BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks That Advertise On CNN by olofofo(m): 8:29pm On Jul 04, 2008
I have listened to all contributions and it seems to reflect the state of our nation, in spite of all the rot, with the kind of minds Nigerians have, it is only a question of time before things get better for Nigerians, with or without banks and goverments. anyway, since when has the bank ever giving a hoot about the average Nigerian, not with interest rate arround 20-25%.

one fact you guys fail to mention is that these bank are doing more than advertise on cnn. they are sponsoring programmes, INSIDE AFRICA etc and putting plenty money in AOL TIME WARNERS account. for as long as out leaders fail to realize that the trick to helping this country is right here in nigeria through serious tech transfer. we will not go anywhere. there's som much to be done here yet goverment is importing rice, advetising on cnn and going to germany for health care, i beg Niger dey turn my Bele.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by olofofo(m): 4:47pm On Jun 11, 2008
@justx24

yes i can track the satellite but the signal strength is like 38-40 percent, it can only receive about 15 channels, the frequencies containing mbc2 and the rest won't turn green.

Greetings to both the Noobs and the Gurus in the house.

I got really interested in this whole FTA and i must admit it is quite addictive. i got me a 2.4 pan dish and intended motorizing it for nilesat, I have called two installers, A Nigerian and a Malian, they both tried but were very unsuccessful with frequencies that really matter, By the way, i stay in satellite town, lagos. so before i finally dispose of this dish, since it damn too Big and can not achieve the desired result, i need to know if there's any Magic that can be done. I have been told the only way to get nilesat is to get a 3m Fibre dish.

thank you for your anticipated response.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Free To Air by olofofo(m): 8:57am On Apr 28, 2008
dish for reception plus either c band or KU band lnb for reception. you can also chose to motorie it so that you will have access to many satellites. this will involve you buying a jack and motorizer. u will probably need to pay a professional to install it for you. Bros no be small thing! but it's worth it if you are a DIY(do it yurself) geek like myself.

Feesha:
Thanks 4 your comprehensive tips. Please any idea on how to get xp drivers for HP 530 laptop?
am guessing you have a one of those new HP 530 laptops with vista installed and you are looking at dual booting to have windows XP on it, well a word of advice, the extra space yo have is for recovery and once you delete install Xp you might have problem recovering your system in case of a crash, i will advice that you create your recovery CD first before you do anything.

you can get the drivers you require from the following link Free of Charge:

just chose your operating system and you are on your way.

ComputersComprehensive Tips On Extending Your Laptop's Battery Life by olofofo(op): 5:55pm On Nov 04, 2007
1. Defrag regularly - The faster your hard drive does its work - less demand you are going to put on the hard drive and your battery. Make your hard drive as efficient as possible by defragging it regularly. (but not while it’s on battery of course!) Mac OSX is better built to handle fragmentation so it may not be very applicable for Apple systems.

2. Dim your screen - Most laptops come with the ability to dim your laptop screen. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.

3. Cut down on programs running in the background. Itunes, Desktop Search, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life. Shut down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.

4. Cut down external devices - USB devices (including your mouse) & WiFi drain down your laptop battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your laptop battery.

5. Add more RAM - This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory. Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most applicable if you do need to run memory intensive programs which actually require heavy usage of virtual memory.

6. Run off a hard drive rather than CD/DVD - As power consuming as hard drives are, CD and DVD drives are worse. Even having one in the drive can be power consuming. They spin, taking power, even when they?re not actively being used. Wherever possible, try to run on virtual drives using programs like Alcohol 120% rather than optical ones.

7. Keep the battery contacts clean: Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your battery more efficient.

8. Take care of your battery - Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory effects)

9. Hibernate not standby - Although placing a laptop in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.

10. Keep operating temperature down - Your laptop operates more efficiently when it’s cooler. Clean out your air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner, or refer to some extra tips by LapTopMag.com.

11. Set up and optimize your power options - Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows control panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).

12. Don’t multitask - Do one thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email client run in the background and listening to your latest set of MP3’s, set your mind to one thing only. If you don’t you’ll only drain out your batteries before anything gets completed!

13. Go easy on the PC demands - The more you demand from your PC. Passive activities like email and word processing consume much less power than gaming or playing a DVD. If you’ve got a single battery charge - pick your priorities wisely.

14. Get yourself a more efficient laptop - Laptops are getting more and more efficient in nature to the point where some manufacturers are talking about all day long batteries. Picking up a newer more efficient laptop to replace an aging one is usually a quick fix.

15. Prevent the Memory Effect - If you’re using a very old laptop, you’ll want to prevent the ‘memory effect’ - Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries (which most laptops have) which do not suffer from the memory effect.

Bonus Tip #1: Turn off the autosave function. MS-Word’s and Excel’s autosave functions are great but because they keep saving regular intervals, they work your hard driver harder than it may have to. If you plan to do this, you may want to turn it back on as the battery runs low. While it saves battery life in the beginning, you will want to make sure your work is saved when your battery dies.

Bonus Tip #2: Lower the graphics use. You can do this by changing the screen resolution and shutting off fancy graphic drivers. Graphics cards (video cards) use as much or more power today as hard disks

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Jose Mourinho Sacked! ('Resigns') by olofofo(m): 12:32pm On Sep 20, 2007
I have alwys believed that Mourinho is a good coach but a bad Manager. Abromovic did not make his billions by being sentimental. he was always looking for  an excuse to let him Go.

Imagine spending so much money and having a team to die for yet he complained all through last season that he was not allowed to spend money. he was spared last season because at least he had two trophies. but come this season, the game has changed. almost all the teams went on a spending spree and were fortified to make sure it is not buiness as usual for the top four. the clubs goal is to win the Champions league 2 time over the next 3-6 years and it was really a bad start for him drawing at home with Rosenborg. it did not help matters the lat two premiership games had not gone well.

he is a good coach and he will soon get another gig. but the reality s that he lost a fanstastic chance in a team like chelsea with a owner who is true lover of the game. He should work on his managerial and people skills.

Hi gals and guys out there.

I do not know if HITV gets feedback form this forum or if there's a staff who is a member of this forum, but i have noticed a slight improvement over the past few days. first they added three new channels on the Terrestrial platform, CNBC, SKY NEWS and EURO SPORT NEWS and and some how they just advertised a loaded package of Sitcoms slated for transmission on HI MIX. E-entertainments is still not showing though

More commitments on their parts to solving a lot of the problems outlined in this thread will bring them More Friends than Enemies.

More Grease to Elbows for now.

Sister, My advise is simple, get him to say it all on one of those phone with call recording feature and then Play the blackmail game. that will guaranty 2 things.

1. if you want him off you back, then he will be off your back for good.
2. if you really want this promotion, then that is a sure ways of getting.
3. if you want to sleep with him and ensure that you get the promotion without hurting his Ego and then make sure it does not happen again.

I can give some pointers on how to make a cd recodring of the phone conversation for distribution.! grin

ComputersRe: Why Is My Laptop So Slow? Help! by olofofo(m): 2:31pm On Sep 09, 2007
Norton Antivirus is really not a good choice for any system, strictly speaking from experience. i advise you try either kapsersky or Bit defender. Although there might be some other reasons why it is slowing down. You will see a considerable increase in your system's response time. Virus or no Virus.

it will also help in you can download a program called hijackthis, try googling it. it is freeware. Do a system scan and Post the log here. I promise i can have your system up and running in no time. I can also give you a good deal on the latest Kaspersky Internet Security which is the best antivirus out there now. it shileds you from every harm on the internet and has a way of updating that you will hardly notice unike Norton Antivirus.
