No doubt you did not read the full lenght of that yahoo news write up.

The Abuja-based federal government apportions the earnings from Nigeria's oil industry. Despite the great riches, most of the Niger Delta is mired in extreme poverty, and most residents live without electricity, health care or schools. Many Nigerians accuse their leaders of stealing much of the oil funds. Nigeria is routinely ranked among the world's most-corrupt nation.
That's from the site you posted. Men and women of conscience knows the truth when they see it.
PoliticsRe: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 3:42pm On Aug 19, 2006
Erm, buluti, sawrie o! Sincere apologies. I must have missed that one.

I did not answer your question on working with the Delta State civil service. I said I'll address other points you raised later on.

So, YES, I'll gladly love to work in the Delta State Civil Service and serve my fatherland. Now, are you satisfied with that? or what more do you need from me to convince you?

Bringing OBJ into this matter does not connote anything defeatist in my last entry. You allege that Ibori has done nothing worth noticing with the huge billions allocated to the state. The EFCC (OBJ's Bulldogs) are in this country, so also is Ibori. Ibori should have been nabbed, arrested, taken behind bars by the EFCC, if all these your allegations are true. Or is Ibori above the law?

Accountability: Well, we've demanded, and we're still demanding for that without any iota of success. We hope that someday, we'll have it. In one of my entries on this forum, I stated the REASONS, why we cannot have any form of transparency or accontability and other juicy things you wished for. I'll post it in here for you to read, no point typing it out all over again.

My intention was not to convince anybody or criticise but to state the facts and leave us to our conscience. Its the facts thats criticising not me. We can be better than this. How i wish theres so much transparency so we know what our leaders are worth.
But you have tried to ''convince'' our readers why Ibori cannot, or will not be a good material for Nigeria President, come 2007. You carefully quoted facts ascribed to Delta State only and carefully left out what accrues to the Federal Govt, FCDA, other ''mouths'' that need to be fed with the Niger Delta Resources. And you claim you're just stating facts and leaving us to our conscience. Next time you're quoting facts, quote all of them for all to see and then leave us and our conscience to judge.

If we are happy with the present leadership, then its okay, am not and i speak for myself. I demand so much more from them, i have seen what other countries demand from their leaders, those guys have to be on their toes, ours are too relaxed.
Personally, I'm generally not happy with the present state of things across the country. I've repeatedly stated my grievances on all fronts (political leadership, resource distribution, justice system, and general administration across the land) in most of my posts on this forum. Something I dislike though is comparing myself with others in terms of achievements. I'm the contented type. That does not mean that I shut out any idea of getting to higher height, but I'll rather get there at my own pace. And I think and believe this should apply to Nigeria as well. We will get there. But let us not rush things. Except you're saying we're not fast enough, I think in Delta State in particular, we're making progress.

We're not progressing at a fast pace because of endemic corruption. Read up my links. Only the practice of true Federalism will liberate us. And I see you've left Delta State now, you're comparing Nigeria with other countries. It's all well and good, but note that you're deviating. If you want to focus on Delta then do so, and leave out the greater Nigeria problems for now. It's the ''little'' achievements of James Ibori in Delta State that made the originator of this thread come up with his question, and I think we should address that for now.
PoliticsRe: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 5:34pm On Aug 18, 2006
buluti,
Well, I never meant to correct your spelling. I only highlighted some of my words for emphasis. So, you're on your own on that inference. I'm not a master of English, and I don't look down on anyone who makes any mistake writing it. After all, it's not my mother tongue. I just try to read meanings, as best as I can, to any entry. Now that said,

buluti:
I said I personally agitate for true federalism where each federating state has greater if not 100% control of its resources and perhaps sends a percentage to the centre,,  I support it
No you did not. That was what the originator of this thread stated in his first entry. You set out to criticise Ibori and tell the whole world why he should not be Presido. And criticise you have done very well. It's just that you could not convince me with your facts.

buluti:
ono, please look at the figures, all am asking for is accountability. If truly the funds allocated are being spent. Let them show us. Its not only Delta, Edo, Rivers, Kaduna e.t.c, they should be accountable to the electorate. Delta pays his staff well, really? Didn’t know if you had a choice you would work for Delta state instead of Shell or Chevron. While am not saying they should earn the same the disparity is still too much, civil service is still very inefficient. Standard of living is too low, thats why they still collect bribes and abuse the office they are not paid well enough.
So, if it's not only the states, then the FG is culpable too, don't you think so? If you don't know what Delta pays her civil servants, ask from those who know. Let them tell you what Delta State civil servant monthly wage bill looks like, so that you'll know that the money coming to Delta does not just vanish into thin air.

Well I know Delta Civil service has improved tremendously under Ibori. That guy is a morale booster, go and ask. The Education Commissioner (Pry & Sec) Mrs. Ogboagwu just got recognised recently at Abuja for her laudable roles in reforming Delta State education ministry. Delta is once again at the fore front.

I know the standard of living all over the country is low. Who do you think should take the blame? Is it Ibori or OBJ who's at the helm of affairs. You're deviating o!

I will address other points later.

PoliticsRe: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 3:23pm On Aug 18, 2006
buluti,
I thank you. If those states contributes their widows mite from the sale of groundnuts, yams, cocoa, cassava (of late) and rice as their sources or revenues, don't you think it's just fair on the Niger delta to let them to take part of their own mite before sending the rest to the centre?.

Forget about all those global warming and competition gist of yours. Come down to level zero and face reality here in Nigeria. Those people started from somewhere too. The US as it is today has come a long way. That country is about 160 years old. Same with the UK.

You forget that Delta pays some of the highest salaries and emoluments to its civil servants, to the extent that people from neighbouring Anambra state now claims they are from Delta state just to get higher salaries. I hear Delta pays more than the FG to its civil servants. Like I said earlier, time would fail me to mention the others done by Ibori. When was the last time you went to Warri, Ughelli, Oghara, Sapele, Kwale, Oleh and other place to see what this man has done. How many governors can boast of similar achievements in their domains?
PoliticsRe: Has Anyone Considered Ibori For President? by ono(m): 7:23am On Aug 18, 2006
buluti,
Thank you very much for your post.

I lived in Warri for some 6 years before moving over to Portharcourt. And I know what James Ibori has done to better the lot of our people in that place. I don't know which part of the Niger Delta you come from. But I hope it's not Ekpoma or Uruekpen, or Asaba, because those places are really not a part of the Niger Delta.

Now, you've quoted ''true'' figures as per monthly allocation to Delta State. Thank you. But do you know how much the Federal Government and the FCDA gets at the end of every month? Please help me search and feedback. Besides, I will like to know how much the FCDA contributes to the Federal purse. I also know that between 1999 and 2005, Delta state alone contributed more than 5 trillion Naira to the National coffers - of course via crude oil extracted from the oil bearing regions of the state.

How much has other states (including Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Ogun, Kwara and Enugu) contributed to the national purse?

Ibori constructed so many bridges and roads across Delta state all these years. Let me list out the ones I can remember:

* The gigantic Bomadi Bridge, considered as a legacy site, was built with over 6 billion Naira. This is one bridge the Ijaws in both Delta and Bayelsa state will forever remember Ibori for. It is reputed to be one of the largest single project executed by a state governor in Nigerian history. I believe you don't even know where Bomadi is talk less of appreciating the size of the bridge.
The bridge was originally a Federal govt. project which was abandoned since the late 70s.

* Airpor road dualisation:
Warri residents will tell you how strategic this road is to the Warri metropolis. All along it has been a single carriageway. Ibori came and brought smiles on tha face of many, by dualising this very strategic road. What the state government did to dualise the road is better rendered by those who know.

* Warri City Stadium:
I have gone around this country a lot. This stadium will beat the Liberation stadium here in Portharcourt. It's huge and boasts of many facilities.

Time will fail me to talk about this man's achievement in the areas of education, health, sports - ha!, sports, who does not know tha Delta state is the team to beat at every years National Sports festival?

So, buluti, please take it easy on this man. No doubt he has his bad sides, but I thinnk he has done very well in the past seven years of his administering this state.

PoliticsRe: Babangida's Son Arrested By Efcc by ono(m): 8:25am On Aug 17, 2006
It's obvious that you lot have chosen to turn your face the other way. The truth stares you in the face and all you can do is to turn your back at it. It's all well and good.

Most of you guys come in here and call people like Alams, Ibori, Dariye and other governors in the country thieves after reading and listening to local news, believing such to be true and nothing but the truth. Here, you made my brother Nutter go all the way to search and convince you all about the King Kong OBJ's monthly income in a farm that is believed to be one of the biggest of it's kind in Sub Saharan Africa. Has anyone of you guys gone to this farm to see how big it is? Do you know who OBJs clients are? Nutter came with evidence to justify his claims in a very clean and clear manner. But because y'all have chosen to believe a lie, you damn whatever he has to give as evidence. I hope  your consciences have not been seared with a hot iron, to the extent that you all love believing lies.

Odeku feels if King Kong OBJ earns so much in a month, he should be among the first 100 on Forbes list. Well, I'll tell you that such frivolous things as ''appearing'' on Forbes 100 doesn't move people like the king kong. Besides, doesn't it sound absurd to ''your hearing'' that a ''serving'' presido's company in Africa should ''appear'' on that your glorified list?

Brother Nutter, no mind them. I know these things are true.  I'm even more surprised at Jakumo. He has a very good sense of judgement when it comes to ''these things'' but it seems he has joined the crowds of late.

All I can say is that they should use whatever is at their disposal (EFCC, ICPC, DOGS, TOUTS, AGBEROS, MURDERERS) to eliminate themselves. Somehow, a stage will be reached where we can breathe fresh air and come under human beings as our leaders.

I would have loved a situation where they can all be caged (all of them including IBB, ATIKU, OBJ, BUHARI etc etc) and allowed to engage in a free for all fight - fight to finish, as in fight to death - (Gladiators). Then they should call on me to shoot the last man standing among them. Then we can have some peace, or what do you think folks?

Yeah, that was a revealing, insightful, ''documentary'' of the IBB years. You know, many Nigerians have short memory. It's a nice way of bringing back the story of the IBB years at this crucial point in the nations history. It's like sounding a warning signal to erring IBB disciples.

I always prefer AIT to NTA when it comes to news and documentaries about Nigeria.

Jakumo:
Every time I hear of yet another terror plot by British-born Pakistanis, I wonder why the phuk it is that they don't all just simply return to the squalor of Pakistan if they hate the British so much as to commit suicide in a bid to murder innocents.

Better still, if those zealots are so intent on having sex with 70 virgins in heaven, why don't they just go ahead and hang themselves quietly in their homes so as to get on their way to the virgins without disturbing anyone else ?

Many of the parents of those pompous bearded dik-heads first came to Britain to enjoy the privileges of life there, so one can only ponder as to why it is that the offspring of those immigrants who have enjoyed from birth the UK's free education, unemployment benefits and free council housing, can now turn around and decide to murder innocent citizens of their adopted homeland. They ought to either go back to Pakistan or go ahead and commit suicide in private so that Darwinian natural selection ensures they are culled before they can do any harm to others.

deep,
Me too. I heard about that Ibori gist some months back. But, it has since died a natural death for want of ''credibility''. Anyway, who does not know that ''corruption'' is the ''tap root'' of the Nigerian society? Cut off corruption, and Nigeria will ''die''. Nigeria cannot ''survive'' without corruption.

You've got to be a ''dibia'' to understand which context I used ''survive'' in there.
PoliticsRe: Babangida's Son Arrested By Efcc by ono(m): 9:46am On Aug 14, 2006
These are interesting times indeed. That IBB is a confirmed never-do-well is no news. But that he has supporters (many, and across the country) who wants him to come back and rule after stepping aside is mind boggling! Who are these supporters? what's their stake in IBB?

I will not join the ranks of those waiting for time to tell on these people. We need to flush all these rotten eggs out of our system. Our children yet unborn will not forgive us for selling our conscience. They will exhume our bodies long after we are gone to ''torment'' us if we do not deal with these crop of people who want to see to it that we are consumed in our lands.

Looking closely at all these things, we see Nigeria being ruled by a clique of blood thirsty men and women. Instead of investing in human capital development, and empowering people, they prefer stashing away billions for their own selfish ends. Little wonder why Nigeria was worst hit in every sphere during the IBB years in office.

Now, the Niger Delta, where these wealth comes from remains in shackles and is in dire needs of attention. The other day, OBJ promised heaven on earth for the people in the region, supposedly to better their lot. But up unitil this time, work on the East-West road, which contract has been awarded for dualisation has not commenced. I am tired of repeating thesame thing over and over again!

Folks, this is just a tip of the iceberge. Come 2007, bloody clashes will eventually claim the lives of many. Looking deep into the root cause of the matter, it's nothing more than who's going to preside over the sharing of Lagos's portion of the national cake (Niger Delta oil money) at Abuja! Some one feels threatened by this Williams guy, and there's nothing he can do than to take his life.

In this day and age, someone who wants to rule/ govern will go this far to actualise his dreams? Tis sad.

I still believe that 2007 elections will make or mar this lopsided union. This country as we know it may not be thesame in 2007. Nigeria is cracking up along geopolitical lines. The eventual breakup of this country will be the climax of all the spate of killings, injustice, oppression, corruption, ethnic bigotry, murder etc etc that has characterised this administration and previous ones. PoliticsRe: Can You Die For Nigeria? by ono(m): 8:49pm On Jul 23, 2006
I see many of you folks won't die for Nigeria. I find this hard to correlate with your not willing that it should split up.

There are soldiers out there willing and ready to die for this country. Soldiers of other countries go to war to defend the interests of their nation (I bet you'd say they were trained to die, right?). Here we have many Nigerians on this board not willing to lay down their lives for their fatherland. But they don't want it the broken up either! What an irony!

Don't tell me there's no link whatsoever between breaking up and dying for the country. Your replies only shows how much you love your country - skindeep! And you're in Nigeria basically for what you can get from it.
