i have watched the video released showing army officers asking Shites to clear the road. It is obvious that the Shiite followers of Zakzaky mistrust the army because of last year's tragic incident under the Jonathan administration, when three of Zakzaky's sons were killed and thirty members of his Islamic Movement in Nigeria. Undoubtedly, the army can claim anything after watching this video. Both sides could have avoided this incident by letting go their ego. The Shiites brought death upon themselves by blocking the road and confronting soldiers who don't value civilian life and play by democratic rules. This was suicidal in my view on the side of the Shiites. The Zakzaky followers provoked the soldiers going by this video. We however don't know what the soldiers mission was on that road and if the sect members felt threatened or thought the soldiers were on their way going to kill their leaders so they blocked the road and insisted not to clear. There is need for more details especially that the video is cut at one point. However, let us go by the narration and video we have at hand. The soldiers have "protected" themselves, refused to turn back and cleared the way and have killed those blocking the road.at this point, it is still a road blocking clash and things have happened. What is left to be understood is after the soldiers have cleared the way, why did they proceed to the Hussainiyyah and shot at sight and destroy the Islamic center? Why did they also go ahead to destroy the sheikh's house and shoot him and his family members? After the road blocking incident, the soldiers continued on the rampage on three different locations synonymous with the Islamic movement in Nigeria, far away from the road blocking incident location. More or less, it was revenge attacks and "lesson teaching" mission by soldiers. The Zakzaky followers were too overzealous and bold to confront the army and they are wrong to display stones, machetes and sticks in front of armed soldiers. That incident has passed. Why did the soldiers continue the attacks and extra judicial killings? I expect them to exercise restraint. And even if the sheikh was to be cautioned, the police or other ways should have been employed to caution him or even arrest him in a democratic dispensation. So clearly, the video explains the trigger and the mistrust and misunderstanding that happened and both sides lost it and the movement members more or less committed suicide. After the road block wahala had ended, the soldiers totally lost it and took law into their hands and went on revenge attacks and extra judicial killings. Things are not done like that in democracy. There is police and rule of law. That is my opinion and you may agree or disagree. What is on ground is pitiful. Hundreds have been killed and properties destroyed. Many homes have been wounded. May the dead RIP! We hope justice will prevail and impunity will not continue. Had Jonathan done the needed last year when three of the sheikh's sons were killed along thirty others, a lasting solution could have been found to end the problem of road blocks and mistrust. There is need for confidence building measures and trust with the Islamic Movement in Nigeria to be put in place by the government to reassure everyone that no one is target simply for their beliefs or what they practice and then look for ways of cooperation and understanding to avoid any future mistrust or tragedy. |

Press TV has interviewed Ibrahim Musa, spokesman of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), to discuss Nigeria’s brutal crackdown against Shia Muslims and the fate of the country’s cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky. The following is a rough transcription of the interview. Press TV: Mr. Musa welcome to the program. First of all, bring us up to speed on the latest from the number of casualties to those who have been arrested and, most importantly, the whereabouts and condition of Sheikh al-Zakzaky. Musa: On the casualty number, we cannot still exactly say the figures because the authorities have denied [that they] have access to the corpses in their hands. But a source in the mortuary of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital has established that there are over 800 dead bodies in the mortuary, among them, unfortunately, about 87 women and apart from that there some corpses with them in the army barracks. And about the whereabouts of our leader Sheikh Ibrahim Yaghoub al-Zakzaky, for now the authorities claim he is with them, but our sources have established that he is severely wounded. So we can only believe that he is safe until they allow us to talk to him, to see him or at least they should allow his first family members to visit him and see him. And what we demand is that they should hand him over to us and give him the proper medical attention he deserves. We do not trust them because they have been telling lies all along …right from Saturday. Press TV: One of the questions regarding the attacks that took place in Zaria with the motives and the reasons why the Nigerian army carried out these attacks first they stated that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria had attempted to assassinate the Nigerian army chief. It has been reported that story has changed over time. What can you tell us in that regard? Musa: Yes, the story that they try to dish out to the public is a black and lie. We have never stopped anybody from passing along the Hussainiyyah road. This month we have been hoisting the flag of the Hussainiyyah so there is no point for them to say that we attempted to assassinate the chief. What we believe is that this is an orchestrated plan by the authorities of the government of [President] Muhammadu Buhari to attack the Shia community, to exterminate it. Possibly, they are fearing the growing numbers and acceptance of the Shia community among other Muslim society. They are not in a position to say the reason why they did that. But if it is just because a road block has been staged, why should innocent people be killed? This is very unfortunate. But they are in a difficult position to answer this question because this cannot be accepted by any peace-loving citizens of Nigeria. Press TV: Mr. Musa, what has been confirmed of the state of Sheikh Zakzaky and his family right now? Are you surprised that there has been no international condemnation or widespread coverage of what took place in Zaria over t he past two days? Musa: We cannot say there has been no condemnation. At least, there has been condemnation from the Islamic Republic of Iran and there has been condemnation from Association of Foreign Embassies here in Nigeria. But about the coverage, we can also say the coverage is a bit not bad or is fair what to see because we have received coverage from ...foreign media outlets like the BBC, Geo, Deutsche Welle and the rest of them. But from the exact situation or the condition of Sheikh Ibrahim Yaghub al-Zakzaky, we cannot definitely say about his condition now because I said earlier that we have not been given access to him. What we demand is that they let him be given access to us so that at least we can see his condition and access it. Today, the Muslim brothers in Kaduna, Gambia, Bauchi, and Kanu staged peaceful protests. It ended peacefully in Kanu, Gambia and Bauchi, but in Kaduna the police also came and attacked the Muslim brothers. They have shot a lot of people there. Right now, we are collecting people and we will tell the public how many they have killed or wounded. Press TV: We know that this is not the first time that the Nigerian army has targeted the Islamic Movement of Nigeria. If I recall was last year when another attack took place and a number of unarmed followers of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria were killed by the army there. This has led to many believing that the attacks this time were pre-planned with the intention of targeting the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and dealing it a severe blow. Musa: Yes, this is exactly what we believe also that they have already planned and are looking for an alibi so that they hide the truth to possibly do what the last government could not possibly do. Even the [Goodluck] Jonathan government did attempt to exterminate the Shia community, that is why they even attacked that particular procession, but they could not achieve that. So possibly, this government has decided it will finish what Jonathan had started. We believe it is a conspiracy between the Wahhabi, the Israelis and their American surrogates. http://presstv.com/Detail/2015/12/15/441864/Ibrahim-Musa-Nigeria-Shia-Zakzaky-army |
this is when APC was apparently begging for Shiite votes. he needed votes, so you see the respectful handshake and the bending down posture. where was El Rufai when soldiers were attacking this cleric's house, beating him and firing four bullets into him this past Sunday and killing hundreds of his followers extra-judicially? if it was during Jonathan's days, El Rufai would have politicized the incident, milk it, and be 24/7 online to post inciting partisan comments. shame! El Rufai has abandoned his Facebook page since the killings of the Shiites happened in his state. the government spokespersons have not said anything. |
Iran calls for probe into Nigeria Shia killings Tue Dec 15, 2015 6:17PM Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has called for the establishment of a fact-finding committee in Nigeria to investigate the recent military crackdown on Shia Muslim community in the African country. “Under the present circumstances, we expect the Nigerian government to sympathize with all victims and prevent the persistence of any kind of unrest by issuing firm instructions,” Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday. Local media said on December 12 that more than a dozen people were killed after clashes erupted between the Nigerian army and Shia Muslims in the northern city of Zaria, Kaduna State. The military accused the Shias of attempting to assassinate Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the chief of the Nigerian army staff. Nigerian soldiers opened fire on the people attending a religious ceremony at Hussainiyyah Baqeeyatullah, a religious center belonging to the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN). Local sources say hundreds of people trying to protect the cleric were killed. Rouhani further warned of plots to cause discord among Muslim countries and urged Muslim nations to remain united and vigilant against schemes. “We should not let minor differences grow into deep-seated conflicts and differences,” Rouhani said, adding that the Muslim world currently needs to settle issues peacefully. He also expressed Iran’s readiness to dispatch medical teams to Nigeria to treat those injured in the recent wave of violence. Buhari, for his part, said he would fulfill his responsibility to ensure safety of the Nigerian Muslims and meticulously probe the recent deadly incidents. Nigeria attacks pre-planned plot: Larijani Speaker of Iran’s parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that the recent bloody attacks against Shia Muslims in Nigeria were a pre-planned plot in the best interests of the Israeli regime. In a letter to Nigeria’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Dogara Yakubu, Larijani added that the painful incident was aimed at causing discord among Muslim sects. He condemned the attacks and called for the immediate release of Zakzaky. http://presstv.com/Detail/2015/12/15/441875/Iran-Nigeria-Rouhani-Buhari-Larijani-Yakubu |

Sadr called on Iraqis to go out on “mass” demonstrations on Friday in Najaf, Karbala and all the provinces to protest against the incident, as well as raising picture of al- Zakzaky detainee and his assistant, Sheikh Muhammad Turi who was killed by the Nigerian authorities. http://www.thewhistleng.com/al-sadr-says-buhari-is-isis-urges-iraqis-to-protest-against-zaria-carnage/ |
this apparently sounds like a statement of guilt and regret. who are they protecting the cleric and his wife from? after going on a killing spree, the cleric is being "protected". what happened to the allegation that the army chief encountered "assassination"? |
Saudi Arabia forms Muslim 'anti-terrorism' coalition Alliance includes 34 mainly Muslim states but excludes regional rival (Shia) Iran and its (Shia) allies Iraq and Syria. 15 Dec 2015 06:12 GMT | Saudi Arabia, War & Conflict, ISIL, Middle East Saudi Arabia has formed a coalition of 34 mainly Muslim countries - including powers such as Egypt and Turkey - to coordinate a fight against "terrorist organisations". The alliance was announced by the country's defence minister and deputy crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, on Tuesday. Arab countries such as Qatar and the UAE will join the coalition, as well Middle Eastern, Asian, and African states, such as Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Nigeria. Saudi Arabia's regional rival Iran and its allies Syria and Iraq, were excluded from the alliance despite the states sharing a common enemy in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group. Bin Salman said the states would work together to target "any terrorist organisation, not just ISIL" in countries including Iraq, Syria. Libya, Egypt, and Afghanistan. Military operations would work in accordance with local laws and in cooperation with the international community, he added. In an earlier press statement issued by the Saudi Press Agency, officials said the group would be led by Saudi Arabia and the country would host a "joint operations centre to coordinate" efforts. ISIL threat Most of the countries in the coalition are currently involved in military operations against ISIL or have been targeted by the group. Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies have carried out air strikes against the fighters in Syria and were targeted by the group in Yemen, where they are involved in a separate war against Iran-backed Houthi rebels. In August, an ISIL suicide bomber killed 15 people, mainly special forces soldiers, at a mosque in Asir province bordering Yemen. ISIL has also targeted Saudi Arabia's Shia minority, killing dozens in bomb attacks targeting mosques. Saudi authorities have carried out raids detaining hundreds of suspected ISIL members and sympathisers in response. PRESS RELEASE - Nigeria: Concerns mount over Islamic Movement leader "shot" in army killing spree Monday, 14 December 2015 15:00 Press Releases IHRC has received credible but unconfirmed reports that Nigerian troops have shot and wounded the leader of Nigeria's Islamic Movement in an ongoing assault against the group and its leadership. Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky was reportedly shot in the arm and his wife shot in the stomach when troops attacked their private residence yesterday. ÂÂÂ It is believed that they have been taken to a nearby military barracks along with some of their children. The shootings are reported to have taken place yesterday and the wounded family members were apparently left in a smouldering and bombed out building overnight before being removed. This is a deeply disturbing development in view of recent military atrocities committed against the group. A IHRC report into the massacre of Islamic Movement supporters taking part in an Al-Quds Day procession in July 2014 found that protestors who had been taken away by the army alive or well later showed up dead or badly injured. Eyewitness reports and photographs show piles of bodies lying on the floor outside the Sheikh's home, believed to be of supporters and followers who tried to prevent soldiers from attacking the house in the northern city of Zaria. Two tanks are said to have taken part in the military operation. The assault on the Islamic Movement began on Saturday morning when soldiers opened fire at mourners attending a funeral in Zaria at Hussainiyyah Baqiyatullah. The funeral was for Muslims killed the day before in violence attributed to Boko Haram, but which many in the area claim has connections with elements of the military. Reports say approximately 30 people died in that incident. Following that shooting spree the armed forces then fanned out to other locations associated with the Islamic Movement including the Sheikh's home. So far it is estimated that around 1000 civilians have been killed by the army in the space of just 48 hours. IHRC demands to know the exact whereabouts of the Sheikh and his family members, their condition, and what if any measures the Nigerian army is taking to ensure they are provided with medical attention. We hold the Nigerian government responsible for the well-being of the Sheikh and his family. We believe there is no truth to official Nigerian claims that the Islamic Movement had reportedly fired on and stopped the convoy of the Nigeriaís Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai moving through the area. This appears to be an attempt to spin what is essentially an ongoing attempt to snuff out Zakzaky and his movement. Last year three sons of the Sheikh were targeted and killed by armed forces during and after an Al-Quds Day march in Zaria. According to eyewitnesses who have spoken with IHRC, the army attacks are too well organised and planned to be a response to a threat to the general. Photographs from the scene show soldiers kneeling down in a field and firing at protestors in a way that suggests they were not under attack in any way. The Islamic Movement has mass support across Nigeria and is renowned as a peaceful group that has never been implicated in any violence. It is strongly opposed to Boko Haram. Notes to editors: The attached photos show dead bodies lying in the vicinity of Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky's home and are disturbing. For the umpteenth time, it was NOT a CLASH. If it was, then what is the casualty figures in both sides? Only one side sustained injuries and death. Over a thousand people massacred simply for following a particular creed. Where is the freedom of religion? Freedom of association? Killing over a thousand in cold blood, and wiping out the Zakzaky family is crime against humanity. The perpetrators should face justice. Had justice being served to the army killers of zakzakys three sons, this tragedy wouldn't have happened. This is complete lawlessness. Are we in military rule? How can soldiers arrest a cleric? Why burn down his house and mosque (hussainiyyah)? This amounts to terrorism. Is being of the Shia creed a crime against the state? This is secular Nigeria and not Wahhabi Saudi Arabia where Shiites are persecuted. This cannot take place in Nigeria. |
ibrah04:But they said it is because they were blocking roads. Wetin be Intel imagination again? No be assaaaaination again? :p Reports say over a thousand got massacred in Zaria. And now this report wants to wash. |

The Claim by the Nigerian Army is a blatant lie Saturday, 12 December 2015 16:35 The flimsy excuse given by the Nigerian Army, as reported by some Media outlets, that a Commandant or Chief of Army Staff (COAS) narrowly escaped assasination as a result of attack from Muslim brothers and Sisters of the Islamic Movement is a blatant lie. The attack on the defenseless people by the Nigerian Soldiers is unprovoked. The Claim by the Army raises series of questions in the mind of right thinking people. The armless Muslims gathered for ceremony at Husainiyyah, as usual to change the flag on the dome of Husainiyyah, heralding the beginning of the month of R/Auwal- the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him and his household. Any excuse given by the military as reason for besieging Husaniyyah and firing for hours, leading the death of yet to be specified number of people, is considered a Lie of the Decade. In the same vein, any report of CLASH between brothers and Nigerian soliders or ATTACK on the convoy of COAS , as given by some media, is also untrue as nothing like a clash or attack but a crackdown on a defenceless people by blood thirsty soldiers. Soldiers Attack at Husainiyyah: Seven killed Saturday, 12 December 2015 20:19 Following the brutal attack by the Nigerian Soldiers on Husainiyyah Baqiyyatullah Zaria on Saturday the 12th of Dec 2015 the number of people killed has risen to seven (7) while 11 are seriously injured at various degree. The figure of the dead represents those in the possession of the Movement as the fate of those taken away by the Soldiers after they were shot is not known. As at the time of this report, there is no acces to the Husainiyyah as all roads leading to it have been blocked by Nigerian soldiers; they also besieged the building while many brothers and sisters were locked inside. In a move to cover up its attrocities, the Military, through its spokeman, said the convoy of Lt Gen Yusuf Burutai the Chief of Army Staff was attacked by the Muslims brothers and Sisters using arms. While in reality, the armless Muslims have gathered at Husainiyyah Baqiyatllah, Zaria for flag changing ceremony for the fall of the month of Rabiul Auwal- the birth month of the holy Prophet(SAWA). In almost 37 years of its activities, the islamic Movement in Nigeria has never attack anybody- be it soldiers, police, individual or group. http://www.islamicmovement.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2229:soldiers-attack-at-husainiyyah-seven-killed&catid=41:frontpage |
Press Release: Soldiers attacked Shi’ites in Zaria, scores killed Saturday, 12 December 2015 21:04 At noon today, armed soldiers were seen in the precincts of Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria, where members of the Islamic Movement were to carry out the hoisting of flag to usher in the new month of Maulud, the birth of the Holy Prophet of Islam. Similar occasion was previously carried out on the same spot with free traffic flow under the supervision of the Movement’s traffic warders. When some brothers met the soldiers to understand their mission of the soldiers was, they took position and opened fire indiscriminately, killed many and took away seven the casualty to an unknown location. Based on the foregoing, we believe that the military had pre-planned this and had acted according to their mischievous script. They came with their cameramen, videotaping the whole incidence while it lasted. We are however surprised that, spokesman of the military Colonel Kuka Sheka Shamelessly came out in the media and issued a press statement to say, that it was an assassination attempt on the Chief of Army Staff on the order of the Movement’s leader. Why was it that there were no casualty on the side of the military, if it were to be an assassination attempt by Kuka Sheka? What happened was never a clash, but a continuation of act of terrorism by the Nigerian military on the Movement, as was the case in the past. We are not surprised by this action, a s there were reports spread by the same military the night before that the Shi’ites were to avenge their dead by hired thugs on Friday in Gabari, a village in Zaria. Thesame military also spread rumour that, the Shi’ites had killed soldiers, all in attempt to justify today’s dastardly act. Kuka Sheka should know that, once bitten twice shy. The 2014 massacre of 34 members of the Islamic Movement, including 3 of Sheikh Zakzaky’s children by the military; the attempt on Sheikh Zakzaky’s convoy by the same military are still on our minds. No governments can flourish successfully with disoriented military, full of trigger-itchy personnel and security operatives trained by CIA and Mossad. Until the present government fish out this cabal in the military and bring the culprits to book, we will made to believe the government is condoning, violence and terrorism on innocent citizens. how can five landlocked state form a country? the main agitators for Biafra are not after "emancipating" the Igbos from Nigeria but are after enslaving the minorities of the Niger Delta. The agitators for Biafra know that their dream will not be possible or sustainable with five landlocked states. they need an access to seaport and the resources of the Niger Delta to form a sustainable country. In other words, the Igbos for Biafra dream of replicating another Nigeria or a smaller version (without the north and south west) where the Igbos will dominate. and even if that goes on to happen, what guarantees are there that this state will remain united and further divisions will not happen? The ijaws and other minorities in the Niger Delta will surely kick against Igbo domination and will want their independence too. then, where will you place Edo, akwa ibom and Cross River? we are talking here of an unsustainable Biafra dividing into another four countries at least. in that case, and after the minorities who will be more in number than the Igbos overwhelm the igbos, it will be igbos themselves who will again agitate for Nigeria to return!!! a biafra will be a recipe for confusion, further divisions, bloodshed and a burden for west africa and the world. no body wants to welcome refugees, especially from a heavily populated country. therefore no one wants to touch the Pandora box. in the north, there is also question of minorities. there is a christian minority. will they want to live outside a unified Nigeria? can biafra give them solutions? or will further division take place? talking about referendum, that is not feasible in Nigeria at all. Igbos are scattered all over the country with investments and businesses across the country. will only Igbos take part in a referendum? and what of those igbos outside the five landlocked and impoverished states? the Igbos are the most scattered ethnic group in Nigeria, yet some idle people want separation. if you truly want separation, the first thing to do is to develop your five states. do not place any eye on the South South or the oil of the Niger Delta. even if your dream come to happen, that unity with the South South will not last. after you develop your state, then ask your brothers scattered all over the country to return. they will not. why? because five landlocked states cannot sustain themselves. if your five states are an economic model and paradise on earth, it will be the other way round. people from all around Nigeria and even the world will be rushing to your states; not Igbos rushing to other states. Dubai is still part of the UAE yet it attracts investments from the world over. how many multinational companies and foreign ovestors are found in the south east? if those neo-Biafran agitators are sincere about their call for independence, then it is very sorry for them. this is a call without foresight. and if they are not sincere, and they are simply doing it because a northerner they dont like is the president of the country, then they are going about the wrong way. you had your chance to vote and you voted in the wrong direction-ethnicity and religion. Nigeria voted to move away from ethnicity and religious barriers. what are you therefore complaining about? if you want the attention of the president, you dont ask for it using threat of division and war. the catastrophic results of war will be unbearable even for the agitators. the solution, and that is the bitter pill Igbos have to swallow, is for, at least, there to be political unity with the north. if the yorubas can do it, then why cant the igbos? get over bitterness and division and threats. there should be diversity in opinions and choices in the south east. do not place your eggs in one political party or in the basket of ethnicism and religionism and regionalism. even europe that was divided into small nation states has united to form a powerful european union. there is power in unity. today Nigeria is a strong country and seen as such. who will consider biafra or give it relevance that Nigeria enjoys today? and to become independent, you need international support. it is not enough for you to clamor for independence. you need the UN; and the UN has powerful countries which must agree you deserve independence and they are ready to work with you if you become independent. as much as foreign interference in any country's affairs is repugnant, if other countries dont fly your flag in their capital, your passport will not be recognized. |
it is very sad to lose a child. however, karma is a b*tch. what did Jonathan do when 3 sons of Sheikh Zakzaky were killed in cold blood in Kaduna? or was Jonathan complicit in the Zionist plot to clamp down on Zakzaky's Islamic movement and his followers for no reason than exercising their right to freedom of expression? was the perpetrator Colonel S. Okwu brought to justice or is he still roaming free? killing innocent people is never justified simply because those innocent people have no means to defend themselves, get justice or fight back. when you offend and oppress the innocent because he has no means or you are stronger and you think he is weak, then you are calling for a fight with God Himself. God will fight that battle. i feel sorry for the poor boy though. |
