Career › Re: Ericsson To Sack Nigerians As Firm Ships Jobs To India by Onegai(f): 11:49am On Nov 14, 2016
Nigeria keeps focusing on the wrong things: you need PROPER VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS, not "we are training youths to be plumbers and carpenters and bricklayers", dooming them to be minimum wage workers forever. Skilled vocational workers and employee protection. There are Nigerians who know this job but I constantly see poor Indians flocking into the country to take the jobs because they are better skilled than Nigerians and their bosses are in positions of power to protect those jobs for them.

There is nothing in Nigeria we call "Sacred", our own is to destroy in wanton greed and vicious, celebrated ignorance. From elephants to giraffe to lions to sea turtles and pangolins. And later they will tell you they did it out of poverty. Because a poor man can afford an airplane ticket to smuggle illegal goods.

thewife306, I have some concerns about your situation. It sounds familiar, like the start of something about to get much worse. I really pray it isn't.

I think the most important thing to do is NOT to cringe inwardly when he starts shouting. When someone starts to show abusive behaviour, it can be escalated by how the victim reacts. Several women who have gone on to become beaten wives will testify that they begged and apologised and it made things worse. I have personally witnessed it. Verbal or Physical Abuse is a form of control. I think it is very important that you don't beg and apologise. I believe you need to be able to look him in the eye and say "You can express yourself better than this" when he starts, in a very calm, confident voice and keep doing what you are doing. Do not exchange words or raise your voice. Don't turn your back on him when you do so and always be aware of your surroundings. I think you should get rid of the househelp immediately: there is no point keeping an employee whom has been told it is fine to disrespect her boss.

If he keeps losing his cool when you are being calm, you need to get your family involved and his family.

Why not contact this fellow? He works for a company who loans money out to small-scale businesses and if you are genuine, you should be able to scale through their vetting process and get a loan and repay it in time.

The Abidec is in order please. Breast milk does not contain enough vitamin D.
Nah, this isn't correct. Vitamin D is dependent on diet. In the US, they don't eat a lot of foods rich in Vitamin D. Nigerian people eat a large quantity of eggs, leafy greens fish, beans and nuts and fresh orange fruit so we don't eat like Americans (who think eggs are fattening, eat more salads, dont really eat beans and certainly don't eat oranges like we do). In Nigeria we do, so doctors in Nigeria and UK (which I believe we most closely follow their health guidelines) recommend the Mother take Vitamin D. And most paeditricians don't like very young babies on multivitamins.

Read my post I said they need to financially plan together instead of this buying food by chance routine. Let everyone know what they are responsible for, she has stated several times here that she wants to be a traditional wife where he provides and she stashes, they both need to live within a budget and have savings.

If you can have unprotected se-x why the heck won't you be financially honest
Yes they do, and they should have a Joint savings plan. But it would be unwise to pool ALL their resources into one Joint account. I have seen examples of that concept failing badly and even my FiL will not allow us do it. Because there are repercussions in the future. The best idea is to have a Joint Savings and Joint Checking, contribute to them, pay bills out of the checking and have their separate individual savings, no matter how little.

Go and sit with your husband on excel do an expense sheet and income sheet then plan how to share bills and save either together or jointly.

He cannot be suffering like a goat to pay all bills while you are stashing away your own money that is a silly mentality and shameful too in 2016.
She has said several times, she pays for household bills and takes care of upto 50% of household expenditure regularly, stating as an example that she paid for all their groceries last month.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Lessons I Learnt From 2016 US Presidental Elections: Donald Trump's Victory by Onegai(f):
Trump told White uneducated people: "I am going to bring your jobs back and stop these nonsense Latinos taking work from you. Also muslims and Black Lives Matter because a lot of you are police families and you feel under attack."

He told White Educated people: "I am going to deport Nigerians and Indians taking your jobs and stop these Muslim attacks. I will also reduce healthcare coverage because you are now paying more for it since more poor people joined for free or for cheap. I will also end Black Lives Matter because they are using it to make you feel guilty for being White"

He told White Christians: "Enough with this Gay rights and transgender nonsense, I am also going to overturn Abortion".

He told rich White people: "I am going to cut taxes for you."

Trump won all their votes. Call it Identity Politics, in Nigeria we call it Tribal Politics and everyone plays it (how GEJ remembered his middle name was "Eberechukwu" when he was up for re-election, how Buhari promised to Northerners to expand Sharia Law, Oba of Lagos Island and his "Go to the Lagoon speech if you don't vote my guy", Igbo people and whomever promises them Biafra, the list goes on).

So many of them voted for him and admitted that he didn't have the temperament to be President but they just wanted to give a big "F-you" to the coastal cities and the elites. In 2 years' time when the Repubs can't deliver (and they cannot, their economic and healthcare plan doesn't favour poor people), they will vote them out during midterms. Same thing they did to Obama. The problem is all the damage he and the Republicans would have done in that time (limiting press freedom, privatising Medicaid and messing up Universal Healthcare, driving up debt, maybe being foolish enough to get into a trade war with China, Canada and Mexico, most definitely allowing Russia push its expansionist agenda and hold Europe to ransom, giving North Korea balls to threaten South Korea with nuclear warfare, pissing off enough Western-born muslims into radicalising and reinvigorating ISIS same as UKIP did, the good thing is that they will stay away from Syria and Assad).

Arggg, your comments are hardly ever clear or straightforward. At least I understand this one.
Fayose is the only person in govt exchanging words with Buhari. He even went on to attack the First lady. He postured with a trip to China after Buhari went, to do nothing. He goes around cutting kpomo, eating roast corn, sharing rice and live chickens instead of creating a good economic and educational environment. He does not speak too much grammar like he attended university. He is willing to invite bankers to his house and surprise them with a camera crew and create a spectacle. He passed the anti-grazing law in his state. If he presents himself as a Presidential candidate in Nigeria, he will be a Trump and win in a landslide. All he needs is an Igbo running mate or a Donald Duke as VP.

You clearly haven't been paying attention. Nigerians are calling it the will of God and praising the Lord and thanking God fo Trump. Their favourite white pastors endorsed him so that was enough. Buhari has already booked service and Mass with Oyedepo, Adeboye and Mbaka, armed with his PR crew, so he too will win re-election. Give the masses bread and circus or religion and watch your approval rating soar.

Mindfulness:
Trump has made racist, islamophobic and sexist remarks but that does not mean that his voters or most of them are racist, sexist or islamophobic.
I would have never voted for him but voting for Hillary would make me lose sleep as well. Americans had the choice between pest and cholera and Trump seemed like the lesser of the two evils to many and for reasons I can understand. Hillary fvcked it all up. She did not have what it takes and her campaign was ineffective. I saw this coming.

Most people are simple. They want simple solutions to complex problems and The Donald had them whereas Hillary was representing the elites that simple people do not understand and do not trust. The same elites that they feel betrayed them.

These elections pretty much remind me of the Brexit disaster. Take back control was the slogan that made people feel strong and powerful again when in fact Brexit means the opposite but looking back at how the Brexiters campaigned, it was much more effective as it appealed to people in simple terms. Make America great again is a better slogan than Stronger Together.

It is all about how you sell yourself but I am pretty happy Brexiters won and Trump did so too. They must deliver now. The NHS has not seen all the millions they were promised yet and will not see them ever. grin

I want to see the wall Trump promised to build and have Mexicans pay for it. And I want to see how he will successfully isolate the USA in times of globalization, boost the economy and create the jobs. I am also waiting for more populists to govern Europe. People will be hungry soon. History repeats itself. I wish we could avoid it but since every Dick and Harry acts like an expert on politics and economics nowadays, let them deliver.
Marine Le Pen is coming to "save" France from Islam. Apparently either Austria or Hungary is getting their own candidate and Germans are getting angry with Merkel over Immigation (just like the US) and are stoking up racial forment grin Stvpidity coupled with self-serving motive is very contagious and spreading over the western world.

I didn't support Hillary because she was a woman, I grew up in the era of Margaret Thatcher and that lady will swallow and spit out Trump and Clinton without smugding her lipstick. I don't care about your gender because it is not like it qualifies you to run the Oval office. I preferred Saunders but he was a Libertarian who changed to Democrat to win. He appealed to Middle America, same ideas of trying to stimulate welfare to help them with jobs (I lived there, I understood them, my entire church voted Trump. They're racist and ignorant in a polite manner and deeply conservative). Once Saunders lost, the party fell behind Hillary and her followers and Bernie or Bust guys should have. Blacks were apathetic too: the Clintons have been demonised for years in the public eye. People even said they were juju-users and pedophiles. If I had opened a page and said I saw Hillary smoking shisha with Boko Haram leaders, even with no proof, I would be believed. It was a mistake to pick her.

Hillary's one job was to make healthcare affordable because the Republicans obstructed Obama to the point of insanity. That and to keep Russia and Putin from trying to steamroll Europe (to avoid Russians focusing on their shitty corrupt country). People in Estonia, Poland and small countries are genuinely worried that Trump is pally with Putin and won't save them. Iran will rack upore nukes quietly and Saudi will be eyeing them openly. South Korea is worried now and Canada and Mexico have sworn to punish USA for any economic infractions. China is laughing themselves off, so are a lot of Arab states, calling it the imploding of the West.

And Trump cannot bring the jobs back, it will be too expensive to produce in America so they will have to buy American-made out of loyalty and any manufacturer is going automation so they will still lose the jobs short term because it is cheaper to use AI and tech than to pay a human.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Lessons I Learnt From 2016 US Presidental Elections: Donald Trump's Victory by Onegai(f): 5:08pm On Nov 10, 2016
That people prefer to trust their feelings, their religion and their anger over any facts, knowledge, experience and preparedness. And it's okay to do whatever the hell you want to do, as long as you can tap into the popular feeling going around, you will win people over. And then screw them later. Very Nigerian behaviour. Which is what I have constantly said about Americans.

So most likely Ayo Fayose is our next President. You heard it here first! grin

Strangely, I keep seeing pictures and videos of white teens in schools chanting "go home niggurs", "cotton pickers", "white power", "build the wall" and a uni in San Diego has had an attack on a Muslim girl. Wonder what's causing all this? I mean, Trump is great for America, he's a Christian, we Nigerians (whom are Black) love himmm!!!

Family › Re: I Need Your Opinions on my marriage by Onegai(f):
Okay, thotianna, you have 2 options:

1. Spend your savings. Even though you have constantly said you contribute to the family expenditure from your salary and this is your savings, there are too many deaf people hearing the sound of their own stvpidity to actually listen. So spend away my darling! Next year, hopefully when you are broke, come back to NL. You are a wife and mother, congratulations, you qualify for the Family Section Desperate People Association. Use this your moniker to open the thread "we are about to die, hunger, God, mother, baby, last N100, help us" as keywords. I will personally find every single person that encouraged you to spend and hound them till they either send you money or deactivate and use their 9 other monikers on NL.

2. Calm down. You have gotten good advice so go take a deep breath. This is your savings, and you were already contributing to the household from your salary. So you didn't do anything wrong except in not informing him. You guys should have both made it clear how much exactly you had, together. I believe you are Igbo, maybe Catholic so I'm surprised you didn't have to do that exercise in Marriage counselling (they ask you guys how much you have and explain your replies, forcing you to see everything as "our finances"wink. Both of you will grow, both of you have a lot to learn. I made some suggestions earlier and Thorpido aptly called them "Money Conversations". Start having them. It is not a challenge, it is a dialogue. These things take time and try and have this discussions not as a wife but as a partner. A wife has certain emotional expectations of her husband, same as a husband with his wife, a partner is more objective. A partner can see things rationally in a way a spouse won't be able to because of the contractual word "Marriage" and all the fineprint that comes on the contract.

So, does this sound like a plan? No need to carry the petrol and matches just yet.

That birth better happen before the next 6 months. Having anchor babies (children birth in America to foreign parents) is something Republicans have been complaining about for years. And I don't know if you have been paying attention recently, but they just won the Senate, House of Reps and Pres by a long, white, racist margin. So most likely that law will change to UK laws: citizenship conferred only if 1 parent is American.
Latinos, Chinese and Africans have been using it to get kpalli and they just lost the election to Whites, so yeah, probably less than 6 months from now, they will change something.
Foreign Affairs › Re: 5 Reasons Why Nigerians Don't Like Donald Trump - Ovoko.com.ng by Onegai(f): 12:48pm On Nov 09, 2016
helphelp:
Trump laid an extra emphasis on the Nigerians who he referred to as ‘corrupt’ and further promised to send away because they have taken all the jobs meant for honest hard working Americans.
He said: “To Make America great again, we need to get rid of the Muslims, Mexicans and the Africans, especially the Nigerians. They take all our jobs, jobs meant for honest hard working Americans, and when we don’t give them the jobs, the Muslims blow us up.”
“We need to get the Africans out. Not the blacks, the Africans. Especially the Nigerians. They’re everywhere. I went for a rally in Alaska and met just one African in the entire state. Where was he from? Nigeria! He’s in Alaska taking our jobs. They’re in Houston taking our jobs. Why can’t they stay in their own country? Why? I’ll tell you why. Because they are corrupt
.
“Their Governments are so corrupt, they rob the people blind and bring it all here to spend. And their people run away and come down here and take our jobs! We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonize them because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!”
The reason he said Nigerians take jobs is because he is right. Check the records, Nigerian-Americans are the largest educated black people in America. From Doctor to Nurses to Engineers and Lawyers. We are taking middle-income white collar jobs from Whites. So yeah, he will probably tighten Immigration rules concerning Nigerians and in the US, push back Affirmative Action (which was allowing Nigerians take advantage of the fact that companies had to hire a diverse crowd and when they didn't have enough qualified black Americans, filled it with qualified black Nigerians). Blacks being the keyword, as the forms only ask for a race and not country of birth.

Nigerians supporting him are actually shooting themselves in the foot but being Nigerians, we won't see till it's too late. It will become harder to find Nigerian doctors running to the US and hammering there.

Nigerian homeowners in the US don't rent their houses to Section 8 (welfare) people. Most Nigerian physicians in the US don't accept Medicaid. They have good reasons for doing so. Likewise, Trump didn't want Section 8 people in his apartments. Neither will you.

He said that the judge may have been biased because he was of Mexican descent. I agreed. It was inappropriate to bring a Mexican American judge to preside over a case when it was a well known fact that Mexicans resented him.

Once again, Muslims insulted themselves. Who printed the Charlie Hebdo pictures after the writers had been murdered? Nobody dared. Why? Everyone was afraid to be killed or bombed for merely drawing photo.

Practice the Golden Rule. Don't mess with me. I won't mess with you. Muslims don't seem to know it.
God! I cannot stop laughing. All of them were Section 8, so Trump was building low-cost or medium-cost housing bah?? In one year's time, remind me about this conversation we had. Nigerian and Indian doctors, eh? Great!!

This is how you guys screamed and screamed for Buhari and are now silently taking public transport because you are poorer than before. Same with Brexit. But I know, you think that even though this idealogy has failed everywhere else, it will work in America. Good luck bro!
