Needless to re-emphasize that Enugu airport NEVER had total perimeter fencing! It was finally totally fenced in 2021 as part of the N10 billion naira federal government intervention. In fact, the dispute with Architect J J Emejulu was that the new airport fence encroached on his land. Thus he got a court order to pull it down. THERE WAS NEVER A FENCE AROUND THE PERIMETER OF ENUGU AIRPORT! You always tell white lies as if everyone was born yesterday!

Watch the video and read the link which clearly said the about 2KM Enugu airport fence was erected as part of the Akanu Ibiam International airport ongoing rehabilitation.

How did you figure that the airport was not fully fenced? Even Owerri airport that operates Boeing 737 isn't fully fenced. Enugu airport just got fully fenced this year. Yet it had been receiving Boeing 787 Ethiopian airlines dream liner since 2013.

Again, how many airports receiving Boeing 737s in Nigeria have even landing lights or even runway edge lights? Talkmore of ILS category 1 or 2 system calibrated or not. Many of them don't even have steady water supply talkmore a firestation and functional fire trucks!

Truth is that the completion of this airport shocked so many who hitherto believed it will be abandoned like a typical Nigeria project. I was one of them. I knew it took my state which was an oil producing state about 12 years to build an international standard airport. Yet, my own states airport which is way better equipped than Enugu and Owerri still pales in comparison to what Obiano achieved in this airport within just 2 years. That is why i have been super impressed by it and its potential for the region. I also know that as this airport draws the first set of international airlines to this part of the country, my state's airport will be better able to attract one or two major airlines to use it as it has excellent aviation facilities, functional firestation with fire trucks and a 3.5KM runway too

Thank you for your progressive mindset. It's truly rare among Igbos where it's either in my hometown or state, then let it be absent in the entire Igboland. That JohnBullMySon ....A.K.A ....Mktinsight is the same night owl using that moniker to feign knowledge and thinly disguise his angst against Anambra state. Exactly his tactics in this forum. I am surprised that he didn't post a fake link to deceive people.

Obiano truly performed wonders in this project. I hope the standard he set would inspire Ebonyi to build a 3.5 km or more runway and build a very standard airport.

All in all, it is this region that was highly disadvantaged in siting of federal government aviation facilities in Nigeria that finally corrected the disadvantage via self-help. If we had international standard airports in the region when they closed Enugu airport for runway rehabilitation, the flights would be diverted to a closer airport in the region without the people suffering to commute very long distances from alternative airports.

Anambra - Kano will be an excellent route for Airpeace and the Kano/ Anambra traders. It will also boost the huge trade between the two large commercial centers in Anambra and Kano. Moreso, as Airpeace plans to fly from Kano - Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, Chad etc, the Anambra Kano route will support these new routes.

I am not sure Anambra - Port Harcourt will ever make sense. Unless they plan to acquire very small 20 seater propeller planes like the one below. I am not sure NCAA will approve such tiny planes in Nigerian airspace since they banned Fokker types of planes in Nigeria.

Also, Anambra to Ibadan may not be a viable route because of the proximity of Lagos. However, when Air Peace begins international operation from Anambra airport, it might use the airport as a hub for its China and India-bound flights. Thus, it might make sense to get folks from Ibadan and Port Harcourt into a hub to join the triple 7 to China. Else, i don't see how they can profitably operate Anambra-Port Harcourt or Ibadan. Even if the flights are only weekly. Except they do so by acquiring these 12 - 20 seater mini-planes, which the NCAA will likely decline to approve to fly commercially in Nigeria.

Based on the category of aircraft approved for commercial operations in Nigeria, it will be very difficult to use ERJ 145 or Q-Dash 8 to profitably operate an Anambra - Port Harcourt or Ibadan route. Yes, Anambra - Kano route is likely to be successful due to the already existing huge trade between the two commercial centers. Thus, huge populations of traders commute very long distances either by road or via Abuja stopover. Thus, a direct flight between Anambra - Kano will be a huge relief for the businessmen on that route.

Although this might be difficult for now, if Airpeace can go into a codeshare partnership with some international airlines landing in Lagos and Abuja it will be wonderful. If most east-bound passengers landing in Lagos and Abuja can have a seamless 1-2 hour wait time at the airport and then continue to their final destination in an air peace plane, that will truly be helpful to many diasporans. If the international airlines refuse a codeshare with air peace for their Lagos and Abuja operations, air peace can time their own Lagos or Abuja departure flights to the east for about 3 hours post-arrival of the international airlines they are targeting, and make it possible to buy over the counter tickets.

As a diasporan, returning to Nigeria is most herculean when connecting from Lagos or Abuja airports to the East, which is the last leg of the journey. Ethiopian airlines helped to reduce this stress for returning families. However, with everything happening in Ethiopia now, I don't feel confident flying my entire family via Addis Ababa for now.

Just wanna go back to this post for a minute, as there's been something i've been meaning to ask!

Can anyone in the know explain why the authorisation letter for commencement of commercial flights at the new airport was qualified with the proviso that only CATEGORY-B aircrafts are allowed to land at the airport? Which type of aircraft are category-B, and why did they only allow for daytime flights when the airport is equipped for both day and night operations?

I ask because i can't see what the airport is lacking to warrant such a proviso.

My brother, it is the politics of oppression that Igbos have to live under in Nigeria. They are only approving propeller Bombardier Dash 8/Q Series or small jets as Embraer ERJ145 airplanes to do visual landings at the airport. Both planes have a capacity of about 50 passengers. Even when they know the runway is 3.7KM long and it has functional side and centerline runway lights with a Category 2 ILS system at the airport. In fact, by facilities and runway length, it is safer to land at Anambra international airport than Aminu Kanu International airport. But of course, Kano is in a preferred region of Nigeria than Anambra, so Anambra will have to endure many years of lobbying before it is allowed to use the facilities that have already been installed at the airport.

The good news is that with the facilities already installed, it will be difficult for Nigerian authorities to deny international flights to and from the airport using the same silly excuses like lack of ILS systems, lack of approach landing lights, functional runway lighting for night landing, etc that they cited for Enugu airport. Also, international airlines coming to inspect the airport for the suitability of flying into it will find that all the modern navigational facilities they are used to are already installed at the airport. That is why Anambrarians must continue to thank Willie Obiano for making the difficult decisions to install the expensive safety and navigational facilities at the airport once and for all. Obiano actually behaved like an American who would try to build the best quality facility than a typical Nigerian who would like to "manage" without basic navigational & safety equipment in the name of "saving money".

However, the category of planes allowed at the airport will likely be upgraded once the fire trucks arrive. Hopefully, they have not planned another drama to hold the fire trucks at the Lagos wharf to delay the airport from being upgraded. You know, they can go to any length to achieve their subjugation of the region. In the same way, they quickly withdrew the refinery license of Orient petroleum as soon as the first landing test flight was successful on April 30th, 2021. Nigeria's rulers' methods to hold the southeast in underdevelopment is a book worth studying.

LOL.... Dr Obiora Okonkwo tactically kept silent and refused to congratulate Gov Willie Obiano in October when the airport was commissioned because he was contesting the gubernatorial election. Now he is able to speak the truth and congratulate Gov. Obiano for this uncommon feat of completing the massive airport! Better late than never.

We welcome United Nigeria airlines to the Anambra International Cargo Airport. Funny enough, he is the one that reaps the financial benefit of this project. Not even Obiano who worked so hard and took all the negative criticism by enemies of Ndigbo that did not want such massive facility in Igboland.

There is something called "working on your strong points". If Anambra Airport capitalise on their strong points and maintain the basics, she will edge out Lagos and Abuja.

The same can be said for the stadium. Had it been they made it only football stadium, they would have edged out all the stadiums in not just Nigeria but the entire west Africa. It will become the first choice for football in West Africa because she will be the only stadium designed for just football in the entire West Africa.

Anyways, the did has been done. On the bright side the stadium is small and looks like it will be easily maintained, so it is up to the state Government not to allow such manageable piece to ruin in their care.
But there is still a window to make the football only stadium a reality.

These are simple things that you do to edge out competitors. Working on your strong points and maintaining the basics.

There are two aspects of every stadium in the world;
1. The FIFA Standard Sporting Facilities
2. The sitting capacity

1. The Awka FIFA Standard Sporting Facility
The Awka city stadium has all the mandatory FIFA standard sporting facilities such as the main pitch, the changing room with personal lockup wardrobes, scoreboard, floodlights, public address systems, and sports journalists area. In addition, the Awka city stadium also has the standard 8-man 400 meters track around it for athletic events.

2. The Awka City Stadium sitting capacity
The sitting capacity of the Awka city stadium is currently for about 3,500 spectators. The second phase of the stadium construction around adding of its sitting capacity has already been mentioned. The second phase of the Awka city stadium expansion on adding sitting capacity can continue on the opposite side of the current stand to accommodate 30,000 - 40,000 spectators at the same time. This will definitely involve building a multi-story structure and cost a considerable amount of money.

Therefore, it makes sense the way that this stadium construction was planned in phases. Once the first phase of getting the FIFA standard facilities in place are completed and the stadium opens for use, the construction of 30,000 sitting capacity at the opposite side can continue for many years as the stadium continues to host games and drive sports development in the state.

I have been following the plot by Abubakar Malami to use the office of the AGF and EFCC to drag Obiano through the Nigerian rotten system and keep him in jail as they perpetually "investigate" the spurious allegation that Malami brought against him. After which they will release him after spending years in jail as they will find nothing against him. Of course, Obiano being a fearless warrior will likely return to face them in court. But, i think that is exactly their plan. They know he will be annoyed by being accused of theft and will want to challenge them, which will give them an opportunity to continue abusing the Nigeria federal powers to humiliate him.

Based on that, I am wondering if Obiano should be persuaded to just remain abroad until Buhari's regime is over in May 2023? In that way, it is clear that the present instigator of this allegation and manipulator of the judicial process Malami would not be in the position of manipulating the rule of law? Moreso, the EFCC has so far merely alleged that Obiano "mismanaged" N17 billion Paris fund refund without explicitly stating what was mismanaged and what funds Obiano diverted for his personal gains if any. Everyone knows that Anambra had been rated among the top 4 states in Nigeria for fiscal transparency. So it's a no-brainer to suggest a whopping N17 billion naira was unaccounted for in Anambra state.

I just feel that since this witch-hunt orchestrated by Malami and APC to humiliate Obiano for fighting them politically in Anambra will be largely decided by the same individuals, Obiano should shelve his plans to return to Nigeria for now until these men leave the office or until EFCC brings out their specific charge of "mismanagement" against him. Instead of beating around the bush saying they are "investigating" him for "mismanagement" without stating anything specific. So that they will prevent him from joining his family abroad after his tenure is over by perpetually "investigating".

Real Estate investment in Anambra is not easy... Anambra indigenes are so aware of the gains of real estate. They are thrift spenders, so they prefer to build from start to finish instead of buying finished houses

Why do we always overgeneralize? The same way just a few years ago we were told that Anambra people would not rent a duplex in Awka because they prefer Onitsha-like flats. Or that an Nnewi person would never attend NAUTH to train as a doctor because all Nnewi people prefer trading in motorcycle parts.

The truth is that if such an estate built in PH or even the AMC truly comes onboard, it would be sold out quickly in Anambra. Anambra people build because until very recently, the concept of private housing estates was totally uncommon. Estates were only owned by the government which was characteristically very corrupt and inefficient. So our people preferred to build their own houses from scratch. The disadvantage of that method is that everyone builds without any rules. So in the same street where there are four-storey buildings, there are also bungalows, one-bedroom apartments, duplexes, commercial lockup shops, and even a petrol filling station! Everyman decides what he wants to build in his own plot. The result is a chaotic unliveable city as we have seen in several of our cities. That is EXACTLY what we are poised to change by urging the introduction of global best practices in Anambra cities. Private housing estates are one way of achieving a planned-liveable city because they plan the entire estate and where certain types of buildings, facilities, or markets are allowed within the estate.

If we can manage to get financially stable individuals to build well-planned estates in Anambra, it would totally sell like hot cake. Even if you build it outside Awka. The issue is that our people are very careful not to be duped. So they will not invest their money initially until they have signs that the estate will not be abandoned.

Someone should help us tell Governor Umahi that he's done well, but the decor of the upcoming int'l airport should have neutral coulours and not be as bold as that of the mall and medical university.

I am more impressed with Umahi's finishing touches and attention to detail. The dude understands that a project needs to be sparkling clean on inauguration day. The fact that one installs the highest quality tiles does not matter if they are just full of dust and uncleaned at inauguration.

Just employing someone to wipe the pillars and mop the floor to keep the project dust free is one Umahi attribute that other governors need to imbibe. It makes all the difference!

On his part,the Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Architect Willie Okafor explained that the compact Mall sitting on four thousand fifteen square metres boasts of a ground floor, first floor and the roof top.

According to him,the architectural piece contains swimming pool,leisure and beauty spa,cinema halls,food court,shops among others.
Architect Okafor further said that the plaza is geared towards catapulting Awka into a twenty first century city Ndi Anambra will be proud of.

The Anambra State Housing Development Corporation should also partner with major real-estate developers who have announced their interest in building modern estates in viable locations in Nigeria. For instance, only the Lagos state government had partnered with TAF Homes after the CEO Mustafa Njie made public their desire to expand building modern affordable homes in other Nigerian states and cities apart from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Anambra State Housing Development Corporation and the state investment promotion agency (ANSIPPA) should target these types of experienced real-estate investors to build modern homes for sale to the public within sections of the Awka capital territory.

The incompetent James Eze should have been sacked long ago to focus on his poetry and literature, he's just very useless. I think you got the bolded statement so wrong. The Abubakar Malami sponsored smear campaign against Obiano's record using the dubious EFCC publication is a mere political vendetta against the governor. Everyone knows that the goal here isn't for the EFCC to find the supposed "billions" Anambra had that were stolen by Obiano. They all know Anambra does not have the so-called " hundreds of billions" especially when viewed against the cost of the projects so far achieved in Anambra. After all, they are the same people disbursing VAT and FAAC all these years. They also know how much it cost them to just resurface the 3 kilometers Enugu airport runway, and how much the new Enugu, PH or Kano terminal buildings cost theFG. Not to mention car park, water facilities, ILS systems, runway lights, furnishing of the terminal building, 5.7-kilometer airport access road that were already completed at Anambra Intl. airport, Umueri. So, it is clear that the target here is to tarnish Obiano's sterling achievements and somewhat force him to reconsider the pressure to join APC.

Your insinuation that because James Eze was from Enugu he was not loyal to Anambra state is very distasteful. Everyone knows James served Anambra with distinction and loves the state very much! I know many Anambra people that have zero loyalty or love for Anambra state even here in the USA. There so many Anambra people here that would only see Katsina or Kaduna or Abuja as their first choice destination because they lived there or some crappy logic. They have all sorts of stereotypes about Igboland that you'd seriously doubt if they were Igbo at all if you didn't hear what they were saying in Igbo language. So, please don't attack loyal sons of Igboland working for Anambra's progress. The fact that some of us come from the state does not automatically mean that every Anambra person is loyal to the state or even committed to its progress at all.

He said the Anambra International Airport was "inflated" and "white elephant" project. Yet, the same Abubakar Malami wrote the National Security Adviser to instruct closure of the airport! If it were a white elephant project as he claimed, he should leave the airport and nobody will use it and it will naturally die without forceful closure of the airport through abusing federal powers.

Likewise, we know resurfacing of 3KM Enugu airport runway WITHOUT Centerline and Edge Runway lights cost Nigeria a whopping N10 Billion Naira. The Anambra airport runway is 3.7KM long with 1KM runway safety ends, Category 2 Instrument Lighting system, and Edge & Center runway lights, yet the runway and 300M by 200M tarmac were built with less than N10 Billion naira using an internationally reputable construction company (Craneburg)! Not to mention that the runway was built from the scratch with leveling of hills on the path and the re-direction of two rivers running across the path.

Again, if we estimate how much it costs to build the Enugu international terminal so far (Even if its not completed) and compare it to how much the Anambra Intl. airport terminal with escalators, lifts, scanners, carousels, etc, it is obvious that it's a miracle of financial prudence of what has been achieved so far. Not to mention the car park, the gatehouse, water supply systems with reservoir, main access dual-carriageway leading to the facility with twin bridges, etc.

Again, Abubakar Malami is abusing executive office by illegally using the office of the attorney general of the federation to use respectable federal institutions for political vendetta. In the long run, those who abuse their offices as alpha and omega will understand how democracy works.

Here is a picture of Mallam Umaru Alttine , the first Mayor of Enugu. He was a Fulani man from Sifawa in Sokoto Caliphate.

Mallam Umaru Altine, was elected in 1952 as the first Mayor of Enugu, the heart land and heartbeat of the Igbo Nation. He was in office till 1958. He was elected a Councillor in 1954 and Chairman of the Council in same year. He became Mayor of the Enugu Municipal Council in 1956, when Enugu became a Municipality.

His story is usually held up as "the example of unity we could have achieved" he may have been a ‘token’ experiment in 1954 - 1956 but after leaving the NCNC he was certainly a popular candidate. he was well loved by the populace, without question winning against formidable odds.

He returned to the North during the 1966 crisis and focused on his business away from public life, hence his disappearance from public life never to resurface again.

Yes, Igbos massively voted Mallam Umaru Altine as the Mayor of Enugu because he was a TRUE NIGERIAN!

Yes, he was Fulani, but saw Enugu and Igboland as his home and Igbos as his compatriots. Igbos were right to accept him and enthrone him as their trusted leader. Unlike the Fulani leaders of today in Abuja who see Igbos as a people that must be destroyed and Igboland as foreign territory.

Imagine how revolted Mallam Umaru Altine would feel today that his fellow Fulanis like Abubakar Mallami are plotting and using unknown gunmen to kill people in Igboland for political gains?

The Anambra State Government has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of inelegantly acting the script of those who unsuccessfully canvassed for emergency rule in the State and were thereafter, badly defeated in the November 6 Guber Election.

Media reports were rife yesterday that the outgoing Governor, Willie Obiano has been placed on the Commission's watchlist as his tenure draws to an end on March 17, 2022.

In a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, he reiterated that Governor Obiano, will be ready to answer questions about his service record when invited.

EFCC was one of the greatest legacy of the Obasanjo administration. Today, it is used as a political vendetta tool to smear any perceived enemy.

Its now obvious that those bent on sabotaging development in the south-east zone are already hiding behind mere counters to prevent the Anambra International Airport from operating.

They will never agree to visit the airport for an inspection to see the Air Peace counters. So i urge the airport delivery team to produce a similar video to the one produced on April 29th. Where they showed the runway had been completed and marked for all to see prior to the test flight.

Like the April video, this video should start at the beginning of the airport road with the Onitsha expressway. Then continue to the gatehouse, car park, terminal building and inside the building showing the Air Peace counters and functional facilities and chairs. Including all other passengers convinces as toilets, luggage carousels etc. Then the completed runway with the landing lights. Also show the functional fire truck for those who said there was none at the airport.

This video will be proof that those claiming there are no chairs and counters at the airport as their reason for keeping it closed as liars.

The video date will also document for posterity that the terminal building was also completed and functional in November 2021. For revisionists that will definitely try to deny history that the facilities weren't there as of October 30th 2021.

First, they declared an impossible feat knowing the poor revenue profile of most southeast states by saying that ;
"if Southeast truly needs an international airport, it should build it and nobody will bother them."

The seemingly impossible feat was accomplished and the same people have closed down the airport indefinitely! Gleefully pretending that they are helping Andy Uba and APC.
Yet, you wonder why the people of the southeast are tired of Nigeria?

One reason i love this youtube channel is that it strives to add some quality to its videos. I love how the channel announced the results and made it look like CNN. The dude really has a very good taste.

I love his 5-point agenda too. The dude often thinks deep on every issue. Although the water issue is going to be problematic. Nonetheless, it will be nice to have.

I think the roads agenda especially using concrete and direct labor is key. The billions of naira saved by using direct labor can easily translate into the magic of paving all roads at once as he advised.

Industrial parks powered by independent power plants and light rail linking those parks to markets and airports should be considered.

One hopes that he has a robust media presence, especially on social media. One of the greatest things I LOVE about Obiano is that he actually has a Facebook and Youtube page!

Obiano is the 1st Anambra leader that I'm aware of that has his own social media handles. Not pages of his media aids such Valentine Obienyem's page announcing Peter Obi's projects. That is why we rarely can find any of Peter Obi's projects on social media because he never had a social media handle. it was also part of the reason that he was unreachable even by ordinary citizens who just wanted to complain about his commissioners or something important on the Governor's Facebook or youtube page to reach him.

I hope Soludo will emulate Obiano and maintain social media pages not just to document his activities for posterity but also to make himself reachable by those whose only way of reaching the governor is via social media.

Gov. Obiano's greatest attribute is putting Anambra's interest above his own personal interest.

Many in his shoes would not complete projects started by his predecessor so that the praise would not go to their predecessor instead of them. A tragic example of this is how subsequent Enugu governors abandoned the 95% completed 5,000 seater Enugu International Conference Center and started their own petty projects!

Obiano understood that this flawed logic was the reason why many states remained littered with abandoned projects and remain backward. He made sure to complete all his predecessor's projects for the benefit of Anambra state. He completed the Agulu Lake 5 star hotel, Onitsha Mall, Anambra state university teaching hospitals, many roads & bridges, and many other projects started by his predecessor Mr. Peter Obi. It must be noted that he completed Peter Obi's projects despite not being in good terms with him!

Again Peter Obi secured the site of the present Anambra International Cargo airport but did not pay the compensation. A typical Nigerian governor would have hidden under that excuse to move the airport to his village. But not Obiano. He completed the compensation already started by Peter Obi and went further to build a world-class facility on that site.

I hope that Obiano's patriotism to Anambra State will be rewarded in the future by immortalizing him to serve as encouragement for others to always place the interest of their state above their own personal interest.

Opobo and Bonny, could both be independent city state while Opobo can be Igbo pritectorate, Bonny can be Ijaw Protectorate but if we love these common interest grounds so much we can both forget our pride and form a country together with ensured autonomy or continue staying in Nigeria together.

I believe in Confederate States of AlaIgbo also Igbo Province of Nigeria.

EXACTLY! many of them don't even know that NPN won former Anambra state in 1983 because they pardoned Ojukwu to return to Nigeria and join the party. Ojukwu's presence in NPN was a single earthquake that propelled the party in 1983.

The problem with APC is that it is so much ANTI-Igbo that they will gladly allow the worst Igbos as their candidates in the east. Imagine if they did a little diligence to get credible Igbos into the party? People vote for even independent candidates they believe in. But, APC so much hates the Igbo that they will NEVER try to use credible Igbos as candidates in the east. So that they can say the reason why they have denied the southeast any representation at all is because the southeast didn't vote for them. But won't mention that they deliberately selected the worst criminals among Igbos to rule over them. Afterall, why won't APC select Shekau as Governor of Borno state?

The next time APC should select Lawrence Anini as their candidate. In a state like Anambra, it is a known forger and hoodlum that you select. Despite knowing that the party is unpopular in the region. You should have been smart enough to select the best candidate available that the citizens will really think twice in rejecting such candidate just because of their party.

Most saliently, the APC members worked against Andy Uba because he was also imposed on them without primaries. So there was no way he could have made it by just doing unknown gunmen all over the state with Hope Ozodimgba.
