Everyone hates Muslims. We're not allow to draw ordinary pictures of the prophet without been separated from our heads. Which kyn nonsense is that? My own pencil and paper should be used to draw anything on my own property.

But show me where he made a hateful statement against black people?
grin grin Trump loves Black people and Nigerians! Proof below:

in the 1970s he refused to rent his apartments to Black people and got sued. He said a judge was biased against him because he was Mexican. According to him Kenyans are criminals. He used to fire and underpay Black workers at his casinoes in Las Vegas and has been sued for that. The Ku Klux Klan supports him and he was glad to have their votes. He even insulted Native American Indians and an American family whose son died in Iraq serving in the US army, because they happened to be Muslim. I guess this is all fine with you grin

But yeaaaahhhhh! Trump lovessss blacks and Africans!

That your cousin who used to send you dollars so you can flex, may not have a job from next year...

He hates Muslims

He thinks all Africans are criminals

I think you all need to look in a mirror and re-read my statements. No more visa to born or go to school. Una go write JAMB and no more SATs.

Thanks. I will find time to have a very serious discussion about our finances.
I will insist he tells me and if he doesn't I will not spend out of my money because I assume he has a lot that's why he is hiding it.

As for the savings, I have been saving that money since university even before I met him, I am going to invest it how I like. Even if I still spend from my salary on the house, I will not touch that savings. It will be kept away for a rainy day.
Don't insist, just let no be a calm No. "Please can I have money for the baby's cerelac?", "use your money!" "Ah I kept in Tbills for us, ah okay then baby will drink akamu and manage smiley". "What do you think of the Ibeju Lekki scheme, should we buy, how much is it our rent, it may be a good idea o". "Was reading the Newborn thread and it was saying how we should invest for children, should we try and get an account and then think of mutual funds in baby's name?". "Mehn, dollar is now N470, I found this deal, do you think we should buy like $100 and keep every month?".

Those kind of conversations encourage him to discuss money matters with you.

Whatever you do, don't lay this money at his feet in an attempt to "be submissive", it will backfire to the point that you will taste the slap of your actions in your mouth. I'm begging you not to do that, because that is what my mother will tell me.

Just act like all is well. Your marriage is new, he needs to learn that all those shenanigans won't work. Neither of you trust each other financially and that will take time, because it is one thing to discuss before the ring slides on your finger, it is another to implement when marriage is in full swing.

Do you know how much the rent is, how much for electricity bills, all the household expenditure? You need to know. Slowly, start working it into the conversation about ideas to save, how to cut costs and more. He needs to react by opening up to you. That deleting of alerts should stop, don't check, just let it be clear that you are above childish behaviours like that.

He doesn't want to do this He wants to hide his own money and know everything about mine.
I have heard of this reaction from some men. Don't spend the money, the economy is not going to improve till at least 6 months. Go and invest in Treasury bills and Mutual funds. Tell him what you did and say the money is available IF the family needs it but it would be unwise to spend it when the future is uncertain. If any emergency comes up, you guys should have backup finances and be willing to help the family. If a serious issue arises, you should make the money available then, but only a serious issue. Continue being prudent with the finances as before. If he wishes to keep kicking up a fuss, give the money to your parents as a gift for their medical bills.

A lot of couples are given horrendous advice from all sorts and one of the most popular is "Don't tell your spouse how much you earn". You and he must be able to be honest, you don't need to know how every kobo was spent or saved but have a general idea so that in case of any surprises, you're not shaking. It is not about "my wife held back money from me", that was wrong of you. But his reaction "eh, shey she has money, let her be using it" is wrong of him too. And if you spend that money and next year find yourself scrimping and saving desperately (prices of goods in Nigeria are rising), you will never trust him again and he will take his guilt out on you in anger.

You know how much a baby costs. You know what it is to go to market with N15,000 and come back with less than 10 items. Don't spend that money, apologise for not telling him but make it clear: that is the family Emergency fund, it is available when all hell breaks loose. And if he starts doing things like refusing to pay bills, let him. If he refuses to pay for PHCN and they cut the light, nne sit in the dark.

Because it was the false science that gave Hitler the backing to commit genocide against the Jews.
Few people sat down and decided they had a right to see others as inferior creatures therefore could make them not reproduce and infact kill them all off if possible. It is a very dangerous school of thought and I kindly urge you to drop it.

No human has a right to say another is too unintelligent or ugly to reproduce.
Such talk might have merit if there's a possibility of the offspring being born with severe genetic problems as seen in incestous relationships or that of parents who are carriers to fatal illnesses.
Otherwise that's just preposterous.

I do support poor people only having the number of kids they can take care of. That's what I meant when I said I agree with you. Not that talk about eugenics.
Hitler wasn't even the first to proclaim Eugenics. Winston Churchill liked the idea, so did several other people that are popularly quoted on NL (if we dislike anyone at some point supported Eugenics, we would have to put our phones down and stop drinking cereal as well grin). The Americans used it and the bible to justify slavery. I have a picture of the actual value items of the price of a Nigerian slave and you know what, we are still selling our people cheaply grin. Even when the British tried to abolish slavery, Nigerian chiefs wrote to them complaining. Eugenics will start in Africa if anybody carries it out.

So I'm here to rant angry angry

Someone seems to be teething and won't eat, won't sleep. But that is not too bad, my issue is her Separation anxiety. It has gotten worse.

If Himself and I come home and she sees him, she starts crowing happily and waving until she sees me...and immediately bursts into tears and rushes me
Like "Where have you been, I needed you!". She follows me everywhere, I walk to the kitchen she comes, I immediately turn to the bedroom, she runs after. Everytime I go into the bathroom, she has to be held back and she starts crying. She won't eat or sleep unless she's lying down on top of me!! Once I come back, she races to meet me. I can only leave the house if I sneak out. She thinks I'm walking fast to avoid her so she started holding onto my clothes and I nearly trip over her daily because she is holding onto my clothes with both hands so she can follow me. I got so pissed day before yesterday that I stripped bare-arsed and walked off. Madam stared at me, perplexed for a few minutes. Then she ran at me and grabbed my bum so she could hold on.
So we are back to wearing clothes so she can hold that instead grin

I don't know what to do, it's really sad and exhausting. I don't think all babies are thia bad, do you?

I will protect my daughters with all I've got. Things that we were not exposed to when growing up are everywhere now. Nudity is gradually becoming the norm, decency is being thrown away and some parents too are not helping matters. Let me give a quick example. A 5yrs old girl came to meet me on sun (I teach in Sunday school) that a boy is telling her to pull down her pant and sit on his laps, I was surprised because we were like 4teachers in that class, I told her to go and call the boy. When the boy came, I was shocked, he's a 6yrs old boy. I asked him some questions and found out that the boy have been seeing people around him do same. His parents, maid with security... I told the mother but she didn't see it as anything. She just said he's a boy now, dat it's the girl I should talk to. I felt really bad. These are the kind of boys our girls meet in school, playgrounds, parties etc.
shocked

What exactly did his mother want you to say to the girl, that it was her fault or what? Why is she encouraging her son in doing something so bad?? So because he is a boy, he's allowed to molest another person's child, it's fine and dandy?? Did you report her to the Head of the creche, at least keep the boy away until his mother learns sense before he asks another little girl and she agrees?

Gerrard59, the truth is, you expressed your ideas badly. Your criteria cannot work because there are wealthy people who choose not to have any children and by their definition, you're probably poor. There are intelligent people who believe in Eugenics and by their definition, Eugenics programs should start in Africa (seriously, can you blame them grin). What Govt should do is start sensitising people: Family Planning. Which they already do. But we are sentimental in this part of the world and view that as an abomination. Every doctor will tell you that it very hard to convince people here to do a vasectomy after having multiple kids. Infact, I think the Catholic church is more successful teaching Billings method of Family Planning than the Govt offering feee IUDs. That unemployed corper with the triplets, if someone offers him a job and says "this job is dependent on you and your wife going on a Family Planning program", people will scream that you are forcing your choices on him. Which is why you keep out of it: don't force your choices on others, but don't support choices you don't believe in. I believe in free Healthcare for all and Family Planning is part of Healthcare.

Free malaria treatment was started by the FGN, and funded by NGOs for everybody, and not just the extremes of life.
Fashola started the free treatment of all ailments for both the young and the old, but guess what? It's not being funded. If you'rehaving surgeries in some gen hospitals as an elderly or young child, you're only going to be exempted from half of the cost of the procedure itself and the anaesthetic. You pay half of that and the full costs of other expenses.
Hospitals are expected to raise funds, to do that. Is it not from those same people they will raise the funds from? Of course they will just stock up on paracetamol, and a few cheap antibiotics and if that's finished ,thats it. It was all mouth, and propaganda. Of course .

Private individuals have tried to donate millions in equipment to LUTH, their board and CMD keep appropriating it to their own private hospitals. Someone looked into how much LUTH had gotten from Govt in the past. He nearly wept. Meamwhile, all the workers at these hospitals are joining you to scream "corruption is killing Nigeria". El-Rufai paid midnight surprise visit to a hospital and they rushed to switch on the gen, meanwhile they collect allocation that the gen is on nightly. The same thing happened in public schools, the people organising the theft are not Commissioners. People have tried endowing certain departments in UNILAG, Senate committee will them to hand the money over, they will deploy as they deem fit (if part of the money miss road, oh well!). 3 people will attend a meeting, Level 12 Govt employee will direct her subordinate to write 5 people went and collect the allocation given and worse, pocket the lion's share and give only N15k to the 3 who actually attended the meeting. And she too cried "corruption is killing Nigeria".
Our taxes will not seem to be working when everyone in the system is gaming it. And these people are lower-income people, doing the same things Senators are doing. The day you decide to run a Govt office honestly as their boss, every single junior worker will hate you and frustrate your life. But they too, will come out and complain "corruption is killing Nigeria".
All those you've listed are civil servants and co and they're definitely not poor people. They are the regular Joe and Jane like you and the OP.
It is still the ultimate responsibility of the govt to punish corrupt individuals the way they are doing some of those in the justice system now. It's the govts responsibility to ensure accountability in its staff. Why haven't those CMDs and all those other corrupt people in civil service been punished? Because they wine and dine with your govt. They were put their by your govt. They are the govt and a law unto themselves. Any govt with the lack of a political will cannot tackle corruption.
If you think those in civil service are poor, then you need to rethink. They're not wealthy btw, but most (especially those that are in the position to steal) can afford to take care of their children. A CMD/Prof for example can afford to send his children to schools the OP went to, but however may not be able to send them to Brit int school without stealing. So also his junior staff may not be able to send the kids to OPs alumni but will still send the kids to school However, taking care of their children according to the OPs standards of Eton, BIS, et al is what will make them steal
I'm pretty sure of what I'm saying. I worked with them, people I know worked on the Free Malaria program, people I know are working in GHs and LUTH till tomorrow and I knew pharmacists, Doctors and more who felt bad about what was going on. And most of the corruption was not being done by connected individuals. Patients constantly made poor decisions (we fed a child whose parents left her to starve on admission whilst they threw owambe to celebrate the son they had been trying for since. My siblings came home in bruises because awon boys brought their leader, stabbed and bleeding and when they were told to go to Blood bank and buy blood, reacted by beating up doctors and nurses. I guess those behaviours are the fault of Govt! No problem, let us sit down and wait for Govt to "do their job", we all have nothing to do with it). And if those stealing were all "wining and dining" with govt, I would certainly be amazed. Or maybe all the ghost workers were all commissioners. You can keep attacking the OP, he is guilty of expressing himself very badly. The actual idea behind his words is something that bears thought: Don't have kids you cannot afford to take care of. Nobody can judge who is intelligent or not to have children because there everyone has different criteria but everyone knows it is dangerous to have a large, poor, uneducated and unemployed population. Just ask the North.

Sugah, it's not a low-IQ thingie, it's a Nigerian worker mentality issue. They know what they are doing, most times. The last 2 my sister had swore they didn't know how to pound yam. Women in their mid-30s and 40s who grew up in the village! The last one had 2 children and was 28, yet she constantly left the kids to play unsupervised and would lie down in another room on her phone. One of the boys ended up losing his front teeth playing dangerously, she didn't bother to inform their mum until that she came home and saw it. And her reply was a very defensive "I have no idea what happened!". Because she didn't want to admit that she had left them for hours to relax in her room, which was a different section of the house. She would never do that to her own kids. Most of these women don't send your kids, in their minds, their own children are not enjoying like yours so why should they be wasting too much energy on yours? We as Nigerians don't have good work ethic, it is rare to see a Nigerian who works like the business belongs to him and feels that he is earning a pay commensurate to what they put in. Nigerians work grudgingly.

Compare these 2 cases: I saw a Filipino nanny with her charge. The boy's mum was checking in, she carried him out of his stroller. He wasn't crying, she just didn't want to leave him there. She absentmindedly smoothed his cheek and kissed his forehead, she was affectionate. His mother didn't see any of this and all of us watching were exclaiming in stunned disbelief. My mum and another man thought maybe the child was the Filipino lady's own. Full Naija kid!

Case 2: Nigerian nanny took her caucasian charge to check her bank alert at GTB. The toddler wandered off, sat on the dusty floor, rubbed her toy all over the floor and put it in her mouth. The nanny didn't even bother to pick her up. Women on the queue started hissing and one asked her "if it was your child, will you let her sit down on the ground?". The nanny got angry and jerked the child up. She didn't bother to remove the dirty toy from that one's mouth.

The help I have doesn't steal, cleans, laughs with my kid and worries in her own way about her. That's all I need, I do all the market runs and cooking. I even let them take midday naps together whilst I cook for both of them.

What you can do is pump twice as much. Better yet, get an electric pump. If it is out of your budget, perhaps find a mum whom you can partner with and buy one together and share it. People loan electric pumps out in other countries and it really helps. Did you see the latch video I posted a page back?

I have use different things to try to clear it but non is working instead it leaves her skin dry and flaky We use Johnson soap and vaseline for now. I have searched for dove pure and sensitive soap in festac where I stay but can't seem to find it. Please what can I use to clear this. I am just not happy, please come to my aid. Mama Alphahandmaiden, helovesme, onegai and all mamas. Pic is attached. Thanks.
Since you are in Festac, can I send you to a Dermatologist there? Because baby tribotan and all those creams are anti-fungal creams and unless you use them for exactly what they are supposed to treat, it will clear it but thin the skin and everytime baby has a wound as a child, it won't heal as fast and gets infected easier. Same with girls who bleach (yeah, antifungal creams thin the skin and eventually gets absorbed in significant doses over the years, same as most bleaching agents). A lot of Drs don't tell parents this but they see it very often. And if anyone comes to the island, just go to Mega Plaza and get Dove from there. It's upto you sha.

whatever you see on the mainstream media is what the government wants you to see because they're all corrupt

The group I referred you to is a global organisation that is keen on being the anti-government by revealing what the mainstream media will not tell us because they're all corrupt. Just google about "Anonymous" and read about them.
They have an official website and where I referred you to is their Facebook page.

Whenever I read anything from anonymous, I take out little of my time to research on it.
I know Anonymous. But I know human nature even better and I know everyone has an agenda. No-one is altruistic, no-one. Everyone wants you to believe what they want you to buy. And Hillary is at least more competent than Trump. I don't want a saint of a leader if I'm not fighting a biblical war. I have an issue with an amoral businessman selling himself as a saviour when he scams everyone in sight. How people can vote for someone who takes advantage of every legal (and sometimes illegal) loophole in the Tax laws to game the system, to run government, is baffling. I'd rather use the bulk of my money to travel the world and buy designer handbags than pay 5 children's school fees at the same time. (Think what you like about this but it's my business so...)

Two kids are more than enough.
I wonder how people have courage to beget 6 children. And they are both Nigerian primary school teachers or something that pays even lower.
The lady with a kiosk down the street has 2 kids, older child is 4 and cannot even identify colours easily talkless of read simple sentences yet he is attending a "school". Instead of them to save up to move him to a better school, they threw 1st year birthday party for 2nd child. People earning more did quiet cutting of cake in their homes for 1st birthday. It's their choice but please don't ask me to bankrole such decisions. A mallam selling foodstuffs told me proudly he has 5 kids. I just smiled and moved away. If you line your 7 children in front of my gate on Christmas Day, expecting Lord knows what, I shall congratulate you on their well-being and disappoint you. This is probably going to get ugly Gerrard59...bro better hide! 70% of Nigerians cannot afford expensive, private education. And you have effectively told them that they're not the same level as those that can and they should stop doing the only thing they can do freely, which is to procreate. So yeah, lots of them are coming for you with pitchforks. grin

I agree and disagree with you. I think private education in Nigeria is better than public (everyone scream and shout but the truth of the matter is a lot of HR bosses prefer the CU and Redeemer students to UNILAG or UNIBEN students. One said the privates are more disciplined and could be trained easier, especially in banks).

I also feel that a large percentage of education lies with the parents: enlightened parents breed enlightened children, environment being key. So if you pay N2mil per annum for primary school, back it up with spending time with your kids, learning in real life. No whining how you are too tired from chasing money to spend time with your kids. And if you can't spend, take the time to cover the deficits you see in their education.

Most important of all: DON'T HAVE CHILDREN THAT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND TIME ON AND RESORT TO CONSTANTLY USING THEM AS A MEANS OF SUSTENANCE.

Most of those high fees in a lot of schools go towards facilities and not great teaching staff. Can we all stop shouting "private school kids don't score well at JAMB/Common Entrance", nobody expects them to use those results, why will I pay N1.5mil per annum for primary school and send my child to FGGC Sagamu instead of Corona or Loyola Jesuit? Gone are those glory days of Unity schools and Federal Universities.

You cannot really tell lower-income people to stop having children they cannot cater for. That is infringing on their rights so what governments do is take away all the free handouts they get, but then the Liberal educated class will scream blue murder about starving kids. There is free family planning but lower class people will be angry that you are interfering with "God's plan for their fertility". One doesn't have to force your choices on them, simply refuse to support the choice they make.

specter:
Very soon it will will cos many apartments in ikoyi, VI, lekki, Ajah and environs are now empty properties.Perhaps they are still hoping until reality sets in. Cos guys are moving further island like lekki2 and estates around ibeju. While others simply relocate to mainland. And rent a good apartment for half the price, then buy a good car for the traffic. With time e go reduce for island before e hit mainland. Just wait and see. While cars are getting more expensive.
I don't think so o. Lagos landlords are greedy. They are looking for money but will hold out as long as possible before slashing rents. Ikoyi won't drop unless more foreigners move their families out of the country. And traffic seems to be getting worse heading towards Ajah so I don't see people wanting to move further than VGC until they expand the road network. There is more security on the island too compared to the mainland.

Here is another website with the same story:

Other news outlets also reported it. Granted, the Guardian, The New York Times and NYMag.com may have actual seasoned journalists working for them, using verifiable information but it is upto you to decide truthfulness of a random Facebook group and decide whether or not you wish to be informed by proper news information or a Facebook group. Just like how every story on Nairaland is verified and written by seasoned journalists, a statement which is not true. Good day to you.

Thanks dear you go school of person mind. I definitely want to be in the kid (s) life in every way thats ny responsibility.
I'm glad to hear this! But you need to see the full picture, eh smiley

Let's say the mother of the child works in a bank. The bank moves her to Calabar branch, from Lagos. Normally, she and her branch manager can apply for a transfer back to Lagos based on Spousal issues. But she is not a spouse and as we saw from that young lady' s thread recently, Companies in Nigeria do not give special considerations to Single Mothers. So off she goes to Calabar and you're in Lagos. Then, one day baby runs a fever overnight (perhaps you should read Newborn thread in Health section, so many reality checks about being a parent there!) and Mama needs help and support with hospital runs. You're too far away and you need to buy a flight ticket to Calabar. Worse, some guy in the Calabar branch is not only supporting her, he's sharing prayers at night by Whatsapp and Tender Good Mornings. He proposes and she accepts and the move to Calabar becomes permanent. Are you going to tell her "hey don't get married to this guy because my claim is stronger"? But it's not. What next...

But surrogacy will require him to raise the child himself. He not only needs a womb, he also need the woman to raise the kid. (Most likely by herself since they are not married and the kid would be staying with her, but I guess it's no big deal because many of the so called married men do not participate in raising their kids sef so what is the point in marrying?) He wants the kid to bear his name and enjoy the nourishment that comes from a mother.
If he NEEDS a woman to raise the child for him, then he wants to a part-time Father. He would be better off finding one of the numerous pregnant ladies here constantly being abandoned and taking up a Uncle role. If he wants to be a parent, he has to be involved in being a parent, unless he wants to be an absentee Father and write a cheque occasionally and make phonecalls and visits on birthdays and show up for photo ops.
Children are little human beings, you don't get to return them to their cage after a meal, a quick cuddle and some playtime when you are free. Get a pet smiley
The men whom have chosen his path seemed to all have enough money to indulge in being an absentee father. It didn't always work out well, sometimes the child replaced him in their life with a present father. Sometimes it worked out, but usually after he realised he was about to be replaced and deduced that writing a cheque and phonecalls didn't make him a father, he was forced to spend at least 60% of his time with the child.
And the mother can still decide to make all the decisions in the child's life and wake up to relocate to Australia and he's back to square one.
With Surrogacy, he gets what he wants: to be a Dad! Or did he just want to be an Uncle...huh

Daddytime, have you thought things through? What if the mother decides to relocate to another country? What if she gets married, and her new husband is now the de-facto fatherly presence in the child's life, then what?
If you really want a child, you realise that fertility clinics exist all over Nigeria where people donate eggs and Surrogates exist to carry the (if) successful pregnancy to term, giving you your own child, less complications. If you're serious about this, why not do that? Put your money where your intent is and you can get the ball rolling on the whole process.
