Career › He Bribed His Way And Got A Job But Got Laid Off By The New Governor by onismate(op): 9:43am On Jun 25, 2015 |
After graduating from the University in the year 2002, I looked for a job yet to good one was forth coming. I was so stranded. Frustrations came in. My mates who were lucky after NYSC, they had all left me behind. I was so down casted looking for job. Finally I gave up, borrowed money and started up a business center were I do photocopy, printing and some other things. I managed it for sometime. It took me 4 years to recover the money I borrowed to start up the business. I was happy that I didn’t owe anybody. Still, I was still searching for a job to compliment my business because the responsibility. I have a wife and a beautiful daughter. I told my wife to hold on a little before getting pregnant again due to finances. My first baby, I knew what it cost us. My business nearly closed down. The antenatal, baby cloths and food items and that season, there was no work at all. My wife too who is a teacher in one of the private primary school in the town, she is really trying.
This particular day, I saw an advert on one of the prominent newspapers that Delta state ministry of Justice was recruiting. I didn’t even waste much time. I and my wife applied. The day I took the application to their office, I met an old friend of mine who works there. He asked me what I came there to do. I told her I came to look for a job because I discovered that the office placed an advert on the newspaper. She laughed at me. She told me that there are no vacancies and infact the office has recruited the people they wanted. I couldn’t understand what she was saying. Because the closing date for the application was still far. She laughed again on hearing what I was saying. She said I shouldn’t just waste my time, that the people they have taken would be resuming the upper week. “How come,” I asked again. She said I should go and check all the state Government parastatals, that is how they do. They would bring up an advert that they are recruiting. Before then, they had already gotten people they wanted. So many of their Ogas would bring their own people to occupy the spaces before they would finally place the advert as camouflage. But them don already employ people them want.
As this my old friend was talking, I was just speechless and looking at her. She said many people have been bringing application letters and their CVs but it’s because she knows me that’s why she was just telling me. She said she would have shown me the dustbin were they throw away all those applications but due to office etiquette she won’t. once they get applications, they would throw them there. Well, I and wife’s own were part of those thrown into the dustbin. I actually submitted it to fulfill that I have submitted just incase miracle happens, but there was none because time flied and no call was received.
As time went on, I kept trying my best. I even tell couple of friends who I know works in Government parastatals to help me out. Some of them said even if they can help me, I have to bring huge amount of money for their main Ogas. I refused because I see no reason why I should pay to get a job. But as time went on, I didn’t receive any positive outcome. The only thing I was told is that I have to pay to get a job. Sometimes we would see an advert published that a Government parastatal is recruiting, if one gets there to submit CV and application, they would tell us that they are no longer recruiting. But according to the advert on the newspaper, the job opening had not expired oo.
I was tired of everything. This particular day in early 2014, one of my church member called me that their own government owned parastatal is looking for workers though they are not advertising it in the pages of newspaper. So it’s only their top Ogas that are fielding people to the positions. But he told one of his Oga that he has someone that has been searching for a job for a long time. So his Oga said he should bring the person. That was why he called me to come and see his boss. I was so excited about it. I followed him to see his boss. Boss told me that he was willing to field my name to the employment list if only I will agree to forfeit my first 2 months salary. Na so I just dey look the man for eye. How will I just allow someone to eat my first 2 months salary just because he was helping me to get a job. So many friends advised me to take up the offer since it’s just 2 months salary, it was nothing compared to many that had and will forfeit a year salary. I thought about it. I have been looking for job for over 10 years, this one was a golden opportunity, so loosing it would be terrible for me. And there was still another space in that office in which I would like my wife to fill. I took the offer to release my two months salary to the Oga. They also told my wife that if they would be willing to give her that job, she should bring N150,000. Na so we begin look for money ooo. We borrowed money and gave to the Ogas. Finally, job was given to us. It was wonderful. So many people were happy for us. After 13 years of job hunting, I now had a job. Government job for that matter. See swag oooo. I had to hire someone to be working for us at our business center. All was well until after the Governorship primary in Delta state.
In 2015, elections were held. We all were happy that we are having a change of Government. Baba Buhari dey enter Presidency while senator Ifeanyi Okowa dey Dey enter Governor status. May 29, swearing in took place and we were happy that Okowa has taking over from former Governor Uduaghan.
On the 2nd of June 2015, we got the shocker of our lives. Governor Okowa said that every one that were recruited from January 2013 to that June 2015 in all Government parastatals should be laid off with immediate effect because their recruiting was illegal, even the exercise was dubious. Infact when I and my wife got to work on Wednesday 3rd, personal data files were no longer in the office. Now we are no longer workers. This is back to square one, to the our business center. And my wife is even pregnant. After searching for job for bad 13 years, getting it, you spend one year in it and was laid off. Taking me back to job hunting again. With all the testimonies we shared in the church, Dem fire us. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1012-how-he-finally-got-a-job-after-13-years-of-search-and-got-fired-few-months-later |

Business › The Trange Encounter With This Lady In The Dream Which Became Reality by onismate(op): 4:50am On Jun 23, 2015 |
I woke up with a free mind. The previous day was so hectic for me after a much hard typing, photocopying of over 12,ooo pages of work papers. After work, returned home to rest. I laid on the bed after eating and slept off. As I woke that morning with a very free mind, body and soul. I stood up from the bed did some house chores, took my bath and off I went to were I work, a business center were we do photocopy, printing and other kind of works. I got to my work, did my usual daily clean-up and sat down waiting for job to come. Unlike the previous day that as I was just coming in, a typing job just came in, followed by photocopy. That day, I waited from 8am till 1pm and no job was forth coming. Na so I bend my head for table. Suddenly someone tapped me. “Hello, I wan do photocopy,” the voice said as she tapped me. It was a female voice. One need to see the way I raised up my head with saliva gushing out of my mouth. Apparently, I had fallen into a deep sleep the moment I bent my head to the table. My eyes would be red as I raised my head and looked at who was talking. It looked as if I was seeing 4 girls. I dipped my hand into my pocket and brought out my handkerchief, cleaned my face. I looked very well who was talking. Behold, standing in front of me was a very beautiful lady wearing a blue jean trouser and a white polo. As I cleaned my face with handkerchief, “your mouth too, clean your mouth,” she said to me. The saliva wey pour come out from my mouth, no clean finish. So she was telling me to clean my mouth area very well. Na so shame come dey catch me. She smiled. I stood up went to take water from the other room and washed my face and wiped it with my handkerchief. She was smiling at me. I couldn’t even look at her face. I just bone face. She gave me what she wants to photocopy. I collected it from her and gave her chair to sit while I did the photocopy. After doing the photocopy, I gave to her. She said there is another work she would love me to do for her. She brought out a booklet from the bag she was carrying. It was a rough certificate of ownership of a landed property I don’t even know where it is. She asked if I can make it original the was it is in the certificate. I should change the names and some other details in the computer, type and design it like the original she was holding. At first I was skeptical about the job. Part of me was telling me to turn it down because the lady was trying to forge a document but I told her I can do it. I felt she was a lady and looks innocent who can’t be involved in all those kind of shady deals. She said she was willing to pay any amount. She had earlier said she had gone to several places in that shopping complex and they all said they can’t do it. She gave it to me and I began typing, searching for logos online to make it look original. She asked how much for me after completing the job. I jokingly said N10,000. She smiled and said there was no problem. We began chatting as I worked as she stayed there, making sure she directed me on what to do for the work to be authentic. We laughed and chatted. She went out and bought me lacasera and gala as I worked. I was sipping the lacasera when her phone range. She immediately went outside to receive the call and came back. She brought out N5,000 from her hand bag and gave to me. I was surprised why she was giving it to me. “collect it nah,” she said to me. I saw my Oga coming towards the shop, I immediately collected the N5,000. She said she wants to get to the bank and she would be back shortly. When she returns, she would give me the remaining N5,000 for my job. As my Oga walked in and heard N5,000, he smiled. I knew he would be thinking ‘work don come.’ I was excited in my spirit as I continued the work as she has said. I wanted to strive to finish the job before she returns. She took her pulse from the handbag and dropped it on the table close to me. She said I should help her keep it safe till she comes. I told her not to worry that they can’t steal her bag from our shop. Our shop was a safe place. She left. As she left, my Oga asked me how much was her work. I no say the man go ask me because he too like money. I told him it is N1,500 but I charged her N5,000. “Did she give you advance?” he said. “No, she hasn’t. She said when she returns she will give me every thing,” I said to my Oga. “Yes, good boy. You are doing a great job,” he said. Na dis kind thing dey sweet my Oga, money. If I had told him it was N10,000 and she gave me N5,000, he will collect everything from me. Nothing for me. Me wey dey sweat dey do the job wey him sef or anybody for the complex no fit do. I continued the job till I finished it. I was about to print it out when my Oga told me he was going out and he would come back shortly. As he left, I connected the printer with happiness in me, that I don already hammer. As I was thinking that I have hammered, I never knew I would soon dehammer. I began to think. I just prayed that when she would return; let my Oga not be around. If I had known I would have told her charges was N20,000 and she would be willing to pay. I printed out the work and waited till she comes. She returned at exactly an hour she left. She was just holding two packs of Mr bigs take away packs. She gave me one and said she bought it for me. She also gave me the remaining money and even added N2,000 making it N7,000. I collected the items from her but was still her nice gesture because we just met and I can’t just understand why she was just granting my request as I demand. But I kept my cool. She said if we have internet service in my shop. I told her we have. So she said I should help her send the soft copy of what I printed to an email address. I asked her if she doesn’t have an email address so she would use her own. She said she has but has forgotten her password and I should just use my own. I was surprised because as beautiful as she is, even the Iphone 6 and blackberry phones she was carrying, she doesn’t have an active email address! Well I agreed to use my email to send it which I did. After sending it, she got another call which she went outside to receive it. I was still waiting for her to come so I could use another opportunity to exploit her of another sum of money. I waited ooo and she didn’t come inside. “Abi na 5hours she take dey make the call?” I thought to myself. I went outside to check if she was still there and she wasn’t. Well, I went inside because her hand bag was still inside and she was even yet to collect the hardcopy of the work I printed. “Abeg make she come back make I still collect small money from her,” i thought to myself. I sat down and opened the food she bought for me. Mehn na fried rice and turkey oo. Na so I begin chop this thing oooo. This girl just they spoil me today. I began thinking, maybe dating her would be cool because she was friendly. As I dey think, na so 4 able bodied policeman with guns came into the shop. The way they even entered sef, fear enter my body. The food I was eating dropped from my hands and fell on the floor. One of them rushed to the place I was, the work I printed for the lady, he took it from the table close to me. Before I knew what was happening, na one hot slap land for my face, kpozaaaaa. “Where is she?” one of the shouted. They were just screaming, “where she dey?” I don’t know who they were asking about. One of them asked were the girl that owned the work I printed, were she is. I told them that I didn’t know. Na so one of them give me one heavy blow for belle, and before I know wetin dey happen, I don vomit the fried rice and chicken wey I chop. They begin beating me and I was screaming, “wetin I do nah.” People began rushing into our shop. The officers dragged me out, calling me criminal. The handcuffed my hands. As they were about dragging me into the bout of their car, my Oga walked in and asked what was happening. They told my Oga that I connived with a 419ner. That I was working with a girl who was allegedly trying to illegally sell her father’s property. So I was forging the documents for her. My Oga no fit talk. He couldn’t even defend me. I was trying to explain to them that she brought the work for me to do. And my Oga was even their when she brought the job and I didn’t know it was forgery. I Oga denied being their. He said he was just coming to work and he had not been around that day. You need to see the crowd at the place as they watched as I was being panel beated by the police men. The worst part of it was when they brought out the girl’s handbag and opened it. They were so many documents and dollar notes inside the handbag. I told them that I didn’t know about it oo. They insisted that all of us were working together. They were beating me. I told them that she came and insisted I help her do the job and she even bought me food and dashed me money. “Chaii,” one of them shouted. They said what was the relationship between me and her that we were just meeting and she bought me food and gave me money. My Oga was just watching as I bled and they dragged me into the bout of the car, they want to close it. I was trying to go out. One of the officers lifted up his gun to hit me. “Helloooooo, I want to do photocopy,” she said. The person tapped me again, “I want to do photocopy,” she said. It was just a dream. I opened my eyes. The last time I checked, there was no work so I placed my head on the table and slept off. Immediately I raised my head from the table, realizing I was just dreaming. I turned to see who was talking. It was exactly the same girl I saw in my dream and the same cloths she was putting on. Immediately I just looked at her, I presumed that saliva had poured out of my mouth while sleeping. Na so I just bring out my handkerchief come clean my face. She gave me what to photocopy and I collected it. They were WAEC certificates and some other documents. After doing the photocopy, she asked me how much and I told her it was N60. She gave me money. She told me there was another job she wants me to help her do. Immediately she said that, fear came into me. She brought out a paper from her handbag. Exactly the same handbag in my dream just that hers was red and the one in the dream was black. “Can you type this out in the computer? Make it original the way it is here,” she said to me. Kaii, exactly the way it came to me in the dream. I began to fear. I couldn’t utter a word as she was talking to me. My imaginations were running wide. Could that dream be a warning to me! Could it be I was tested or making a signal of what was coming to pass? As I was thinking, my Oga walked into the shop. I told her that I can’t do it. “Ahhh why na?” she said. I told her that I don’t know how to do it. My Oga asked what was that, I told him that she wanted me to forge something. My Oga said I should do it because he knows I can use corel draw and other applications so well. The man no even send say na forgery, na money him. I wanted to collect it from her; I remembered what happened in that dream. As I collected it from her, I saw 2 police men coming toward our shop. Chaiiii, I gave the sheet back to the lady and telling her to go somewhere else. Na so my Oga start to dey para for me ooo. That don’t I know it’s the money he realizes from the business he uses in paying. I know that one before nah. My Oga knows I could do it because I had done it before but this one, with the kind of dream I dreamt. I began faking stomach upset, that I want to go to toilet. I left the place thinking that when I will return, the girl would have left, but lai lai. The girl stil dey there dey wait for me after spending about 30 minutes outside. She said she has been to everywhere at the complex and they said they can’t do it for her. And that was exactly what the girl in my dream said to me. Now it was becoming real to me, what I dreamt and began feeling that it was a warning. The beatings and embarrassment I received in the dream, I can’t receive that in reality. How do I tell my Oga that I had such a terrible dream, will he believe me? My oga come dey para for me infront of the girl. I told him that I was feeling sick and I want to go home. He said I should do the job for the girl since we have not done a reasonable job that day. The girl sef ask my Oga how much that if it was money, she was ready to pay. My Oga told her it was N1,500. The girl talk say she would pay even if it’s N10,000, she was ready to pay. That was the same amount we agreed on in my dream. “Are you people ready to do it so I can drop it and get to the bank and come back,” she said. Now it was becoming glaring to me. That was a sign and I need to heed to it. I told her that I wasn’t doing, maybe my boss would do it. My Oga said if I don’t do it, infact I will loose my job. He told the girl to drop it and go. The girl wrote the changes and the names to swap and that we should make it look original. The two policemen I saw before, I saw them again with guns. One of them looks exactly like one in my dream. They left one of the shops and headed to ours. As I saw them, I just ran to the door to leave the premises. My Oga said as I was leaving, I shouldn’t come back to his shop again. I went a little farther from our shop to sight what will happen. I waited there for close to 2 hours. I didn’t see or hear that police arrested or beat any body. As I was just there under a tree, the lady that brought work, she was passing by. She began asking why I refused to do the job, that my Oga has done it for her and she was leaving. I was surprised that no evil happened because in that dream, I was arrested and she ran away and here we are reality. The job was done and nothing happened. I went back to the shop. I tried to explain things to my Oga but he no wan hear me. He sent me away. He doesn’t want to see me again. What I did, was it wrong? Am I to be blamed? I was just trying to be careful due to my dream. I did what I did because of it. http://hovabuzz.com/frontline/1011-the-strange-occurrence-that-brought-a-bizarre-outcome-in-my-place-of-work-was-it-my-fault |

At the court, judgment was given, but it was an unfortunate judgment. Soji was sentenced to death and I was ordered to be deported. After the judgment, I felt weak and cried for soji. This guy has always been a great friend since I came into that country, I wondered why he was sentenced to death and me deportation. Na all of us carry drugs ooo. I met the American activist after the judgment. I asked if it was possible to overturn soji’s judgment. He said it is law in that country that death penalty for drug traffickers when caught. Infact even my own, he was surprised how I was just freed. Well na Baba God ooo.
I had earlier re-collected madam rose’s number from the American activist. The one I was given before, I threw it away. As I landed in Lagos airport looking hazard with my bushy hair and uncut finger nails, with $10 given to me by the lawyer that handled our case. I was cleared by the immigration officials. I changed the money their at the airport, bought a recharge card and borrowed the phone of one of the airport staffs. I loaded her phone and called madam rose’s number. But it said is was unavailable. I don’t know how to go to my house. We landed at about 6:15am in the morning. The shame and disgrace, I stayed at the airport till it was night before going to my house.
When I got to the house, my sisters and mother were rejoicing I was back and alive as madam rose had already told them about the judgment. My dad didn’t even want to see my face in that house. He sent me a way that night. Infact, as I was entering inside the parlour, my sisters and mum saw me and ran to meet me. My dad came out of the room, seeing me; he went inside and brought out his gun to shoot me if I don’t leave his house. My mum and other siblings began pleading but he refused. Out of respect, I left and he ordered that if any of them should leave that house that night, he shouldn’t come back again. Thank God I wasn’t carrying anything. I took many things to Malaysia, I came back empty handed with my life. I don’t know were to sleep or stay. Surely, not in any of my relative’s own. I didn’t want too many questions. And I was ashamed. I began wondering in the streets of Lagos till I remembered one of my friends who stays in Obalende. I have visited him couple of times back then when we were in the university. I wasn’t sure if he still stays there. I risked it and trekked from Ajah to Obalende, and to his compound. And thank God he still stays there. It was a “face me I slap you” house. His dad is the owner. Though he had told me earlier that he would leave the compound.
I knocked at his room door which he normally stays when I visit. Behold, it’s Abu my friend. Immediately he saw me, he screamed as he hugged. I told him to lower his voice. I came into the house. He was one of the few that I first told about my journey before travelling to Malaysia. He was so happy to see me that I am alive even after narrating my ordeal in Malaysia. He agreed that I should stay with him pending when I settle with my father. Apparently, he had finished his NYSC in Port harcort and had returned. He asked me to stay in the room opposite his since. The room was his brother’s who have moved to surulere. Abu said I should stay there. There was a small bed, a table and some few items of his brother there. He had two phones but gave me one to be using. He even bought the sim for me and gave me some of his cloths to put on.
As days went by, I tried as much to settle with my dad so as to go back home but he refuse. But I was still in touch with my sisters and mother. They had even come to Abu’s place to visit me. They bring food and even money along. I had narrated my ordeal to them (mother and sisters).
After a week I returned to Nigeria, I and Abu went out to a restaurant to eat. There was no food. My sisters had promised to come visit me with food but I was yet to see them and I had no airtime to call. So Abu bought uncooked rice and some items to prepare it. After cooking the jellof rice. We served it in a plate and we began eating. Way into the eating, Abu began coughing. I brought water and gave to him but the cough persisted. Before I knew what was happening, he began coughing out blood. Na so I start to shout for help ooo. People in the compound came in. One suggested we take him to hospital. On our way to the hospital, Abu died. Dat became another wahala. Police came and arrested everyone in that compound including me. Others were later released by the police except me. I was accused of killing Abu. I was pained. We ate the food together. But why did he die! I spent 7 days in police cell before I was released through the intervention of my mum and madam rose whom I gave my mum her number to call if she could get in touch with her. She actually got in touch with madam rose. Indeed the woman (madam rose) get connection ooo. This is the second time she would be helping to save me. After release, surely, I can’t go back to Abu’s house in Obalende. I was been released, madam rose, my mum took me back home. My dad was outside reading newspaper. Immediately he saw us, he stood up and asked me never to step into our house. Na so madam rose and my mama begin beg oo, at least to grant me an audience. My papa sef no wan hear that one. He told my mum that she herself to to come into the house because he had warm her not to bring me or have anything to do with me. It took about an hour of pleading, begging and talks with madam rose before he allowed us inside. He doesn’t even want to listen to my mum sef. When we entered the house, he said the only way for him to allow me into that house and pardon me is for me to buy him a car, because that was our agreement before leaving Malaysia. He had earlier told me that he was pained that I was leaving at that time. The money he was suppose to use to get a car for his business, that was what he used in sponsoring my failed trip to Malaysia. So he had said it, when I am coming to that house, I should come with a car for him. As my daddy was speaking, I have never seen him so emotional that he nearly even cried. He was pained that I disobeyed him. Me sef begin cry. I knew I was wrong. But my papa no gree. He said since I didn’t get him his car, that when I start work, my one year salary should be given to him. I thought it was a joke when he said it and we laughed. Not until he called his lawyer to prepare the agreement paper. 2 hours time, confirm lawyer with agreement paper don land for our house. My dad asked me to sign it. At first I was reluctant to do so but madam rose called me outside and advised me to do so since it would bring back the love between me and my father. She told me that my father could be testing my loyalty and he may not even collect it when I start bringing it. My mum still advised me to sign it that I shouldn’t worry, no matter how, she would be supporting me financially. I finally signed it. After everything, madam rose told me that one of her friends, his company was looking for a computer and software analyst. So if I was willing to apply. She said I shouldn’t bother about NYSC that she would help me out when I register so I would serve in the company. I did apply and I was taken. NYSC started calling for registration online, I applied. My first month salary was way above N100,000. After receiving it, I gave it to my dad and he willingly collected it. Second month came and he collected it. I became bothered because I thought he was testing my loyalty. I thought he might not collect it but he was. As a guy, I needed some money to take good care of myself. But I remained calm and cool and went for my NYSC that life has been so good. God has been great to me. I have learnt a big lesson. God delivered me several times from death and He’s still doing so. <<<<< THE END >>>>> |

ghettodreamz: Well said, bro. Even those gainfully employed are earning low incomes considering the fact they have several bills and rent to pay every month; only if they have some post grad qualifications to ease things a little. Even at that, it's not unusual for a master degree holder to be offered 3K rm as a monthly pay with telecom coy, Maxis, Umobile, et al.
The truth is, 80% of men are keyboardist, whereas 90% of Nigerian girls are 'Pay As You Go' call girls, even some of the self-acclaimed big women are the madams who are benefitting generously from the hard work and day & night toils of most of those girls.
If you aren't financially gallant bank home or your folks don't have millions to sponsor your education in Malaysia, going there with dreams of hitting/making it big is so slim as the air. The only chance you've got is belonging to the clique of 'happening guys', those are the guys who know their ways of making things happen and most of them have put in several years living in the country, they are the ones who live large in M'sia and the talks of the town.
Traveling to M'sia based on hearsay or impulse being informed by the sweet words or stories of people hitting it BIG, by a longtime friend or acquaintance(s) could be suicidal. To back up the OP's assertion, it's undoubtedly true that a lot of guys languishing in pains at the detention camps as illegal immigrants were bulk of those who were at some points wrongly advised to travel to the country to pick up job offers which were, in reality, non-existent.
If you must travel to Malaysia, your best route is education (student visa) and let go the idea of making it BIG as a student, or notion of being gainfully employed upon your arrival in the country.
Whenever you find yourself in M'sia steer clear off coke (suji) or associating with bad characters who have no goals and future ambitions or directions with their lives; the former being the fastest route to the world beyond.
Whatever your travel decisions are, always have 'Plan B', to cushion the effects of any unimaginable or unexpected, unforeseen occurrence(s) or situation(s). thanks my brother... 8 bottles of otapiapia to u, to kill all d mosquitoes in ur house. U make sense |

I relaxed myself a little and sat down, but it seemed my blood was running on a high temperature. As we were just seated, two black men walked up to us, they told us to follow them. Immediately they said it, fear come begin catch me. They spoke in American accent and no uniform. Shey na police dem be or! They took us to a room which “Interpol” was written on the door post. We entered the room and saw Malaysian police officers and some other uniform officers. Infact I wasn’t even experiencing butterflies in my stomach, na snacks. It just look like snakes were moving inside my stomach and python moving round my body. Before we knew what was happening, our hands were placed behind our backs and pressed to the grounds. The wrist watch were taken from our hands. Earpiece removed. One of them dipped his finger into my ears and dragged out whitish substance. By then, I just knew there was problem. Let it not be what I was thinking, but it was unfortunate that it was. We have been caught. “How come? Why us? How manage?” too many questions begging for answers ran through my mind.
Then and there I knew that some police officers are more wicked than the Nigerian police. Before I know wetin dey happen, two Malaysian police officers covered our faces (I and soji) with black cloth each. I was scared as they took out the ear piece on our ears. About few seconds, they took off the black cloth and carried us away. The took us to Malaysian drug law agency. After given us beatings of our lives, come see as my lips rise like kpomo. They took us to Malaysian police station. That was where our worse nightmare began. They were yet to tell us openly that we were caught with drugs, but we were been tortured. We were taken to the prison were I saw some of our 8 other colleagues (illegal immigrants). Apparently, the ten of us on that mission were caught.
For the next one month of my life, I experienced hard torture, injuries in some of my body parts. The police and prison officials beats us like no body’s business. They take turns in beating us. The prison officials would torture us in the afternoon while the police will take their own turn in the evening when they come around.
I made sure I prayed everyday, because I believed we were going to be executed. The ten of us were dumped in one cell. Eating was once in 3 days with that their rubbish prison Malaysian food.
This particular morning, I woke up and began crying. I had spent over a year in Malaysia while my mates in Nigeria Would be already through with their NYSC. I wished I had listened to my parents. I wished I had never come down to Malaysia. I wished I haven’t even carried drugs. I don’t know what would happen when my mum would see it in the news that her beloved son had been sentenced to death for drug trafficking in Malaysia. It would be embarrassing when my friends in Nigeria see my face on T.V and newspaper. How I wished I had the courage to talk to my family back at home that I would be killed. I wished I headed to the advise of madam rose. Tears rolled down my eyes as I overheard some prison inmates singing “death songs.” One was singing “the world is not my own” by jimmy reeves. I began wondering, why was it that we were caught so easily. Others that went had gone their way safely, but 10 of us were caught smoothly. How come? And they were not even interrogated us. Now I agreed with amnesty international claims that Asian countries have poor human sympathy. They torture, abuse and kill humans illegally. As I was there thinking about all that, a hot slap landed on my right cheek. That slap brought me back to the present scene. As the slap landed on my cheek, it just looked as if my eyes were blur. I began seeing people around me in motion. The only thing I was hearing was “stand up.” “poahhhhh,” another slap landing on my left cheek. I didn’t know when I started crying. I looked straight to see who was giving me the hard treatment. It was a policeman inside our cell. he wanted to give me another slap, na so i dodge the thing. He wanted to start beating me, the other one with him held him. They dragged me out and asked me to follow them which I did with handcuffs on my hands. We got to the entrance of our cell unit, the security man there told me that someone wants to see me. I began wondering who was that that wants to see me! Who know me sef. Well I followed till I got to the waiting room for about few seconds before the door was opened and I went to the visiting room. I met the surprise of my life. Na madam rose come see me. Immediately she saw me, her face changed, she looked sad. But I began wondering how she managed to know and how she did it that they allowed her to come and see me. Maybe she get connection shah.
She called out my name. as she moved closer with her arms wide open to hug me, she reiterated. Maybe because there shouldn’t be a major contact with inmates by visitors. And there was a prison guard behind us. We sat opposite each other as we talked. She asked me how everything happened, I told her all. She told me she got to know 2 days back when she went to drink at the bar and she was told. That means the news don already dey spread small small. Madam rose has always taken me as a son because she said I look like one of her children doing his masters degree in university of Ibadan. She’s also a grandmother of 2. Now I was beginning to see the values of her advise.
I and madam rose began talking. She started blasting me. Telling me that she warned me but I never listened. Only if I had listened. As she talked, I couldn’t even speak a word. I asked if there was anyway she can help me. She said there was no way she could help. The one she rendered some months back, I never headed to it. I was so arrogant to take it, now look at were it has landed me. Na so I begin knee down beg ooo. I started crying. She said the only thing she can help me do is to relate the matter with Nigerian Government, thereby putting my name and picture on Nigerian media. So if the Nigerian Government can help some of us who are been tortured in Malaysian prisons. I thought about that idea, but its an embarrassment seeing my photos on the internet that am on death roll in Malaysia. She said that was the only way she could help so if the Federal Government can do something, maybe we can come to Nigeria to serve prison sentence. The idea was good because I don’t want to die. It was sure they would be taking us to court and sentencing us to death. As we were still talking, the Malaysian prison warder came and told her it was time to leave that the time given to her had elapse. Infact, before I knew what was happening, two hefty prison warders came and dragged me out of the place back to the cell.
As days went by, we began hearing rumours that they were going to kill all the 10 of us without charging us to court. That it was a waste of time, energy and money charging us to court. Well, how I wished that madam rose had done something fast. I wished that we would just get a notice that the order to kill us will be on hold and that we should be given prison sentence and transferred to Nigeria to serve it. But would they do that?
3 weeks later, about 6 mufti men and some few police came to our cell. They took 6 people from the cell. 2 days, 4 days 2 weeks and the 6 were yet to be brought back. It was unusual. Later, we heard that the 6 had been killed and buried and the officers will soon return to kill the rest 4 of us. Na so fear just enter my body.
3 days later, 4 hefty military men came to our cell and took the rest of us away. I was so scared. I began imagining how we were going to be killed. I wished I had talk to any of my family members. I wished madam rose was there with me. I looked around. I felt it was my last day on planet earth, the world in general. They took us to court. And the session lasted for about 15 minutes. They were just speaking Malaysian language. I, soji and the rest 2 couldn’t even understand what they were speaking. They took us back to the cell.
When we returned to the cell, two hours later, two prison warders came and told me that someone wants to see me and I followed them. I was scared. Even soji spoke in pidgin language and encouraged me. I guessed it was my own time, I would be killed. I got to the visiting place and it was a white American. He told me his name and that he is a human rights activist based in Malaysia. He asked me to seat. He asked me to narrate everything that happened and how we were caught. I narrated everything to him. He said he heard 6 of us have been killed, remaining 4 of us. And an order had been passed that the rest of us should be killed in the next 5 days but madam rose got in touch with him and explained the situation. So he had forwarded it to Amnesty international accusing Malaysian security officials of extra judicial killings. That at least they should have taken us to court of law which would finally give the sentence or decide our fate rather than start killing us like that. So it was Amnesty international that wrote to Malaysian Government to do something which triggered the officials to take us to court that day. “But what’s the need?” I asked, since they are still going to sentence us to death. Well he said to me that we might be lucky they just give us jail terms rather than death sentence. He said that they were making sure that we were not killed without judicial order. He encouraged me and told me that madam rose had contacted my parents. He said madam rose said the only thing my dad said was that I am on my own. If they like do anything they want to do with me. Chaiii, the man sef no send. He also said that our next visit to court, a lawyer would be provided for us and he would be there.
After talking, I returned to the cell believing God Almighty for a miracle. That I would live to serve him.
2 days later, we were taken to court again. It didn’t even take time. Just 20 minutes and the judge delivered judgment. She spoke in their Malaysian language while they interpreted to us. They sentenced the other 2 guys to death by firing while I and soji, our case were adjourned till the upper week. I began wondering why it was so since we were all caught together. Even the way we were caught at the airport was suspicious. It seemed like a set up. Everything was just abnormal in my eyes. I thought we would be sentenced the same time but they only sentenced 2.
Unfortunately, the week of our final judgment came. I was no longer scared. I was ready to take anything that came my way. The judgment was scheduled in the afternoon. That same day was the day the other 2 were executed in the morning.
Afternoon came and we went to court. I and soji prayed. Though I wept so hard that morning for the other 2 guys.
At the court, judgment was given, but it was an unfortunate judgment. Soji was…………

As we were been driven to airport to go board the plane going to Jakarta. I began thinking of what I would do with my $6000. Surely, returning to Nigeria was not part of it. Earlier, soji had suggested we move to Trinidad and Tobago, at least it’s a Visa free country and there are so many job opportunities. We work for a while and then move to the U.S. I agreed with him but we don’t know anyone in Trinidad and Tobago. He said I shouldn’t worry that he knows someone there and they are going to help us with what we need.
We were dropped at the airport by agents the Malaysian business magnate sent to us. We went for checking, we and the small bags we were carrying. Immediately it got to my turn, I began sweating, goose pimples all over my body. The security at the checking point asked why I was sweating and shaking. I couldn’t even alter a word. I smiled and told him I had phobia for height. He smiled and didn’t say anything. After checking, we went to seat at the waiting corner. As I sat down, my mind was not at rest, I was sitting close to soji. The agents at the airport gave us instructions which we adhered to. They told us not to cluster around each other, we should scatter ourselves in twos. As I sat thinking how life would look like if I was successful, I fell into a deep sleep, I had a terrible dream. In that dream, I was been chased by many people. I was caught and beaten terribly. A hole was dug and I was thrown into it. They were pouring sand on me inside the hole, apparently burying me alive. I began shouting and woke up immediately sweating profusely inside A.C. Soji noticed the way I woke up. He asked what the matter was. I told him the dream I had. He told me that I was worrying myself that the security agents would catch us. But why I no go worry! When I dey dream different bad dreams. I was just uncomfortable. I couldn’t think straight. The earpiece was still on my ears covering the packages. Soji said I should relax and be calm. Surely, going back was not the better option because we had been warned. It was better we never made ourselves available than doing and opting out at the late minute, because the business magnate would make our lives unbearable. And he kills. Story continues....... |

This beautiful Saturday, soji’s passport was yet to expire but mine was lost. Immediately we (I and soji) agreed to join the next 10 people, another Nigerian passport was done for me. I don’t even know how the people got to do it with the Nigerian embassy. All 10 of us were Nigerians. Barely a week I got a new passport, we were taken to Indonesian embassy and visa was given to us without any disturbance or even harassment. Money indeed is power and when one has it, he has numerous connections. 2 days to leave to Jakarta, I started having numerous weird dreams. It was a season of nightmare. When I sleep at night, I will see Indonesian police chasing me. Sometimes I saw, eat and relate with dead people. At a time I became scared. I called soji and told him about it. He encouraged me and I shouldn’t be afraid. The day we were to travel, we had already been lodged in a hotel earlier. The morning, we were given a music player with ear piece. Some little quantity of Cocaine were inserted into our ears and was covered with a brown stuff that even when we remove the earpiece, one can hardly know that something was inside the ears. We were asked to use ear piece to cover it, which we did. They also gave us wrist watches which they said had cocaine inside. Looking at the wrist watches, I couldn’t even imagine how they even did it, inserting cocaine. We were told that each of us were carrying cocaine worth $75,000. Someone would be at Jakarta airport waiting for us. After delivery, we would be given $6000 each then we can find our way. To be continued....... |

Abi some people no dey read English wella. Like the previous comments i had with Jayjustus , when security agents know that a particular area, people is prone to notorious activities, they don't trust you. They would definitely follow you. 'Hotel plan B" is not the real name of the hotel but dubious things happens there. I didn't write this story for any one to believe or not. Just last year here, a friend of mine nearly lost his life in one of the asian countries. He's back in Naija to finish his HND. When u go through dubious means, the dubious people who brought u in, as long as you associate with them, my brother man and my sister woman, if any thing happens, na all of una dem go dey chase. The next day, I met with madam rose when she came to the bar. I told her my decision. That I wasn’t ready to go back to Nigeria. Well she wished me well but that I was just putting my life in danger and time is going. My mates sef don pass me and I am still in kuala struggling. I ignored her words. I was determined to stay back believing that all would be well soon. Madam rose gave me her Nigerian mobile number just incase of anything. I gracefully collected it. As I left the place, the thing was still doing me double mind, whether I made the wrong choices in my decision. But I braced and encouraged myself, feeling that no evil would happen, and that in no short time, na Rolls Royce I go carry come for my papa. I was becoming stronger and tougher. Few weeks later, I was washing my boxers at the dustbin house when soji came to me. He said something came up. I asked what that was. He said someone made a proposal to us (illegal immigrants). ‘Which proposal be that kind one,’ I thought to myself because he told me that it’s a wealthy Malaysian that brought up the proposal. The man normally comes to the bar to drink. I just hoped it’s not death proposal. I asked what kind of proposal was that. He said that he needs 10 people to help push something to Indonesia. I began asking what would they pushing to Malaysia. Soji said that they didn’t tell him. That it was Ebuka that called and was telling him about the proposal. As soji said that, my mind had already gone to drugs. I believed they wanted 10 people that will transport drugs to Indonesia and I was not ready to do that. That one sef is a death proposal. All Asian countries doesn’t joke with drug related offences. When caught, that one na death sentence. Me sef, I just tell them say I no dey interested because I just felt it would be drugs they would push. Two days later, I walked into the new house, I met them deliberating who would be going to Indonesia. They said the man who made the proposal said he would be paying each person $2,000 just to push the stuff. Me sef I no care. I left the place. I can never push drugs. I went outside to meet soji. I asked him if he wasn’t joining them to push. He said that one was death sentence, because it is pasted in Indonesia at every airports, seaports and even if one walks 0ne pole, they would definitely see the signpost, “EVERY DRUG RELATED OFFENCES IS DEATH SENTENCE.’ So he wasn’t ready to die. 2 days later, I and soji were at the dustbin house when one of the guys came to meet us. We began arguing about the proposal. Some guys started telling me majority of people who had succeeded in pushing drugs to Indonesia have made it. They were willing to volunteer themselves. They mentioned their names. I wasn’t even interested because I no wan push anything. 3 days later, I and soji were talking and he was telling me that it was indeed hard drugs the Malaysian business man wants them to transport to Jakarta, Indonesia. And with over 50 of us, only 4 people had agreed to risk their lives. Soji said he was telling to know if I was interested in joining those that are going. Me I just reject am. He laughed. 3 weeks later, soji said he got a call from one of our colleagues who was part of the people that transported drugs for the Malaysian business man. He said the guy called through ebuka’s line, saying they succeeded in delivering the drugs and they had been paid and infact the man is planning to help them start a better life in Europe. Well I was happy for them and wished them well. Soji told me that they have started looking for another set of people to transport drugs to Jakarta. Me I tell am say I no dey interested. He told me he was tempted to go with them since he had been in Kuala for long. Maybe when he gets to Jakarta, he would start a better life with the money that would be paid and for this one, $5,900 would be paid. And it’s an opportunity to get an Indonesian Visa. Another thing is that for those that their passport has expired, they would help bribe their way to the Nigerian embassy in Malaysia and it would be renewed. As the guy was talking, I was just nodding because I wasn’t ready to join in the race. Even the Nigerian embassy in Malaysia is very corrupt with so many bribery allegations. As time went on many illegal immigrants, our colleagues were joining in the race. We were reducing and it seemed I and soji were the only reluctant. And we were yet to hear about anyone that has been caught. The only thing we heard in weeks were that some of them were leaving Indonesia and moving to Europe to start a better life. I even heard that one of the guys that first pushed drugs to Jakarta, one of them had even bought a car. As days go by, I and soji were tempted to join the band wagon. Soji was telling me that the next one that would be pushing, he would join them. Me I no dull myself. The pressure was on me to follow suit. Malaysia wasn’t the promise land I dreamt off. I wanted a better life. I thought Malaysia was like the lost Garden of Eden, I never knew that it wasn’t what I dreamt of. I had to take my stand. www.hovabuzz.comto be continued.... |
