TravelRe: Places Of Interest to visit In Lagos Pls by OmoAlata(op): 7:27am On Aug 20, 2010
Dis Guy:
How unfair of Omo Alata, not to gist us with feedback others might be planning something similar!!

What/where did you enjoy, what/where did you discover, What/where to Avoid
To be honest, all my plans were thrown out of the water!!! Lagos became more of a family affair in that most of what we did was visit family members who hadn't seen me in years and never seen my kids!!! I'd tell the children that we were going to visit aunty so-and-so and that we'd only spend 15mins; we'd end up spending 4 hours there shocked by which time it would be too late to visit anywhere else. The kids were livid and bored but it had to be done grin Another aunty had relocated to Abeokuta. It took all day to get there and back shocked

We did manage to take them to the barbeach though but we all came away with black tar all over our feet shocked and area boys demanding cash here and there (Nigeria we hail thee) grin

At Ghana we took them to visit their dad's family but it was just at one place for all of them so we got that out of the way quickly then we went to the Zoo, museums - palace and army, Labadi Beach (much cleaner & more entertainment, sorry wink ) and many more entertaining places.

So, the kids said they enjoyed Ghana more than Nigeria cry
TravelHotels To Avoid In Nigeria by OmoAlata(op): 5:32pm On Aug 19, 2010
Is there a thread about this somewhere?  If not, can we start one please  wink

I stayed at the Rita Lori Hotel in Surulere.  The reception area, lobby area, bar area, dining area I give 5 stars.  The kids were like, "Wow!!"

Wait until you get into the rooms  shocked Unbelievable!! The bathroom must be from the 60s or something - the door needs to be torn down and burnt - water regularly went.   Our window was held together with a dirty rag  shocked  It is such a contrast to the first impression you get when you walk in  huh

They tell you at reception when you are booking in that you get free breakfast then when you go downstairs in the morning, they tell you it is one free breakfast per room and it's only tea and toast  grin

As if that weren't enough (and not the hotel's fault, I hastily add), there's an aladura church opposite and they had night vigils everynight - the shouting, drumming, praying - say no more, say no more.

Would I stay there again?  NO  shocked

They will tell you, you have something to hide hence you "paid" not to be searched.[/quote]I'm pretty sure the checks at Heathrow was sufficient wink

Have You Ever Felt Embarrassed As A Nigerian?
Nah!! I laugh along with them grin
TravelRe: Demeji Bankole Offloaded From London Bound Flight by OmoAlata(f): 8:35pm On Aug 17, 2010
justwise:
People like you make me sick, why paying for something that supposed to be free? Why do u have to pay N500 to avoid been searched? What have you got to hide?
I'm on the fence here justwise embarassed When we recently went to Ghana, we had 11 suitcases between the 7 of us. All the checks had been done at Heathrow etc but when we landed at Kotoka Airport, the immigration officer demanded everyone open their bags for checks before we could leave the airport. I mean, whatever for? We'd just landed huh So hubby bunged the guy some cash and he marked our bags so we were able to get through. We had nothing to hide but the sheer inconvenience of opening up 11 suitcases compiled with a screaming hungry baby and tired kids (6 hours flight and we landed in the morning), it was just the easiest thing to do. Sorry

agabaI23:
Anyway why do you even have British passport since you were born in UK and you have lived here all your life?
huh Lived where all my life huh

Ranoscky:
Omo Alata, no dey paragulate!

this was the reason why i asked u if u have gon there with your parents according to what u said on your past post comment "I told her my parents are Nigerians but she wouldn't budge."
if u don't have a solid proove that u'r a flygerian then, how do u think the nigerian embassy is gon give u a flygerian pasport to fly back to nigerian? don't u know your case is just lyk other blacks out there (maybe not even a flygerian) that'll just walk in to a nigerian embassy and say they flygerians without a solid proove to back 'em up that they'r truely flygerians? so don't get mad at me for asking u dat question a'ight? wink
But why on bladdie earth would a Non Nigerian claim to be a Nigerian? shocked

Anyway, they could have conducted the interview in the yoruba language. I can speak yoruba and some kadan-kadan hausa grin
TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries by OmoAlata(f): 10:31pm On Jul 18, 2010
Then maybe you should apply for a tourist one. During your 'visit', buy the stuff you want to take back with you and pay excess at the airport if the weight exceeds your allowance grin

Good luck (what type of goods are you planning to buy/sell - just being nosy)
CultureRe: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by OmoAlata(f): 10:27pm On Jul 18, 2010
Ranoscky:
have u gone to the nigerian embassy in UK with your parents?
What on earth for? huh

And I most definitely don't claim to be british (even though I am grin ). I say I'm Nigerian when asked, but when the Nigerian High Commission don't accept me as a "proper" Nigerian, what's a girl supposed to do, huh? huh
CultureRe: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by OmoAlata(f): 7:22pm On Jul 18, 2010
Ranoscky:
Omo Alata, when u came to nigeria, what pasport did u use when going back to UK?
My British one (which I got as a child) which I then renewed at the British Embassy in Kaduna wink
CultureRe: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by OmoAlata(f): 7:19pm On Jul 18, 2010
agabaI23:
You have to show a passport if you are Nigerian. The fact you are Nigerian does not mean you would not have a passport esp in a foreign land.
I DO have a passport, just not a Nigerian one wink (which is why we went to apply for visas wink )
CultureRe: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by OmoAlata(f): 7:17pm On Jul 18, 2010

E ma tan ra yin!

so long as your paleh n maleh na naija citizen, if dem like make dem born u for pluto, Ogbeni, u'r a NIGERIAN!!! finito!
So why didn't the Nigerian High Commission, London allow me to invite my husband to Nigeria? I went there to get visas for us as we are visiting soon and the lady there would not accept an invitation from me because I do not have a Nigeria passport. I told her my parents are Nigerians but she wouldn't budge. Perhaps you need to re-educate them wink

So how come a friend of ours had to take the Nigerian High Commission to court? huh

He was born in London here of Nigerian parents. He went to live in Nigeria when he was very young and completed his schooling there before coming back to the UK. He went to the Nigeria High Commission to apply for Nigerian passport and was refused. The guy was refused shocked

He can speak Yoruba very well and has a Nigerian name, no doubt. So, he took them to court and won grin

As a visitor to the UK, how was it possible to access the National Health service? huh My uncle, a British Citizen, went to Nigeria on holiday and started courting a lady who eventually fell pregnant. He brought her over when she was about 7 months gone. Despite my uncle being a citizen, she was refused NHS treatment for the rest of her pregnancy and Uncle had to pay privately. He wasn't too pleased grin
