TravelRe: The End Of Virgin Sorry Air Nigeria by OmoAlata(f): 11:56am On Oct 01, 2010
We travelled Air Nigeria from Ghana to Lagos. Everyone was sweating profusely onboard https://bestsmileys.com/hot/3.gif They made the announcement that the A/C had broken down and they would fix it. Thank God it was just an hour's flight.

Took the same airline back to Ghana. https://bestsmileys.com/hot/3.gif again. Still no A/C. The first time I've ever been on a plane and been hot tongue
TravelHow Do I Go About Inviting Sister & Child To The Uk? by OmoAlata(op): 11:49am On Oct 01, 2010
My sis lives in Nigeria. She has a 1 year old daughter. Her partner (they weren't married) has decided to call time on their relationship.

I want her (& her daughter) to start a new life over here in the UK. How do I go about it please? Thanks

Ps. And before anyone says "how did you get to the UK"; "You should know the procedure", blah! blah!! Blah!!!, I was born here so didn't go through all that rigmarole. When I invited my husband over, he was living in Ghana, it was a settlement/spousal visa and he was given it on that basis so only bought a one-way ticket grin

As you can see, my sister's case is clearly different. On what terms would I invite her over and would she be able to reside here? Thanks again.

A guy I knew over here travels to Ghana often to visit the business he set up and his family.

He went out there a couple of months ago and was poisoned. He died sad (Young guy in his 40s). He was killed because they want to collect the business from him.

His was poison though and not juju so probably not the story you are after. Just pray and cover yourself. You'll be OK. I recently went to Naija with my husband and children. We survived grin

TravelRe: My Sister Friend Want To Visit Nigeria, What Are The Docs And Step Necessary by OmoAlata(f): 5:40pm On Sep 02, 2010
Fogman:
More advice welcome
My husband's friend wrote him an invitation letter (they wouldn't accept an Invitation letter from me as I don't hold a Nigerian passport). The friend lives over here but stated in the letter that he would be responsible for my husband's upkeep throughout his stay in Nigeria huh He attached a copy of his Nigerian passport to it. This was enough to get a Visa.

You can put the address of ANY hotel in Nigeria on the form, whether you are staying there or not. This should suffice.

i know people who have been in london for 20 years and their bank account is empty. very hard to save in london unless you are earning 50 pounds an hour
Not necessarily. I only work part-time ie. 3 days a week, I have 5 kids, not on benefits as my husband works full-time so we don't qualify (I've checked) but by the grace of God, we can still save monthly grin
TravelRe: Nigeria Embassy London Worst Mgmt Thread - Outdated! by OmoAlata(op): 7:04pm On Aug 29, 2010
martsy:
I am a Nigerian presently residing in London and hold a british passport. I would like to know the present proceduces for obtaining a visa with a british passport. My last visit to the Nigerian Embassy was in 1999, 2000 and 2001 to obtain a visa to go to Nigeria and I had no problem in obtaining a visa as I had to buy a postal order. Have the procedures changed. I do read horrible stories about the Nigerian Embassy which makes me frightened. So please, could any Naija out there with a british passport state out the procedures for obtaining a visa. Also, is it best to arrive there early in the morning?

Thanks.
Things have changed immensely (for the better) grin I printed off the form online, filled it in, took it with any docs they requested and bought the postal order. If you have a Nigeria-sounding name etc, you could get away not needing an invitation letter (otherwise get one from somebody before you go there as the lady grudgingly accepted I am a Nigerian after some questions like where's my mum from etc) smiley You can also buy postal order from there but I bought mine at the postoffice. I went first thing and only took 20mins from the time I got in to submit my docs. Got visa the following week. Good luck.

If your younger brother cannot write in proper English (rather than text speak), then I doubt he can get a student visa to the UK. It is easy to get carried away with text speak, but when he starts to look for a job and cannot spell properly, he would say the world is against him or better still put it down to tribalism/racism.
That's not entirely true. Most of the white people over here are very very poor in the written English. Thank God for spellchecker grin They can speak it properly (afterall it's their language) but when it comes to writing it shocked A manager I worked with once, gives his report to Africans to check for him before he submits it. God dey grin

TravelRe: Hotels To Avoid In Nigeria by OmoAlata(op): 9:15am On Aug 21, 2010
The staff were so arsey - "sorry this is the reception area, you can't talk here" (when a guest came to visit me); "sorry you can't stand infront of the hotel, move to the side"; "sorry this is the lobby area, you can't eat here".  FFS!!!!

They delivered all this politely and with a smile, I must say  lipsrsealed

I wish they'd just spent so much money on the rooms also.

Without waving my stern finger grin , you will have to make a bigger effort next time to make sure that they enjoy themselves; its their holiday too & not just mummy's LOL

If they feel that they dont have good experiences in Nigeria, then they may not want to return; of course you can force them when they are young but as they grow older they may refuse to go.
Never a truer word spoken smiley

Holiday in nigeria is mainly a family affair, except you have been visiting regularly or perhaps wants to visit another state/town entirely!

Hope the next one will be better now you got this one out of the way
That's what I've promised the kids. I said the next holiday to Lagos would be more entertaining for them as we won't need to go visit all those aunties again grin
