Typically, African airports have these very basic iron fabrication as passengers seats. No USB plugin for charging phones or any basic comfort for passengers.

Rocksvibes234:
Airpeace Is Ready To Deploy Planes To Anambra Airport- Chief Allen Onyema

By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airpeace Nigeria Limited, Chief Allen Onyema says at ninety five percent completion stage, Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri is ready to commence commercial activities.

Chief Onyema who gave the disclosure upon his landing at the airport for the third time, described the airport as a gateway into the South East Region.

His landing concided with Governor Willie Obaino's weekly inspection visit to the airport in company of members of Anambra State Organized Labour.

The Airpeace boss who disabused people's mind from thinking and seeing it as a white elephant project, stressed that it received the fastest approval by the federal government of Nigeria.

He applauded the federal government for corperating with Anambra State, described the project as befitting as the federal government is pushing commercial activities into the South East and added that Anambra airport is better than most airports in the Country.

According to Chief Onyema, every facility in aviation is already within the airport, noted that it is a legacy project that nobody can ever doubt.

He called on people who have businesses outside the state to come and invest, as the facility has the capacity to provide millions of jobs in the areas of travel agencies, hotels, resorts among other business opportunities as, stressing that the airport is viable for such businesses.

Among those who were part of the visit was the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr. Paschal Agbodike.
Glad they chose to install high-quality modern airport seats like those in Frankfurt International airport, Germany!

This is a serious upgrade to an African airport! Many African countries' international airports don't have these modern seats!

Kudos to Gov. Obiano, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor and all the people working tirelessly to ensure only the best quality is good enough for this airport. I love how they totally rejected mediocrity that typically happens in southeast projects and went for the best global high-quality materials and furnishing.

Saw the carousel being installed. The Governor said the three fire-trucks have been paid for and are being built to specification, so should arrive the country soon. He said three escalators and three lifts are to be installed as well. The airport has been linked up to the recently launched power substation to guarantee electricity supply to the airport. He also reiterated that the project was done without the state gov't borrowing a kobo, while not shirking its other financial obligations like salary payments, etc. He rounded up by saying anyone asking silly question like 'why he landed in the brand new airport'....if it's vexing them that much they can go and build their own!

All in all, a informative update!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl2kZqJfDjc
I just LOVE how he said, those asking why I should land in Anambra airport should build their own and land on it. As if it's that easy grin cheesy

Clearly referring to some disgruntled politicians that hoped and prayed the airport would not be completed so that they will make it an election issue. Unfortunately for them, it was completed by a warrior Akpokue dike GLOBAL!! Lol.... grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

There is serious gnashing of teeth about this feat right now. lol.. grin grin grin grin grin grin

No wonder they crawl out here every night to write some silly mischief how Chicago O'hare airport is a bigger airport than Anambra. Forgetting to compare Chicago O'hare to even Abuja International which is the flagship of the nation. grin grin grin grin

What is so hard about commending one who has performed excellently in office?

With carousel and furniture in place, the airport would soon open for commercial flights. Even if its only daytime flights for now, until all the equipment are installed.

That Obiano met the states IGR at a miserly 10 billion naira.....eventually growing it to 26 billion naira in 2019, says more about the woeful performance of the Obi administration than anything else!

Like i said before, don't look at the percentage increase in isolation. You have to consider the state we're talking about here: Anambra....one of the leaders in commerce and industry in the country, which boasts a thriving real-estate sector as well.

You know there's a problem when the states IGR returns struggle to come close to or match those of similar states like Ogun, Oyo and Kano! Anambra should be in the top 5 if we're to be honest!

It's clear there's a lot of corruption and ineptitude going on in the ministry of parastatal responsible for IGR generation and collection in the state, and the Obiano gov't is either incapable or unwilling to stem the tide!
There is a reason why some people HATE the idea of the computerization of the tax register and using banks & POS system to pay directly into the state's revenue account. Cutting out these illegal middlemen & touts has not been an easy task. The more you arrest the touts, the more their godfathers recruit more touts to illegally collect "revenue" from the people on behalf of the government.

Truth be said, Obiano did so well to fight the machiavellian overlords and godfathers that have been collecting and pocketing the state's IGR under the guise of being market union leaders or motor park union leaders for many decades. many of them operate in partnership with corrupt commissioners and highly placed civil servants to undercut and frustrate the state government on smooth collection and remittance of collected taxes from these hoodlums.

Anambra is a very tough state because these god-father touts collecting these dues meant to be paid into the state coffers simply pocket the money and use the remaining to hire thugs that will chase away and maim any real state government tax agent coming into the markets or parks.

We don't want to bury our children in future like Jos, Southern Kaduna and other northern States. We want Umahi and Uzodimma to tell Igbos that what we are hearing is not true. Are our governors so stupid that they can't understand it is jihad not herders? Thousands are dying in the north and you want to dig graves for Igbos. God will shame all evil people in Igbo land. What has the Fulani done with the vast land in the north that they want the small piece in Igbo land? Igbos will hold Umahi and Uzodimma accountable if Fulanis kill again in Igboland. Umahi as matter of urgency must return the blood money he collected from buhari for ranching. We don't want ranching or Fulanis in Igbo land. We have learnt from the north. It will not happen to us.
Keep making noise on social media instead of quietly arming your people to resist the Fulani invasion.
If the people go there at night and clear all the invaders trooping in to their forests in the name of Ruga ranching will there be any so-called future burials? Who is Umahi to give away anyone's village lands to foreign Jihadists from the Sahel in the guise of "ranching"?

You must learn to do the needful than cry on social media all the time.

Exactly their strategy.

Convince Igbos not to see federal government evil plots, but to waste their energy fighting eachother

Their plan is actually for APC to take over the state using army & police to protect their touts while they rig elections, and Supreme Court will validate the "election". Then the APC stooge imposed will use ALL Anambra resources to fund their 2023 northern president.

Has the luggage carousel been installed yet? What of the lifts, escalators and the Avio-bridges? How's the car park coming along?
Truly, all they need now is FURNITURE (i.e: Passenger chairs, airlines check-in desks & security screening check gates) to begin functioning at least with local daytime flights to & from Lagos and Abuja. People can walk on the tarmac to board the plane as it is done in Asaba, PH, Enugu or Owerri airports. Until the avio bridges are installed and put to use.

The carousel, avio bridges, escalators Control tower gadgets, and ILS/ runway approach lighting can continue to be installed while the airport is operational for daytime local flights. The idea that everything needed for international flights must be installed now before they even begin local flights will be ludicrous. No airport is ever "completed" as improvement/expansion/upgrading projects are continuous events in airports that are even 100 years old.

Till date, even JFK intl. airport or Los Angeles Intl. airport still have some type of ongoing upgrade work while the airports are operating.

why did you say they may not have time for painting, I dont painting will take up to one week if they are serious.
Well, the painting now could ruin the marble floors with paint droppings. Unless great care is taken to cover the tiles while painting the roof. All in all, it will take meticulous effort to do it properly and I don't think they will have time for it now. Moreover, it isn't as easy as just taking a ladder and climb to the roof to spray paint on it. It will take a lot of careful planning to do it well.

I think they will obscure all the iron pillars. Except for the roof.

Yes, I agree that the color of the iron in the roof could have been white to enhance natural illumination But, we'll wait and see if they have the time to paint the roof white before opening. Thankfully, they used white for the walls which go a long way with illumination and creating the right ambiance.
Painting the roof white would be great for extra use of natural lighting and the overall appeal of the terminal, but I don't think they will have time for it.

Current terminal updates.....only furniture is remaining to become functional.
Excellent development! We are getting there.

Does anyone know if they have finished marking the car park and the internal roads? I think simple things like properly marking the car park and writing the number of each parking space on it for easy identification. As well as properly marking the road into the airport and behind the terminal building are little things that spell quality in a project.

Not only Nnewi street, my own street in Ogboji had not just functional street lights but airport sef. Since i was a kid. grin grin

Claiming any falsehood is allowed. The problem is when you ask them to send you a picture of the functional street light and they suddenly cant remember the street or even brazenly send Obiano's street light and try to argue it was there and fully functioning since 1970 grin grin grin grin

Even some of the private village roads tarred in Ichi town and Nnewi in the early 1990s had no functioning street light. Government roads tarred before 2015 in Anambra had no functional street lights. I can send prior to 2015 nairaland pages of Anambra roads here to see it yourself if you pretend to have forgotten.

Obiano isn't perfect. But i think we should learn to give credit to whom it us due when they perform well. Some people have no respect at all for the facts. Soon some of us will blatantly claim there were "functional" airports in Anambra before Obiano built one. They will claim that Oba airport was "functional" but as usual will be unable to exactly point out one plane that landed there.

Again, I totally support Mystery shopper, Globemoney, and others keeping you rabid goons in check. I don't know why you cannot face your own state and send them pictures of Nelson Mandela ICC in South Africa or ICC in Hong Kong so that they can start something. grin grin grin It is Anambra that has since started and is about to complete its own ICC that you are worried about?

I remember when some of you derided the Anambra Intl. airport as something that will be abandoned and you praised the Ebonyi airport as the state of the art airport that would soon be completed and all that blah blah blah. Today, none of you have posted nor even asked what happened to Ebonyi airport. cheesy

Your new tactic is to send pictures of Heathrow, JFK or Los Angeles Intl airport as what Anambra should have built. Meanwhile your own Abuja Intl. airport is smaller, has less capacity and has only one runway than the small Raleigh-Durham International airport in this small city of 300 thousand people. Can you at least send the pictures of those airports to Buhari and tell him that Abuja airport needs to be upgraded to at least Raleigh Intl. airport standard? If you think i'm lying about Raleigh airport, see the pics below or just google it!

You should all be ashamed of yourselves for antagonizing governors like Willie Obiano working hard to develop his state and Nigeria by extension, than those governors doing nothing and making Africa the butt of all vicious jokes in the entire world due to its very poor level of development.

I have been following developments. So far so good. I wanted to post the ABS video of the ICC and Stadium inspection yesterday, but someone had already beat me to it grin

I usually point out anything I feel we should be aware of, or anything likely to impact on overall quality if it's neglected. I am happy and grateful that you have kept that evil owl in check. Coming here to say he has been to Hong Kong to observe "International Conference Centers" when he has not crossed the boundary of his village. grin Just kidding lol.... But seriously, nobody needs his validation at all.

Overall, Obiano is doing a fantastic job! I am happy that he is focused on high-quality delivery of his signature projects rather than the typical attitude of Third world governments that always build inferior, shoddy, ugly structures just to mark it that they have "built" this or that. Obiano's insistence on high quality may indeed be a turning point for Anambra and indeed the entire region if Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo as the next governor maintains an eagle eye on all projects to ensure very high quality consistently.

naijaking1:
Very true.
That's why they stopped history from being taught in schools like before. Unfortunately, we still have confused southerners acting without the benefit of history.
The worst part is that southerners still think that Fulani's strategy is merely to graze and sell cows. Not knowing that all the indigenous peoples they have met since they left the foothills of Futajalon have been given the same fate.

First, they use voodoo to cast a spell on the cow they will sell to you. Once you slaughter and eat that cow, you are hooked on their game. Next, they will cause insecurity to prevent your community from farming, and thus create mass poverty & hunger in the place, then they take your land forcefully, then they assassinate your kings or turn the community against themselves. Finally, they will make themselves rulers and Emir of your community. Then they change the name of your community into a Fulani name.

The same classical pattern they have used for more than 100 years now in one community after another.

I hope the commissioner of works will also keep an eye on those working outside the airport. The staircase and their general design for the front porch is not up to expectation. Although I concede that they are still working on the place. I hope they use non-slip tiles on the stairs to give a good decent finish and cover the drains.
