Ebonyi State Governor, seeking help from Buhari through the ministry of aviation to buy, complete and commission Ebonyi airport at 10bn.

"And this is the same project some people use to insult Obiano that he's building warehouse and poultry farm compared to the best international standard umahi is building.
Comparing Ebonyi and Anambra.
Now Anambra Airport is almost completed and to start receiving commercial aircraft by November
Lol....the real white elephant project bites the dust. It's very sad though.

I wish Umahi managed well to decrease the proportion of the airport. He was building the largest terminal building in Nigeria to handle 5 million passengers a year? For who to use? That is where he got it all wrong. He could have made the project a modest municipal airport to serve the capital city and surrounding towns.

Part of the reason Obiano succeeded was because he focussed on the right equipment and size of the terminal building. Of course in the future, a second terminal building could be built close to the current one. But the genius was to design a manageable first terminal that could be quickly completed and functional.

People, please STOP being naive!!!

Nobody should be in a hurry to naively conclude that this was done by people other than covert elements of the Nigerian security forces. The days are evil and people in high places are plotting big to get whatever excuse they want to do whatever they have planned.

The last time it was Imo state, as November 6th approaches, they have shifted to Anambra state and suddenly changed the Commissioner of Police to someone that will do the job. Please STOP being naive and smell the coffee!

I disagree with your last point. CAT3 has auto land, and pilots may feel intimidated by it.
Nwokem,

Since you have data to argue pointlessly, why don't you just use it to research answers to your question?

Auto landing, a function of autopilot is a feature in ALL modern planes to utilize ILS Categories 2 or 3 in an airport to safely land the plane in the touchdown zone of the runway without any input from the pilot. The visual orientation of the correct glide path by the pilot using the PAPI lights is what ILS CAT2 OR 3 will automatically orient the plane computers in the correct glide path to the touchdown zone without any input from the pilot in auto landing procedures.

In fact most pilots love to use the auto landing feature of the ILS CAT 2 OR CAT 3 airports in good, daylight weather because it helps them to test the calibration of the system and be sure it guides the plane computers to the safe touchdown zone of the runway. Incase they have to use auto landing feature of their plane in that airport in very bad weather with poor visibility.

Just google how ILS CATEGORIES 2 and 3 work and what are PAPI lights and get the information yourself on how the ILS systems work for both visual landing by the pilot or auto landing by plane computers using the ILS guidance .

These videos will answer your questions in practical terms if you take the time to fully watch them. They deal with the various aspects of your question i.e. ILS systems, landing light, PAPI light for visual assistance to pilots to estimate their approach height, and the principle of auto-landing by airplanes.

The pilot in the first video did a good job explaining how ILS systems guide a pilot to the runway.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by OreMI22:
Faithful007:
Is there such a thing as CAT2 light standalone? Or do you mean CAT2 ILS?
Yes, there are CAT 2 runway lighting systems and CAT 2 ILS.

I believe the video was posted in this thread a while back in case you prefer a video demo than just researching it. Obiano was right when he said the CAT 2 runway lights had runway Center lights in addition to the edge lights. CAT 1 is just the runway edge lights like we have in Enugu.

The approach lights are part of the ILS system. They are designed to enable the pilot to decide whether to land the plane or not at a certain altitude (The Decision Height). The Cat II systems enable the pilot to make that decision at a much lower altitude than the CAT 1 system. Although Lagos and Abuja airports operate CAT 2 systems, there are CAT 3 systems operated by prime international airports in London, Dubai or New York. The truth is that CAT 3 has more lights installed, but pilots have said it really doesn't provide real advantages over CAT 2. The runway just looks more beautiful because even the touchdown zone has lights in the CAT 3 system.

We desperately need competent hands with the relevant experience and capacity to solve the formidable challenges of developing Africa. Not the same type of corrupt charlatans and polithiefians who are only interested in obscene looting of the public treasury and condemning Africa to lack of development and perpetual poverty.

All facilities required to be completed for safe and comfortable use of the airport by the public have now been completed.

Those asking where booths can be built for immigration & customs when international travel begins can see there is ample space in the arrival section for immigration and customs tables.

Truly magnificent!!!

Truly modern beautiful International airport with best global practices painstakingly incoporated!

All that is required now is to get truly professional cleaners to scrub the floor and polish it. Of course, they will do that after major construction is over, but they must not fail to do that before official commissioning and opening of the facility for public use.

Little details like that, such as a very clean and polished floor as seen in airports abroad or international hotels in Nigeria will make people appreciate the value of the tiles on the floor and all the work invested in this project.

I agree with Dr Ezeife when he said that he liked Obiano's style of doing international quality work than doing a lot of low-quality crap. I still marvel that a Nigerian governor, particularly a southeast governor would have the audacity to build something that will compete with similar facilities abroad! There is hope for Nigeria if we continue this trend of building things to last and paying attention to QUALITY and detail in public projects.

As built right now, no provision has been made for immigrations. They can do any modifications tomorrow, it is even better. Once a post goes contrary to you guys position, you will start venting. Oga you are not more enthusiastic about the airport than I am. I have just told you the facts. You mustn't accept it, but don't come and start venting about malice.
Oga m, abeg no vex. I didn't mean it the way you are saying it. I like that you are enthusiastic and I can vouch for you based on your previous posts. I just thought booths were too trivial to be worried about where they would finally place them when they start receiving international passengers.

They had things that were the real big deals and they somehow achieved them. Things like affording to install Cat 2 runway lights and ILS Cat 2 systems, if they could really afford modern crash tender trucks and build separate firehouses for them. As required to meet the requirement of a Cat 9 international airport firestation. To bring electricity all the way from Awka to Umueri for the airport to have access to electricity, build a total independent waterworks system for the airport, and build a dual carriage road leading to the airport etc. These things cost billions of naira to achieve. So when we talk about making space for an immigration table with a laptop as a serious issue I wonder why we didn't fear the big issues but worried about simple booths which they can place in any corner within the already completed terminal building.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by OreMI22:
gordonbarrett:
It's not an international terminal building. The airport only has approval for international cargo and domestic passengers. Terminal 2 will be built, which will be an international terminal and international passengers license sought.
Some of us typing here need to travel around to see that this airport is beyond international by every standard. Even the electronic full-body scanner isn't available in some "international" airports as we speak. They use a lady with a metal detector stick to try and search people. No full-body scan is available.

if all the equipment and costly crash tender fire truck (~$500K - $1 million dollars apiece) can be acquired, do you think it's building an immigration booth next to the airline check-in area downstairs that would be too expensive or difficult to do?

In advanced or third-world countries, the immigration booth is just a space where officers can put your passport number into the system to check if they have alerts or warrants for arrest. Then they will stamp your passport as verifying they saw you there on that day. It does not require any separate building or construction in an airport.

Sometimes, I don't know if these things are posted genuinely out of ignorance or out of deliberate malice just to be saying something against this fantastic airport by every international standard.

The only reason i stopped contributing financially to IPOB in USA is their quick desire to punish fellow oppressed Igbos by burning or destroying their businesses at the slightest excuse while ignoring and running away from the real Fulani oppressors.

Its unforgivable when IPOB destroy any Igbo person's livelihood for any reason whatsoever. The suffering they cause these poor families does not even bother them. How do you happily destroy the business of a widow with 6 kids frying akara for a living? Who will feed those kids or how do they pay school fees? The total lack of empathy on these vulnerable people is shocking. If you are a child in such poor families and your hunger and deprivation is worsened by other youths how would you view justice in such society? God and karma will punish my own family if my own money contributes in funding anyone contributing to the misery of the poor families struggling to find their daily bread.

These are the same people that you are supposed to be protecting and defending instead of destroying. The only reason I financially supported them is to defend the rights of these poor oppressed people. To see that IPOB's sole strategy now is to harrass and punish these poor people instead of going after their oppressors made it morally impossible for me to continue contributing to them.

When one sees posts from mksignDemon, you don't know whether to laugh, cry, ignore or rain abuses.

All of a sudden, Obiano has access to magical resources more than France to build any type of massive structure in the world just for wanting it.

I often wonder why not a single airport in Nigeria that has been existing since 1960 is even close to That. Yet MkstDemon will not find it appropriate to recommend the structure to oil producing governors that receive 100 times bigger allocation than Obiano. Or even to the FG to expand and modernize ABUJA airport.

Even the richest oil state AKWA IBOM has a tiny bungalow terminal for more than 10 years now. I don't even want to mention Bayelsa so i won't get in trouble with some of them here.

I’m not sure Airpeace is planning to build an MRO all alone. They need the right partnerships. There’s a lot of technical requirements that cannot just be met . Aero MRO specialises on 737 classics. From what I’ve seen Airpeace is phasing out that model of aircraft from their fleet thus an MRO based on the 737 classic model will be a waste for them. Most likely they’ll start with a facility that can take care of minor maintenance works (A and B checks) and gradually build capacity. Truth is Allen Onyema as a person has big dreams and Many who doubted many of the things he said he’ll do (including me) are beginning to learn how possible it is a achieve ones dream. In 2014 I was boarding an arik aircraft and saw three aircrafts parked at Lagos airport apron with the Airpeace logo. I rubbished them as one of the many airlines that will come and go. Same year fist nation and discovery air came . Today those two airlines are gone while Airpeace is still there. In 2020 even some pilots working at Airpeace openly criticised Allen Onyema with one saying Airpeace has almost all its 737 aircrafts grounded due to one maintenance issue or the other . The pilot said Airpeace wasn’t meant to survive more than 5 years and it is living on borrowed time. A few weeks later the pilots protested over covid-induced pay cuts with many leaving and commenting on how they’ll rather go work for an airline abroad. Today a good number of those pilots are back at Airpeace working. They couldn’t get flying jobs abroad. The new orders that some aviation analysts saw as newspaper orders have began to witness deliveries . Even FG and it’s agencies are beginning to take him seriously. He is the VP of the AON and is aggressively pursuing his dream.
You are right! Airlines don't build MROs alone. They partner with aircraft manufacturing companies that will send supervising engineers and original parts from their manufacturing base. Just like Ethiopian airlines MRO was co-managed with Boeing.

With the increasing Embraer airplanes in its fleet, Air Peace will likely partner with Embraer in setting up its MRO.

The state government could setup an MRO facility in partnership with Ethiopian and Air Peace to service some of the more common planes in the region such as the short haul 737 jets. Air Peace lacks the expertise and capital on its own. However it would be competing with Lagos which has the advantage of both Air and sea connectivity.

Ignoramus always wants to talk like he has facts about his silly conjectures. Like you have been given access into Air Peace's bank account to know if they have the financial ability. How did you know that 737 is more popular than ERJ 145 in West Africa? Ethiopian airline knows the MRO in West Africa directly competes with their MRO which they intend West African airlines to continue using. Besides, why are you advising towards an airport you viciously attacked just because it's in Anambra and not your state?
