Nigerian pastors are good in delivering people from witches and wizards. They've never cared to deliver Nigerians from the corrupt politicians who're milking Nigerians. The witches and wizards are tired by now. Most Nigerians dont have blood for them to suck. Our politicians are the ones we should all pray to be delivered from.

Fellow Nairalanders, I am just wondering where those things promised by Ngozi Okondjo Iwahala during subsidy protests vanished to. Nigerians do not see these buses on our roads.
Moreso, where are the phones for the farmers bought with 60 Billion? How many farmers have received the phones? Are Nigerians really keeping account of this government's brazen thiefery?

OK. Nigerian athletics is semi-dead. The men athletes are performance dead. However, our ladies are really improving. The only problem is that Nigeria has fewer elite athletes performing. Blessing Okagbare is our best. This year, Blessing has started off very good, better than she did last year (olympics year). As usual, she started her season at Mt. Sacs relays where she ran a world fastest 22.31s in 200m. She replicated this form last night when she anchored the Nigerian 4x100m to 4th position (behind USA and Jamaica). She collected the baton in 6th place and finished 4th.
A closer look at the relay team tells a different story. First leg was run by Gloria Asumnu, a very good runner, but she's not getting younger. She still ran a disciplined race though. 2nd leg was run by Nigeria's new sprinting sensation, Regina George. Regina is a 400m runner, and she only 'stepped in' to help complete TeamNigeria. She ran well and handed over to Olivier Kizzee, who's representing Nigeria for the first time. Olivia maintained the pace and handed over to Blessing who finished the job.
The bigger story is in the 400m. See the videos and watch Nigeria's 3rd leg. Forget the winners, but the fastest in the whole field is her! Regina George. She wasnt tired after the 4 x 100m, she went ahead and ran a 49.5s split. No other runner in that field ran below 50s. Big things to come from Regina in Moscow world champs.

The final match is tommorow evening. A lot has been said about these boys. What struck me most is that almost all part of Nigeria is represented in the team.

ADAMU ABUBAKAR: Born: 15.10.97 Shirt 21

BERNARD BULBWA Born: 11.10.1996 Shirt 7

Cut his footballing teeth at Mkar Rocks in Gboko before joining Shuttle Sports Academy in Lagos. Nicknamed Tsumcy which is coined from his middle name, Tsumega-which literarily means ‘no mistake’ in his native Tiv dialectic. SALIU ALI-BABA: Born: 10.08.97 Shirt 20

Picks Lionel Messi as his favourite player and Barcelona as favourite club.

MUSA YAHAYA: Born: 16.12.1997 Shirt 11

Yahaya is an introvert that allows only his velvet skills to do the talking for him. Started his career at Mutunchi Football Academy in Kaduna, but now with Hearts Academy in Kano, Yahaya adores Real Madrid’s Brazilian and 2007 World Player of the Year, Kaka. Always wearing a smile, he’s called Musa Iniesta!

AHMED UMAR: Born: 12.07.1996 Shirt 12

Started his career as a right back, but was converted to a midfielder at GEELEC Soccer Academy. Come from a large polygamous family, but the last born of ‘my adorable mother.’ Pint-sized midfielder with excellent skills, he scored one of the goals in the Golden Eaglets’ 5-0 defeat of Junior Wasps of Rwanda last year in a friendly.
During Easter when i was in Nigeria , went out with my friends to see someone who just built his house in lekki. we stayed there for a while and left around 10pm going back to Ikoyi. Got stopped by some police officers( i though they said fashola banned checkpoints in Lagos? huh) Told us to come out and later claimed we assaulted one of their officers aiming their gun at us saying they were going to shoot us. it was a tactic to throw us off our feet and when they found £ in my pocket, they concluded i was a yahoo boy. One of them told us they could waste all of us and claim we were armed robber and refused to stop. I really questioned why i came to Naija that day as i have not seen this kind of thing before in a long time. This guys that were suppose to keep the road safe said they would waste us and call us armed robbers which makes we wonder how many innocent people have been killed by police officers. I gave them money which is obviously what they wanted and they started calling me Rich kid. i was happy no accidental discharge happen and lucky to still be alive as i could smell concentrated substance on them which i could think off as weed. I noticed the other officers were trying to calm the guy who raised the gun at us claiming we assaulted him down.Either he is mentally unstable or was high on drugs.Till i left back to the UK,i refused to leave the house at night and ensure i am back home latest by 7pm.

Now i am here and reading post from people claiming Nigeria is safe? Maybe you guys should try staying in UK for a while and see the difference. I leave my house at 2am to pick up my mate at the train station and no reason for me to hesitate at night.Friday night, we go out from Portsmouth to London and sometimes Birmingham and we have no worries about any dangers on the road.Road is safe,No armed robber,No pot holes on motorways. In Nigeria, i have to keep reciting psalm 23
So by that single, isolated incidence, Nigeria is unsafe. Bravo! Hope you have your red pali because Nigeria doesnt really need you.

sol2galay: My brother i am in pakistan right now owing to what i am seeing here i begin to share tears for my dear country nigeria. It is always good to defend your own any day anytime but you ve to do dat in honest manner,it is always good for us to be telling ourselves home truth so that we will be able to fashion solution to our problem, remember the worst thing that will happen to a man is when a man started lying to himself. We know we have problem in this country and lets all agree we have problem so that solution will come. My sojourn through Pakistan made me believe that nigeria is the unsafest place on earth,i travelled to Lahore yesterday and i waited behind to watch chelsea and Basel match and the match was concluded about 2:30am,after the match i boarded tricycle to catch a bus going to Islamabad by 3:00am.could u believe that by that odd hour that children are still playing cricket in the street. i traveled from Lahore and get to Islamabad by 8:00am and no harassment from and form or security men.

The only problem the have is terrorism which is targeted unlike nigeria.please don't ever compare nigeria with pakistan in terms of security of life and property, even in food security.
So Nigerian children cannot play on the street at 3am? Fear is one thing. Actual insecurity is another. Nigeria is more secure than Pakistan in all aspects.

If a foreigner entered this thread and read what Nigerians have to say about Nigeria, they would never step into Nigeria for anything. It is unfortunate that as learned and well-traveled some Nigerians are, they still cannot put things into perspective. Yes Nigeria is Unsafe, just like America is unsafe, same as some parts of Britain. If USA was safe, there wont be thousands of deaths yearly due to crime. Stabbings occur almost weekly in Britain. It is therefore unsafe.
Nigeria is not there yet, but not as bad as posters are painting. Accidents, crimes, and avoidable accidents are all different things.
Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by olapluto(m): 10:42pm On Apr 25, 2013
Lets not derail the thread by arguing with Rossikk....Is Nigeria really unsafe? Yes and NO.Honestly largely NO. I grew up in Ibadan and always stay in IB whenever I'm in Nigeria. Perhaps due to having a 'son of the soil' feeling, I pretty much travel around IB anytime of the day. I can hit Lagos-Ibadan at any time of the night. So far, I havent been robbed, my only fear is accident with Dangote's trucks on the pot-holed roads
I fully agree that some parts of the country are unsafe, but honestly that is more to do with perceptive fear than actual insecurity. But again, perceptive fear builds on years of constant occurrence.

Jermaine Defoe once bit an opponent, all he got was a yellow card:
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe says he has learnt his lesson after attracting criticism for seeming to bite the arm of West Ham's Javier Mascherano.
Defoe was booked during Sunday's win but escaped further punishment from the Football Association.

"It was in the heat of the moment," said Defoe. "I need to move forward, it definitely won't happen again.

"I didn't do much, but it was out of character. I don't usually get involved like that."

Defoe appeared to bite Mascherano after he was fouled by the Argentine midfielder.

The incident was described by Spurs boss Martin Jol as a "harmless nibble," but Defoe's actions were strongly criticised and Sports minister Richard Caborn called for his behaviour to be examined by the FA.

The FA decided not to take any action because referee Steve Bennett had already cautioned Defoe.

The England striker is now determined to put the incident behind him and wants to focus on adding to his goal tally, which rose above 100 career goals during Wednesday's 5-0 Carling Cup victory over MK Dons.

"I just want to play football and score goals, everybody knows that," said Defoe.

"I am a professional person and a passionate player. When I get on the pitch I just want to win every game."
