Na wa o. So when in doubt, paint your enemy as a sinner or heathen.

We get it, Yoruba = heathens cursed by God, Igbo = Christians blessed by God.

Simple hypotheses for complicated phenomena generally lead to shoddy conclusions.
I won't even argue you on this point. All you need to do is go find out by yourself.

I pity anyone who never read the bible.
That information was just BTW.

Carry on with your celebration of death of innocent children.

For dayokanu and his followers, think about something. It may tell you a thing or two.

One of my cousins who is a medical doctor shared a particular troubling information.

He said that while on his housemanship and youth services in western Nigeria, he saw certain types of sicknesses he never saw throughout his medical schooling at the University of Nigeria Enugu (UNTH). He recalls it well because he now works at one of the federal medical centers in the east. He recalls that while in Yorubaland, he was shocked to see too many congenital abnormalities -children born without anus, and so MANY abnormalities like people born with both sexual organs. He wondered why the east had VERY FEW of those types of diseases.

He couldn't explain it because those parts of the west had more facilities than the east.  So why all the diseases?

Well, I refereed him to the Bible. God's promises to his people

Deuteronomy Chapter 28:

28:3  Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.

28:4  Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your animals, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock.

28:5  Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading-trough.

28:6  Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

For the enemies of humanity who killed innocent children:

28:27  Yahweh will strike you with the boil of Egypt, and with the tumors, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, whereof you can not be healed.

28:28  Yahweh will strike you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart

Proverbs 14:34

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

The war ended 43 years ago, but Ndigbo are not suffering from the plagues of Egypt. The victors are.

The other thing I noticed is that someone like dayokanu -who kept flying a figure of 500,000 Biafrans "killed by Adekunle" -was actually rejoicing at the deaths of women and children who died from strafing and starvation.

The actual total Biafran military death was not even up to 200,000; while Nigerian military death was placed at 250,000.
Just crossing the Niger bridge from Asaba to Onitsha cost the Nigerians 5000 men.

Believe me those are no mean feats by the Biafrans.  cool

I think that folks like dayokanu are just gleeful at the deaths of non-combatant innocent civilians.
PoliticsRe: Video Footage Of Aguiyi-ironsi, Nzeogwu, Sardauna’s House, Katsina…. by Onlytruth(m): 4:54am On Feb 08, 2011
I've told my Igbo brothers to ignore all these loudmouths whose participation in the war was not the decisive factor in Biafra's defeat.

Could a Benjamin Adenkule (though not even Yoruba undecided) have accomplished anything without the foot soldiers from middle belt and the Chadian "gwodo gwodo"? HELL NO.

To understand this question more, consider the fact that western Nigeria was lagging the East and North in terms of military personnel and was not meeting up its own quota in the military by 1964; which is part of why western region was powerless against the northern Nigerian forces effectively forcing them into war with Biafra, after "general" Ogundipe had fled.

So instead of coming here to acknowledge that they were weak and powerless against northern Nigerian troops, and were used by the north, they are here bragging. undecided

I've never had any doubt in my mind that if there is another war, Ndigbo will volunteer fighting men/women faster than Yorubaland can ever muster.

What I don't understand is the open "bravery delusion" being displayed by folks who are otherwise cowards. sad

Come on my brother! Nzeogwu was true patriot and a courageous man.

Now I must say he was brash
, but Ojukwu knew that Nzeogwu would always be a threat to him.

Now tell me why Nzeogwu had to die?
He had to die because the Nigeria of his dreams (for which he risked the lives of millions of Igbo in Nigeria) never existed. It still doesn't exist. If he couldn't figure that out, why did he participate in the coup? huh undecided

So when problems started as a result of his actions and Ojukwu saved his @55 and kept him alive in the east, he was still scheming to actualize the Nigeria of his dreams without remembering that the train had long left the station. undecided

Nigeria was in deep trouble and he would have been killed by northerners if they got him.

He might have thought he could sabotage Biafra (he believed in Nigeria till his death). I don't believe Ojukwu killed him, but I would understand if he did because for Ojukwu, Nzeogwu was a clueless rascal.  cool

PhysicsMHD,

Thanks for putting it in perspective.   Shocked

I don't know how I feel about this. Dr. Michael Okpara is someone I had the deepest respect. However, I can see why Nzeogwu would want to do away with the old guard.

They should of got that Igbo traitor Nnamdi Azikiwe. (Personal rant)

Anyway, I still have the deepest respect for Nzeogwu, and I feel that Ojukwu had him killed. (Igbo brethren do not get mad at me).
The guy had to die because he was clueless.
You can't be planning the impossible all the time.
If Ironsi had killed him earlier, Ndigbo would have been saved a lot of hassles.

Coal is a helluva lot cheaper than almost anything else. I don't think you should rule out using it w/o a feasibility study first.

Even if Nigeria generated enough electricity to meet its demands, at full capacity probably 30% from coal (or something in that ballpark) is enough to keep the environment safe.

And of course, we are very far from capacity.

So probably not a big deal in the short term.
You are right and wrong on the bolded.
Yes, on face value and initial capital outlay it MAY be cheaper (but don't forget the cost of transporting coal from Enugu to the city which can quickly ratchet up cost).
The most prohibitive cost would be health costs -increased cases of respiratory diseases :asthma, emphysema/brocho-related diseases which will run into billions.
I would avoid that and use the local gas supply. It is local and cleaner.

I want to believe this, but developing a city such as this would cost millions or even billions of dollars. Where is the funding coming from we must ask ourselves? Private donors?

I checked the website out and I still have questions.
I would like to believe that the planning and construction of roads would be a government endeavor, but the actual development would be private driven.
If the government can build the first sets of arterial roads, people will snap up the properties and start developing it.
Nigerian's don't miss this type of opportunity.

The plan is the key.

Have they broke ground for this new city? And where are they getting the funding for this project if it isn't from the government?
Good questions!
I'm hoping that someone would furnish the answers.
I also want to know their plans to link it with Asaba airport just across the river Niger.

That will help determine whether it will grow quickly.

How will the city be powered? If they take care of this issue (with a power plant burning on say coal or NG), then it should very successful.
I would prefer natural gas of course because of its low carbon footprint. This is 21 century, and all planning must necessarily come with good environmental planning. Coal is only good if you bring the latest technology from the US.
There is abundance of natural gas in Anambra state, so they should target that.

Then, there is no hope for the Ndigbo.
As a matter of fact, there is great hope for Ndigbo because I can quickly articulate what Igbo political maneuvers in Nigeria should be.
Most of the Igbo politicians I see around at the center don't have any philosophy. They are just following other Nigerian groups in PDP, ACN and ANPP, helping to implement other groups' agenda. Igbo politician lethargy with APGA tells me that they've not learned anything from history. Only Ojukwu understood it well, but now he is missing.

I am not complaining about the revolution. The question is that the revolution was a bit baised, you have to agree. How come Azikwe escaped during the revolution? Was he tipped off? Was Azikwe not part and parcel of the corrupt Government? How come Dr. Okpara was not killed during the revolution??

I quite agree on one of the points Ezeuche made, which is that the Northern youths were used by their leaders back then to get into power bt until those questions above are answered then there would still be question marks about the coup.
Let me ask you a question.
Assuming that Ironsi was not naive, and moved quickly to consolidate his power around trusted Igbo or Eastern military officers and security experts BEFORE making ANY structural changes to the nation, do you think Nigeria would have gone down the way it did?
It was a very simple thing; bring the military firmly under your control before anything. Obasanjo did it even though he never implemented any major changes to Nigeria. How much more was that necessary at a time the north was seething with rage and rioting.

He blew it for me and my children. I am harping on this point to warn any eastern political figure to not act in ways that destroy our gains and future.

Nigeria is VERY EASY to rule, 'cos most folks down there are cowards.

I agree on one thing which is, the pogroms were used and caused by the Northern highly placed members in the society to have power.
But guys, I have always wondered, How come Azikwe escaped but Akintola and Amado Bello were killed? Did Azikwe receive a tip-off? Was he not in the same "corrupt" regime??
My friend face the topic and stop trying to insult your father. Because of people like you and Katsumoto, there is NO CHANCE that any patriotic act capable of shaking the nations foundations would ever materialize in Nigeria.

The events of 1966 are all the lessons needed by any would-be Nigerian revolutionary. IT AIN'T HAPPENING!

PoliticsRe: Video Footage Of Aguiyi-ironsi, Nzeogwu, Sardauna’s House, Katsina…. by Onlytruth(m): 11:23pm On Feb 06, 2011
I can only blame Ironsi, and that is for his naivety in misreading Nigeria of the time.

How can far junior officers like Murtala Muhammad and Ojukwu know about tribalism more than him, a supreme military commander of the Nigerian army? huh huh huh

How couldn't he see that whatever he dreamt about was irrelevant to the realities on the ground? huh huh huh

Above all, how could he have missed the huge sign presented by the first northern riot of May 1966? huh huh huh huh

Any thinking person would take PERSONAL security measures immediately after that riot. HE DIDN'T. sad

In fact I would guess that when he failed to use the May '66 riots as an opportunity to bring the north under his control, he unwittingly emboldened the July coup plotters. He told them in no uncertain terms "I am weak and clueless, here I am, come get me!". . .  and they did- brutally leaving in their wakes 43 years of murder, theft and ineptitude.

Frankly, I don't think I can ever forgive Ironsi.  sad

That's what I deduced from the video too. The coup was a popular one and no one seemed to mind until after the July counter coup when the Northerners painted the previous coup as an Igbo coup to justify their actions.
Of course it is self evident. If there was no July '66 coup, believe me Nigeria would never have known about a purported Igbo coup. The mutineers of July '66 had to quickly come up with a justification.
Just like the northerners are now coming around to support Jonathan as a leader of an emerging new Nigeria where tribe or minority status no longer decide ones electability in Nigeria; the north would have come around to support the change initiated by the January '66 coupists.

I don't even want to address Ironsi's naivety because that much is obvious to everyone.

Jonathan's steps so far show that he is not that naive.

Guys, we are getting waaaaaaay off topic!
That video of the press conference with Ironsi tells much. The deliberate and circumspect manner in which he answered questions should tell you that this was a man outside his comfort zone and was not apt for the job thrust upon him. To answer some of the questions:

1) Ironsi trusted in his northern soldiers bc he believed the army was a "brotherhood". He saw the world in simple terms and thought the soldiers were above whatever mess the politicians could create.  He did not realise the brotherly bond in the army was shattered on the night of Jan 15, when soldiers murdered their brother officers in cold blood. Brig Maimalari's murder was a case in point.

2) Very easy to critique now bc of hindsight (which was not available to Ironsi, Murtala, Danjuma, Fajuyi etc). I'm sure if given a second chance, all of them would have acted differently - if they knew the disastrous consequences their actions would bring.
I still believe that the main lesson from that video -as a Nigerian citizen- is the one given by the journalist, which is that the coup was patriotic, no matter how much revisionists try to tell us otherwise. If there was no July '66 counter-coup (assuming that folks really didn't think tribalistically like Ironsi who was assuming a "brotherhood" in the NIGERIAN military), we would never have revisionists telling us otherwise.

Of course for leaders of Nigeria, especially folks like current president Goodluck Jonathan, they would do well to learn that tribalism is the most relevant factor in the Nigerian politics, if that can be qualified as "good".

Save the BS, get out of that your little hate filled world you tribalistic bigot.
lol, I don't think a lot of people on nairaland know that katsumoto is arguably the most tribalistic Yoruba on this forum. sad

I figured him out in less than a day -he is a whited sepulcher: smooth, sounding erudite and polished, but inside is full of "hypocrisy and iniquity" (to borrow from Jesus' description of scribes and pharisees in the bible); and I would add PURE HATE.

Any smart person can figure him out in less than a day. He is incapable of accepting the truth once it goes against his main aim which is to continue distortion of history to justify evil perpetrated by evil men against NIGERIAN INTEREST and thousands of innocent women and children.

Back to topic:

I can summarize the national feelings about the January 1966 coup from the account given by the journalist gentleman in the video ( a sharp and well spoken Yoruba man BTW); the coup was a patriotic coup targeting thieves in government and was carried out to stop feudalism on its tracks.
Till the end of the video, that was the ONLY facts gleaned from the unbiased comment by a Nigerian journalist. The guy sounded like an Owoye Lakemfa or Obi Nwakama or Okey Ndibe of today. We Nigerians have always known our problems even from Jan 1966. We only fail at the edge of breakthroughs, because of characters like Katsumoto.   sad cry embarassed sad
