Obama put a lot of reform's. Presently Trump s economic policies is not bad for American economy. Intact Trump is even rising up to the biggest threat to US presently which is China with her sharp economic malpractices.

Yes in the short term they are the best- unemployment has gone down - but look at it critically - how? He decided to stop immigration into the US- there by creating opportunities for US citizens to get jobs reducing unemployment - is the policy sustainable? Can one country be an island what happens when the cycle is complete and and more jobs are required to increase GDP? This week, China hosted leaders from across Africa for a summit in Beijing. The last summit was held in December 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where Chinese President Xi Jinping announced $60 billion in funding support for infrastructure development in Africa.

The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation included an eye-popping announcement of billions of dollars more in Chinese financing to build infrastructure across the continent. But these massive loans can come with steep and opaque conditions.

It’s tempting for Americans to think this is not our problem. But as African countries sink deeper and deeper into Beijing’s carefully laid debt trap, the United States could pay a steep cost in reduced cooperation on counterterrorism and job creation.

Chinese debt has become the methamphetamines of infrastructure finance: highly addictive, readily available, and with long-term negative effects that far outweigh any temporary high. This is particularly true in sub-Saharan Africa, where China has become the largest provider of bilateral loans. Forty percent of sub-Saharan African countries are already at high risk of debt distress; by having so much debt concentrated in the hands of a single lender, they are dangerously beholden to their supplier.

Why does this matter? Because in Africa and elsewhere, governments have secured massive loans from Beijing using strategic assets—such as oil, minerals, and land rights— as collateral. If borrower nations find themselves unable to repay the loan, China can claim the strategic asset. Sri Lanka recently learned this the hard way and handed over control of the port of Hambantota, giving China a strategic foothold along a busy trade waterway.

According to Professor Brahma Chellaney at the New Delhi-based Center for Policy Research, “several other countries, from Argentina to Namibia to Laos, have been ensnared in a Chinese debt trap, forcing them to confront agonizing choices in order to stave off default.”

While Chinese debt diplomacy may not seem relevant to most Americans, it is a serious threat to US national security. Most directly, China’s crafty negotiations and seizure of strategic assets can limit US influence and access overseas.

For instance, the tiny country of Djibouti is home to the most significant American military base in Africa. Thanks to Chinese loans, Djibouti’s debt-to-GDP ratio surged from 50 to 85 percent between 2014 and 2016. If Djibouti were to default and relinquish the port that resupplies the US base, American military capability in Africa and the Middle East could be seriously threatened.

More broadly, unsustainable levels of debt can destabilize African states, which also compromises American security interests. Over-leveraged governments can get caught in a downward spiral of credit downgrades, reckless economic policies, and reduced spending on social services. With economic stagnation comes fewer opportunities for Africa’s fast-growing and young population. And the toxic brew of economic hopelessness and political disillusionment can drive disaffected youth toward violent extremism. That can threaten Americans abroad and, potentially, even at home.

Finally, China’s debt diplomacy shuts out opportunities for US businesses. Not only do Beijing’s cheap infrastructure loans come with conditions to employ Chinese companies, they also set out technical specifications for projects like high-speed railways and wireless networks in a manner that favours Chinese firms. The combined effect of these efforts “would push the United States away from its current position in the global economy and move China toward the centre,” according to Jonathan Hillman, a fellow at the Center for International and Strategic Studies. China already earns $180 billion annually from its investments in Africa; if its debt diplomacy remains uncontested, it’s likely that even more revenues and jobs will flow to China, instead of the US.

But this outcome is far from inevitable. The US has plenty of good options, but it needs to dramatically step up its game and support alternatives to Beijing’s aggressive finance initiatives. Perhaps most fundamentally, the US needs to focus on boosting African economic growth. Helping African states to strengthen investment climates and economic governance will help them attract more private sector capital and provide more entry points for US companies. A key component is assisting African efforts to increase transparency, so that all the costs and benefits of project finance options are openly known. Fully staffing US embassies and offering more technical assistance to evaluate loan agreements and investment contracts would be a good start.

To date, the Trump Administration’s Africa policy has been adrift, defined more by racial epithets than any cohesive strategy or results. By comparison, China has a clear vision that will yield long-term benefits.

In Africa and around the world, much more needs to be done to confront Chinese debt diplomacy. If not, the US will pay a heavy price in its commercial and national security interests.

A 20-year-old self-confessed killer of the dreaded Eiye confraternity in Lagos State, Mariam Abiola, has shared more details after her recent arrest by police operatives in Ilasamaja area of the state.

Maryam claimed that she ran away from home because of poverty. She said; “After my secondary school in Abeokuta, I started hawking satchet water and other things with my mother. She told me to quickly get married and the man who wanted to marry me is an old man. My girlfriend who is based in Lagos came back to Abeokuta to see her parents. She told me to follow her to Lagos and without telling my mother, I came to Lagos.

“On getting to Mushin, I discovered that I still have to hawk to survive. The other option is to be sleeping with men for money.

I have a small body and men do not like me so much. They will sleep with me and tell me stories. Unfortunately, I met Sodiq when I visited Ilasa with my girlfriends. He convinced me to join them, that I will make good money. They took us to their herbalist and we took an oath. He then taught us how to use the gun. He told me that all the people that we will kill are bad people. I have never seen N10, 000 in my life, so I was willingly to do anything to make that money.”

When Sodiq confronted her insisting that they have never met, she laughed and said. “Brother Sodiq, you cannot deny me. Your mother sells Agbo (herbal medicine) on your street. It was inside your house that you taught three of us how to shoot. You were even the one who said that since I wear hijab that no one will suspect that I am a killer even if I was found at the scene. You also said I have a small stature that people will believe I am 20 years old. It has happened, denying me will not solve your problem, Brother Sodiq.”

According to Maryam, her first victim was a woman. “The first person I killed was a woman who lived at Hassan area, close to Ilasa. Sodiq said that the woman was evil and needed to die. I entered her house in the night and killed her while she was sleeping with her children. By the time people who heard the gunshot gathered, I had left the place and returned the gun to Sodiq. I even went back to the house to make sure that she did not survive. That night Sodiq gave me N10, 000.

When asked if she knows that it’s a crime to kill, Maryam said yes. “Sodiq explained to me that killing a cult member is not a crime. He assured me that all the persons that I killed were cult members who deserved to die.”
