DRANOEL:Interesting. |
Well, Big B I tell you if IBB were into something good, or did something good throughout his eight years of military misrule, the Nigerian newspapers will still want to profit by telling false?? stories about his developmental feat! - or don't you think so?! |
Familiy Affair: A euphemism for internal party squabbles or in-fighting that might result in deaths, chaos and dire consequences. See also, PDP |
Spicy, Welcome to Nairaland. |
Odeku, you just don't get it do you. I don't give a hoot whether it's root cause, leaves cause, branches cause ,woteva! Only God will judge the evil ones who delight in the anguish of other people. |
Aside from the $8.9million for the wife (Chief Mrs Mariam Babangida- nee Okogwu) of the military ruler's foreign trips, a lot of money also exchanged hands with his inlaws in Asaba - specifically Cheif Sonny Okogwu (propounder of the North-South Oil Drift hypothesis), money also exchanged hands in facilitating the movt. of Delta State capital to Asaba. Eternal punishments, anguish, terror and grief awaits all the looters of the Niger Delta resources and their co-conspirators in this world and in the world to come. |
You both seem lost in a world of your own. Happy sailing! |
Sijien:I have said it time and again that all of the activities of militants in the delta area are just a foretaste of the troubles that looms large ahead of us. Myopic views like yours fails to recognise the larger Nigerian problems of ethnic bigotry, institutionalised corruption, jealousy and hatred for Minority ethnic groups in the Niger Delta. |
This one is from ThisDay newspapers, today. It seems the coast will be clear for the Diploma folks soon. Senate Considers Bill on Degree, HND Harmonisation From Sufuyan Ojeifo in Abuja, 09.01.2006 The Senate has received a Bill for an Act to prevent discrimination against graduates and staff members of polytechnics and similar institutions in Nigeria in the areas of employment, promotion and career prospect. The Bill, which was sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Joy Emordi and passed through first reading yesterday, has prescribed a five-year jail term for any person and/or corporate body who contravenes the provisions contained therein. Cited as “A Bill for Act to Provide for the Prevention of Discrimination against Graduates and Staff of Polytechnics and Similar Institutions in Nigeria and for other Matters Connected Therewith”, the sponsor said that when passed, it may be cited as “Polytechnic (prevention of Discrimination) Act, 2006. '' The provisions of the bill, which is awaiting second reading in the Senate, under standards say: “As from the commencement of this Act and subject to the provisions of the (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, 1985, which provides responsibility for the establishment of standards in Polytechnics shall remain, vested in the Ministry of Education after consultation with the National Board for Technical Education” On salaries, allowances, promotion of polytechnic graduates harmonisation, the Bill states, “Entry points of salary, allowance, promotion and career prospect of graduates and staff of polytechnics and similar institutions shall be harmonised with other graduates in all public, private and civil service”. It furthers states that, “Subject to the provision of this Act, any government agency or private sector that discriminates against graduates and staff of polytechnics and similar institutions in terms of employment, promotion and career prospect, any person, corporate body who contravenes the provision of this Act shall be guilty of an offence punishable on conviction to a term of not less than five years or a fine of not less than N500,000 for individual firm and N1,000,000 for public organization and or both”. |
seriki, Now you're singing a new song. |
It's a crazy world we're in. A very rowdy crazy world. Who will restore order, sanity and the much needed peace? Who?? |
But, why would the FG want to go ahead with this plan, knowing that it will eventually go up in flames? I mean, why waste time and energy on something like this, when we all know it's just not right? Smacks of sheer wickedness at it's peak. |
Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the First Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria. He was from Ijebu-Remo in Ogun State. Yet he stayed at Ibadan to sit at the helm of affairs in the Western Region and there was no trouble. He achieved so much for the Yorubas that they have taken Awo as a demigod. But that does not automatically qualify Remo as a state capital. Spare me all those crap about Dennis Osadebe and Lander brothers. Chief Philip Asiodu is the one who told the military government in the 70s that the Niger Delta people are just a bunch of feeble freedom fighters. He said if they make too much noise, the FG should use it's military might to quell any uprising from them. Go read the history of that evil man and know what stuff he's made of. You talk of ethnicity as if it's not here to stay with us. Where I work, the so many Yoruba and Igbos loves communicating in their language whenever they've got something that they know might benefit everybody. But they love communicating such to their tribal groups first. They even prefer employing their ethnic groups to any other group. If you're not satisfied with Ibori's performance in Igbo speaking part of Delta, please join your brothers in Anambra. Or carry your complaints to Abuja and seek help. And when you get there, tell them to give you your own state - Anioma, so that you can get your own part of the national cake from the Niger Delta. Your people got what they want by stirring the horners nests. So, let the bees sting them. And whether it's Okogwu on Odogwu, I do not give a hoot. They're thesame bunch of North-South oil drift amateur scientists. Thanks for the correction anyway. Please tell your sister (Mariam IBB) to advice IBB to drop that Presidential ambition of his, because even if his inlaws in Asaba vote for him, that will not be enough to take him to Aso rock come May 29, 2007. Tell her this time around, no amount of maradoneering will take IBB to Aso Rock again! |
That the capital of a state like Delta is sited in another state by the evil genius IBB, in consultation with his wife and inlaw - Chief Sonny Odogwu - the propounder of the North-South Oil drift, is terrible enough for the real indigenes of Delta State. We thought that we were going to get a state of our own, but alas! the evil genius has his own Maradonaic agenda. That Asaba, before now, was a village by the Niger River cannot be disputed. It got shot to limelight when it was made capital of Delta State. Well, it seems they (the natives) are not satisfied with their current status. It's time they get their own state - Anioma. I understand they've been angling for it. Methink they'll get it pretty soon. Then we can say good riddance to bad rubbish. |
I have been LMAO!! |
http://www.strategiy.com/oilenergynew.asp?id=20060726104631 http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/southwest/sw125072006.html The Olokola LNG project is one that has drawn interests within and outside the country. At completion, it's expected to be the biggest LNG plant in Africa. I read in the dailies that the plan is to pipe gas from some Niger Delta oil/gas fields to feed this plant which will be sited in a boundary town between Ogun and Ondo States - Olokola. The other day, I read on the Guardian that Chevron has built an Oil School in Otta Ogun State Ogun State to cater for the people who will be working at the Olokola LNG site. So what's my beef with all these you'll ask? 1. Well, my people, I just want to ask (if you're familiar with the Nigerian Map) if it's economically justifiable to construct pipelines some hundreds of kilometres long across land and sea, to gather gas and feed a gigantic plant located somewhere outside the place where the raw materials for the plant is. 2. The location of this plant generated so much heat between Delta and Ondo states throughout last year. Delta claims the plant was originally meant to be sited in Escravos, Delta state, but was moved at the last minute by OBJ and his fellow Ogun and Ondo brothers to Olokola. Is this fair to the Niger Delta people? Is this how they plan to pacify the anger, frustration and the feelings of rape and neglect on the part of the Niger Delta people? Ogun and Ondo states government states that getting the plant on their land is their own way of jumpstarting their economy. I believe they can jumpstart their economy by promoting and investing in what's in abundance in their states (Cocoa, Kolanuts, Tarsands etc etc) rather than chanelling the resources of other states to their domain. This smacks of injustice at it's peak and I can only hope and pray that the project will not see the light of the day. |
Yeah, Otokx, it sure is. History has it that Asaba was founded by Bini and Igbo peeps. Methink it should be a part of present day Edo or Anambra State. |
david, Nna, how bodi? You don start again! Make I add one join: Treasonable Felony: A term recently ascribed to militant youths who dare challenge the status quo in the land, by democratic tribunals. See MASSOB and MEND, also see Asari Dokubo. |
1. (Mr. ono please see the definition of the Niger Delta: pg 15,and the map: cover page and page 45)It's going to be somewhat difficult to define the Niger Delta simply by looking at a map generated by some folks at Abuja, and swallowed hook line and sinker by the UN reporter. You need to know what ''Delta'' means in a ''technical'' sense, and not the ''political'' sense to understand why places like Asaba, Uruekpen, Benin and Auchi cannot be a part of the Niger Delta. So, here we go: A delta is a triangular shaped landform where the mouth of a river flows into an ocean, sea, desert or lake, building outwards (as a deltaic deposit) from sediment carried by the river and deposited as the water current is dissipated. Deltaic deposits of larger, heavily-laden rivers are characterised by the river channel dividing into multiple streams (distributaries), these divide and come together again to form a maze of active and inactive channels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_delta#Delta_formation I'll have loved to attach some real photographs. But, I'll refer you to wikipedia and some petroleum engineering geology sites to get these. Now, even in wikipedia, a section was created for defining the political Niger Delta, because that's what the Nigerian Government wants everyone to believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger_Delta. They (wikipedia) carefully quoted the Nigerian government in their definition, (The Niger Delta, as defined officially by the Nigerian Government,, ). It's good to have a technical definition, so that you'll not have a warped understanding of these things. I know even folks in Kano will soon begn to claim that Kano is a part of the Niger Delta very soon! Who will not like to associate himself with good things?! The irony of it all is that all these places only identify with the political Niger Delta, so long as oil money is flowing in from there. When it comes to environmental degradation, pollution, killings, militarisation, ethnic strife, improvishment, etc etc, other folks from the non-niger delta, delta, takes to their heels and zoom off. God dey. 2. Initially, I took a cursory look at the report. I'm done reading a many of pages. And I must say that this report, detailed as may look puts the blame of neglecting the Niger Delta development on past rulers and general maladministration. You will agree with me that it will take a lot of gut and will power to want to reverse in 8 years problems that were created and sustained by a wicked central government. Evidence from Chart 2.2 reveals that while some states made appreciable progress between 1992 and 2005, most states from the Niger Delta region, especially the South-South geo-political zone, performed poorly. Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa showed some retrogressive trends, while Ondo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers and Imo states achieved some progress." (Page 135)]"Evidence from Chart 2.2 reveals that while some states made appreciableprogress between 1992 and 2005, most states from the Niger Delta region, especially the South-South geo-political zone, performed poorly. Edo, Delta, andI thot that this should draw your ire instead, as a Niger Deltan. Other states made appreciable progress, how? Well, I'll tell you. The environment for those other places are somewhat conducive for progress. You need to visit the Delta and appreciate how enormous the problems in the area is to want to do anything tangible. I understand that the cost of constructing a kilometre of road in the Delta is enough to do 4 km in other places, that translate to spending four times the amount you'll spend ordinarily in other states. I don't think Delta state earns four times as that of other states. In all, that our leaders are generally corrupt is glaring for all to see. That means you can point accusing fingers at Ibori as a corrupt leader, and I will not blink an eye. So, we're saying thesame thing in this regard, but I disagree with you that this man is not good material for the Presidency. |
otokx: |
buluti:Ok. You've made your point. No wahalases. But I would have loved you put forward names of credible people who should be at the helm of affairs, in place of the roguish Ibori. |
Simple: In this case, Clean Hands - No need to run. Dirty (Soiled) Hands - Run for your dear life. I hope you understand. |
Otokx, that's right. Buluti will not see those ones. And reports such as the ones from the UN will easily pass as another fraud by Ibori. Please state the source of that UN report for all to see. Besides, Buluti is looking at the general picture across the land (Nigeria). He's looking at a bigger picture. Well, let me remind him here that the topic of this thread rests on Ibori and his performance at Delta state as governor in the past 7 years. The author of this thread wants us to look at his performance and tell if he's good enough as President come 2007 or not. So, let me ask him; Buluti, don't you think Ibori is a good enough candidate for Nigeria President come 2007? If yes/no, please state your reasons. And please don't talk about the larger Nigeria problems. There are several threads dedicated to that one. |
@Oriki, That's a balanced angle to the issue at hand. However, you need to know that miscreants have truly hijacked the struggles of the Niger Delta people. It's really unfortunate. I heard some ten MEND militants were killed in a gun battle two days ago. I must say that whatever the intention of the FG, killing these people will only escalate the problems in the area. What will STOP the activities of hoodlums and miscreants is the enthronment of true democratic structures across the land. Upholding the principles of true Federalism is the panacea we need. The inbalance in almost everything is at the root of all the problems bedevilling the land. |
