Taison Horticulture Centre

There are gardeners and there are Professional Gardeners. People who have invested time and effort into their business. Taison Horticultural centre is a Professional Gardening outfit. Located in Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Taison has been in the business for 20 years. They are into pet sale, Water landscaping (fountains and reflection pools), landscaping and gardening.

I walked in to speak to their proprietor and I left amazed. It's gorgeous and she has so many exotic plants. It's an amazing place. She is also a fountain of knowledge. You know when she advises you accurately on the type of fertiliser to use, best pot container and location, the NPK ratios in each manure type, and you check online and it's all there, confirmed by University departments around the world, you know you're in good hands. Taison is passionate about gardeners. Just talking to the proprietor taught me more about Gardening than reading online. She understands our climate so will tell you "this plant doesn't do well in Lekki because of the sea spray, it's better in Ikeja".

The first thing I saw as I walked in was their Terrarium. I laughed because they are the first place I've ever seen them in Nigeria. She builds terrariums for clients. She also cultivates Bonsai (Japanese Miniature Gardening). The proprietor is an Arts lover and a supporter of the Arts so she designs her plants and pots.

Taison is a decently-priced garden, you pay for what you get and they are very generous, their proprietor stresses that Taison is for the Middle Class garden lover, they cater to everyone so don't feel shy or think they are out of your budget! She has a large collection of hard to find plants in Nigeria (orchids, succulents, Angel trumpets, Monda grass, Papyrus, Jacob's ladder, Ponytail palms, Jade plant, Money plant, Gerbera Daisies, so many flowering cactuses). And they won't just sell you a plant, they will tell you how to maintain it.

Taison supports the Environment and Children's Education. The proprietor used to sponsor a yearly Art event on World Environmental Day for kids. Taison offers tours for children and also a pottery painting class. They give coupons and discounts out so check out their website or follow them on Instagram.

There is a massive post coming tomorrow about a very popular and reknowned Professional Gardener in Lagos state. So get ready for it!

Tonight, I'll leave you with this clever idea: cover up ugly plumbing (which we have a lot of because you know...our artisans...aren't quite the best...), cover it up with Snake plants. They do well in places without light or with light and are hard to kill.

Seriously. They are hard to kill. I'm still trying to kill one I own. Not happening.

Great stuff!

Remember girls, they love you natural, with a smooth even said complexion. But don't bleach or tone. Also make time to go to the gym, after your 9-5 (to bring in your share of the expenses) and mad traffic and cooking stew fresh from scratch and bathing the kids (whilst he takes a much-needed break in front of the telly).

And if he cheats, ladies, it's your fault and God's fault: you weren't perfect and God made Man polygamous in Nature (then strangely told him to cleave to one woman several times in the bible and even pointed out the dangers of polygamy with different characters but nooooo, that doesn't suit their narrative so out the window!). grin

Comstipation in Babies from 6 months

It's actually quite common for babies to get constipated once they start solids and it can last for a long time. If you don't handle it properly, it could lead to a visit to the hospital or worse, poor toilet habits (my aunt has an 11 year old son who still gets constipated).

Baby poo isn't supposed to be hard. And when it is, baby starts to feel uncomfortable and cry when it is time to poo. He may even dance around in discomfort, stamping his feet on the ground or lie down, raise his legs and stiffen them. Accompanied by straining, grunting and a lot of crying.

Constipation is caused by a lack of water in the system relative to what the child needs. Your child may be drinking plenty water but if he is eating a carb-heavy diet (rice, spaghetti, noodles, bread etc) the water may not be enough for his system. Constipation can be caused by eating too many dairy foods (milk and yorghurt etc), not eating enough vegetables and fibre foods. But the main treatment is to give water. Which can be hard as your baby may refuse to cooperate.

Try giving juice. I prefer juice I make myself rather than Ribena and co. Juice fruits like Golden Melon, Apple, Pear. Watermelon doesn't need much juice and is very nutritious and has a high water content. People do give Orange and Pineapple but I read that it sometimes causes diaper rash in some kids due to the acidity (and that is precisely what happened with us), so give it very diluted and in small quantities.

Apply coconut oil to the baby's anus to help lubricate things and reduce the amount of tearing. Tearing does happen with constipation and will look like dried bits of tomato in baby's stool (that's blood).

For laxatives, there is a drug (i won't mention it) but even paediatric nurses advised me against giving it until I had tried other methods. My aunt with the 11 year old gave her son (as a baby) this and he got used to it, rather than learning to drink more water. Which is why the nurses stopped me from doing the same. I've heard of Liquid edible paraffin but some doctors don't like it because it's a by-product of the oil and gas industry (too chemical-y for them). Prunes are a natural laxative but it can be hard to find (i checked the whole of the island, I have never seen prune juice or prune puree for babies. In 9 months). But guess what? A prune is simply a dried plum. Yup. And plums are sold everywhere (Shoprite, Spar, most supermarkets). You can dry the plums in the sun yourself to make prunes (takes a month to make) or blend the plums with water. If you find packaged prunes (usually in the breakfast or snack section of supermarket), simply blend with water and lemon juice. Give baby a lot and all will be well. Lots of sips of water during the day at any time really helps. Some doctors also recommend flaxseeds, ground and sprinkled in baby cereal (flaxseed is sold at Ebeano, Shoprite and Spar or from most Natural Hair Care companies).

Most Nigerian doctors won't tell you this because they are not taught this in school (it takes a while for a doctor to mature into his/her learning and be able to mix homeopathic remedies and conventional medicine). Plus most of them don't eat these things. Prunes and flaxseeds are not local food. If anyone knows a local food that will help, please share

Change baby's diet: reduce the amount of starchy foods and carbs. For example we ate pureed carrot, green peas, spring onion and red onion with fish as dinner. It was delicious and consisted of proteins and vegetables. Normally, i would have added sweet potato to the mix. Even as an adult you can see that those ingredients are a salad mix and salads are good for you.

If you are worried and wish to go to the hospital, feel free to take a clear picture of what your baby's poo looks like and you can always take a sample to the hospital (they want to see it rather than you describe it to them). I usually study Baby E's poo because in Animal Husbandry, that is one of the best ways of checking on the health of an animal. And yes, humans are animals.

You have to continue treatment for a few days to clear up baby's system. It is quite exhausting so you may have to stay home with baby for a few days because I'm not sure the kind of creche out there that will give your baby that much attention (when he's cranky and other babies need attention too).

If all else doesn't work, no poo shows up in 4-5 days, go to the hospital and they will recommend the drug for you. It is rather effective and is a last stop solution. But the issue of constipation won't go away unless you up baby's water intake.

Below are pictures of plums and prunes. I'd post a picture of constipated poo but some of us here may not have strong constitutions grin

Actually I understand United leaving. You cannot compare the volume of traffic from Nigeria-U.K. to Nigeria-U.S. And most of the Nigerians flying to be U.S. flew to Texas or Maryland. Which are not United Airlines hub. Delta Airlines is going nowhere.

Emirates I'm surprised about. Dubai is a very lucrative route for them but I hear people are not travelling as much. I know a lot of people who have cancelled summer family plans. I guess that's why they are reducing.

The flagil for kids leaflet says from one year up and 2.5ml, the biastop leaflet says from 3years old so I don't bother to open it. The flagil, I minimize to 0.5ml. Since Friday, he started taking it, there's no
difference.

Experienced mamas pls what should be done. The stooling is too much
Since the drugs are not working and you're concerned, stop all of them. Let's not overburden that liver. There's this food thingie known as BRAT (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) that children and adults take when stooling (those foods usually help solidify the poo). If your baby is old enough to start solids. He can start on rice cereal, mashed banana, pureed apple and bread.

I don't think it's the same for everyone.
Mine is only 4months old and I feel like my old self. Have felt so for a while now. I had to rest and refrain from any form of sexual penetration for the recommended 6weeks post partum. But that was it.

Let's not scare her now.

Sometimes fear and expecting unpleasant experiences can actually make such happen.
Anecdotally, I think for most women it's back to normal at 4 months after. Are we scaring her? I wish I had known these things, so I would have been more prepared as to what happened rather than "surprise!".

OP, it's not all bad and it's not all pushing daisies. It's actually the best time to bond with your husband, if he plays his cards right and you do your part, your marriage will be strengthened smiley and so many girls do 3 hours of pushing, produce a baby and are back to business as usual 1 month after. Every woman is different.

Rilokiley, it's Mother Nature's way of protecting the species (after doing her best to kill it grin). Nature wants to make sure the newborn gets the best chance at survival and nurture by Exclusive Breastfeeding, Baby's need for constant attention (the human being is the most helpless of all animals at birth, it could die easily compared to all other animals) and Hormonal changes which affect her libido. This makes the mother not want to get pregnant anytime soon so she pushes the father away because she's not in the mood for sex. And the newborn gets breastmilk and attention required during the crucial stages. So most women are fine by 4 months postpartum but depending on things like how traumatic labour was, it could take longer for some mums. So yeah, sex will be going through the motions for that time (your doctor will recommend KY jelly and encourage you to be patient with madam). The best way to overcome this is for the husband to help out with the baby and domestic chores. I'm serious. A nurse asked mothers in Healthcare section and almost all of them replied that the more the husband helped out, the more sex happened. Your wife will feel guilty and want to reward you for your loving care. Mentally what happens is that she acknowledges you're part of the parental bond when you do so and welcomes you back in (it will take a while before she becomes enthusiastic but at least you will be shining her Congo till then).

She's not lying about a lot. Every single girl I knew doing Aristo got married on time. Every one of them. Guys told me that was what would happen and I refused to believe it until I witnessed it. As long as the runs was done codedly, that chick was on track to dance to the altar on time.

And every cheating man knows what he is doing. I remember telling some male friends about a confused ex and they told me "he's not confused, he doesn't like you enough to make you his Number 1 choice". A home wrecker is someone who want after your man but he opened the door to let her into your marriage. Insult both of them but dish extra punishment to your cheating husband. And for all those "your husband will come back home", yes he may but in what shape? He will come back home but bring his pregnant mistress with him and you and your children will spend the rest of your life fighting her and her children whilst he decides to reward himself with yet another chick (just that this time, he will be smart enough not to make that one wife no.3). This is a real-life situation here.

This is the world we live in.

Stylesco, even if you did CS, you realise most women lose their libidos immediately after birth right? As in, it's a hormonal thing. You will feel raped everytime you have sex for 2 or 3 months until you mentally begin to accept your body back (it will feel like he's invading you and your child). And then sex will be at a minimum because after your child wakes up 4 times a night (which will happen till the age of 1 or more years old), you and your hubby will be too exhausted to be going at it like Spring Chickens.

You knew all this, right... sad

You must have had an epidural.I'm not sure anyone can be relaxed when the pains and contractions come surging.
Not until almost the end. I refused it (they insisted on giving me a diluted IV painkiller which I took onxe) and I did breathing exercises and watched the monitor so I knew when contractions were coming. It still wasn't pretty but yeah, in my hospital they are medication-trigger-happy. They will pile meds on you and disappear when you start having issues with taking them. My lactation consultant said she had seen too many mums with newborn babies from that hospital who were a bit woozy from what they had gone through from birth.
Family › Re: How Do I Handle This Without Overdoing It by Onegai(f): 9:23pm On Jun 29, 2016
You can choose to do what rolled did. Sometimes it works and it's a long game. But love yourself and or at for yourself and your child and ignore that man. When it if he decides to be your husband again, we can see. It will take time.

Or you can carry matches to your marriage, since your husband is brandishing kerosene threatening to burn it down. May as well take him up on his offer. Go back to your parents. Leave a message on his Facebook wall, "hello honey if you are looking for me, I have gone back to where you met me. When you are ready to stop destroying our marriage with (mention the girl's facebook account name here), please ask my parents what to do next."

If you're concerned about airing your laundry and what people will say, ask yourself this "will I put on a happy smile and die inwardly? Which does my child need more, an appearance of happiness or two parents doing the right thing?"

My fear is if that girl gets pregnant, you become a co-wife. He's emotionally invested in that one girl, that's not a side chic, that is a mistress. And mistresses like getting upgraded to Wife.

*Deep sigh*... Please, i would appreciate anyone shedding more light on how to avoid tears and reduce pain in vaginal birth delivery for a first timer.
Exercise. You need to be fit (trust me) because labour is like a marathon. Don't sit your butt down during pregnancy, it will hurt more. I didn't (swam at 7 months walked till I got to the hospital) and it took me till 7cm dilation and the fact that my cheering team left me to the mercy of the new nurse (who wanted me prepped in case I needed surgery so she pushed mentally for an epidural). I don't think I tore a lot, becausd i was driving around the next week and I wasn't taking my sitz bath serious. That place is all muscles that need to be stretched. It's either you have sex regularly or give yourself a massage with fingers down there. In Nigeria, some matrons will call your husband and tell him to "hammer you well/drill you" a week to your due date till you deliver. An orgasm expands and contracts those muscles, making them loose enough to push better.

Hilarous story: someone told me when she went into labour, her husband was given a shaving stick to remove all her hair "down there". When he objected (because he said his Johnny will go to attention), the matron told him that's why husband suppose shave am. Make u knack am well so she go open push quick" grin grin grin grin

Epidural injection will help you reduce the pian.
Having a tear will depend on the size of the baby.A good doctor or midwife will give you a cut which can be stitched better than let you have a tear. Most first-timers have tears/cuts but not every first-timer has a tear.
I'm not sure what I had. All I remember was seeing my hoohah being sewn. grin

And ladies, here's a surprise waiting for you: if the epidural is too strong and the OB feels that you cannot labour properly because of it, he will instruct the anaestologist to reduce the epidural and the nurses will tell you "honey you better push quickly before the painkillers wear off" grin

There's nothing like that feeling when you took an epidural and you relaxed, only for you to enter the final stretch screaming in anguish. I made sure I pushed sharparly. Infact I be baddo, i refused epidural till 7cm!
