maureensylvia:There is nothing wrong with the books per se and anyone who lives in Nigeria has most likely bought or is wearing something second-hand. I would laugh if anyone told me otherwise to my face. I will still endorse him, as a viable option to those who don't want to spend N1500 or N2500 per book. As long as he now uses a better method of shipping because his current one isn't so effective and as long he tells them what type of books they are. In every business, there must be unsatisfied customers and it is dependent on the business owner to offer Customer Service. Which is what I would like him to do. That's all. Kidco, that is the link for Tranex below: http://tranex-ng.com they seem to be pretty good. So many businesses use them. Please give Maran1983 a call, and firstly make apology for not getting back to her on time and refund her money and make arrangement for collecting the books. If I were you, since you didn't sent what she ordered for, I'd ask her to keep one book as a Sorry for messing up your order. You've made a profit here, you can afford to be nice to her. Good Customer service is much more important than being right or even getting the product right. |
Kidco, these are 2 of the books you sent yesterday. One had stickers removed and the other had pencilled answers to questions. My sis came alone to pick the books so her kids definitely didn't do it and mine can barely speak, talkless of write. Everyone, please judge whether that is a new or used book. Just be clear: gently used books. Still works for its purpose. |
kidco:Please refund Maran1983 since she has said she doesn't want the books. Also, Maran1983, please mention here when you have sent all the books back to Kidco. CSS bookstores have a branch in Abuja and they also have a mix of new and gently used books. So you can see upfront what you're getting. Kidco, you didn't tell anyone the books were second-hand until Rofemiguwa said so and you came here to state that it was just her pack and all other books were new after hers. I received the shipment of books you sent to me yesterday evening (it was actually for my sister's kids but she had me handle the purchase) and she and I were both surprised to see they weren't brand new and one even had pencil writings in it (the original owner had answered the questions). I wasn't very excited about the quality of books either and I personally feel that I will go to CSS bookshop and get some books in addition to yours. They may be more expensive but that's what I'm willing to get. However, in future please be very clear on what you're selling. I'll screen grab the part where you mentioned on NL that the new shipment of books were new and I'll send a pic of the second-hand books. It is a okay deal and the books serve their purpose still, for any mother wanting to go ahead but be clear: he is selling second-hand books. As for shipping, may I suggest you use C.Tranex group? They charge the rates you are charging and are a professional company that schedule delivery, complete with Waybills. That way, everyone receives their orders on time with no issues. Almost all the companies that send out deliveries use them, as I have bought stuff online and they have handled the delivery for most of my goods. I have no affiliate with them. |

Jamal080, some people don't want to live abroad. It can be due to a number of reasons: not being comfortable, fear of starting over, isolation, bad stories about what happens to marriages etc. Your case is dire, you can barely eat, barely send your kids to school and that Federal Govt salary is meagre (she must be below level 10) and not going to grow anytime soon. And she has benefit of free school and Healthcare. But what will you guys do when you get there, whom will you stay with, do you have contacts to explain the system? Are you planning on living on benefits for the rest of your life? How strong is your marriage? One can't just throw up everything and leave, have a plan and some small savings to last you 6 months. Maybe sit down with her and discuss these things and find a good contact and brush up on your skills and hers. England isn't that great for jobs for new migrants but you can sort yourself out with the right information and God's favour. Some people are very afraid of starting afresh. I know a lot of dual citizenship holders who have good things going on here and know that at the point they are in their lives, starting afresh won't work. Same as some people who relocated back to Nigeria without a good plan and fell flat on their face. |
Lillypearl, I knew a child who also started having seizures. It does happens to babies and they actually sell the medicine for it here. I don't want to mention it here to avoid you attempting to self-medicate. However, tell your present doctor to refer you to LUTH or UCH. You need a Consultant Pediatrician who will refer you to a Neurologist. They need to diagnose what's wrong. I think you should get on Facebook and locate your husband. Send him a simple message: "Hello I hope you've been well. I'm sorry for cutting off all contact, I felt it was the best way to handle our situation at that time. However, there is something going on now: our out daughter is sick. She's getting treatment. I wanted to inform you so you could decide if you would like to visit her and check up on her. We will not discuss our marriage but please let us focus on being good parents for her during this trying time. I'll understand if you need a bit of time to understand what's going on but this is not the time for us to argue or trade blame. Thanks". Don't ask for money, when he comes around, then share your concerns about her medical bills only and accept that afterwards if he does pay towards her upkeep, he gets to visit her and spend time with her. As for marriage, you need to sit down and look inward: how could I have done things better, what am I willing to do and what can I accept and what can I change and where are my boundaries? Do I need to be slower to anger and rashness, do I need to speak up when need be and be concise, do I need to be more conciliatory, do I need to be firmer on some things and learn how to communicate better my needs, do I need to learn how to be more understanding and cut him a break? Those are questions that have answers that must come from within. It may never work with him, but at least you owe it to yourself to make you a better person so you can be a better mother. If along the way, he brings up a reconciliation, ask him what he wants from a marriage and explain what you want. All the best. |
frenchwine:That's quite sad. People will still ignore the dangers though so it's going to continue being a growing problem. |
How is everyone this rainy day? Did it rain all over Nigeria? For mums with kids back in school, how has returning to school runs gone? Here's something I saw. So next time they tell you a SAHM doesn't work, show them that ![]()

Liftedhands, I was going to mention add Spring Onions to your formula and scrambled eggs. That's what we did because for a while, Green wasn't her favourite colour for food. |
mitchyy:You're not supposed to rub it after. Max is to place something pretty cold against the swelling. I think the lump is normal, but I'm not sure. |
shaybebaby:That's surprising to know. Nice pictures. |
I believe No.2 because as a child it is the only explanation of what happened to a relative of mine. He was playing with a door and knicked off a fingertip. A doctor told us to put it back. He's fine, 43 years later with full fingers. Babies, just like lizards. |
rezzy:Mehn you make me want to buy sewing machine o... |
Emary:Tamsin and a few other gardens have Bromeliads. |
dexterush:No problem. My point is, please do it gently. Kids never forget stuff and a lot of things you guys may like about me, used to get me into all sorts of trouble as a child because everyone wanted me to conform and they kept trying to correct me in the harshest manner ever. Not trying to tell you how to parent, just showing you the other side of things. |
Rezzy and Dexterush, Before una keel ya pikins in da name of Stopping Sucking of Thumb let me give you this gist: once there was a little boy who sucked his thumb. His siblings tried plaster, bitterleaf, Iodine, Aloe Vera (or maybe not, it wasn't popular back then), beating and even tying him up. They gave up eventually and said he would be a dumbo. Today, that boy builds planes. As in, airplanes. If you have ever travelled to England or the U.S. and used an Airbus (airlines like Virgin and Delta and co used them), you have most likely enjoyed his work. Infact, the new set of airplanes beings designed are coming from his hands. He also drives a $25,000 car and travels a lot for holidays (he's dating, he sadly never dated a Nigerian girl). So, maybe your little thumbsucker may be a "black Bill Gates in the making" (Beyonce lyric ). Don't let it annoy you too much and just gently ease him out of it. Because he said the sibling who was gentlest with him about the matter is the one he really likes till now. I've seen adult nail biters but never adult thumb suckers and in trying to stop something harmless in the long run, cause resentments and perceived notions about stuff. By the way, when i was freaking out about not EBF, that same boy told me "don't sweat the small stuff. Breast milk is important but you being a good mum even more so and this is 6 months out of a lonnnnggg life". He's a smart boy. |
Liftedhands, babies tend to refuse milk. It happens. My niece refused milk and even Cerelac and went straight to solids. Baby E refused milk and will take it added with cereal. You may want to consider looking up food substitutes, I don't know about Soy (there's a lot of back and forth about it), but there are other foods rich in Calcium and Vitamin D. We give Cheese (Mozzarella and Cheddar) when our pockets are feeling rich (usually from Shoprite or SPAR). |
eolowu1:Wow. Pete to him. They say you can apply something from the freezer, even a very cold bowl but don't press too hard on the swelling, just use the cold thing to touch the swelling and leave it there for a few minutes. |
comtem2011:Amen and Amen. |
So....? What's going on now? I just checked, you logged in a few minutes ago. |
Awww, look at her smiling. Baby E got bathed from Daddy and he couldn't believe how much water she splashed on him. He said it was like "bathing an octopus". |
Good morning Mamas. It's Saturday Morning Prayer time. Who will lead us? |
Take her out. She will appreciate that more than any gift. Just you and her, day before her birthday. |
Tojued:Lagos state offers Maternity leave. LASG even provides creche in some of its parastatals. NLC doesn't know its job. Their own is to use your head and start strike action for 3 days and collect money at the end of the strike. Mothers in offices can actually approach their HR about creche close by or in the building if there is space. It relates to work productivity. You don't have to run from your offices early to pick up a child. Stop being worried about your jobs, they will fire you so easily for silly reasons in this Nigeria that you may as well make it count. If you are an asset to your company, they will keep you happy. I'm speaking from experience. Don't expect immediate change and think things through carefully and have a plan. United, we win. |
comtem2011:That is precisely what happened to me and what every mother who was complaining about. The S&P inside spilled and started touching Baby E's skin. It irritated her and she scratched till she bled. It was at night so we didn't notice until she couldn't sleep and we checked. I even have pictures. Other mothers complained yet Pampers Nigeria cannot be bothered to check their Quality control so that every diaper leaving their Turkish factory for Nigeria is sound? They cannot even be bothered to provide a Customer Care Number? They are spending millions on endorsement deals without caring of their product is defective? Have you guys even seen the difference in construction between Huggies US diapers and Huggies Nigeria diapers? I have and I have laughed in derision. Half your leakage issues stems from poorer materials and substandard design. We can do a side by side picture comparison. But they are collecting your money. Why are we paying for Rotavirus, the government gets the vaccines subsidised and sells it to private hospital a, who charge a premium for it. Every Nigerian parent will testify that their baby under the age of 1 year is most susceptible to Diahreaa yet you have to pay expensively for vaccines that will help protect your child. It's not about supporting me. We are all in this together. A thought came to me and it may be upsetting to hear this but please do: This is not my fight. This is not about my child. God has enabled us to be able to afford to give our child options. But what about everyone else? Are you able to give your child options? Is your neighbour, is your co-worker, your family, can they give their child options? So if you read this, and just pass or you read, type and forget, you're part of the problem. Because the issue affects you more and you're unwilling to help. You're waiting for God and strangers to come down and do your job for you. Lagos mums, next time you go for Immunisation at Health centres, start talking to other mothers. Whom are your LG chairmans? Someone must know who is Commissioner of Health is. If you have to make it trend on Twitter, start a hashtag and let everyone push it. Ambrose actually does have his media people monitor Twitter. Get this on in the frontpage of Nairaland, Genevieve or whatever Nollywood actor or Snake can wait. Someone open a thread on this. Take your time, do your research, start it. You can effect that change. Let us start with Rotavirus vaccine. Cc Tojued |
MadCow1:Deturla, this above is the truth. There are a few NGOs that do cleaning but the residents will have to turn out in large numbers to support the effort and keep it clean permanently. We cannot keep going to help people who refuse to help themselves. However, there are a lot of NGOs in Nigeria that are all about collecting money. So they go to Ilaje to do a photo-op. |
So mothers, recently I decided to try Pampers diapers and I had a horrendous experience. I checked online and I saw I was not the only one having the same issues. It is a very common issue. But no-one was doing anything about it and when I complained, it was Pampers International that was replying, Pampers Nigeria couldn't be bothered but made sure Instagram was flooded with pics of Tiwa Savage and her son (even when someone tweeted the issue at her, no response). I spoke to a friend and she told me that we should band and do something. She always says that there are laws in Nigeria but nobody bothers to make anyone accountable so everyone breaks it. Why should we be giving a company our money when they are producing poor substandard goods? Why are we paying for vaccines that affect us more (in the U.S. they pump treated water and give Rotavirus free, in Nigeria we don't get treated water and pay for Rotavirus. All vaccines are from government sold to private). We accept so much nonsense and just manage and adjust ourselves. And suffer for it and yet be complaining. There's something known as a Class Action suit. A group of people can sue a company to change their regulations or products. In Nigeria, it has happened (I believe MyPikin Teething Powder was a case because babies died) and I know Golden Morn (Nestle) came specifically to Nairaland to announce that Golden Morn wasn't infant cereal (avoiding a lawsuit). People have sued in this Nigeria and won. People have changed things in Nigeria and they were ordinary people. People like us. I believe if we start talking, here to every mother, we can get Rotavirus given freely. And let us vote with our money: I will never endorse Pampers even if I am given a carton free because it is a shoddy product and it inspired me to start looking for good options in cloth diapers available. I believe we can make enough of a fuss online and get foreign mothers involved in making Cerelac (Nestle) change their formulation for West Africa to reduce the amount of sugar in it according to all their other standards. Someone went to Ghana and said the nonsense we accept in Nigeria that other West African countries and even East Africa does not accept, but Nigerians accept and accomodate, is baffling. So, yeah. Let's think big. #EndRant |

comtem2011:Really? Didn't know that. Rofemiguwa, you can use disposable at night and cloth during the day, I do that but my friend cloth diapers at night too. Amhappy, I donr know the PH hospital but one mum mentioned it. It will most likely be a govt hospital so start from there. We took Rotavirus and didn't have stooling during teething but I don't know if there is a correlation. Rotavirus should be free because we are not getting clean, govt treated water. |
I'm glad Pneumoccocal is now free in Lagos. Someone I know went for the conference on vaccines in India and insisted we take it (Nigeria and India have the lowest rate of giving it). I'm beginning to suspect he had a hand in influencing the decision because he's a consultant who does a lot of International and Govt Funded research in Children and Disease. So when will they make Rotavirus free as well? Crazily, some parents in the U.S. are increasingly saying they don't want their children vaccinated because they feel it is related to rising cases of Autism and other mental illnesses. Which has been unproven mostly. But doctors and government other there are now seeing rising cases of illnesses that have disappeared in the past and are insisting kids get vaccinated or no school for them. I knew a bunch of those moms and they used to be so horrified that I was willingly taking all the necessary vaccines and I had to tell them "come to Nigeria, people are paying thousands for the free offer you are rejecting". |
