Igbo mandate Congress condoles with Shiites over massacre, seeks release of Zakzaky Posted by Adewole Martins on December 22, 2015 in News | Leave a response Igbo mandate Congress condoles with Shiites over massacre, seeks release of Zakzaky Igbo Mandate Congress wishes to officially condole with families of massacred members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, over the massacre of Zaria where estimated one thousand persons Shiite Muslims met untimely death. Igbo Mandate Congress, IMC had previously condemned the massacre especially when it was suspected that the death loll was ninety. Reports have shown that estimated one thousand persons were victims of the massacre, including the three children of Sheikh Zakzaky, leader of the sect. Igbo Mandate Congress views with outrage a situation whereby out of eight children of a religious leader, six were killed by the Nigerian Army over incidences which patience and dialogue could have resolved. IMC also noted that even the wounded were abducted from the hospitals and their whereabouts still unknown while the leader of the sect is still in military custody, instead of getting the best of medical attention. IMC wishes to state that the officers and men of the Nigerian Army should be taught the modern rules of dealing with civilian altercations, and should know that the frequent release of bullets is now outdated. IMC demands that the military should accept that they reacted over the issue and take corrective actions to avoid a future repeat of this ugly incidence. IMC also demands that President Buhari should also accept responsibility for these military excesses as Commander-in Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces and lead a delegation that should apologize to the sect for the excesses of his men. Igbo Mandate Congress wishes to convey deep felt sympathy for this endangered sect in Nigeria, especially the family of the sect leader who have lost six out of eight children to the excesses of the military. and demands the release of Sheikh Zakzaky and other detained sect members for proper medical treatment. Igbo Mandate Congress advises the Sunni Muslims in Nigeria to live at peace with their Shiite brothers and not emulate the schisms and dissension which had polarized the Middle East, turning it into a constant war zone. Igbo Mandate Congress had earlier on Saturday in a joint statement with Christian Association of Nigeria, South East, called for the release of detained Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, especially after the courts have granted him reprieve. IMC finds it disturbing that a fresh charge has been preferred against him, and asks the security authorities to release him without delay. IMC once again seeks justice over 20 murdered IPOB protesters at Onitsha and demands that abducted corpses be released to their relatives for proper burial. Being a statement by Rev. Obinna Akukwe, the Director General of the Igbo Mandate Congress. Copyright The Eagle Online. Zaria Massacre: Nigerian Military set up by Colonialists to Terrorize Citizens--Falana HR Activist Wednesday, 23 December 2015 07:54 Nigerian Lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, commented on the ChannelsTv breakfast show Yesterday morning that he was seriously disappointed that the Nigerian Presidency had thus far failed to condemn the undue massacre of civilians in Zaria. At least 200 and by some accounts as many as 1000 Shia Muslims were massacred by the Nigerian army under command of Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Buratai on December 12th to 13th. Femi Falana said that he was happy to see that President Buhari joined the world in condemning the France massacre but has refused to do so to this serious massacre at home. He explained that the Nigerian Police calls itself a “force,” whereas in other countries it is called a “department.” He explained that the army views civilians as “bloody civilians,” and as such massacres civilians at every opportunity as the colonialist trained them: to terrorize and extort citizens. He said the same attitude was experienced in Odi massacra, Zaki Biam, in Zaria wiht the Shia and in Igbo states recently during the Radio Biafra protests. Falana recommended that while the Federal government alone paid compensation when the government loses in court cases and pay damages, the officers must also be charged to pay out of the damages to instill a new mentality and sense of responsibility in the nation’s security agencies. He further said “Human rights” courses were lacking and must be introduced into Nigerian military schools. Rich4god:Wasn't it the same abacha who also detained fela and killed saro wiwa? Was he also having Intel? This Intel is blank cheque to commit atrocities. Are we in military/abacha regime? This Zakzaky man has been free since 1998 after abacha died. How many has he killed? |
To all those saying it is an unfortunate incident but the Shias brought it upon themselves. Please read the below Human Rights Watch report. It is long but a very good and detailed read. The unfortunate incident is on the road. What took soldiers to attack the house, cemetery and mosque of the Shiites of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria led by Zakzaky? Why did they attack those different and separate locations? It's either this is an overreaction or a preplanned massacre as the report pointed out. In all cases crimes against humanity. papparatzzi2013:aboki all of a sudden is displaying sense. for how many years have you been blocking roads in the name of friday prayers where your Sunni mosques are located? go to agege in Lagos on fridays, and precisely moshalashi alhaja, and see how how they abokis spread mats in the middle of the road, and holding whips. any passerby who is not among the worshipers is whipped and forced to turn back. hope soldiers would visit there too very soon. you are no better than those Shia youth displaying illiteracy and ignorance. they are even better because amongst them one could see sane people who have a sense of reasoning and can behave themselves. your educated ones are even more tout-ish than your illiterate ones. |
papparatzzi2013:yeah, "your roads"...because na ur papa build the road. even if na your road, must you butcher people on the road and then follow them into their houses and prayer center? is that what your religion taught you? God no dey sleep. ur turn go reach. |
animal, jungle justice and impunity are not allowed in a democracy. a government cannot practice lawlessness. there are things you wont understand with your backward jungle mentality. |
papparatzzi2013:Why the army is greatly blamed is because they later on launched an attack at the worship center and the sheikh's house (two separate locations) after they have shot people and cleared the road (a third separate location) for the convoy to pass. Why did they bring reinforcements to attack a worship center and a cleric's house after the convoy had passed? Was it Zakzaky that blocked the road? Was it his deputy who got shot and killed? Was it his wife and son who were shot? Was it the hundreds of people in the hussainiyyah and house? Why did the army escalate the situation and it led to hundreds of deaths , way more than the seven they shot to clear the road. This is inexcusable brutality and the culprits must be brought to justice and punished so a reoccurrence doesn't happen and the climate of impunity ends. Be talking trash to prove you're too wise. Whenever you break a law on the road or street, soldiers should beat the hell out of you. And when they are through with you, they will attack your house and flog your momsy and popsy. And then go to your church and beat everyone. Say a big amen! I'm only mentioning "flog", not even "kill". So you may realize the gravity and magnitude of the tragedy in Zaria. |
papparatzzi2013:"making them to come back to their correct sense" by killing hundreds? you must really see yourself as a genius. |
dulaman:who is "he"? |

CACAWA:whatever may be the answers to your questions, there is no need to waste over a thousand lives because of road block. worse, people imagine that all the lives lost were killed on the road block incident. they were not. after the road was cleared by force and the crowd got shot, reinforcements were brought in to attack the worship center and the cleric's house. it was in the house zakzaky was shot and arrested. why did the army later on return to attack the worship place and house? talking about road block, you all hypocrites have suddenly turned civilized for one political or religious reason or the other. when your people block roads on fridays you never complained. if zakzaky is doing anything illegal, there are many ways to apprehend him. zakzaky travels out of Nigeria a number of times, to Iran, Lebanon, London etc. he could have peacefully being arrested at the airport with no punch thrown and no bullet fired and no life wasted. it is however evident that the attack on the hussainiyyah and the house after the chief of army staff had passed is a planned operation. and now matter the offense the man himself committed, why also shoot his wife and son? and why use illegal and lawless means to check lawlessness? why use the military against citizens in a democracy? if you want answers, you really have more questions to answer. and the same goes for every right thinking mind who has a sense of humanity left in him. |
crosbreaka:Nna take one bottle. |
vislabraye:You hit the nail on the head. Why did soldiers attack the prayer hall and the cleric's house after the people were shot and the road cleared and the army chief had passed? Most of the casualties were at the hussainiyyah and the cleric's house. Acts of madness against innocent humans. |
vedaxcool: vedaxcool:You first started by lying they were armed. If they were armed, how many soldiers did they kill? And where are the weapons seized? The weapons seen in the video were catapults, sticks and stones confronting heavily armed soldiers. Then you used the excuse of them blocking the road. Why did the army attack their worship center and cleric's house after the convoy shot them and cleared the road and the army chief had already passed? When has the penalty for blocking roads being death in this country? How many of your Sunni mosques close roads on Fridays all over the country? Were they shot at? Finally, you want us to believe they deserve being killed in the hundreds because they were "badly behaved". Are you well behaved yourself? How many millions could be killed based on bad behavior? Saddam got handed the death penalty for killings he committed in a village where he almost got killed. You don't react with brute force collectively against a people even when you're provoked as an authority. It is not justified. Are we living in the jungle? Or in a democracy? Impunity has no place in a democracy. The world is watching and justice must prevail. |
El Rufai talking about assassination and ambush, and then referring to the video where soldiers are seen pleading with the angry youth.i think the former claim does not hold. i did not see any ambush in that video. to "ambush" means to lay waiting to attack. there was a road block and not an ambush and clearly no assassination attempt from the parts we could see in the video released. aside, he did not tell us why the army sent for reinforcements after the army chief had passed, and then attacked the sheikh's house and the prayer hall. that is if the road block was accidental and the youths were not reacting to the claim by the Islamic Movement that the attack on the prayer hall started even before the road block incident. El Rufai stating the prayer hall isnt legal makes one to think that the demolition was already pre-planned, and the Islamic Movement claim that the attack on the hussainiyyah (Shiite prayer hall) was before the road block could be very much true. even if there should be demolition, why send soldiers who kill to demolish buildings when a religious occasion was taking place and many thousands of people were converging on the religious site? why didnt the police handle this? El Rufai is a trademark name for demolitions everywhere like Y'ello and MTN! and how are we to believe a building standing has been an illegal structure for many years? and did the government deny the organization permit to build that led them to put up their building in disregard of laws? the more they are telling us, the more questions we are having. he did not mention about the fate of the dead bodies claimed today in a report to have been buried in mass graves to conceal the toll, and he did not mention about the whereabout of the sheikh and his family members. this was the same el rufai who visited Zakzaky in January in his "illegal structures". back then, when el rufai was campaigning and seeking votes and political support, he perhaps turned a blind eye that the sheikh he was visiting was using an "illegal building"! the below are pics of el rufai in january visiting Zakzaky in the "illegal" building! ![]() |
