Hello house and our ancients, I'm happy to inform that me and my family are now in the abroad. Thank you for all your assistance, advice, suggestions, directions, responses etc.
I'm open to any more directions you may have for me like how to get a UK SIM while still in quarantine. ( I tried to purchase for Smarty but the payment would go through even with Dollar card). And etc. |

The only thing that might take time in this is collecting your baggage, for me, it didn't take more than 30 mins from landing to baggage claim. Thanks for your response. Was it your first time traveling to the UK? That is, did you have to show papers and documents for the first time? |

umarwy: Budget 3-4 hrs for immigration, baggage claim , toilet, look look etc. With covid it might be more.
Why not book straight to Manchester?? Thank you! Tickets already bought long time ago when I thought we'd quarantine in London. Can't change now. |

I want to book bus from Heathrow airport to Manchester, but I'm unsure how much time it'll take from landing to 'check out' to concluding all immigration protocols.
Please, may I get guidance on how much time our stay in the airport is likely to last plus any tip on how best to travel to Manchester after dropping down in Heathrow.
Thanks. |

dupyshoo: Got my first Engineering before I completed my MSc. Had to apply for loads of jobs though but got to Assessment centre stage for so many graduates jobs then. I believe it should be easier now than before when resident Labour Market was required.
If you are hardworking and willing to put time into applications, you will likely get something. My advice is once you commence your MSc in September, start applying for jobs immediately. Most grad jobs open in October and close in December or January for the next Sept resumption. So start early. Learn how to carry out telephone interviews. Learn how to answer competency questions. I had bank of competency questions then that covered a lot of soft skills such as team working, communication, difficult situations etc. Know how to structure your answers in STAR format.
Schools used to organise mock interviews and sessions to look at your CV. Utilise that very well. Change your CV and make it more professional. Write a good cover letter. Finally, get a friend that has been successful that can help. Pray tell, where are these grad jobs usually advertised? |

How best can I pack these so that they will not raise any issues or be removed while being checked in?

justwise: Living in Manchester and travelling to Bradford for lectures? Your husband must be loaded, bad idea to be honest.
Book Airbnb for a week in Bradford and within that period you people should be able to get a house.
I lived in Bradford for about 6yrs and I know that Bradford is not as bad as people make it. Search for house in these post codes: BD5 and BD7, they are within the university and college proximity and loads of student accommodations. Bradford is not dominated by Asians alone , Eastern Europeans has taken over and you also have a good number of Africans there.
If you don’t like Bradford then Leeds is an alternate, 20mins away by train, 45mins by First bus, Leeds is like London of Yorkshire , well developed, a bit of all races there and also affordable to live.
As always before leaving Nigeria search for houses, book viewing appointments , when you get to the Uk have a look at the university notice board for accommodation ads, Internatioal centre also has list of private landlords you can contact for accommodation Thank you much. We'd definitely focus attention on getting accommodation in Bradford, Halifax or Leeds. If we don't secure one before we reach the UK, we'd go to Manchester for the quarantine period and after, work out our Bradford accommodation from there. Please, are there any landlords you can direct us to? This will be greatly appreciated. |

Irenenwaka: Hello Ola, let’s always remember that this is life where everything doesn’t always go as planned. I have seen people who get accommodation in 1-2 weeks, i have seen others as well who don’t secure a place in like 2 months.
If i tell you can secure a place in 20 days, what happens in you are unable to do so? Have you got extra cash for more days on airbnb?(if you do then you can go with the airbnb option, whereas if you don’t it could be a risky option)
If i were in your shoes i would accept the accommodation my family is offering at Manchester. The location might not meet my requirements but at least i could stay there and gradually look for an accommodation in my desired location without being under any pressure. Living in a shared accommodation as someone highlighted can be very challenging even with your kids but who knows you might get a very good place.
Just to add the time scale required to find a place depends on a lot of factors such as if you have enough money to pay upfront for rent as you are new to the uk, if you going to rent directly from landlord or agent, if you find an accommodation that suits the family needs and so on.
In summary stay away from any option that puts the family under unnecessary stress, duress and financial strain and most importantly pray about your plans. Thank you. Your advice is very insightful. |

wallg123: Madam in my opinion even though Bradford is a shithole town. It will be cheaper, and more convenient for you and your family than living in 2 double room in a shared flat with your husband and 2 children. The wahalla you go face for that arrangement go worse pass racism oh. Your husband can get to university easier and your kids can integrate easier in Bradford. Talking about “racism”, there are Asians also in Manchester, everybody experiences a bit of racism even the white people. You can get a decent 2 bed accommodation in the outskirts of Bradford/ Halifax which would be comfortable for your family of 4. If you are not happy after 3 months when you guys must have settled down you can change houses….. my humble submission Thank you for your honest opinion. Those are my thoughts too. But we are worried about having to experience prolonged delays securing accommodation in Bradford if we go with airbnb. Are you in Bradford or know agents or landlords you can link me up with, please? |

Irenenwaka: Getting accommodation whilst abroad can be challenging, also some properties don’t allow kids as well. So thats double challenge. Your best bet would be book a cheap airbnb then when you arrive the city take your time to search. Typically, how long will it take to get accommodation when one arrives? So that one doesn't get stuck, having to pay for airbnb for prolonged periods of time? |

Guidance needed, our Ancients! Securing accommodation has really been a great challenge for my husband and I. We are a family of four. His school is in Bradford. Now my uncle is strongly suggesting we stay in Manchester and my husband who is the student takes the train to Bradford to attend classes. A little more than an hour journey. My uncle has in-laws in Manchester who are already working on getting accommodation for us in Manchester.
Our concerns are: * The accommodation is a room in a shared flat. (rem, we are a family of four) they say it's doable. * Manchester is more expensive than Bradford and living costs and childcare are likely to be more expensive too. * Are there informal arrangements for childcare that will be much cheaper, as this is what my uncle is suggesting? * If we get airbnb in Bradford for 20 days, are we likely to secure an apartment before the end of the 20 days stay? * We would really have preferred to be in Bradford, but they are saying that we are going to experience more racism there especially as there are more Pakistanis and Indians there, so finding work will be a challenge.
What can we do please? We need all the guidance and advice we can get. Especially as we are relocating with our kids and want the best option possible. |

BouharryArtikou: Doctor-in-training is NOT allowed for a tier-4. visa holder. You mean he trained in Ukraine. No licence to practice yet, then the UK allows him to just do housemanship in their country?
Besides, you seriously think he can simultaneously combine an MSc program with a housemanship? If I were you, I would follow what @ sgtponzihater1 has said, very meticulously. Saw this while checking out things. https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/Working/Student-work#layer-6647

icon8: Yes. It’s part of the screening process, and it’s so that you both don’t waste each other’s precious time. Look at it this way, why book someone in for viewing when they can’t afford to rent the property? Some people go for viewing like window shopping, just to kill boredom . Only that for viewing, someone else’s time is involved.
If you really need or want the property, disclosing your income should not be an issue. How can I disclose my income when I I'm not in the UK? Or should I show my Naija account balance? |

Hello all, I'm new here. I'm very grateful to find this thread. We'll be new immigrants in the UK soon. We just recieved our visas. My husband is going to study his Master's and we are joining as his dependents. I'll appreciate all advice and guidance I can get.
To start with, how long can my 3 year old daughter school a week? I hear 15 hours free education and 30. What is the correct one? And how can I get her into school as soon as I get to the UK?
Any tips on how to get work. Any work although I'm looking at senior care giving. Thanks |

Please I'll like to know about the account statement used for the family. Is £6,000 the only amount meant for the entire four dependants or for each person? Since you said you used the same account statement.
Thank you in anticipation of the response Each dependant has a his own amount. That is, £680 × 9 months for outside London. So the account has a total or cumulative of the amount for the student and each dependent. |
