I arrived Benin city at about 5:13pm. My friend Osas had already begged his elder sister for me to stay with her family till the end of my service year. Osas and I had been friends since our days in 100level. We do virtually everything together except some weird things. Only that he was posted to Abuja while me was Edo state. He’s originally from Edo state and though didn’t grew up there. But he has a family, his elder sister who is married to a military man. They stay in Benin city. Osas had to beg his sister to allow me stay in their house for my Primary Assignment. Staying in their house was a sweet sad memory that I would never forget in a hurry. All was so good until the family felt I pressed beyond bounds. But it wasn’t my fault. I couldn’t have watched while those events takes place. It all started when I came into the house, their house help, the way she’s been treated. It didn’t go down well with me. That was what hanged me into trouble. It all started the day I came into the house. The family welcomed me so well. A slim average in height teenage girl was the one who served me water to drink. As she was serving me the drink, I noticed marks on her hands. That wouldn’t have been tribal marks. It looked like marks gotten from been tortured. At night during the super, all except this young teenager was seated at the dinning. She probably has her own place in the kitchen. After the dinner, “Ntii,” the woman shouted. She asked her to come and pack the plates. That was where I got to know the name of this young teenage girl is “Nti.” It was a short form of Ntishokarome. She is from Cross Rivers state. As Nti was packing the plates from the table, the 10 year old boy of my host smacked her bottom with his right hand. I thought the mother and the father would rebuke him; they didn’t. But they rather ignored it and pretended they didn’t see what was happening. As if that was not enough, the boy lifted his hand to hit Nti’s bottom again. “Common stop that nonsense,” I shouted and he dropped his hand. Nti left the place. The way his father looked at him when I shouted, it looked as if he wants to swallow me. I almost became scared. I had forgotten that am a guest of a military General. As days go by, I noticed, Nti wakes up early and sleeps late. When others are eating in the dinning, she has her own place in the kitchen. The clothes she wears, stands her out of the family’s children. Someone might just refer to her as “dustbin inside Aso Rock.” she always looked dirty and unkept, yet stays inside a fine house. The shouts and screams woke me up. “it has started again,” I thought to myself. They have started beating her. I was yet to see a day pass by without Nti being beaten. I stood up and went to her room. Only for me to find her been stripped naked by her madam. She was laid on the floor while she flogged her. And it’s happening in front of her 3 kids. Nti screamed as she was being flogged. I rushed and collected the cane from madam. “Are you stupid,” she screamed at me. Before I knew what was happening, a dirty slap landed on my left cheek. With that kind of slap, within 10 seconds, I wondered if madam was also trained as a soldier. The slap affected my eyes immediately. I tried to explain to her that the beatings was too much. “What is your business? Is it your house,” she screamed at me. I couldn’t even alter any word, I dropped the cane on the floor and left the room. Leaving the room, I began to wonder what kind of human beings my host are. To make matters worse, I overheard madam telling her 10 year old son to go get pepper from the kitchen. Hope say this woman no wan put pepper for this girl eyes. 5minutes later, Nti was screaming so louder. I couldn’t bear it. I had to run as fast as possible to her room. I met the shock of my life. Madam was trying to insert grounded pepper into Nti’s anus. Nti was begging. “Mummy put it inside,” one of the children said. I stood there speechless. I couldn’t do anything to help at that moment. I thought of what my fate would be if I try to prevent that evil woman from her deed. Maybe her husband would deal with me. I am still a guest. I left the room. Put on a shirt and left the house. I came back in the evening. The General himself was back. He warned me never to interfere with any of their family’s matter. He said if not for osas, they would have thrown me out of the house. I actually took the warning serious. The next day, I came back as early enough from my PPA. I met Nti at home. She was walking strangely with her legs wide open like someone who has a bowl leg. I began to ask her some series of questions. She confessed to me that that has been the way they torture her. They strip her naked and flog her in the presence of their children. As she was narrating to me, I felt sad and angry. She said sometimes their 10 year old son would touch her breast his parents presence and they wouldn’t do anything. Wetin me wan talk. Wetin I fit do. The General himself don wan me. I encouraged her. Though I never told Osas what I was seeing in the house. But I intend to. After she had narrated, I told her to go and finish her work and come so I can help handle her school’s assignment. She actually did come back. We took a bench and went outside. As I was helping her with her assignment, the General drove into the compound. He came to us and sent Nti into the house. “Who sent you,” he asked me. he warned me never to teach her anything. He said it’s not my duty to do it. and I was just a guest in the house. The way he was even talking to me, I was scared. Make I no go dabaru myself for this house. I just wan respect myself. In the evening, I went to the kitchen to take water from the fridge and I discovered the shock of my life. There was a pot on the gas cooker. I opened it, it was a mixture of so many soup. “Who eats this,” I thought to myself. That is a total poison and that was what Nti eats. The family doesn’t eat staled food, only Nti. If they cook egusi soup, the leftover would be poured into the pot for Nti to eat. The next day, if it’s okro, they would pour it into the pot. And that is how it goes. Looking inside the pot, it contains more than 6 soups or poisons. If one adds Nsala soup, egusi, efo and many more. I don’t think the girl predict the name of the soup she’s eating. It was a mixture of so many. I no sure say she know the name of the soup wey she dey chop sef. I left the kitchen immediately and went to my room. As I was there, Nti rushed into my room with tears flowing from her eyes. Nti said the madam wants to beat her. me, I no know wetin I wan do. Since them don tell me make I no dey interfere for their family matter. I told her to go. She refused. I couldn’t stand her tears as I watched her cry. She locked the door. Boom boom boom, “open this door now. Oh, this is your plan. you want to rape Nti.” The general screamed. Chaii, this girl wan put me for wahala. Nti was begging me not to open the door. That they want to beat her with chains. Me, I no know wetin I wan do. Before I knew what was happening, General had called the police on phone. I opened the door. I tried to explain to him that I wasn’t doing anything with her. “Shey bi I have warned you not to interfere with my family matter,” he screamed at me. Before I knew what was happening, police had arrived and he told them I was trying to rape Nti. Chaii, come see beating wey this people give me before them carry me go their station. I was actually released a week later by Osas. I didn’t even go back to that house again. But I was still hurting about the beatings given to Nti. Only God will save her. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/927-the-cry-of-an-abused-housemaid |
Every student that would be going for FPY were rushing to the notice board. The list had been released. The FPY list contains students that will be going for industrial training for one session. FPY means Farm Practical Year in Federal University Of Agriculture ( Funaab) calendar. It’s equivalent to Industrial training done by other courses, the only thing is that FPY is meant for Agricultural courses and departments in my school, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), and it will be done for one year or session while other courses not Agriculture affiliated does theirs for 3months. Funaab has four locations, ishaga orile, Ode-lemo, Odogbolu and Iwoye-Ketu. As at the time the FPY list was to be released, Iwoye-ketu was the most hated. We have heard endless tales from the last set before us that was just fishing the FPY program. Some of them said that the distance from Abeokuta to the place is so far, no mobile network and internet coverage, before one can make any call, he or she would have to climb un-top of a tree or go to any high mountain just to get a network coverage. Some said the village was cursed and many other stories. Only some few positive statements were said about Iwoye-Ketu, like, food is very cheap, it’s a border community. But the negative comments outweighed the positive. That was why almost all students including myself due to go for FPY program don’t want to be posted to that community. Many students like me prayed, fasted that we won’t be posted their; But how I wish that was possible, students must be posted their. With over 1000 students due for FPY, at least 250 must be posted their. When I checked my name, it was so unfortunate that it fell under Iwoye-Ketu. I was speechless and confused as I walked out of the place. I turned around and went back again to recheck it, maybe I didn’t see it very well. Before going, I bought a sachet water and washed my face very well. I want to make sure that what I will see is real and if it is what I saw before, let there be a miracle. I went back to check it and it was still Iwoye-ketu and the miracle I was expecting was nowhere to be found. I wondered how I would cope with an area like that. On October 6th 2012, i and a friend and departmental mate posted to that community for FPY went to get accommodation over there. We left Abeokuta by 7:30am and got there at about 09:30am. One of the negative things people said about this location is that from Abeokuta to iwoye-ketu was 5 hours journey. Even one of my neighbors said it, and I believed him because he said he has been there. When I got their within 2 hours I wondered, was it bicycle he(my neighbor) used to travel to iwoye that he spent 5hours on the way. I confirmed this one as false, the journey was just 2 hours journey. We got to iwoye-ketu, the place was pretty cool and okay as a village unlike the negative things people say about it. We got accommodation and paid within 30minutes and left for Abeokuta. But before we left the place, I used my phone to browse just to check the internet strength, there was network coverage, though it was only MTN network that was in the community. I also browsed with my mobile phone, it wasn’t that fast, but above average. Before leaving, the people I saw in Iwoye were really friendly. On the 12th we all posted to iwoye-ketu. We left Abeokuta by 8:45am, We got to Iwoye at about 12pm. My first week in Iwoye-Ketu, I got to learn some few things about the community, the people and their culture. Iwoye-ketu is a small village in Ogun state of Nigeria. Its parent town is Imeko Afon . Iwoye shares a border with Benin Republic. Iwoye has about 4 ethnic groups which are Hausa, Fulani, benin indigenes and Yoruba who owns the settlement. They speak hausa, Fulani, anaogo,Egu( a mixture of Benin republic Yoruba language and Nigerian Yoruba language) and the major Yoruba language owned by the Yoruba people who lives and owns the settlement. The name of their king is Ooye Joel, a good and humble man because we met with him when we first came to his community. One of the most amazing things I saw in this village is a small area where the Fulani settled in that village. I loved the way they constructed their houses and fence. The Hausa-Fulani people have been able to blend with the Yoruba and their population makes up about 35% of the people in iwoye-ketu. According to what I heard, the hausa-Fulanis have been staying there for over 20 years, I guess that makes them indigenes of the community. We visited the king four days we arrived. He welcomed us, advised us and told us to conduct ourselves. In as much as they are very friendly and accommodating, we should try our possible best to adhere to the rules and custom of the Land. One major, significant rule he gave us was “the use of umbrella”. He said that they don’t use umbrella, whether rain or sunshine, no use of umbrellas. I could remember that one of my friend asked him what would happen if any of us should use umbrella when it’s raining. The king said that, whoever uses an umbrella, whatsoever befalls him or she, he or she is on their own. He sounded it to us that it’s their custom and they have maintained it for a long time, indigenes don’t use umbrella, as visitors, he’s telling us to adhere to the rules and if we get outside of the community, we can, but here, it is banned whether the rain is heavy or not. Iwoye-ketu people don’t have much money but businesses boom because it’s a border community. Majority of the houses built there don’t have toilets or befitting bathroom. Bathrooms are constructed with palm fronds. For toilets, they do what we call “short put” or “dig and cover” or even “discuss” like my friend call it. Short put is where someone poo inside a nylon bag and throw it inside the bush. Dig and cover is where someone goes to the bush, digs a hole and poo inside and cover it back. Some houses can’t boast of pit toilets. . I asked dayo an indigene of the community who helped me with my accommodation why they don’t like building toilets when they are building their house, he said his people believe it’s a waste of cash, they have abundant land with abundant bushes around, anytime you want to poo you can go to a nearby bush to do “dig and cover” or short put or even “discus”. There are some pretty houses in this village, some of the houses don’t have toilets or even borehole water, some houses have reservoir that look like well. The reservoir is one of the major source of water during the dry season. Few boreholes that they have was built by my school while the Hausa-fulani community have about two borehole built by them at the area where they majorly base or stay in that community. The Hausa-fulani community are pretty much in number, in Iwoye, they have an area where they settled more than the other parts in the community. I came to realize that the Hausa-fulani community in Iwoye are more organized than the main iwoyeans. The part they stayed, they have about two borehole while the major iwoyeans can’t even boast of one borehole, they depend on the one at the town hall which was donated by my school, Funaab. Each of the houses constructed by the hausa –fulanis in that area are made with strong dry palm fronds. According to them, they don’t believe in wastage of money in building with cements. Only but a few of their houses are made with roof palm fronds and body cements. There are no filling stations in iwoye-ketu, they sell fuel in bottles. A bottle costs N150. Kerosine is rare in Iwoye. People of the community use charcoal to cook. When me and my friends first arrived, some of them brought kerosene along with them but my roommate suggested we use charcoal as it’s been done there because we didn’t bring kerosene. Though I never really bought the idea but later most of us students opted for the charcoal because it is cheaper and lasts longer more than kerosene, only that it takes time to catch fire. There is a place we call Shoprite there in iwoye-ketu. Iwoye-ketu can’t boast of a well befitting shop talk less a super market but this place we call Shoprite, is at least befitting to an extent because we can find 60% of what we need as students. If we are in need of anything and Shoprite doesn’t have it, we just have to go to the city because you can’t find it anywhere here. Food is very cheap in Iwoye, cheaper than any other community I have been to. Maybe because it’s a border community. Their market days is every 4 days. People come from imeko Afon, Abeokuta and Benin Republic to sell their goods. According to their king, he said the market area(land) is not owned by Nigeria, it is owned by Benin Republic, that is why the area is mostly called “French”. Another business booming area, dominated by the Hausa fulanis, where they do money exchange and sell their goods in the community, the King also said that the area belongs to the Benins. The area is well dominated by Hausa-fulanis and a few Benin Republic citizens. Iwoye-Ketu can boast of only of one secondary school which is located at the entrance of the community. The Primary schools attended by the community kids are located in the “French” area, in which they are thought in French Language. Finally, Iwoye-Ketu is a great community. I enjoyed myself in that place in the over 7months I spent their. Before going there for my Fpy, the former set that did their FPY there before us complained of poor network services, both internet and phone calls. But guess what, I browsed on 3g towards the end of my stay there. The network was even faster than in my area in Abeokuta. Till I left Iwoye-Ketu, MTN was the only network service in that community. I also came to realize that, it’s not all reports that I should believe. Many might have a negative perception about a place, one can only find out if it’s true or false only when they have been there. Just like Nigeria, it’s only when you have been here that you would know that we are not so bad like what the international media paint us to be. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/925-somewhere-in-nigeria-called-iwoye-ketu |

It was so joyful when the pastor called them for the church to pray for them, they just got engaged some 2 weeks ago preparing for the main wedding. The pastor called Joshua and Cynthia forth, the church prayed for them and they went back to their seats. After the service the pastor called them both to his office for some few advice, he advised them not to engage in any sexual act till they are fully married as husband and wife, they also told him that the wedding had been fixed to 4 months from that day and they have started arrangements. The pastor gave them his blessings and they left. 2 weeks later Cynthia was coming back from the boutique where she went to check price listing of some the items she need for the wedding, she branched to Joshua’s house to see him, she had already called him and told him she was coming. She got there, they chatted, talked and played, next Joshua held Cynthia’s hands, he tried kissing her but she quickly removed her lips, she moved a step backward from him. “Not again” Joshua said as he tries picking a fight. He wants to have sex with her but she refused. Joshua was angry because each time he wants to have his way, she will always tell him to wait till their wedding night, he said he was tired of waiting and they are already engaged, their wedding has been fixed which is less than 3 months so why can’t they do it because she has nothing to lose because they are engaged. Cynthia told him that she too was having the urge to have sex but she is controlling herself. She tried advising him to wait a little while, as she was doing that, Joshua angrily stood up, took his car keys and left the house. This was not the first time this kind of incident is happening, it has happened many times even before their engagement. For over 9 months now Cynthia have been turning that offer of having sex with him down. She is in her middle 30s and still a virgin, she has been waiting for suitors to come, no one showed up and this one that came she is about to lose him. She is under pressure from friends and family to get married, is not her fault, she will not search for suitors by herself and she has to wait for them to come. All these were Cynthia’s thoughts since it has been over a week of the last incident and Joshua has not called her. 2 days later, Cynthia visited Joshua; she told him she will have sex with him. To her she was feeling she had nothing to lose, at least they are engaged and preparing for the wedding. They had sex which I believe they enjoyed. After the act 2 days later, Joshua went to Cynthia’s parents; he told them he wasn’t interested in the marriage any more. He went to the pastor and told him too and that the wedding is cancelled. He finally called Cynthia and told her he wasn’t interested in the marriage. Guess the reason he gave? He said Cynthia is so energetic in bed and that he doesn’t think he can satisfy her sexually, the sex they had she was even craving for more. He also said that he can’t marry people like that because when their husband can’t satisfy her, she can go outside to find a better person. That was the excuse he gave. Everybody begged and tried to bring them together but Joshua refused. The day fixed for the wedding came and gone and no wedding took place. All these are part of Cynthia’s woes. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/921-the-act-that-caused-her-woes |

It seems this boko haram boys are proving stronger than our military these days ooo. What is really going on! Boko Haram members this afternoon attacked Police divisional Headquarters in Nafada Local government area of Gombe state and took away weapons. It was reported that policemen at the station fled as Boko Haram attacked the station. The men reportedly stole weapons from the station and afterwards burnt it down. They also reportedly attacked a military checkpoint by Ngada Bridge. http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/832-boko-haram-attacks-police-divisional-headquarters-in-gombe-this-afternoon-and-took-away-heavy-weapons |
This is indeed the time for us to answer some hard questions and speak some home truths. It is a season that shall separate the men from the boys. It is a time that the holy and wholesome light of truth shall overwhelm and expose the evil darkness of doublespeak and deceit. It is a season that the enunciation and exposure of the ugly realities of the day must not be sacrificed or compromised on the alter of political expediency or on the table of fear. Thankfully there are a few courageous and discerning voices that have risen to the occasion, made the relevant observations and asked the right questions. Amongst them are Mr. Bayo Oladeji and Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje. Permit me to begin with the former. Oladeji, a seasoned and experienced journalist who writes for the Leadership Newspaper, wrote the following on his Facebook page on 31st October 2014. ''When Chief Femi Fani-Kayode came out to expose the plan of the APC chieftains to impose a Muslim/Muslim ticket on the party, their attack dogs were ordered to abuse him using words picked from the gutter. They even told us he was never part of them! Chief Tom Ikimi came out and corroborated him and they said he was telling a moon tale. They then recalled his participation in the Abacha evil rule which murdered Ken Saro Wiwa as if their hero, Muhammadu Buhari did not play same role in the same government. When I raised the issue here after confirming from those who were involved in the plan some who can never talk to their hero rose up ignorantly to fault me. But since President Olusegun Obasanjo did the same, their response remains a deafening silence! When I was growing up I was told that SILENCE MEANS CONSENT. Meaning those who have been saying it are not wrong after all. The Church has kept mum for so long and these people in the opposition are cornering all for themselves. For example, I have challenged the apologists of APC to publish the list of names and the religions of all their political appointees in the Southwest especially the following- the governors, SSGs, Speakers, Finance Commissioners in all the APC controlled states in the southwest. Let us see how fair they are to the two religions in the country. If they could do this at the state level where they have someone who claims to be a Christian as deputy governor, we wonder what they would do when they have the President and the Vice President from them. In the whole of the North, there is only one Christian in the National Executive Commitee and the National Working Commitee of the APC. His name Engineer Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State! And if you know the extent he went to get that seat, you would know what that party is up to. These are the issues. It goes beyond President Jonathan. If the party does not change, God spares our lives, come 2019, you will still find me doing the same. Until the rotten tooth is pulled out of the mouth, the mouth will continue eating with caution. It is a tragic irony that those who have come out to defend them are those who claim to be Christians''. Oladeji’s observations are indeed food for thought even though in fairness to the APC their party Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, did come out and respond to Obasanjo by saying that his party had no intention of fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket. Few believe him. The question is this: in the light of General Mohammadu Buhari's latest assertion that he cannot rule out the possibility of the selection of a muslim running mate if he manages to win the nomination as the presidential flagbearer of his party, can the belated assurances of the National Chairman be taken seriously? I doubt it very much but even if I do take John Odigie-Oyegun seriously and even if he has the best of intentions, the fact of the matter is that at the end of the day it is the Presidential candidate of the party alone that will make the choice as to who his running mate will be and what religious faith that running mate espouses and not the party's National Chairman. To that extent Buhari's celebrated and widely reported comments about not seeing anything wrong with a Muslim/Muslim ticket, in my view, speaks volumes and outweighs Odigie-Oyegun's denials and desperate attempts to calm the waters. To make matters worse it is quite possible that John Odigie-Oyegun may end up not being National Chairman for much longer simply because he has dared to challenge the status quo and say what no-one else in his party has dared to say. To add to Oladeji's concerns permit me to point out the fact that in the APC-controlled Lagos State today 80 per cent of State House of Assembly members are muslim, 80 per cent of Local Government Area Chairmen are muslim, 80 per cent of National Assembly members are muslim and 80 per cent of Commissioners and key government functionaries are muslim. All this in a state that has an overwhelming christian majority and that has been governed by a muslim governor for the last 15 years. I will not even go into the affairs of the APC-controlled Osun state which is slowly being turned into a Taliban enclave and which is a place in which Christians are fast becoming second class citizens. Should anyone be surprised or alarmed by all this? I don't think so. It is a well-orchestrated, well-thought out, well-designed and well-implemented agenda. That is the APC for you. With them you will never see what you will get until it is too late. They are very good at using religion to achieve their objectives and at playing double games. And of course propaganda and the manipulation of the mass media is their forte. They implement their hidden agenda by guile, stealth, deceit and subtefuge and they prey on our sense of fair play, generosity and magnaminity. In short they have taken us all for granted and they have mistaken our genuine sense of liberalism and the desire to accomodate other schools of thought and perspectives as weakness and stupidity. Yet it gets worse and it doesn't stop there. It is also a fact that every single state that is under the control of the APC in the south west today is governed by a muslim whilst 90 per cent of APC governors throughout the Federation are muslims. If this does not paint a clear picture about what the overall agenda of the APC really is and if it does not give a clear indication about what their intentions for our country really are then nothing ever will. Let us come to Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje who is a banker, an economist and a lecturer at the Lagos Business School. He made his own contribution to the debate by asking the following insightful questions on his Facebook page on 31st October, 2014 . He asked: ''How come the only debates we have in Nigeria are over a "Muslim-Muslim" ticket? How come the opposition partys instincts are always in that direction-Nuhu Ribadu/Fola Adeola in 2011 and now all sorts of Muslim-Muslim permutations and possibilities? How come a discussion of a Christian-Christian presidential ticket is completely inconceivable and has not been countenanced by anyone? How come Buhari, who even in a military regime instituted a Muslim-Muslim/North-North ruling clique along with Idiagbon and 8 or 9 out of 11 Supreme Military Council members, is now testing the ground again with another possible Muslim-Muslim pairing? Is it that we have a shortage of capable Christians in NIgeria?'' I wonder if anyone can answer these questions. I believe that the Nigerian people deserve to hear the answers. The fact of the matter is that even though many in our country are in deep denial and have buried their heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich, religion has not only become a factor in our politics today but it has actually become THE factor. This was never meant to be the case and it is a sad and unwelcome development but, sadly, that is the reality and we have no choice but to live with it. Those that dispute it ought to be reminded of the fact that these are the days of Abubakar Shekau and Boko Haram. They ought to be reminded of the fact that this is an age that has witnessed the unprecedented and meteoric rise of Islamic fundamentalism, religious intolerance and ISIL-like barbarity in the affairs of our nation. They ought to be reminded of the fact that these are the days that have witnessed the advent of an opposition party that is hell bent on using religion as a major political weapon in an attempt to grab power at the center regardless of the dangers of undertaking such a dangerous and unpredictable course of action. They ought to be reminded of the fact that this is a time in which the leading Presidential candidate of the opposition party is on record as saying that an attack on Boko Haram ''is an attack on the north''. They ought to be reminded of the fact that the same man told the Nigerian people in 2002 that he wishes to spread sharia law ''all over the Federation''. They ought to be reminded of the fact that the official spokesman of the opposition party only last year said that the proscription of Boko Haram by the Federal Government was ''unconstitutional and unjust''. Given all this only a fool would suggest that religion is not a major factor in the unfolding events in Nigeria’s political arena today. Yet I am not surprised and neither should anyone else be. That is style and manner of Nigeria's opposition party. That is the APC way: lies, deceit, doublespeak, Byzantian manouverings, subterranean plots and hidden agendas are their stock in trade. They are nothing but darkness and only the light of God and the power of truth will expose them. May God deliver our nation from their ilk. There is no gainsaying that both Oladeji and Agbaje have raised some very pertinent issues and their deep concerns reflect the thinking of millions of Nigerian who are very worried about the unfolding agenda. We await the response of anyone within the ranks of the Buharists and the Haramite hordes for an answer to these pertinent questions and observations that these two courageous and deeply patriotic Nigerians have raised. Whichever way we choose to look at it one thing remains clear: the reaction of the Nigerian people will be decisive and swift if those that wish to turn our nation into an ISIL-style state push their luck too far. http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/827-some-hard-questions-for-the-buharists-femi-fani-kayode |
Some part of Nigeria’s territories are being taken over by insurgents and our Government, top officials, political parties are busy fighting themselves and looking for who will take over from embattled speaker, Tambuwal. Tambuwal is yet to leave office. He still remains the speaker even though the constitution will reject it, we leave it for our lawyers to interpret it. Mubi in Adamawa state is still in control of Boko haram. Is the Government doing anything about it? over 60, 000 Nigerians have fled their homes, leaving the town, searching for a peaceful place. Nigerians are turning refugees in their own country. Last week, it was reported that over 30,000 Nigerians who left mubi were rejected by the Cameroonians at the border. They were prevented from entering the country over fears of Ebola. According to the Cameroonian Government, in as much that Nigeria had been declared Ebola free, there are fears that the dozens who had been displaced in mubi, trying to enter Cameroon, may be having the Virus. So the Cameroonians are playing safe. I don’t blame them. I blame our Government who can’t cater for their citizens. According to reports, about 100,000 have been displaced from their homes and towns since the terror attack started in 2010. Thousands have been killed. Over 80,000 Nigerians are staying in refugee camp in Niger, chad, Cameroon border towns. Our Government is not looking for a way to cater for them, or even bring them back to their father land. But rather, they are busy embezzling our money, tormenting the people who voted for them. How about the “cease fire agreement” with boko haram? Has boko haram pulled out? Because they have started killing and throwing bombs again. I believed there was an agreement, but it has gone wrong. Now I know why so many believed negotiating with terrorists is a bad business. In as much as we want our girls back, these boko haram mofos are capitalizing on that to inflict more terror on us. Agreeing on “cease fire,” thereby making our military not to harm them. This give them the opportunity to kill and inflict harms without the army retaliating. These boko haram mofos are taking our Government for granted. In some part of the world were such negotiations are done. nothing goes wrong. Terrorists abides by it. But here, nothing of such. They would rather die fighting. They believe our Government is weak and irrelevant. I think is time for the Government to pull out of the “cease fire deal.” I think is time for all Nigerians to fight this evil called “boko haram.” They are taking over our territories and rendering our brothers and sisters homeless. Forcing so many to convert to their religion. I think the Nigerian Government should be more violent on them, take back our territories and kill them all. We want sanity in this country. Were citizens can live and walk around freely without fear or doubt. Boko haram thinks they are strong, but we are stronger. We can defeat them. I want mubi taken back before the end of this week. And I also want all territories taken by boko haram to be recovered before the end of this month. This I pray this Sunday morning. In Jesus Name. Amen http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/819-enough-of-this-government-is-busy-fighting-tambuwal-while-boko-haram-is-busy-taking-over-nigerian-territories |
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has gone to court over the withdrawal of his security details by the Nigerian police. The case which was filed today, Friday 31ist 2014 at about 12:40pm Nigerian time is asking that his security details be reinstated, he's still remains the speaker. Recall that Tambuwal who was elected speaker under the platform of PDP officially decamped to APC last Monday. He is due to contest for Governorship elections in sokoto state come 2015. So many constitutional Lawyers have faulted the withdrawal of his securities by the Nigerian Police on Thursday, believing that the Police took the laws into their hands. They should have left it for the judicial arm of the Government to interpret the laws rather than withdrawing his securities that he was no longer the speaker. His former party PDP has asked that he resign the seat due to his defection. http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/810-speaker-of-house-of-reps-aminu-tambuwal-goes-to-court-over-security-details-withdrawal |
The President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter has said that the decision to award Argentina captain, Lionel Messi the Golden Ball award for the Brazil 2014 World Cup was wrong and incorrect. According to him. ‘I think the decision was an incorrect one.’ Blatter who said he had thought Germany’s World Cup winning goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer deserved the accolade, said it was however not up to him to decide. ‘I was surprised when I received the decision that had been decided by the committee. FIFA has given Nigeria a reprieve, thereby shifting its deadline for the nation’s ban to Friday, October 31, 2014. The reprieve came in order to give Nigerian football a last opportunity to avoid a lengthy suspension. They are requesting that the country puts her football house in order or face lengthy ban. On Saturday in Windhoek, Namibia, CAF President Issa Hayatou told Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo that the world was fed up with Nigeria’s incorrigibility in the area of football administration. ‘’It is all very disappointing because we have over 50 National Associations in Africa, but a big country like Nigeria is the one always giving us the biggest headache’’. Hayatou lashed out in a meeting with Sports Minister in Namibia. In the letter sent to the NFF, FIFA warned of the dire consequences of a ban on the country stating that it would for instance mean that no team from Nigeria of any sort (including club teams) could have any international sporting contact. Here is the letter below Situation of the Nigeria Football Federation reads thus We acknowledge receipt of your correspondence dated 27 October 2014 with regard to the latest developments of the situation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). We take note of the order granted by the Federal High Court nullifying the NFF elections of 30 September 2014 and the fact that some persons claiming to have been legitimately elected previously went to occupy the offices of the NFF causing great confusion among the administrative staff. We also note that security forces prevented you from travelling to Namibia where you were supposed to represent the NFF at the final match of the African Women’s Championship. As stated in our previous letters dated 9 September 2014 and 2 October 2014, FIFA stressed that should the electoral process and the instalment of the newly elected NFF board be affected by any interference, the case would be brought to the attention of the appropriate FIFA bodies for a suspension of the NFF until the next FIFA Congress due to take place on 28 and 29 May 2015. The course of events as described in your correspondence clearly shows that interference has not ceased. Under these circumstances and in order to give Nigerian football a last opportunity to avoid a lengthy suspension, we inform you that if by Friday 31 October 2014 at midday Nigerian time we have not received proof that the case has been definitively withdrawn from court and that the board elected on 30 September 2014 is able to carry out its activities without any hindrance, we will refer the case to the FIFA Emergency Committee for implementation of the suspension. We would like to underline the dire effects a suspension could have on Nigerian football. It would for instance mean that no team from Nigeria of any sort (including club teams) could have any international sporting contact (art. 14 par. 3 of the FIFA Statutes). But it would also mean that neither the NFF nor any of its members or officials could benefit from any development programmes courses or training from FIFA or CAF any longer. We recommend that you contact the main stakeholders and concerned parties to brief them on the FIFA position. We thus hope that by Friday midday, we will receive the requested evidence in order to avoid the adverse consequences of a suspension. One hour later, I was still on the chess game, I heard my name from behind, “is this were you are, were are the drinks you said you were going to buy.” I turned to know who was that, it was Amanda that was speaking. In my heart, my thoughts had gone wild, imagining how ugo must be feeling now that he has tasted her honey pie. I wished I was the one that did. “it’s too late so I decided to stay back and play game,” I said to her. “I want to taste something juicy” she said. “Maybe that will be tomorrow,” I replied. It’s going to 10pm and this is kaduna, am a visitor and my first time here, I can’t just be walking around. I don’t want all this Islamic sects to cut my neck. “Where is ugo” I asked her, “he’s inside” she replied. I gave her the laptop and a chair to seat while she plays the game. I went inside to ask my boy ugo how he enjoyed the action while it lasted. I entered the room and met ugo pressing his phone, I began hailing him, “badoo”, he laughed. “How far nah, how the thing go” I asked. He smiled and said, “the girl no gree ooo.” “Why nah” I asked again, “I no know for her oo” he said. My boy’s face was just dull and full of anger. He desperately wanted to lay her that night but, she didn’t give in. The next morning Friday, I woke up earlier than ugo, I went to the backyard towards the bathroom to ease myself, I met over ten women and two of ugo’s sister, they were washing tomatoes that will be used for cooking. I greeted them and went into bathroom. After easing myself, I was walking back to the room when Amanda called my name, she greeted me and I replied too. She said I should help her lift up one basket of tomatoes into a big basin, she wants to rinse the tomatoes. I helped her and also decided to stay back and help out in some chores. The day was gradually breaking, darkness was gradually fading away, giving chance for lights and sunrise. I and Amanda still busy washing tomatoes. We chatted. I never bothered to ask her intimate questions, I kept the talk casual even though we talked about some issues about our personal lives like career, goals, hobbies, likes and dislikes in people. As we were talking, ugo walked out of the house, he saw me and Amanda talking, he stood and was just staring at us. I greeted him and asked him what was wrong, “nothing” he said. On my mind I thought, “Hope is not what am thinking.” Hope he’s not thinking that I want to chance him to take Amanda. Amanda greeted him, the way he replied, like someone who is bearing grudges against his ancestors, maybe he is. I began suspecting that the last night incident between ugo and Amanda in the room didn’t end well. He told me that she refused having sex with him, did they quarrel, did he tried to force her? There must be something else. Amanda also ignored him as he entered the bathroom to urinate. That is one thing with women, don’t try to force them to do something against their will, if you do, they won’t be coming close to you anymore. In the afternoon, both I and ugo were inside the room watching one Nollywood movie, I paused the film. I asked him what was wrong with him and Amanda, they seems to be distancing themselves from each other since the last incident of the previous night. “O Boy forget that girl ooo, she dey make me dey vex” he said. Just because she refused to have sex with him, he was behaving like a child, refusing to talk to her. The once good friends, flirting with each other are now enemies. I told him to go apologize to her, just telling her “sorry for what happened last night” with a good countenance will go a long way and mending back their friendship. Ugo refused, “me keh, I won’t beg her, infact I will teach her a big lesson, just watch and see what I will do to her” he said. “ You sef dey craze for suggesting this kind of thing” he said referring to me. I hope he’s not planning on raping Amanda because that would be a very grave mistake. “What do you want to do” I asked him. “You dey ask me, just watch and see” he said, “I hope is not what am thinking” I said to him. “what are you thinking, get out joor, keep your thoughts to yourself,” he said. I kept my cool, this guy is really taking this thing personal, but I called it “an empty threat”, I never knew he was serious. In the evening, I, Amanda and 2 of Ugo’s sister went to the market to bring back the baskets of pepper their mom bought. We brought the baskets of pepper back home, washed them, they have 3 grinding machines at home there for grinding tomatoes and pepper. We grinded the tomatoes separately and pepper separately, putting them inside empty buckets they provided for us. The next day Saturday, the D day for the wedding. More visitors trooped in Friday midnight, from far and near just for the wedding. When I woke up, the women that was cooking had already finished cooking. It seems I woke up late, but that was about 7:35am. I saw ugo washing some of the pots and plates used for the cooking. I went to him and started helping out. He told me that the women woke up as early as 2am to cook. At about 8:30am, we were almost through with the washing, it was remaining one paint bucket which we used to mix pepper the former day after grinding it. PHCN brought their power. I remembered that I had not ironed the clothes I would be wearing to the wedding. I wanted to rush and wash the bucket, ugo said I should leave it and go and iron my clothes. Before leaving, I fetched water into one of the bathing bucket and kept it close to the bathroom. I want to use it to bath after ironing my clothes. I was ironing my clothes when Amanda came into the room, she asked if I was the one who kept the water at the bathroom, I said “yes”, she said she would like to use it, that she would fetch another one for me after bathing, I told her to use it. I never knew that ugo overheard what Amanda told me and, he has gone to do his worst. As Amanda left the room, the beautiful bride, ugo’s sister followed her. She said that she will also like to make use of the water, that both of them should share the bucket of water since they are running late. Some few seconds later, still ironing my trouser when I began hearing shouts from the bathroom, “pepper, pepper ooo”. Who is shouting “pepper” I thought to myself. As I peeped out of the window, I saw the bride to be running out of the bathroom almost unclothed with towel tired around her waist, Amanda was screaming hard, “my eyes, pepper” as she ran out of the bathroom naked with water dripping down her body. The mother of the bride and some other people ran outside to the bathroom, covered them. I rushed outside immediately too. Amanda was in pains as she explained that she thinks there was pepper inside the bathing water. I asked myself how manage pepper entered the water. Was it not the same water I wanted to use before she asked to use it? Before I know what was happening, almost everybody were calling my name, asking me how pepper came into the bathing water. I told them that I don’t know, that was the water I even wanted to use before Amanda asked for it. As we were still talking, they took both them (bride and Amanda) into the room as they fan them. Some women were suggesting rubbing them palm oil in other to subside the pepper reactions on their body. I went into the bathroom and I discovered that the bucket containing the water was the one used for mixing pepper the former day. That was the last bucket I wanted to wash when ugo said I should leave it and go iron my clothes. My own bucket of water I kept there was not there. Ugo intentionally did this, he took away my bucket of water, took the pepper bucket, fetched water inside and kept it for Amanda to use. He just wanted to punish her, not knowing that her “about to wed sister” would still share in the punishment. I told their mom, that that was not the water I kept, maybe ugo mistakenly took my water and kept the pepper ridden water. Ugo was nowhere to be found and their dad was a retired military man. He came out of the house and gave me a thunderous slap on my right cheek. “you want to spoil my daughter’s wedding, in fact who are you sef” he said. He was about giving me another slap and may be some hot blows when other people that gathered started holding him. It seems that the pepper was having a harsh reaction on their skin, they have to rush both of them to the hospital. Before their dad left the house, he said he shouldn’t come back and meet me in that house, I should leave their house. I wanted to stay so I could get to the root of the matter and how ugo exchanged the water. But I thought of it, this place is kaduna and their dad might come back and order for indigenes to beat me up, perhaps I don’t even know anybody here in kaduna. I came because ugo invited me for his sister’s wedding. Ugo really messed up. He shouldn’t have done this. A girl refused to have sex with you, you tried to force her and she refused again. Why punish her by using a pepper bucket to give her bathing water ! I arranged my bags and left. Before I left, ugo still didn’t show up. I had to send him a text that I had left due to what was going on. He called me back couple of minutes later trying to explain, I told him there was no need for that, I was embarrassed by his dad. They made me look like an enemy of progress. Even if such a thing happened by mistake, it doesn’t warrant there family harassing me like that. By 12pm I had already gotten to Abuja, I called one of ugo’s cousin I collected his number. I asked him if the wedding later took place, he said they were still in the hospital with Amanda and the bride. I felt pity for them. I begged him to give me Amanda and the bride’s number which he did. At about 10pm in the night, I called the cousin again, he told me that the wedding later took place, they rushed the event and, infact they were just finishing the reception that time. I was so happy, at least the wedding took place. I called the bride and apologized for what happened and congratulated her, she apologized for the slap her dad gave to me, she said I shouldn’t have left that she knows it was a mistake. I told her I was scared since their dad was a former military man, I don’t want him to turn me into drums and punching bags, telling people to beat me in faraway kaduna, I don’t want to die. She busted into laughter. After dropping the call with the bride, I called Amanda and apologized, I opened up to her that I think ugo was the one who did it. She said she knows. I asked how she did. She said I shouldn’t bother. Well thank God she knows. That was how my friend ugo nearly ruined his sister’s wedding. http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/777-how-my-friend-nearly-ruined-his-sister-s-wedding |
It was a happy moment for me when my friend, Ugo told me that his eldest sister would be getting married in some weeks’ time. Her sister was clocking 35 and everyone was worried, praying and asking when the right man would come. Finally, the right man has come. I was so happy for her. She has cried, waited upon the lord for her own man. Thank God, He has done. The week of the wedding came. Wednesday morning, I traveled with ugo to Kaduna for the wedding. According to ugo, there wasn’t an open traditional marriage, it was just an in house introduction. The family didn’t invite much people. We got to Kaduna were his parents stays, and were the wedding would take place. We got in late in the Night. That was my first time in Kaduna. It was really a large family with too many relatives around. Most of them were fast asleep when we arrived, but the few ones awake welcomed us, including his parents. Since it was late in the night, we took our bath and went to sleep. Ugo and i and some few cousins shared the same room. He told me he was going to introduce them to me the next day since they had slept when we arrived. The next morning, I woke up, I discovered that I was the only one in the room, others had gone out. I took my phone and called ugo to come meet me in the room in which he did. The introduction for me to know the family members began. He introduced me to his 3 sisters and 2 elder brothers. Ugo is the last and has 5 siblings. His dad’s total children plus ugo is 6. Ugo’s family are so kind and warm hearted. The way they even welcomed me into the family was amazing. It looked as if I was even the groom, my head was swelling like pop-corn. They were couple of his sisters friends that came along with them for the wedding. He introduced some of them to me. He said he was getting to meet some of them for the first time that day. “This wedding will really make sense,” I thought to myself; because people, friends and family members are really showing up. Some of his sister’s friends he introduced me to are females. I wondered how ugo got to know them so quickly and began flirting with some of them. I stopped my wondering when I remembered that Ugo has always been a good talker, knows how to broker and keep conversation. He’s lively, social and friendly; and loves chasing women. Ugo said some visitors are still on their way while some will come on the day of the wedding. There was this particular girl he introduced me to, her name is Amanda. He said she’s a friend of her immediate elder sister and a corper serving in Zamfara. They just met for the first time that morning before I woke up. Trust ugo, they have already chatted, getting a little familiar with each other. She is ebony in complexion, tall with a great ova face shape, and also very beautiful. Immediately I saw her and we shook hands, my heart summersaulted in beats. I told myself that I must go for this girl. Looking at her, she seems lovely and down to earth. As I was thinking and strategizing on making a move on her, I never knew my friend Ugo was also thinking of asking the girl out, he had already gone ahead of me in terms of familiarizing with each other. When I left them for the room, I was inside the room trying to arrange everywhere. In as much am a visitor, I must help out in some house chores. I overheard a boy and a girl voice laughing out loud. The male voice sounds like Ugo. I stretched out my heard out of the window to know who ugo was laughing with, behold it was the Amanda girl. She must really be enjoying his jokes to laugh like that. Ugo was flirting with her as she washed her clothes. In the afternoon, Ugo had gone out with some other members of the family to get some bags of rice for the wedding. I was so bored in the room, ugo who keeps me company had gone out, everywhere in the house was quiet. The only voices I was hearing was the bride’s mom and some older women, I can’t just go there and start chatting with them, no PHCN, at least I would have been watching the T.V. I left the room and went to the backyard where the bathroom is to ease myself. The way their house was constructed, the bathroom and toilet was not inside the building, one has to leave the house for you to poo or bath. Toilet and bathroom was built inside the compound but not inside the building that contains the rooms they stay. I got to the backyard and met Amanda washing dishes. I asked if I could help out, “sure you can” she said. I began rinsing as she washed. It was a large heap of plates, unused and very dusty and very plenty. I wondered where they got all those plates from. I guessed that would be the plates they would be using to serve food to the visitors at the reception ceremony after the wedding. As I rinsed, we began chatting. She told me how she got to know the family. She said she graduated from Amadu Bello University Zaria (ABU). I told her a little about myself. I was really enjoying the conversation; Amanda is a very lively calm talker. I wanted to ask her if she had a boyfriend, but changed my mind. She seems nice and someone I could date but, when I saw her and ugo flirting, I felt something called “love” may be starting off between them even though I have not asked ugo. “What of if ugo has asked her out and now I am asking her too” I thought to myself. That won’t be a good idea. Another thing I have learnt in life is, “no rushing in life, wait for the perfet time and opportunity.” we just met some couple of hours ago, I just have to kill my urge and watch how things unfold, maybe collect her mobile number to communicate. As I and Amanda were still washing the dishes and chatting, ugo walked in. He said they brought 4 bags of rice and I should come and help them carry it inside. I followed him, as we were walking towards the parlor, he turned back and said he wants to get something from the backyard. He left for the backyard and I went towards the gate. At the gate I saw his 3 cousins and the 4 okada and the drivers that helped brought them and the rice home. We brought down the rice from the okada and they left. “Wetin ugo still dey do inside,” one of his cousin said. Two of the cousins carried one bag of the rice with each holding the edges as they walked inside. I lifted one rice to my shoulders and went inside. We dropped the rice in their store house. Ugo that said he wants to go to the backyard to get something has not showed up yet. I went to the backyard to know what was holding him. When I got there, I saw ugo, comfortably seated with Amanda, chatting. That means he ignored us while he went inside to chat with Amanda. This incident made me looked like a fool. “Guy wetin be dis na, u just go seat don dey chat, leave the rice wey we wan carry enter inside” I shouted at him. “Don’t mind him, he’s so naughty,” Amanda said. “Guy no vex abeg” ugo said. Why won’t I be angry, when he left us to flirt with a woman. He followed me and we went outside and brought the remaining bags of rice in. After dropping the rice at the store house, ugo was about leaving, I held his left hand and drew him back, “guy wetin dey between you and Amanda?” I asked him. “ Happen keh,” he replied, “You no toast her” I said, “toast keh, na sleep I want sleep with her, I no get time for toasting. Once I don enter that place, I dey waka,” he said. “How I wish this girl knows that this is his intention” I thought to myself. And I really loved her. Ugo had always been this sharp bad guy when it comes to playing women. In the evening, ugo took me and Amanda out to a suya joint in the heart of Kaduna. He bought about N4,000 suya. Suya is really cheap in Kaduna. Ugo was trying to impress Amanda. We chatted, joked around. Ugo held amanda’s waste, he tried to feed her but she refused. He took a piece and stretched towards her mouth as he told her to open her mouth so he would put it in. She refused. He asked why but she said “nothing”, “okay ooo, if you don’t want to take it, I will” ugo said as he inserted the large chunk into his mouth. We got home to our room, two of his little cousins were watching the T.v. When we entered, he sent them out and he gave them N500 to go buy suya. I already understood what he was trying to do. I had to leave the room. As I was leaving, Amanda called me, she asked me where I was going, I told her I just want to take fresh air outside, “can I join you,” she said, ugo cuts in and said she shouldn’t worry that I just want to do some few other things. He told her she should stay and spend some time in the room. He was saying it giving me a hand sign to leave. “Amanda don’t worry, I just want to go get some soft drinks for us” I said, while I left. I locked the door behind and went outside to meet one of his cousin who was playing chess game with his laptop. I joined him in playing the game. http://www.hovabuzz.com/news/777-how-my-friend-nearly-ruined-his-sister-s-wedding |

Abeg ooo. God abeg oo, na beg i dey beg oo. Make dem no do us this thing. Make devil no pour sand-sand put inside our garri. We have overcomed Ebola and its permanent. 20th October is fast coming. Well here is the news.... Daily Mail is reporting that A 63-year-old man on an Arik Air flight died during a flight from Lagos to New York, prompting fear amongst passengers that he may have to Ebola. According to the reports, The case was immediately reported to the CDC, customs officials, and port authority. Authorities are said to have conducted a brief test on the body, and thereafter concluded that the deceased did not have Ebola. Many are criticizing the what they have described as the “very brief” examination conducted on the corpse. There are fears that detecting whether an individual has Ebola should take more than just a few minutes. Republican Congressman Peter King, is one of the people who holds those views.
