Politics / Amnesty: Ex-militants Appeal To Buhari Not To Scrap Programme by oludashmi(f): 11:07am On Jun 05, 2015
Some Niger Delta ex-militants under the umbrella name of Justice Group, have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, not to scrap the on-going amnesty programme so as to keep their bodies and souls together.

Their leader, David Owhegbe, who spoke in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, said, they admit that the PDP government failed in their promises but mare very hopeful of the new Government of Change.

Owhegbe said any attempt to scrap the programme by the federal government, will affect their survival and daily living.

“Since the government of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has completely failed us and the nation in general in its 16 years rule, we were already thanking God when the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration came with the change slogan.

“We felt that relief had come to the masses of Nigeria and we have now been liberated from the bondage of ill administration, until we started hearing of the issue of scrapping the amnesty. If President Muhammadu Buhari goes ahead to scrap the amnesty programme, it means majority of us will die from starvation. We beg the president not to scrap it because it will adversely affect us and our families.”

Politics / Impeachment Over: Fayose Calls For Street Jubilation As APC Lawmakers End Tenure by oludashmi(f): 6:49am On Jun 05, 2015
The Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has called out his supporters to rejoice with him on the streets today over the expiration of the term of the 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, who had been at loggerheads to impeach him.

The APC lawmakers had on April 4, 2015 issued a notice of impeachment to Fayose, citing cases of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The lawmakers were, however, met with resistance as PDP members blocked all entry points into the state in order to avoid human and vehicular movement into the state.
Finally, as their tenure ended, Fayose called on citizens to jubilate withh him. “I want to thank the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members, commercial drivers and motorcyclists, market men and women and citizens of this state for their continued support for me while the face-off lasted.

“With the expiration of their tenure, there is relief for me and my administration, and it is now time to perform my duties as governor of the state. In view of my travail in the hands of the outgone lawmakers, reprieve has now come to my government and I can now feel like a governor.

“By tomorrow, Friday, June 5, (today) I shall be embarking on a town procession in Ado Ekiti to thank my people for their support. I want you to meet me at Fajuyi Park where I am going to commence the procession and move around to give glory to God and humanity.” Fayose said.

Nairaland / General / Photos: Wicked Father Sells Two-year-old Son For N450k by oludashmi(f): 5:13am On Jun 05, 2015
A 29-year-old man, Kanayo Awurum, who resides in Egbe, Ikotun area of Lagos, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for selling his son for N450,000.

Kanayo sold the boy to three women – Nkechi Obi, Cecilia Nwatu and Gladys Nwobodo, in Port Harcourt but lied to his wife, Kelechi that he took their 2 years old son, Samuel, to stay with his relative in Port Harcourt.

When interrogated, he said his friend, Emmanuel, who is still at large, advised him to sell off his son when he had financial difficulties.

He said, “I met Kelechi in our secondary school days in 2005. It was in 2010 that we started living together. In December 2012, she gave birth to Samuel. We were then living in Owerri, Imo State. I was working as a painter and also acted in movies. I was an upcoming actor so I was not well paid.

“From 2014, I started to have financial difficulties, and I wanted to come to Lagos to hustle. The idea to sell my child came in March 2015 when I finally decided to travel to Lagos. It was a friend, Emmanuel, who linked me to the women. I asked him to lend some money to me and he said I should use what I had to get what I wanted.

“I did not tell my wife that I wanted to sell our child. I lied to her that one of the women who came was my elder sister in Port Harcourt and our son was going to stay with her. My wife did not like the idea, but I convinced her that it was for our good.

“So, when we came to Lagos, we rented an apartment on Oluwaseyi Street in the Egbe area of Lagos. I was paid N450,000 for the boy. That was what I used to pay for the rent.”

28 years old Kelechi however told her own side of the story, “Samuel was two years and two months old when Kanayo said he was taking him to stay with his sister in Port Harcourt. In April, he went to Owerri for a painting work and promised that his sister would bring Samuel on a visit.

“On the day he promised, no one showed up. He also failed to come back to Lagos when he promised. I then told our landlord and one of his friends in Lagos, called Coach. Then, they agreed to trick my husband to come back home.

“When he arrived, they began to ask him questions and he later confessed that the boy was not actually with his relative. They went to report the matter at the Ikotun Police Division. That was how he was arrested.”

Politics / Jonathan: I Was Scared, I Thought Bayelsa People Would Boo Me by oludashmi(f): 2:05am On May 30, 2015
The immediate past president of Nigeria, Jonathan Goodluck said he is still in shock over the king of reception put in place to celebrate him back to Bayelsa state.

Jonathan said he thought Bayelsa people would boo him but he is surprised at his welcome ceremony. He said he opted for a quiet return but the state governor had insisted that it would be a grand ceremony.

He also told his people how he would use the remaining part of his life to peace building across the country.

“I thank all of you here and my brothers and sisters outside who cannot come in because of the size of the hall, Sometimes when you are exposed to some high offices and you finish serving, you are even afraid of going back home. Because in one way or the other you will feel that you did not satisfy the people.

“Sometimes at the late hour it dawns on you that you could have done that, you could have done that, you failed to do this you, failed to do that. Sometimes you begin to fear whether the people that came to receive you, will they curse you, will they hoot at you?”

“I really don’t have anything to say. The only thing I can do is to thank all Bayelsans, all Ijaw people, all people from the South South, and indeed all Nigerians for giving me the privilege,” he said.

“Sometimes when I step back, I used to say that probably if I had stayed back in Bayelsa I’d have been more useful to the people. But vacating the seat here gave the opportunity for others and they have done wonderfully well. So this period from 1999 till date, my people Bayelsans and Nigerians have given me rare opportunity to serve. First as governor of the state, vice president and president of the country.”

Politics / Jonathan Releases N5b To Buy Stoves For Northern Rural Women by oludashmi(f): 4:07am On May 26, 2015
The out-going President, Jonathan Goodluck, has released N5 billion out of the expected N9.2 billion for the purchase of 750,000 new stoves for the Northern rural women.

The project is expected to be inaugurated today in Abuja.

The Minister of Environment, Laurentia Mallam, during an inspection visit to the Velodrome at the National Stadium, Abuja, where some of the 750,000 stoves were being assembled, said the project will go a long way in discouraging desertification and the use of firewood in the rural areas of the North.

She said: “We started in the northern parts of the country because of the challenges we are facing there with the desert encroaching into the country and people still cut down trees.

“Now, the President wants it to spread throughout the country and so we have this project.

“The ministry has received N5 billion so far. You know when N9.2 billion was approved by the Federal Government last year, we told Nigerians that N9.2 billion has been approved by the Federal Government. But so far, N5 billion has been released to the ministry.

“We have given the contractor 15 per cent, which is N1.3 billion. That is what we have released to the contractor and we still have N3.7 billion in the ministry’s account.”

Nairaland / General / I Wish I Could See My Wife’s Face – Cobhams Asuquo by oludashmi(f): 4:30am On May 17, 2015
Cobhams Asuquo, the visually impaired award winning producer and songwriter, in an interview shared light into how he dated and married his wife, Ojuolape. He said he will be most excited to see his wife’s face even if it’s for one day. His wife also said she wish he could see some nice things when narrating them to him.

How long have you known each other?
Cobhams: I have known her for about 13 years and still counting.

Ojuola: We met in 2001 but we didn’t start dating until 2009. I was 18 years old and about to go to college in the United States of America when our paths crossed.

Where you searching for love at the time you met?
Cobhams: I wasn’t searching for love when we met for the first time. I told her that I liked her but she did not think I meant what I said; maybe she felt I was just another fellow. We were both fresh out of high school and about to get into the university. When I realised she did not think I was sincere, I went into other relationships where I did not find fulfillment. I decided to come back to her and it was a hard chase. I told her I was going to be a rich miserable bachelor if she didn’t accept to date me. I told her my mind was made up and I wasn’t going to marry someone else if she didn’t accept my proposal. I had to exercise a lot of patience until she had my time.

Why did you not give in easily to his proposal?
Ojuola: When we met, I wasn’t ready to date; I just wanted to be his friend. He was and still is that brother I never had. He was my best friend and as the years went by, we maintained our friendship even though I was in the US and he was in Lagos. Over the years, I soon realised my heart was drawn towards him and he resumed the chase. Like he said, he went into other relationships. Eventually, we decided to date and later got married.

How did you propose to her?
Cobhams: I did it the conventional way; I went on my knees, asked her to marry me and slipped the ring on her finger.

Did you nurse any fears that she might turn down your proposal?
Cobhams: Yes, I was scared because I wasn’t too sure of her response. When you are really in love, you don’t walk around thinking because you are the man, a woman would readily want to get married to you.

You are Efik and she is Yoruba…
Cobhams: My wife and I are open-minded persons and do not do things based on tribal differences. As far as we are concerned, we are both from one tribe and speak one language, which is the language of love. We show concern and empathy to other people. In marriage, you define your own language and we are excited that we are from different tribes. We hope our children can learn to speak our languages.

Do you sometimes wish you could regain your sight even for a day?
Cobhams: Yes, I would love to regain my sight even if it is for one day just to see my wife’s face. That is one of the things that would make her happy.

Do you ever wish he had his sight just to see what you look like?
Ojuola: No, I don’t and I have never wanted him to have his sight for the reason you mentioned. If I ever want him to have his sight, it is because I wish he can see more of everyday things. For instance, if I am narrating an incident to him or if there is something really nice I want to show him, at times like that I wish he could see. Because he is my gist partner, I often wish he can see the expression on my face when we are talking.

Nairaland / General / Capital Punishment! Saudi Arabia Behead Five Foreigners by oludashmi(f): 4:51pm On May 04, 2015
The Saudi Press Agency has disclosed that 5 foreigners were beheaded today in Saudi Arabia for murder and robbery. Their nationals are 2 Yemenis, a Chadian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese.

In a statement, the interior ministry said the men were put to death in the Red Sea city of Jeddah.

They were identified as Yemenis Khaled Fetini and Ibrahim Nasser, Hassan Omar from Chad, Eritrean Salem Idriss and Abdel Wahhab Abdel Maeen from Sudan.

They were all convicted of killing an Indian guard at a business and stealing money from the safe.

This act contributes to what Amnesty International has called a “macabre spike” in the kingdom’s executions.

Their beheadings bring to 78 the number of locals and foreigners executed in Saudi Arabia this year, compared with 87 for all of last year, according to AFP tallies. Normally one or two people are executed at a time.

Nairaland / General / Police Shot Kidnapper Dead As He Picked N3m Ransom by oludashmi(f): 4:48am On Apr 24, 2015
A suspected kidnapper, Niyi Omosola, was shot dead by the police in the Epe area of Lagos while trying to pick a N3 million ransom requested from the family of their 62 years old captive, Kudirat.

Reports say that Kudirat, a businesswoman, was inspecting the construction work at a petrol station she owned in Elemoro, Ajah area, when Omosola led a team of kidnappers and took her away.

The kidnappers later contacted her family and demanded N50 million. But after a lot of negotiation, they both agreed at N3 million.

Punch learnt on Wednesday that Kudirat’s brother, who had been communicating with the gang, took the ransom to an agreed hideout in the Epe area but a team of operatives led by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Commander, Abba Kyari, trailed him to the hideout.

After collecting the ransom, Omosola noticed the police and opened fire on them but when he realised he was outnumbered, he tried to escape on a motorcycle, and the policemen shot him.

He said, “The kidnappers are a notorious gang. They had conducted several operations in the area. In the latest incident, they demanded N50m initially, but when the family could not produce the amount, they finally agreed to N3m. They also arranged where the place of meeting would be in the Epe area.

“The police trailed the brother, who was taking the money to Epe, where Omosola was waiting. Immediately he collected the ransom, he suspected that policemen were around and he began to shoot sporadically. He got on a motorcycle and was riding off when he was gunned down. He did not die immediately.”

The injured Omosola then led the SARS operatives to a bush between Epe and Ijebu Ode, where the Kudirat Kudirat was rescued alive.

Before they arrived the scene, Omosola’s gang members had reportedly fled the place and Omosola eventually died from the gunshot injuries.

Politics / Osun Govt May Stop Free Feeding Of School Children by oludashmi(f): 4:32am On Apr 24, 2015
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state, has set up a nine-member committee to review the free feeding of primary school pupils, free health programme for children and the elderly, in the state.

The committee is made up of permanent secretaries in the state and a level 17 officer, who is a director.

After the review exercise, parents may be asked to pay a token to support the government or it may be cancelled.

This new development may not be unconnected with the government’s plans to save some money for payment of salaries of civil servants and to carry out developmental projects in the state.

It is said that the state government has not been able to pay workers salaries in the past 6 months, a development it blames on dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.

It would be recalled that the Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye-Tomori, said the “school feeding meals cost government of the State of Osun N3.6bn annually.”

Nairaland / General / Church Kidnap: 3yr-girl Lured With Gala Re-united With Parents by oludashmi(f): 5:08am On Apr 21, 2015
Oluwabunmi Ajelero, a 3-year-old girl lured and kidnapped with the popular sausage, Gala, in their church premises, has been re-united with her parents.

Oluwabunmi was said to be playing with her friends in the premises of their Surulere Baptist Church, Ojuelegba Road, Lagos, on Sunday April 19th, when two unidentified men pretended to be members of the church and cajoled her to come for Gala and abducted her.

After she was taken away via a motorcycle, one of her friends who was said to have advised her against going for the trick, quickly rushed to the church to give account of what had happened.

As at Monday morning, Mr Oladapo Ajelero, the girl’s father, gave account of the ordeal, “It happened around 1pm on Sunday. The children finished their service before us and were playing on the church premises; Oluwabunmi was among them.

“Suddenly, one of her friends rushed in and said two men had lured and taken her away through the back of the church. Some people in the area said they saw her sitting between two men on a motorcycle. I learnt they escaped through Nathan Street.

“Our hearts are broken, we don’t know what to do anymore. They have called and instructed me to cooperate. I am still expecting their calls, but for now they have not asked for any ransom.”

A church member identified as Iya Tope, said, “It still appears to me like magic. I could not sleep. We have been praying over it since yesterday and I am sure she will come back to us safely.”

A security guard of the church, Mr. Moses Oyedeji, said, “I was on duty yesterday, but the children were playing at the back of the church. That was why I was not aware of the intrusion. It was when they had fled that her playmates said she was lured with Gala.”

A resident of the area, Simon Joseph, said he saw the girl, but he thought the men had come to the church for service. “I was waiting for a friend outside when I saw those two men with the girl on a motorcycle. I thought they were family and were going back home until a few minutes later when people rushed out from the church and started looking for the girl.”

The Lagos Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, however, said the girl has been rescued in Ogun state on Monday by a police team drawn from divisions in the state.

He said, “The child has been found in Abeokuta, Ogun State and reunited with her parents. Investigations are ongoing to track down the kidnappers.”

Politics / Buhari Says Corrupt Govt Worse Than Armed Robbery by oludashmi(f): 4:31am On Mar 19, 2015
The APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has compared a corrupt government to be worse than armed robbery.

Speaking at the APC’s Town Hall meeting on security, held at the Barcelona Hotel, Abuja, yesterday, first commended the armed forces for their recent successes over the Boko Haram, and explained that the safety and welfare of Nigerians should be the primary purpose of government and could be better pursued and achieved when the right government is in place.

Buhari said, “I believe that a bad and corrupt government is a much danger to national security as armed robbers, kidnappers and terrorists. I want to commend our armed forces for their recent successes over the Boko Haram.

“The total security concept reflects directly on improving the quality of the lives of our people and rebuilding the economy.

“Even if we have the best police, we will not be able to guarantee total security as long as 53 per cent of our youths remain unemployed and 70 per cent of our people are living below the poverty line.

“These are all the issues that my party and myself are committed to. It is along this line that we have promised a regretting plan for the North East of Nigeria. It is based on ensuring that never again will our country experience the type of human tragedy currently going on in that part of the country.”

Politics / Prof. Pat Utomi Endorses Buhari For Presidency by oludashmi(f): 3:26am On Mar 19, 2015
Renowned Political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, has endorsed the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and urged Igbos and Nigerians to vote for Buhari in order to restore hope to Nigeria.

At the unveiling of a Pan-Igbo group, Igboekulie, in Lagos on Wednesday, Utomi said Buhari’s coming would be likened to what happened in the United States in 1981 when the Americans were fed up with the Jimmy Carter administration with inflation as high as 29%, but it took a 70 years old man, Ronald Reagan, to run for Presidency in the United States, to turn things around and revive the American spirit.

He said Igbos have been branded as people who sell their votes to the highest bidder and therefore, urged them to vote wisely in order to shed this reputation.

“I think Nigerians don’t have any alternative in the person of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. I refer to him from my writings as the Buhari ascendancy. That reminds me of what happened in the US when I lived there with President Ronald Reagan.

“We had one wonderful, nice guy called Jimmy Carter as President. Things went so awfully wrong. Inflation was 29 per cent.” he explained.

Foreign Affairs / 6-year-old Albino Boy’s Hand Hacked Off For Ritual In Tanzania by oludashmi(f): 4:40pm On Mar 11, 2015
6 years old Baraka Cosmas, an albino had an extremely horrible experience of life when some hired men invaded his parents home and hacked off his arm for ritual purpose in Tanzania, DailyMail reports.

The men even beat up Cosmas and his mother, Prisca Shaaban so badly that they were both hospitalised.

Cosmas’ case makes it the third in three months that such case is recorded against albonos in the country.

18-month-old Yohana Bahati was snatched from his home less than a month ago and his mutilated body was found a few days later, while 4-year-old Pendo Emmanuelle Nandi was taken at the end of December but has never been seen again.

The use of albino parts for ritual is believed to give them magical properties and said to bring wealth and luck.

Jonathan Beale, managing director of Standing Voice, a charity working to protect Tanzania’s albinos, says until these people are rooted out, government efforts to curb the attacks and killings are likely to have little impact.

“This most recent tragic attack serves to remind us that current responses from the government, police force and justice system are not sufficient and do not target the heart of this crisis.

“Sadly what we see from the government are measures which react to this crisis in a surface level fashion. We call for a criminal investigation beyond the hired assailant or witchdoctor, and the gathering of thorough evidence on those involved at higher levels of this absurd trade.

Nairaland / General / Incredible Video! Baby Says ‘hello’ At Just Seven Weeks Old by oludashmi(f): 3:35pm On Mar 11, 2015
It has remained a shocking moment after people watch baby Cillian McCann filmed by his mother Toni as he let out the ‘hello’ word at just 7 weeks old.

36 years old Toni, who has 3 older daughters Sophia 12, Ellie, 11 and Eva, eight, said that she knew other people would be shocked when they saw the film.

Toni said: “He was trying to speak for a while but that day I knew he was trying to say something. I’d read that babies communicate from a young age and to give them space to answer when you talk to them.

‘That was I was doing that day and because he was so alert and making such good eye contact I decided to video him. You can tell my total shock when he came out with “hello”. If I hadn’t have videoed it I’m sure people wouldn’t have believed me. I don’t think I would have believed it myself!

“After that he said it again to my daughter Eva although it wasn’t as clear. When he has been focused and interacting with me since that day I have been telling him “I love you” and I can see he is trying to copy that! I have three older girls and never experienced this with them although I think I probably just talked “at” them and didn’t give them space to respond.

‘From about five weeks old his little tongue would stick out when his dad was talking to him. I realise now he was trying to talk because that’s what he does in the video. And people have been very impressed by their talented son. ‘People’s reaction has been so lovely,’ said Toni.

“Lots of people have said it brightened their day. Lots of people say they can’t stop watching it. A girl I know said it is a perfect example of the love between mother and child! Some people don’t believe it’s real, that it’s been edited but on the whole most people love it. That is really lovely for me as there is so much bad in the world it’s great that my wee son is spreading some joy.”

Family / A 2 Day Old Baby Abandoned By The Roadside Named After Okoya-Thomas by oludashmi(f): 6:13am On Mar 11, 2015
A two-day old baby abandoned by the roadside on Sunday has been named after a late businessman and philanthropist, Molade Okoya-Thomas.

It was gathered that the baby was first sighted around 4pm at Marina, close to Wema Bank Plc. He was later picked up by a Good Samaritan who runs a non-governmental organisation in Lagos.

The baby, it was learnt, was subsequently taken to the family support unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Adeniji Adele Division. From there, he was on Monday handed over to the Lagos State Government who had since taken responsibility for the child.

Speaking on the incident, the President of Afribaby Initiative, Dr. Oscar Odiboh, the man who found the baby, explained that he got a call and acted promptly to save the baby.

He said, “I got a distress call on Sunday that a baby had been abandoned by the roadside at Marina. I left everything I was doing and rushed to the scene.

“While I was heading for the scene, I contacted the police and some medical personnel to be on standby. On getting there, I discovered that the baby was abandoned inside a kiosk. People were gathered and just watching, cursing the mother. Nobody dared to go near the baby. A few minutes after I got there, the police arrived and I was allowed to carry the baby. We took him to the station and I handed him over to the family support unit of the police at the Adeniji Adele Police Station.”

When asked on how he came about the name Okoya-Thomas for the baby, he said the whole idea was to immortalise the late philanthropist, who was passionate about child support.

He said, “Knowing that the police would transfer the baby to the appropriate government agency, and in order to create an identity for the baby, I decided to name him after Chief Okoya-Thomas.

“Coincidentally, I was wearing one of his burial attires on that day and the baby, who we have adjudged to be about two days old, might have been born the same day our he was buried,” he added.

A police officer in the family support unit of the station, where little Okoya-Thomas was taken to, told our correspondent that the baby was now with the Office of Youth and Social Development and asked our correspondent to direct his enquiries there .

An official in the office, who identified herself as Idowu, the Child Protection Officer, confirmed that the baby was brought on Monday and had been handed over to an orphanage.

When asked for the name of the orphanage Okoya-Thomas was transferred to, she said, “The baby is doing very well and has been transferred to an orphanage. Sorry I can’t tell you more than that for now.

“We have our procedure. Once a child is in government custody, we dont disclose information about that child.”

Nairaland / General / About 400 Buildings Wrecked As Windstorm Visits Lagos Streets by oludashmi(f): 5:02am On Mar 11, 2015
About 400 buildings have been wrecked, and thousands of residents homeless, after a windstorm destroys some streets at about 4.30pm on Monday, in Papa Ashafa/Dopemu in the Orile-Agege area of Lagos State.

Some of the affected streets include Abibatu, Opeifa, Fabowale, Kushoro, Opeolu, Bakare Opesha, Sura Ogunmakin, Igbayilola, Akintunde, Alafia, Sadiku, Ebun, Ayeni, Oyewole, Adewunmi Adebiyi, Oyewole Close, Oyewole Road and Alafia Close.

An Assembly of God Church building atop a residential building was uprooted away to another building opposite it.

Some residents gave account of their experience as the storm blew off their houses and rendered them homeless.

A trader, Mrs. Balogun Labake, said, “I saw the thing rolling towards us with full force. It pulled the bed from underneath us. As we were about running away, the force blocked us from going out. It destroyed all our property and damaged the roofing sheets.”

Mrs. Nike Olusanaya, a civil servant resident on Okubanjo Street said, “We have nowhere to stay again. We have been carrying our loads around and begging people to house us. The windstorm threw the ceiling of our room far away. I slept outside with my kids.”

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Ayeni Oluremi, said, “The incident happened exactly 4.30pm. The children closed from school at 4pm, and after that, they gathered outside.

“The school bus was coming to pick them in groups. There were still 12 of them remaining when it began to drizzle and suddenly, the asbestos of the school began to fall off. I took them inside. Just then, I saw the wind snapping the poles and tearing the cables apart.

“It was a few minutes after that that the school bus arrived to take them. The pole fell where we usually park the bus. It was God. We celebrated this morning and spent one hour on the assembly.”

Another private school, Al-Baraka Schools on Oshundairo Street had some parts of the buildings damaged, while a public primary school, Oyewole Primary School on Oyewole Road had its wall broken down while State Junior High School and Christfield Comprehensive College, both on Oyewole Road had their roofing sheets blown away.

A tailor living in the house where the church was, Mr. Segun Toyin, said, “There were five of us around that time. My four friends, who were outside, suddenly ran into the shop and said there was an earthquake. A few minutes later, the wind took off the building.”

Nairaland / General / My Father Dressed Me In A Wedding Gown And Raped Me by oludashmi(f): 11:07am On Feb 21, 2015
26-year-old Hollie Davey, from Essex has narrated how she tracked down her biological father having grown with an adopted parent. She expressed how her father dressed her in a wedding gown, put a ring on her finger and raped her for years.

Miss Davey said she was told by her adopted parent that her biological mother was late. She then decided to trace her real father when she was 13 but within weeks, he was raping her and calling her “Daddy’s special girl”.

Two months after moving in with him, her dad, Paul Davey, wore her a wedding gown and told her they should do the ‘mommies and daddies’ play.

Miss Davey said, “One day while I was reading a magazine dad started to run his fingers though my hair. Then he said, ‘You’re gorgeous, I can’t believe you’re my daughter. It made me feel uneasy. But I was desperate for dad to love me, so I told myself I was just being silly.”

“I thought it was strange being that I was almost 14, but I didn’t want to annoy my dad. He handed me a wedding dress and told me to put it on. I put it on and played along with him.

“He told me to pose on the bed so he could take some photos of me in the gown. It felt wrong but what could I do? Later that night I heard my bedroom door creak. Dad said, ‘I’ll sleep here tonight so I can be with my gorgeous daughter.

“But he started touching me. I told him to stop it and tried to pull away but he ignored me and carried on touching me and abusing me every night.”

One day, Paul drove her to the dessert, held her down at the passenger’s seat, tore her clothe and raped her severally. She didn’t know what warranted that but said “I thought he loved me.”

He later got home and wore the wedding gown on her again, thrust a silver ring on her wedding ring finger and said, ‘I want you to be my wife’.

Nairaland / General / Photos: This Flat Is For Blacks Only: Racist Campaign Against White Mum by oludashmi(f): 9:16am On Feb 21, 2015
24 years old Sammie Sunter, a mother of two, was shocked to her bone marrow when she found at her door, notes carrying, “This flat is for blacks only, so f*** off” and some other racist statement.

Just a few days after Sunter moved to Willenhall, she came out to see her door was covered with faeces and a letter posted through saying her home was “for black sisters and brothers”.

The note states that “Willenhall is black so f*** off”, while the word “Oyinbo” which is Nigerian slang for a white person, was also written and a gun drawn alongside.

Sunter said she has lived in Willenhall for 15 years and has never experienced anything like this before. She has found a new apartment and is getting ready to move in but explained how she has had to explain the situation to her 5-year old son, Oscar Rock.

“It’s just not acceptable. I said that it looked like whoever was responsible was African. He wanted to know why they hated us.

“He didn’t really understand. If we are equal what gives the person responsible the right to do that? I told him that whoever was responsible was going to get punished, but who knows if that will happen.

“These people make Willenhall out to be some sort of ghetto. They say it’s their area but it’s really not – there’s a little old white man living in the flat below. The whole point of this is that it’s not right. I’m not going to sit there and take it. I had to have a police escort away from my property and I knew I was being watched.

Nairaland / General / I Was A Victim Of Sexual Abuse And Didn’t Tell For 17 Years by oludashmi(f): 1:52pm On Feb 19, 2015
Anne Cleary grew up in a wealthy upstate New York suburb, the adored daughter of two hardworking professionals. She was popular, charming and a straight-A student. She was also the victim of sexual abuse beginning at the age of 4.

Her abuser was a trusted family member who was often left to care for her. He repeatedly fondled, molested and raped her. No one suspected a thing. Anne made it her job to pretend to be perfect on the outside to hide the fact that she was miserable and lost. She found the strength to push her abuser away when she was 12, but it would be another nine years before she told her secret.

The first thing he did was powder my butt, which doesn’t sound super sexual. Plenty of little kids get their diapers changed and bottoms powdered, which is exactly why it was so confusing. Progressively, it got worse. He fondled me, and showed me porn, which I certainly didn’t understand at such a young age. There was a lot of grabbing and touching — any time I was around. By the time I was 7, it had progressed to oral rape.

While it was happening, I would go limp. Some survivors talk about leaving their bodies — it’s called disassociation. I didn’t experience that, but I tried to numb myself as much as possible.

As the abuse progressed, he became more bold. It was no longer only behind closed doors. He would assault me when people were in the house — even in the next room. It’s like he knew I wasn’t going to say anything. He never threatened me not to tell, but I felt trapped. I didn’t feel like it would be OK to tell. I felt guilty, and I also felt like I had to protect other people. I was aware from a fairly young age that revealing this abuse would be very painful for other family members. So I kept it a secret.

I did try to hide. The times I did see him, I would put things up against my door so that he couldn’t get in or if he came into my room it would make a lot of noise. I wore extra clothes sometimes at night. I did things that were clearly not enough to stop it, but there were attempts to escape and not be left alone with him.

But I was left alone with him a lot. He was this older family member, 10 years older than me, so he could drive me to swim practice, take me to get lunch and babysit when my parents were out. I didn’t protest. I was a perfect victim in that regard. I never gave any indication that I was afraid or uncomfortable. I became an award-winning actress to conceal the truth.

It finally ended when I was 12. I remember every moment of that interaction like it was yesterday. He came into my room, came towards me and I pushed him. I said to him, “Never touch me again, you pervert.” And I watched him slowly slink away, like a snake.

Celebrities / Muna Ibekwe’s Sister Tells More About His Death by oludashmi(f): 2:34am On Feb 13, 2015
Speaking with Inside Nollywood during Muna Ibekwe’s burial on February 3rd, his step-sister, Chinwe Obiekwe said Muna was diagnosed of kidney failure but eventually before his year.

Below is the excerpt from the video…

“He was sick from last year October. It wasn’t a normal kidney failure. It was high BP that prompted his kidney failure. It did not give us time to do the transplant because it was his two kidneys that failed. And assuming it was a normal kidney failure, it’s supposed to be one kidney. My uncles were planning to come back to Nigeria and operate on him and do the transplant then he died on Sunday (Jan. 18th). Through out the one year he was sick, we were going for the dialysis ” Continue…

Asked why Muna had high BP, she said…
“Anybody can have high BP because of stress. It doesn’t mean family problem should prompt high BP, it comes with stress. He was taking his medicine but because he was always on set, in different locations, he didn’t have much time to drink his medicine properly.

Asked why Muna didn’t let his colleagues know he was sick and needed help, the sister said…
“Muna is from a home. He’s a private person. That he didn’t bring out what was wrong with him to the internet is because he’s a man and my family was ready to operate on him. You don’t have to come to internet and start telling people ‘my kidney failed. I need money to help myself. No. At times some problems come to you and you know this is a problem that can be sorted by your family. Had it been we were stranded, then we can start calling people to come and help us. That Muna didn’t tell people he was sick is because he’s a private person.

She said more. View remaining story plus video > here http://www.nigerianheadlines.com/muna-ibekwes-sister-tells-death/

Politics / Power-drunk Policeman Freed, Husband Re-arrested by oludashmi(f): 6:43am On Feb 12, 2015
A power-drunk policeman, Dada Ogunsanya, who tutored a couple severely in Lagos, has been freed while Ejeh Smith, one of the couple is being detained for another offense.

The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed that Ogunsanya had been released, saying his trial had ended but his rank was reduced from corporal to constable.

It would be recalled in December 2014, a couple Ejeh Smith and Grace, boarded a cab when Ogunsanya, a corporal attached to the Ikoyi division stopped the cab on a patrol mission.

And was said to have shone his torch on the passengers, but when the couple complained that the light was affecting them, Ogunsanya brought out Ejeh, hit him in the eye with his riffle and stepped on Grace’s stomach.

The case was still ongoing, when Ogunsanya was released, while Ejeh was detained for receiving a stolen keg of diesel.

It was gathered that a security man in the next compound had tried to sell a 25-litre keg of diesel to Ejeh but Ejeh told him he didn’t have money but offered to sell it on his behalf.

Unknown to him, the security man stole the fuel from his employer, which was later detected through a CCTV camera. And policemen from the Lion Building division arrested him after the security man mentioned his name.

Grace said the police in the Lion Building granted bail to her husband, but as Ejeh was going home, when policemen from the Ikoyi Division surfaced and said the complainant had demanded that the matter be transferred to the division.

Grace said, “After we paid N15, 000 for Smith’s bail in the Lion Building division, the police said he should be taken to the Ikoyi Police Division, that the owner of the case wanted it transferred there.

“The lawyer representing the complainant wanted to withdraw the case, but the police said the case should go on.

“The police then asked my husband to accept that he is a criminal, so that they can rubbish whatever we said they did to us. They also invited some journalists to interview him.”

Nairaland / General / Must Read: Fake Pastor Arrested Over N10m Fraud In Lagos by oludashmi(f): 3:06am On Feb 11, 2015
One Pastor Chibuzor Nnaegbo, is currently in the police net at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, for defrauding 4 businessmen off about N10 million in Lagos.

Chibuzor’s style was to use a coded MTN line which appears as an international line, which he used to call his victims in pretense to having issues in Israel where he was trying to set up a church.

Chibuzor, whose phone was full of pornographic photos when arrested said he used his victims money to sow seeds at Winners Chapel and RCCG camp. His tricks came to an end when one of his victims suspected his incessant call and was tracked and caught at Igando.

“My problem started while I was pastoring a church in Onitsha; I read a book written by Bishop Oyedepo on how to sow seed. After reading the book I sold all the church properties and sowed the proceeds in another church.

“When I relocated to Lagos, I started collecting money from people, deceiving them that I am in Israel. I told them that I had issues trying to set up a church and needed money to grow the ministry.

“I used all the money I collected from them to sow seed in Redemption camp. I collected N1.9 million from one of the victims, N1.255 million from another, N2.5 million from the third and N900,000 and a Toyota Camry from the fourth victim. I sowed the Camry as seed in Winners Chapel in Otta.

“I was arrested through my younger brother who I sent to collect money from one of the victims, unknown to me that he had discovered that he was being defrauded and had reported to Ilemba Divisional Police, and they arrested me.

“Concerning the porn videos that were found in my phone, I watch the pornography videos on my phone whenever I have sexual urge because I don’t have sexual intercourse with women”. Chibuzor confessed.
