Yes because you are not residing over here at the moment. You will have to move to the UK before you can invite someone here. I don't see how possible or feasible it would be for you to invite someone to live in the UK whilst you are resident in Canada since you will be responsible for the person i.e. housing, financially etc. British Embassy will ask you for proof of housing and some household bills in your name - electricity, gas, council tax, tenancy agreement etc - how will you be able to provide these if you don't live here?

Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this. Good luck though

Really? I thought the girl would have to go to Nigeria with the man, marry there, then she would apply for him. I know that's what happened to someone I knew. He spent denden money as the girl kept on demanding and demanding and he didn't want to be stuck back out there

You can get help with your fear of flying. I believe hypnosis works. The fear of flying can be very debilitating and not irrational at all. Good luck.

My mum and sisters live in Lagos so they'll be taking us around. I just wanted to have some ideas as because they live there, they may not know any touristy places

I think it may prove a tad difficult. From what I can recall when I invited my husband over to Britain, I had to show them a letter from my employer, payslips (to prove I can maintain him until he got a job), they checked to see that my accommodation was adequate (I had a 2-bedroom flat at the time; a friend of mine's aplication was turned down because she only had a 1-bedroom flat - I mean, how many rooms do a husband and wife need? )

If you are not resident here, I doubt they will grant you your wish (but I could be wrong so don't take my word as gospel).

Why not relocate now and settle over here for maybe 6 months then start your process?

Can someone please confirm if they check thedate you have on your appointment letter.
I have an interview scheduled for september, but I was unable to change it to an earlier date.
So I want to go there next week and try if I can.

I went back there this morning to submit my visa application and passports (I only waited 20mins before my number was called). Anyway, in response to the above question, there were some people in front of me who were there for their interview. They said they had booked online etc and given today as their date. When they got to the front, they showed the man in front of the door their docs but he directed them to another man standing at the side. The guy in front was trying to explain to him that he had been given today as his interview date but the man still said he should see the other guy so I don't know if this is to verify the interview date or for summat else.

justwise, isit true they dont really look at your interview date at the door in the morning on the day of your appointment

You can try. Go there with all your docs. Make sure everything is intact. Once you are in, you get given a ticket. Fingers crossed

the process is different from applying for a passport but still better than previous years

The illegals who work over here use someone else's details and National Insurance to work. Their weekly/Monthly pay is paid into this person's account.

If you are lucky, the person will withdraw it every week/month and give it to you.
If you are semi-lucky, the person will take a share of it weekly/monthly.
If you are very unlucky, the person will keep ALL your salary leaving you with nothing and you can't do jack about it

The thread above is now outdated, I'm pleased to say

After reading the thread above, I was trembling and physically shaking before I went to the Nigerian embassy, London

I joined a queue before opening hours. We all stood quietly apart from a quick "morning, morning" and asking if we were in the correct queue

Then the doors were opened and a man started letting people in. You had to show your documents at the door before you were allowed inside. Some people had nothing so were refused entry. Some said they wanted to apply for emergency passports but still weren't let in - he told them to apply online (one woman said she wanted to travel next week and had already bought her ticket) - she was still refused entry "go and apply online".

I got inside and was given a ticket (there's ticketing machine there). You get given the ticket for the purpose of your visit. I was 607. The visa application machine started at 600 and there were 2 counters dealing with this. I was called to the counter within 30mins (I went there laden with newspapers and books and water as I thought I would be there the whole day). The airconditioning was on full blast - I almost asked them to turn it down (the old thread said the place was very hot and someone passed out. If anyone had passed out on the day I went there, it was because they were cold) lol.

There were about 8 counters (the staff sat behind a glass screen). They pressed a button and a voice will call you to the counter "Can ticket number 1 please go to counter 2 please"; "Can ticket number 601 please go to counter 4 please". They pressed it at least 3 times before moving on to the next ticket number (no crazy woman yelling - maybe she had been sacked )

I asked a lady sitting next to me if she came there often as she looked like some kind of agency woman (file with lots of passports and application forms). She said she was there daily. I told her that I was dreading visiting the place as I had heard lots of nasty things. She said it was bad about a year ago but improved since they fixed the place up, installed a screen and ticketing machine.

So, there you go newbies to the Nigerian Embassy. No more fear

I couldnt' get the visa as the lady at the counter said my husband needed an Invitation letter from someone with a Nigerian passport. She wouldn't accept my invitation of him despite being Nigerian (because I don't hold a Nigerian passport). Fair enough. So I am going back next week

And to the cynics out there, I DO NOT WORK FOR THEM. Tufiakwa!!!

There ARE talks of immigration rule changes by the present government so you lot have to get in quick. Good luck.

We'll be bringing the kids to Nigeria (Lagos) next month and I want them to have the time of their life's so much so they'll be begging us to take them back soon.  They've never been to Nigeria before and have only ever seen the bad side portrayed in documentaries on the telly etc.
