PresVA:It's essential or perfume oil that gives fragrances but you should be careful with both. I don't like the smell of Lavender though (I must be the only one). But you can try very few drops. Add some shea butter in a double boiler (look it up, it's easy to do), melt it, then let it cool down, Add some olive/coconut oil and a few drops of Lavender essential oil. You can beat it with a whisk to make a fluffy body butter or just leave y to solidify, put it in the fridge. |
sayoddy:Dexterush and Tchiwinnie are in your group. |
Pretimum:Cc nurse kaffy4bill. I had Apollo once or twice in my life so I have no idea. |
How did he arrange it? Pics please? At Rofemiguwa |
Comtem2011, I think tetmosol is antibacterial but with a different active ingredient. Just because I wouldn't want baby getting immune to that antibiotic I probably wouldn't use it Eolowu1, if your baby is ebf right now there is no need for water. If you are doing combination feeding (BM and formula), maybe a little bit of water if you notice hard stool. I have no idea about Ilorin prices but why not try regular Dove soap classic and keep it out of his eyes? XX01 contact the other moms in your group and decide who will collect payment and collect books for sharing. Dunnybaby, we use Boots but Lord knows I don't trust it. We can actually whip up some lotion o. Or try Eucerin (though it's pricey everyone can use it). I'll ask the derma-doctor and see what he says. |
Chaulay1:Chaulay1, please let it go for now. Truly some Nigerians churches keep people involved in their business at the detriment of every other aspect of their life. Please feel free to step down for a bit and ask the HOD to announce in church that they need help in your department. Because I have seen (and heard of marriages) being disrupted over this matter and I don't understand why the HODs/pastors don't immediately prioritise Family Duties over Church Duties. If the family is shaky, how will the church stand firm? Your family comes first. God doesn't want you neglecting your kids for His work, especially at an age where they need you. I'd like to see the bible verse that says it is okay to abandon small kids for God's work or neglect one's spouse. Which is why Catholic priests and nuns don't marry. I know maids tend to like saying those things (why would one proudly boast that your employer's child likes you more?). Let her go to the market. You can cook, but let her do the cleaning. Can you get more flexible hours? Is there a creche near work that will allow baby and maid? Try and go through some of the activities posted a few pages before, they are very suitable for a 9 month old and both of you do it together. Is DH willing to join in? I like dumping Baby E on Himself so that she gets comfortable with him (he works your type of hours). They spend time together so she isn't preferring our help to him. Weekends, bone those weddings and go to a park or a beach or somewhere public (I've come to realise we have one or two in each city), family play time, let the maid stay home and be cooking. This is one of the reasons I like Mummy-and-Me groups. Nigeria, for all its talk about Family values, is not family-oriented. My sis was just telling me about paid Maternity leave in the U.K. sigh. |
Jewel90:Yes. But know this, if he ate very well during the day, he's not hungry but it is a habit. It is hard to accept and everyone told me this but I am just finally breaking our habit at 15 months. If you know he's eating well, give him water when he wakes up. A lot of times, once babies realise there is food at a particular time they will tune their bodies to it. Once he stops realising no more midnight snack and yummy breastmilk, he will adjust himself. But the problem is that you will feel it is not time, that "oh the poor darling must be starving" (I did all that too). When I was determined to sleep at night I started saying "No" and she screamed me all over. Then the crying started reducing and now she wakes up and goes back to sleep herself (after locating me and lying down on top of one part of my body, leg, head, back, anywhere). If I had the willpower i would have listened to everyone and I would have been sleeping at least 5 hours uninterrupted since 10 months. |

cutiereborn: We are so glad we have 2 duvets on the bed, so we spread it on the floor. No matter how fast she crawls to the edge, by the time she gets there we have rearranged ourselves. Or we relocate to the parlour like teenagers. But not on the sofa (in case anyone who reads this ever visits me and goes "ewwwww" inwardly when I say "please sit down" )See what children have caused. #TickledThursday |
tearoses:Sometimes, people wait and chill to have their revenge. It's common for widows to be dispossessed. You come one day and you find the gate to youe house padlocked. Or they want to discuss the family finances and they ask the wife (of over 30 years o) to leave the room. As if she knew nothing or did not contribute to what her husband built. They should exhume the body, in fact if I were the widow I would get a court order to threaten to do so, so they don't spend the rest of her life hurling accusations against her and encouraging church members to report her actions so they can find fault. Abeg, men once you marry and it has been 5 years, make a will. And for pete's sake make a very good decision on whom to execute your properties to. Several men have left it to their own siblings, passed away and the sibling start treating his kids like tenants in their fathers home. |
Schwartz:Yup, MSG is the problem. Even worse, the Nigerian Nutrional Society endorses Indomie Noodles. No other country in their right mind does. |
Kidco and soonest pleaae share your "catching story" #TickledThursday. If I am ever caught I will deny it to the point the child will be confused at what they saw. |
Today is #TICKLEDTHURSDAY! the day we share funny stories of us and our kids. So I apparently live with an Interior Decorator, Because my little girl is constantly moving things around (we are looking for remote controls, ATM cards, a handset, some makeup, one or two earrings, one black wallet and some pencils. Please if you see them, let me know). Because of her decorating skills, I try and chase her away when I notice her moving towards my jewelry box. So this morning, I was drinking water and she realised it was her chance and went for it. Sharply I jumped at her ...and used my head to hit her wooden crib, spilled the water and then hit my mouth against the wooden frame of the bed. Now my mouth is swollen and the tooth there is wobbly and worse, my husband laughed and gave her the entire jewelry box to play it (he wanted his wallet back). Sigh. |
Eolowu1, can you find Dove Pure and sensitive soap? Johnson's can be harsh on babies' skins Contem2011 is Tetmosol an antibacterial soap? If it is, check back a few pages to what we wrote on antibacterial soaps: they're not so good for people and the U.S. is banning it. |

Jennykoko3009:Madam, please try the search eh, I checked for you because I couldn't remember. zaynie said: A cube of st louis sugar crushed in palm oil, not too watery or thick and give half a teaspoon 2-3 hours apart. But i don't know about the age if it is safe. Are you aure it may not be an allergy because sometimes allergy is cough and runny nose (those are my symptoms). Please try the sugar-oil first. |
Tojued:Madam it is N2500 o. I usually tell him who will contact him so please mention me when you are speaking to him because I negotiated with him to give us lower shipping rates when he could. So if you call him now, he is expecting to speak to Tojued and will agree to N2500 (hopefully). |
Tojued, as per your position on Traditional methods. I agree with some and I disagree with others. I have drank lemongrass to help with feverish symptoms. But I wouldn't give Agbo to my child because I cannot trust the people making it nowadays (anyone can declare herself to be a native healer and mix engine oil and camphor with leaves. As for the baby exercise, yeah you can massage but not throw the baby up and down and shake it. One of my family friends said he has treated baby with Shaking Syndrome (I think he said they had damage to their brain or skull). Fearlessness will not be affected, Caucasians are not throwing their babies anywhere and they are the ones skydiving and bungee-jumping ![]() |

MetroTee:I found him on Facebook, Its Kidco Sylvester Omosun. I think that's his name. He has singing books but they are priced slightly more expensive (I thought about asking him yesteday). |
So proud of this darling! We pray you soar to the top of the sport. |
Tojued:I tried sending email and it bounced, so please this is Kidco contact: 09032730510 Mr Sylvester please tell him you are rhe Abuja mum. Mukht and Maran1983 also in your group and |
Mumjb:Ah please do not give any child sleeping tablet! There's no safe dosage for a toddler you are putting him in great danger. Wow. Toddlers are very naughty, mine used to wake up anyhow until recently because we were still breastfeeding. Let him cry it out, we had to and at least from 10.30pm till 5pm she's asleep (she wakes up and goes back immediately). We tried sleep training but she resisted until now. |
GodMercy2015:Does it say from 4-6 months on the pot? If it does, it's fine. But if you can wait a bit till 5 months because introduction of solids is usually a time for constipation. |
Mummy-And-Me Groups/Classes This is for a few hours every week. For mothers looking for places to drop their kids for the day and go do errands or whatever, there are places which offer those services (I know 2 in my area and they are open weekends). This isn't it. A Mummy-and-me group is not a paid service, it is a group of mother's and their kids hanging out. So the mother has to be present. When my friend organised hers, with older kids she and another mum could organise day trips for them and other mums could watch the babies who couldn't go. Not a paid service but a community service. A lot of creches in Nigeria, the first thing they do is buy tv and get DSTV and toys. I have never heard of storytime (maybe they do but I tend to hear from people who are opening daycares as their business and they themselves use books as decor so they won't offer that service in their daycare). It is in Pre-K they start doing activities they should have done since, some creches and daycares will potty-train your child though. Kids will develop fast because they are spending time with older kids (a plus for creches) but then they got a plateau at a certain stage (below 5 years) and it begins to be measured according to individual child and the input he/she gets. Location will be determined by the mothers doing it. In the Island, they have 2 parks. In Ikeja and Alausa, they have even more parks. Festac i believe has 1 park (I see it when people are having weddings). For those whom don't want to use their homes, there are venues like restaurants (whom are looking to fill up space and attract clientele) that are amenable to this sort of arrangement (they already do such for social events like dancing, natural hair meetups and more). If a mother decides to organise one in Surulere, no problem. It's not supposed to be a paying service. If I am organising one, I would do it in a park around my area, tell mums coming that they should bring enough food to share for 2 kids (I'm not expecting jollof rice but bananas and cheerios and biscuits, snacks to be precise), bring plastic toys (we are in public, I will provide antibacterial wipes), wrappers and blankets to sit on and be ready to clean up after we are done. For mothers who work (particularly in Lagos), they tend to suffer the strains of Motherhood without the pleasures of it. I know mothers who drop babies off at 7am and pick them up at 6pm. They miss the milestones and playtime because it's dinner and bedtime once they get home. This is a chance for you to realise your child is a generous sharer, a powerful singer or hugger or a great dancer by spending quality time with your child. There would be rules about some certain behaviours but basically it's an open group. People have pregnancy classes that are not paid for during antenatal and invite medical people to give talks and offer each other support. NOTE: We don't have to start this now. May i suggest we at least get the book drive done successfully then start thinking of this. I'm just reposting this for explanation's sake. Thanks |
imurboss:Kidco is selling 50 books for N12,000 for children of different ages. You can choose to get 50 for yourself or share with other mamas in our area. A Mummy-And -Me group can also be formed in your area for hanging out and doing activities with your kids. I will find a link explaining more. |
fearless07:Welcome, welcome! Please share your experiences with us and help answer questions from us newbies and FTMs. |
comtem2011:Amen and amen! Thank you foe the prayer. |
Tojued:Cc muhkt Tchiwinnie, is Okota around Cele? I don't know places too well. The books are 50 for N12,000 so we are making up groups according to our closest locations and buying together and sharing it. So I'll make a group for you because I dont think anyone else around there has started. |
Rofemiguwa, we know you are capable that is why we made you Class captain! Please add the anonymous mama and share the N13,000 into 5 places so you know how much everyone is paying. Tojued and Abuja mamas, you guys are 4 in number so you can either buy or wait for one more person. KIDCO said it is N2,500 to ship to Abuja. So that is N12,000+2500 = N14,500. So you divide it according to your eventual number. |
marionclaire:Baby girl, please Google "Yeast Infection for babies in diaper area" and confirm you don't have that situation on your hands. If not, get some Sudocrem. As per Pampers, I think it is pretty easy to find but check supermarkets and ask for Imported Pampers. I don't like Nigerian Pampers because they don't have quality control, you can get a pack and it is good and you can buy another pack and it is poorly made (and falling apart) and it has perfume (which can aggravate a rash). But if it works for you, get the imported one. Or try Molfix. For cloth diapers, you can buy from Konga or cloth diapers.com.ng. Alphahandmaiden also had one seen with great instructions. i feel the buying options here are a bit limited so I'm trying to work on something that will bring more cloth diaper options (and i promise to test it on my child and be honest with my review so if it doesn't work, we will find one that does). Here's a link to an article which will help you figure out if it's just a diaper rash or a yeast infection: https://m.moms.com/moms-expertise/46746/how-to-spot-the-difference-between-a-yeast-infection-and-plain-diaper-rash/ |
