If you are all serious, look for a lawyer amongst you, gather enough evidence and petition for a class-action suit against GTB. Make sure you publicize the fact that you are suing them as a group of people who have been hurt and why to several social media sites. I guarantee you before the end of the week, they will fix it and refund monies. You all have enough evidence, no matter how big their lawyers are, they won't want this to go to court. Chances of things ending in their favour and a case dismissal is low. And the PR will be awful for them so anything to make it go away, they will return your money before they get sanctioned. |
prettynerd:Best decision. I don't know how I will live with a man, smiling with him forever and somehow think I won't remember he slept with my sister. I know people who don't forgive their parents' beating them as children, people who it takes years to get over the fact they got into a fight with their sibling and the sibling almost killed them. I have been in a situation whereby a family friend was toying with my emotions (not sex!) And the fallout ended a family friendship for decades. So I think you need time to process this. Not one month but time. Because one day, you will feel down and maybe life hands you a bad set of hands: maybe you're struggling to conceive and your sister decides to stroll past you, her life sorted out, holding her babies. That natural envy you feel will also come with the thought "she even slept with my husband". Can you live with that? That is what you need to decide and that will take time. Anyone asking you to marry now and forgive later, won't be there you and he are having a fight and you suddenly remember and get even angrier. You need to figure this out carefully. There are some lines people should never cross and those lines are different. You've got a tough decision to make ahead of you. As for your sister, screw that bit.ch. Tell your parents and her that this better be the last time you see her face to face or she dies. Mean it, too. Let her spend the rest of her life knowing that if she steps out of line or even as much as greet you wrong, she will die. And you better mean that threat or don't say it. I believe in JUSTICE, then mercy. She deliberately messed up, she is very selfish and does hate you enough to shatter your happiness. She called you to "confess" Because her bf insisted it or he would leave her, to keep her own relationship at the expense of your peace of mind after screwing your boyfriend. |
Congratulations! |
Gloriouspa, there are foxtail palms in Lagos. The nearest people selling them to you are at Magodo. Tearoses, how lovely! |
dorocent:Prettynerd, this poster asking you to forgive and plan your marriage, did not take his own advice when his girl slept with his friend (he broke up with her and kept his friendship). Remember, most people will do opposite of whatever they advise you to do. Now, let's talk about your wedding day! You, smiling beside your groom, beaming to take pictures, your sister wearing family asoebi and standing beside your man to join in the picture.... Or will you tell her not to attend the wedding because of the fact she and your man has sex whilst you were dating? How about when babies come, is she still going to be allowed to visit? What if your mum says she should join her to do the omugwu, will you start having panic attacks every night your "darling husband who could not hold his body for the short time you want to the market", goes to the toilet? What if the kids are older and you need to travel wihout them and mum is not available and she asks "tell your sister to stay, na"? And you panic again? Can you live like that? For the rest of your life? If you can live with this and get over it, sure. All I know is, the longer I held onto stuff, thinking whatever was out there was worse, when I eventually or go, things were always better. Different but better. Fear of the unknown keeps one back. But people have been in your situation and gone on to marry the man. Take some time off from relationship, listen to what your sister said happened that day, switch off your phones afterwards and THINK. You're already giving him an excuse: your sister is wayward. Ignoring the fact that wayward or not, he had NO justification to sleep with her. What next, every single friend of yours looking attractive will be accused of trying to seduce him? A lot of married women are like that, "don't send my husband birthday greetings, you're yellow/pretty/busty/have arse/etc" and end their friendships because of it. Will he be so understanding if you slept with his father? Yes, there are plenty cheating fathers out there, why not take a chance with his? He sampled your sister and may be even tasted you that night or the next, high-fiving himself in congratulations (thats how guys are, sexual prowess is something they cheer themselves on). Did he even use a condom? You and your sister have shared everything: a womb, food, toys, clothes, a man. How nice |
internetpo:It's a gift. Give it as such, kindly and don't make anyone stand at attention beside you. It's not necessary to give an allowance. Every marriage is different and there is a time for kindness and a time for firmness. |
cherrymum1:Even a doctor will tell you to wait a year of trying to conceive before tests. Because of your age. You're in the prime of life! You can run tests if you feel like but wait and see if there will be a problem first before trying to treat it and cause more complications. |
ojuolu:I'm a she ![]() |
zemaye:Sigh....I can't do this... |
goldenruby:Trust your instincts. I have said no to a lot of things and they turned out to be the right answer. I have said yes I a lot of things and they turned out to be the right answer. At the end of the day, I and every mother here will not sit down with you and cry if anything happens. There was a mum I read her here asking about medicine, I asked my siblings to give me advise to pass onto her because she had gone twice to the hospital and not gotten good answers. The reason I ask people to search for old answers on this thread is so one can read what other people's doctors told them and make an informed decision based on several years of past and present posters, and not just listen to whoever is loudest on the thread at that particular time. Even Babycentre that they quote here, has different countries: on Babycentre.co.uk they are fine with giving cheese and eggs from 6 months. On Babycentre.com, they follow U.S. guidelines and give all EBF infants Vitamin D because their parents' diet is not rich in meats to pass enough through breastmilk (we in Naija eat meat with every meal so I stopped once I got back). Babycentre India gives food suggestions with spices. So the best answer for a Nigerian child is usually from a Nigerian doctor (who knows what Red Acalypha is, and understands that Agbo of today is not made the same careful way as Agbo of the past). Like Zaynie said, my pikin knows me and I know her. |
Abeg please who knows the answer to a baby who thinks dressing-up time is playtime and will be jumping across the bed away from you, screaming happily, then she now pees on your pillow. Who the #@+!! knows how to cure this, before I start beating someone?? |
sassyangel1:My mother's meeting-lady had a grandchild in the U.S. the girl listened to a lot of people who encouraged her to give her EBF baby water and she gave her baby a lot of water. When the child was admitted for Water Toxicity, she cried her eyes out and worse, Child Protection Services removed the child from the parents and kept the baby in foster care until they could hire a lawyer and prove that they were fit to be parents. All the people who advised water, nothing happened to their babies. To all the mothers reading this, because it worked for my child without no side effects doesn't mean it will work for your child. I know people who gave their babies honey and their children are perfectly fine. But a mother came here and stated that her baby died from Botulism Posioning from honey. Which is why doctors forbid Honey. They don't want you to be that one bad case. My siblings are Consultant Paeditricians and lecturers and practice. My mum has her own age-old wisdom but she still runs it by then first before she tells me. My mum believes in Gripe water and I have my newborn the organic version then decided to stop. Each child is different. I was given the go-ahead to allow my baby drink follow-up milk at 10 months (because she drank no formula) because they knew I would be anal about feeding her nutritiously (i gave her calcium-rich foods as substitutes). They judged my case according to me and what they knew of me and my child. When my baby was badly constipated, they asked me "I HOPE YOU ARE NOT GIVING HER ANY DRUGS?" Because another sibling is a pharmacist (worked here and in thr UK, plenty experience) and they didnt want her to prescribe for me. We sorted it out sans drugs. Does everyone has such luxury? Isn't it safer to play by the rules? The reason I don't like answering here and the reason my siblings refused to come help on this thread, is because they cannot see the mother and child. So they cannot intuitively understand them kind of person they are dealing with. Which is why we say a lot here "take your Baby to the hospital", the baby's doctor sees you and the child and can judge what is best. Please, every parent here should henceforth make the decision to give their child whatever they want. |
Meehnnnn. I shouted on your behalf o when reading this. She should have told you. Since! This is not a secret to be kept this long. This is the equivalent of telling you she has a child, is barren or is a robot with Artificial Intelligence created by an Alien lifeform, few weeks to the wedding. Hmm. Go to a hospital, a Federal or State one (Teaching hospital is better). Tell them to counsel you (they usually have counselling groups for people living with HIV). Also, ask her if she goes for counselling and follow her. Ask her for her drugs, take a good look at them. Who pays for them? Get every single info you can, there is no more time for secrets. In fact, if she insists on not telling you anything, threaten to walk away. She has to make it clear beyond a shadow of doubt what your reality will be. Then decide if you want to live with it or not. And all the best in your decision. But if she's lying, call off the wedding. For now. Because she's a dunce. Which kain nonsense test be dat?? ![]() |
vodutive:No rational government would risk an international incident over this issue. But the fact that the U.S. Dept of State felt confident enough to issue instructions to the Embassy of the U.S. in Nigeria to withdraw their visas makes it very likely that there's proof and what Dogara is doing is playing to the gallery. NASS knows that to fight this publicly whilst begging privately is the best way to handle the matter. Someone leaked the original letter from the Embassy to the press and I believe it was a Nigerian. This is not the first time the U.S. has brought up issues with some lawmakers, even a former ambassador said the one of the candidates approved by Nigerian FG to be ambassador had to be recalled because of his stepson committing a crime and nothing was reported in the newspapers, it was handled quietly. The U.S. doesn't like being embarassed and I'm pretty sure a Nigerian lawmaker leaked the letter to the press. And the reason they didn't allow the lawmakers to have their families with them is because they came on Official assignment and were probably partially sponsored by the U.S. dept of state and some NGO. Why should they have to pay for your family as well? I have some experience with stuff like this (from the U.S. side) and these seminars are usually partially funded and organised by the U.S. the host country. |
OP, good one. |
Nickair:Tommie Tippie does feel hard to me and my mum also made the suggestion of boiling it to soften the teats but it didn't work. Dr Brown's is much softer however I don't know if the one they have in Nigeria is the same company as that of the U.S. How about brands like Mothercare and Chicco? Today we did our birthday shoot pictures! When the photographer showed me to review, I took one look at my fat face and decided on the spot that as from tomorrow, I was eating only air and water henceforth. I have gymed tire. I think I need Man-O'War. |
Dyt and Banjolek, please stop making excuses for that child. Her day of reckoning is coming! Just let us have one more night of 2.30am to 4.43am nite of dancing from her. You will read what happens on NL frontpage ![]() |
5minsmadness:A joint account depends on what you and your spouse decide. Either you pay whole or part of salaries and payments into it. It's a way of holding both parties accountable and not keeping secrets. I know a lady who insisted on a Joint account with her husband, because he was a spendthrift. He splits his salary into the Joint and his personal savings. He runs through his money quicker (he pays for house things from his from time to time) but they also have that backup savings in the Joint (for emergencies). She has never mentioned it to his face that he's a spendthrift (she did once, but the fight that followed nearly ended their marriage). Banjolek's wife is not evil and she's not a spendthrift. She saves half of her salary and is planning a second business. That doesn't sound like a spendthrift. What she's suffering from is hearing or seeing a lot of bad stories about husbands and money (she may even had read them here from #TeamHousewivesAreSuffering ). So she's making some fundamental mistakes. People give newlyweds a lot of shockingly bad advice that makes them adversaries rather than partners. The best way to solve this issue is to show her, don't tell her. Thats why the Joint account will show her clearly how much of her husband's salary is going where and it will make it clear that he is all for providing for his and her family first and is not going to keep financial secrets from her. Rather than telling her continuously. He should also just casually mention how he had to do stuff like eat bole or some cheap snack at work because he had no money. He should stop starching his native to church or taking them to the drycleaners and go "mehn i can't afford it but you please go ahead and get your hair done". Feel free to follow her to church looking slightly shabby. Which sensible spouse (who is looking to get compliments like "oh your hubby is shining, well done o!" won't start noticing the correlation between his spending, his poverty and her demands? If in 2 months' time, Banjolek doesn't see her subtly adjusting her mindset and offering to pay for things, then he can go loco. That is why most women end up being in charge of the Joint account and most are prudent with it. Words don't sway people, actions do. This is what I originally wanted to type at first, OP. But Baby E was doing head stands (i don't understand why a 1 year old acts like she does) so I had to attend to her and write a short summary. You decide what you wanna do. |
I hear it is genetic and comes from the mother's side. But is there such a way or do you have to take fertility drugs to make it happen? |
banjolek:Sigh. You're about to make a small hurdle a very big mountain to climb, with this thinking and mental journey stated above. I'll say it one last thing: do it with sense. Or if you like, carry the petrol here and pour it on your vex and go home and handle that woman. Your wife, your life. I have to go and worry about why a certain baby is doing head stands instead of sleeping. This parenting thingie...Sigh... |
Orikinla:But the guy who allegedly groped the housekeeper is probably toast. He can't deny it because his room number is proof and she can probably identify him due to one-on-one interaction. Let's see what the others allegedly soliciting will say. I have a a feeling Gbillah is a case of mistaken identity. |
banjolek:That joint account will solve your issues without you having to talk. Pay what you normally contribute to care for the home in it and tell her to add something to it (let her decide). Only remove your personal savings. If she's a careful woman, in 2 months' time she will see precisely how much of your earnings is going towards you guys and will feel so bad for you her natural Nigerian "ijebu"-ness will kick in and she will start urging you to save more and become more prudent with money. She will also appreciate the allowance you give her more. |
banjolek:Once you make it clear that you are okay with sharing financial information with her and taking care of your responsibilities, she should calm down. A lot of times, women act in fear when it comes to money: due to what they have seen or heard. Encourage her to buy small things to decorate the house, make it clear it's "our Family, our money, our home, our decisions together". Not "our money, my decisions alone and if you take out of the money to give your brother a soft loan I will act like you stole from me". That last part, is what I was told by a lady who was shocked to hear I had a joint with hubby. She hides her salary from her husband and demands money too. Because he acts "funny" when he knows she has money or she gave a loan and he found out. If I were you, i'd turn the giving of the allowance into a fun performance. |
It's okay. Sit her down and tell her the money she's getting is a token of love, meant to be spent on frivolous things for herself. And that the amount will increase as things get better. Also get a joint account in which both of you will be paying savings into and make her a co-signatory. It will cure her of her fears about you. |
MurphyG1:Diplomatic Immunity. Only the government has a right to question the lawmakers, not the hotel management. Nigeria also doesn't have immediate extradition (Senator Buruji fought his in the courts) so even if the lawmakers were caught, once they go to even the Nigerian embassy in Texas or Washington D.C. they are on Nigerian soil and cannot be subjected to U.S. laws. If there's CCTV evidence and witness evidence (and there must likely is), you cannot charge a crime to the lawmakers (because of reasons stated above) so why release it publicly? This should only be a matter between the U.S. govt and Nigerian govt. This is also Election year in the U.S. their govt officials have to look tough on crimes because their new President will want to choose her/his own new set of people to give jobs to. If they had kept quiet and hushed it, maybe the hotel staff would have sold the story to some tabloid and it will hit mainstream news and someone like Trump (who is very inflamatory and anti-immigration and lousy foreign policy) will quickly pick it up and say "you see how lousy Obama and the Democrats are? They allow even Muslim countries like Nigeria, with all their Boko Haram problems, to harass innocent American women and cover up crimes on U.S. soil. Don't vote Clinton!". Do you really want Nigeria to be part of the dirty politicking going on around this very vicious U.S. elections? If you think I'm lying, chat with the nearest American who stays outside Nigeria. They assume that we are all running around being bombed and Boko Haram is kidnapping girls in broad daylight in Orile and Aba. The police cannot step in because of that Diplomatic Immunity so they had to go through U.S. Dept. Of State. The sensible thing would have been to quietly let lawmakers step down (Strauss-Kahn did). But this is Nigeria we are talking about, no-one who has done worse and been shamed even more publicly cares. It was 3 weeks after and Nigeria had not given an official response. It says in the article that Dogara was pressured by some other lawmakers to act on it. Nigeria wanted to sweep this under the table and make it go away by ignoring it. |
touchmeder:That's sad to hear. How come they are attracting mosquitoes? Is there a lot of standing water in them? Mosquitoes sometimes like hiding under big leaves but your Lucy is still a smaller. |
Berlyn:Instead of wasting away in a village, hungry, someone should Olajumoke them. The little girl and her mum would look lovely advertising noodles instead of the foreigners we use. Even for calendars for companies of family products. |
Typha grass Common names are Bulrushes or cattails. It's a grass we have growing right at the and of our street here (it tends to do well where there's a lot of water). I hate this plant. I don't know why but it just looks so creepy to me (especially the brown bulb at the top). Urgh! I would cut it but it is public property and besides, our street is flooded right now (thank you rainy season). But guess what? It is an amazing grass. It is edible to humans and animals so it is good for agricultural feed. It can be used as furniture, burnt as candle, used as a flotation device, for biofuel, to make paper, for treatment of ailments, infact the only thing it doesn't do is grow tomatoes and increase the price of crude oil. Which is a shame, really. But I still hate it. Typha is very invasive: South Africa has banned it and Taraba state govt had to clear it off because it was blocking waterways and farmers were complaining.

Gardening Basics Let's start at the beginning. Plants need 2 things to thrive: nutrients and water. Notice I didn't say sunlight or soil because there are plants that do well without sunlight (peace lilies etc) or soil (air plants exist which need moisture but no soil). What's the basis of a good soil? Rich in nutrients. Now, if you live in Lagos, you don't naturally have good soil in your backyard (it's either alluvial or clay). Clay holds too much water and that can drown a plant (same as a human). A good soil 'drains' that means it is loose and allows water move freely through it. Which is why you can get soil and mix it with wood shavings, sand, dead leaves and grasses, so it loosens up. A good soil also have nutrients. You can buy fertiliser or use organic animal dung as manure (chicken poop, goat or coe dung). The easiest way to get soil in Lagos is to approach a gardener and buy a bag of it, N500 and tell them to mix it for you. Tools A simple trowel will do. I've attached a pic of mine, it costs N500 at GAME. Also, a plastic spoon and a metal fork. As you get advanced, you may want to get gardening gloves and pruners (Bypass and Anvil) and a shrub cutter. You can find all those in Nigeria. I believe Shoprite or GAME sell a Bypass pruner for N1000. That help in pruning (cutting away) dead or live branches (to encourage new growth or force the plant to send the nutrients to fruiting rather than flowering. More on that later). For florist-y people, floral scissors exist. But to be very honest, I spoke to a top-notch florist in the U.S. and he assured me a sharp knife was better than florist scissors (as it doesn't pinch the nerves of the cut flower so they can absorb nutrients after cutting). So tools are affordable. Sprinklers and watering cans You certainly don't need a watering can, But if you live abroad, your neighbours will look at you funny if you don't have one #JudgeyWhitePeople . Sprinklers are used with lawns but I've seen people rig a water tub with plastic bottle and use it.Containers Anything can be a container. Since most of us attend weddings where they hand out buckets as souvenirs, you don't even need to buy them. Anyone else wanna add something? Cc rhukie

Zaynie and Kaffy4bill, just leave the matter. Someone who believes that there is a cure for every ailment in a bottle of medicine isn't going to change her mind because of what we say here and no matter how much you sing "don't drug your baby" here daily, some mother's will still come for answers wanting and ready to buy medicine. They still sell Piccan, Infacol, baby cough syrup, baby teething powders and lots more on the market, doesn't mean it's good. And some doctors don't update themselves about what's new in Medical practises. Everyone, please do what's best for your child. If Agbo is the answer, please go for it. If Antibiotics for teething is the answer, go for it. At the and of the day, you're the mum, not us. |
Orikinla:Jehovah. What were they doing there, even locals avoid those areas. LASG should ban danfos and let BRT buses ply major routes. This one-chance thing is too common and has been going on years. There is now a lot of gang and criminal activities around Ikorodu road (Ojuelegba to Shomolu are always in the news for area boys), people should be aware. |
valentino2ng:Ribena is just sugar and water. He will be fat but not healthy. Baby E forced EBF on me at 4 months (she clammed up and stopped drinking her formula and wanted only breastmilk). And when we started semi-solids, she would drink cereal and small pap. But everyone kept saying "oh she's so small" so we started forcing her. And she started fighting and screaming during foodtime and refusing to open her mouth. So I stopped forcing her and listened to the only good advice I got: babies will like what you eat. I would casually pick up chicken and put in my mouth and hers. Same thing with fruits, stroll past her and give her a taste. Take the fear and anxiety out of mealtimes. Plus, I stopped pap. Because I hardly drink it so why subject her to it?? Now she eats combos of veggies like Carrots, stew, fish, meat, potatoes, rice, green pepper, beans, plantain, spring onion, eggs, peas, Turkey, spaghetti. I make them as meals for her. She occaionally will eat plantain amala with ogbono soup and fish. She likes her cereal and yorghurt. An she will wrestle you for any type of fruit, she's good with fruit. No sugary drinks (Himself tried to let her sip small from time to time to my annoyance) and no Indomie. She still selects food and sometimes will refuse for no reason but at least one of her meals daily is cooked. She doesn't drink any type of milk so I had to figure out what other sources of calcium I could give her. She eats butter (on bread), cheddar cheese and yorghurt as substitutes. Yesterday, I boiled rice with veggies poured milk inside the rice, mixed her milk with eggs and some beefstock (meat broth/meat stock is good for babies) and made scrambled eggs and that was her dinner. Try breaking up spaghetti with stew and shred mackerel fish inside. Boil turkey, Apple, sweet potatoes and onions together in a pot, mash it and give your Baby (even for you it makes a nice salad). Or better yet, give what you eat regularly, in a casual manner. |
