Sardongarigan:Get a lawyer. LASG has passed some new laws concerning issues like this (I think the minimum payment is N45,000). Get a lawyer versed in Family Law, who knows the right magistrates and he will have to drop money. And if she was under 18 years when the affair started, get a lawyer, an NGO AND the police. Fear of that wahala will make him pony up cash. |
thorpido:The right word is "Corrupt" but a lot of people will take it personally ignoring the obvious: how can our nation be in shambles, is it Govt that told Health workers, the officials at Passport Office, the NPF boys and even your average worker to be corrupt??They are very lucky. It is usually better to get a much older lady, with the promise of good healthcare and welfare, than a young lady/young man. Those elderly mamas are happy to be enjoying 24 hours light and be watching Nollywood. |
thorpido:Never, ever. Pay whatever the hell any worker abroad wants. That is the price you pay for living in a society that works: it's more expensive to afford Human Resources. Or come to Nigeria, pay cheap labour and have a society in shambles, with zero infrastructure and pay quadruple just to have electricity, clean water and some measure of security. You cannot have both, no eating your slice of cake and sharing some to Ada, Bisi and Halima. And Nigerians in general are too unpredictable to ever trust long-run. |
limsycutey:I have one but I got it abroad. The only place I've seen a nosefrida is selling it for about N10,000 (rounded up). |
Doubledouble:Emel is closer to her and I know the PDs there (consultants). Their medical team is pretty seasoned (their 2 gynaes, one is a Conso and the other is Prof of Gynae), their surgeon is very respected. My only worry is if it is a tough case (I'm just concerned because naija doctors can love to keep prescribing antibiotics even with no change). I don't think I have any contacts for Massey but abeg let her start going there since Govt Hospital can waste time. cc rezzy Mamamj, Lifeline in Lekki 1 is okay (they have a PD come in daily and their main nurses are seasoned matrons). I think they're overpriced though but for the basics they are fine. To be honest, I only did Immunization there because of hubby (even though FG is the one that provides all the immunisations to every hospital in the country, he was concerned about the storage in LG, what if there is no light for days). |
Rezzy, please go to Emel or Massey now. Go now, he should be showing improvements. Start going this morning. There are paeditricians at Emel hospital every single day. Massey is a children's hospital, your son needs a doctor who is trained to treat children and not a GP. |
Hey mamas, I'd like to share these Fever guides for babies. I think most of us use Digital or strip thermometers (the latter tend to read a bit higher). A baby at 38C is having a low-grade or mild fever but no need to panic, but a baby at 38C for 3 days has been having a fever for 3 days and should be taken to the hospital (remember what it says for every painkiller "if after 3 days, consult your Dr").

Godmother:My nephews were like this, it is a common complaint. It may be the shape of nipple or the flow is not fast enough for her. Don't stress it. |
kejibabe:I think as soon as you can. I like the fact that they are affordably made and if your child destroys it or loses it, it won't hurt as much as if it was store-bought and you remembered that $= N465 and tears start flowing freely. I am going to do the shapes one very soon, as I have all the materials needed and even if her Royal Naughtiness decides she doesn't like it, I won't get bothered that it was an expensive waste. Any of the activities I've posted before work for 2 year olds. Has your toddler started scribbling? |
JOYlikeArivER:I have no idea. But it sounds like a visit to your doctor is in order. If you are in Lagos, see a dermatologist (there are some I know, in private hospitals around VI/Festac/Lekki). Godmother, babies refusing to nurse happens in every continent on the planet. So whilst I fully believe that Indians and Brazilians are throwing juju against breastfeeding, I have no explanation for Dutch, American and British women doing so. So "awon aye" is a myth. |
rezzy:Apart from blood tests, how did they confirm diagnosis of Sepsis (most Nigerian hospitals don't do catheters for very little kids and lumbar puncture too is tricky). How long has he been on antibiotics? http://m.kidshealth.org/en/parents/sepsis.html?WT.ac= |
Inshalord:Are you in Lagos, do you want me to refer you to an experienced Dermatologist (Oniru/Festac/VI)? He's been treating us for 20 years minimum and can probably see you faster You would have to go private though or you can wait to see yours |
rezzy:Pele. Don't be afraid. Hugs to your LO, he will recover beautifully. Can I post a link for you, so you can read up and understand what the Drs are doing? I wouldn't want to alarm you but for me it helps. |
Hey mamas, how did our weekend go? I know we are all looking for activities for our kids and I hope we are still reading. Baby E is now sounding out Numbers (1 to 7) by herself and sings "Twinkle Little Star" like an Opera singer (she likes hitting the high notes at the end of the line "what you are!" . Here are 2 more DIY activities we can do for our kids, one teaches them numbers and alphabets, the other is good for teaching shapes. For the one teaching shapes, all you need is a cardboard, some pieces of cardboard and stick velcro to the back and front (velcro is like N100 to N200 per yard and that is more than enough to make this project. If you can get craft foam paper (it used to be N500 for 30 or more pieces), it works better for the shapes and it is already coloured and flexible for bending and is soft and not easy to chew off bits for munchy babies. The economy may be bad doesn't mean we can neglect mental development and these are easy and affordable. Baby E was disturbing everyone today to I mixed edible paint, gave her paper and that kept her quiet till bathtime this evening. HTH.

chizeal:It's a bit late but welcome to the thread. Try and do searches and read back because we have had some very serious discussions on alll sorts of topics (e.g. Finances and investing for children, play activities and more). |
Rezzy, how is your LO doing now? Better, I hope. |
maaamaaa, Firstly, why were you replying PMs from so many people and even passing out your number? You're supposed to go through the profile of the sender of every request for PMs you get and then decide whether or not you wish to continue speaking to them. And passing out your number so easily? You have to start making better choices and thinking on your feet, what if someone had come sounding helpful, befriended you and then kidnapped your baby when born? The facebook poster who insulted you, was it male or female? Try and think back and really, do yourself a favour: unfriend anyone that you may have added recently that you don't know in person. Lastly, I mentioned here earlier that I needed you to get off this section and move to Health section. The mods made a mistake moving that thread to the frontpage because it attracted a lot of the stvpid people to it. You are on the Pregnancy thread, people make safe friends there through shared experiences, you ought to have gone there since (there are expecting mums in Uyo). All the info you need for preparing for this child is on that thread. So if you wish to start looking ahead, that is where you ought to be and not here |
Rossy99:Stop giving antibiotics if it ia not prescribed by a doctor, because different antibiotics treat different bacterial infections and you also don't want to build a drug resistance in your child's body and weaken the liver. That kind of persistent coughing, especially at night and a dry cough, sounds like an allergy. I had one recently. Move the fan from hitting them directly and take them to the hospital and tell the doctor about him checking for allergies (their chests will be clear when he listens if it is one) and he can prescribe an allergy medication syrup for them. Keep some drinking water beside them at night and give them sips. Most kids outgrow it. HTH |
Everyone suggesting Ajah as 30 minutes from VI, why, certainly that is correct....only on Sunday evenings. Mondays to Sunday afternoons Lekki Phase 1 to Ajah is all traffic (that is the only road leading there and so many churches have moved there as well). Plus they are rebuilding the roundabouts. There is always horrid traffic at Lekki 1 and Jakande. People living in Agungi/NICON town are spending over 1 hour driving to and fro during the week, no-one in Ajah is doing it faster. And after VGC the traffic gets even worse. |
rezzy:Emel hospital has more than 2 consultant paeditricians but it is in Festac, that is not too far from Igando. They are very experienced and even have a very good surgeon as well as other doctors. |

mylogic111, Brah, go for it! C'mon, your britches are itching and instead of opening threads up and down, looking for all sorts of justifications even in the face of general condemnation and the girl's mother frowning upon your friendship with her teenage daughter, just do it. Like Nike. ![]() I mean, I'm currently surrounded by 16 to 25 year olds and we aren't having deep conversations (though I've seen some I'd like to have "deep mature conversations" with ) but you seem to have a knack for it, so go for it!But before you rush out and get that new set of bedsheets (her tender butt is still used to the scratchy checked bedspreads of her secondary school days), shave your armpits or chest hair (so it doesn't scratch her young skin) and drink burantashi in preparation (most guys in their 30s aren't as vigourous as they would like), do us all a favour, PLEASE: DON'T CHANGE YOUR MONIKER ANYTIME So that maybe next year, when her belly is swelling and her family is demanding you act like a responsible fellow, and you find yourself noticing her "bad, evil, wayward personality" (men only notice girls' naughty wickedness when their sins have caught up to them and belle don dey swell) or when she finally finds a 25 year old with a bank job who has 5 more years to get his salary upto N150,000 monthly and he knows the lyrics to Tekno's "Pana" song (which you don't as it's mostly 30 year olds hitting the clubs who do), and you find yourself bitter and biting your nails in pained silence biko, do us all a favour: use your old moniker to come back and update us. We love to be entertained here. Thank you. |
Rezzy, where is your location? Let us try and recommend a paeditrician to you. |
MssRose:I have never heard of Chloxy G gel. Could you post a picture of it? Who gave it to you to use because I haven't heard of people using more than spirit (isoprophy alcohol) or vaseline or coconut/olive oil on the navel. |
everfaithfulgod, thanks o but I and a couple of mums are already moving onto a diaper product which we feel is better in the long run and I know has listening ears from the get-go (I'm so impressed by the fact that they made testing their one priority and are offering to teach how to use Clothe diapers to new mums. Also, they are planning a Corporate Service Responsibility Program that will impact mothers in low-income groups). |
Nah, if you guys had been on the Newborn thread in Health section a few weeks back, we had a robust discussion, complete with expert advice from people in the financial/insurance world, on how to invest the money rather than leaving it in a Savings account to be earning a meagre 1 to 3% interest. There's more you can do with that money and I believe most of the parents there have diversified their kids' savings. |
"Don't carry any man on top of your head." "Let the words of your mouth be few." (only said that to me when I was administering a verbal smackdown to someone). Funny enough, my dad taught us a very important one: "The price of Pound sterling will always correlate to the price of a stick of suya. Whatever people pay for suya is what they are willing to pay for pounds." For 25 good years, that piece of Economic policy has held true. Last year, suya was N200/stick, £ was above N200. 3 years ago, Suya was N100/stick, £ was above N100. In the late 80s/early 90s, suya was about N1/stick, £ was N3 to N5. This year, suya is now N500/stick, guess how much £ is? ![]() You're welcome ![]() |
sayoberry:They're all grown up. |
tatacherie:Have you tried Weetabix with milk (though we waited till 1) or try Quaker oats, milk, fruit (pear or red apple grated) and a pinch of cinnamon (that should be fine for under 1 year olds). The Quaker oats is pretty delicious and Beechams makes a recipe like that for babies as one of their pot foods. Golden Morn purged Baby E and she was over 1. |
esteria:If the pharmacist said yes, then it should be okay. |
ozycy:When we got back, Himself had never changed a diaper in his life. Then, we had no help and only MiL. That faithful day, I was in the bathroom and I suddenly heard "she has pooed". I ran back into the bathroom and replied I was still bathing. His mum wickedly left him to do it. See piteous cries of "Oh my god, why is it everywhere, is this normal, Jesus this smells, where is the front of the diaper, stay still na!". Me, I stayed in that bathroom and cleaned my toenails, wiped every eyelash down and even grabbed a tweezer and decided to tweeze my armpits. I could hear his mum laughing. Poor man was so traumatised. After she left and we were on our own, he just struggled. His coworkers would snap pics of him sleeping tiredly at his desk at work (his boss used to laugh and call it "New Daddy Syndrome" ). But now, he's a pro. Though he will do anything to avoid a poopy diaper or even discussions of potty training poop (which I usually make sure to bring up when he's eating ) |
tatacherie, sorry for your loss. Good morning mamas. |
